• Copying a byte buffer with JNI

  I've found plenty of tutorials / questions on Stackoverflow that deal with copying char arrays from C/JNI side into something like a byte[] in Java, but not the other way around. I am using a native C library which expects a byte array. I simply want to get data from a byte[] in java, into preferably an unsigned char[] in C. Long story short: What is the best way of copying data from a jBytearray in JNI? Is there any way to detect it's size?

• Iphone: controlling text with delay problem with UIWebView

  Hi, I've opted to use UIWebView so I can control the layout of text I've got contained in a local html document in my bundle. I want the text to display within a UIWebView I've got contained within my view. So the text isn't the whole view, just part of it. Everything runs fine, but when the web page loads I get a blank screen for a second before the text appears. This looks really bad. can anyone give me an example of how to stop this happening? I'm assuming I have to somehow hide the web view until it has fully loaded? Could someone one tell me how to do this? At the moment I'm calling my code through the viewDidLoad like this: [myUIWebView loadRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle]pathForResource:@"localwebpage" ofType:@"html"] isDirectory:NO]]]; Any help is much appreciated. The suggestions below solves the problem but creates a new one for me as now when my view loads it is totally hidden until I click on my toggle switch. to understand this it's maybe most helpful if I post all my code. Before this though let me explain the setup of my view. I've got a standard view within which I've also got two web views, one on top of the other. each web view contains different text with different styling. the user flicks between views using a toggle switch, which hides/reveals the web views. I'm using the web views because I want to control the style/layout of the text. Below is my full .m code, I can't figure out where it's going wrong. My web views are called oxford & harvard I'm sure its something to do with how/when I'm hiding/revealing views. I've played around with this but can't seem to get it right. Maybe my approach is wrong. • Creating a unique id for a Core Data program on the iPhone

  I am fairly new at programming in Objective-C, having been a windows programmer since I was a kid. I am falling in LOVE with it. I am, however, having a bit of trouble figuring out this Core Data stuff. How do I create a new entry with a unique ID? In SQL I would just declare one field as an autoincrement field. I'm not seeing anything like that here, but I could just be missing something. I just want an auto incrementing NSInteger field, so when I manually add items to the database, I will have some form of reference to them.

Am I missing something here?

• Message sent to deallocated instance which has never been released

  Hello, I started dealing with NSOperations and (as usual with concurrency) I'm observing strange behaviour. In my class I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when one button in the UI is pressed I initialize the array: postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; and setup the operations (together with dependencies). In the operations I create a custom object and try to add to the array: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; and while adding I get: -[CFArray retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3b40c30 which is strange as I don't release the array anywhere in my code (I did, but when the problem started to appear I commented all the release operations to be sure that they are not the case). I also used to have @synchronized section like below: PostResult *result = [[PostResult alloc] initWithServiceName:@"Sth" andResult:someResult]; @synchronized (self.postResultsArray) { [self.postResultsArray addObject:result]; } but the problem was the same (however, the error was for the synchronized operation). Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

So far, my only way is to parse all names and number in a Dict and read it from there. Is there a simpler, more efficient and sophisticated way to do that?

  Hi All, I have 4 database catalogues in my app, i will be switching the four catalogues. When i start the app, i read the NSUserDefaults and try to load the default catalogue in the memory, but in the first time this doesnt happen. Instead i get null values returned first time just because the DB connection is not successful for some unknown reason, the debugger is unable to go there too. But the app starts up the next time, the values are fetched successfully. Please help

  With two ViewControllers, MyView 1 and MyView 2, is there possible to add a subview to MyView2 from MyView1.m? I have tried: MyView2 * screen = [[MyView2 alloc]initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; [screen.view addSubView:mySubView]; But my new instance of MyView 2 has no connection to the 'visible' ViewController on MyView2, right? • How to read an image from disk and block until its read?

  I'm loading 5 images from disk but I want the 1st image I read to show as soon as possible. Right now I do UIImage *img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path]; in a for loop but since imageWithContentsOfFile:path isn't blocking all 5 images wind up getting read from disk before the first one will appear (because they're all using up I/O). I confirmed this by just load one and it appeared on screen faster than if I load all 5. I'd like to load the 1st image and block until its fully read and shown before loading the next 4 or load the 1st one and be notified when its done before loading the next 4 but I can't figure out a way to do it. None of the 'WithContentsOfFile' methods for data or image block and they don't notify or have delegate methods. Any suggestions? Thanks

  I've got a detail view that consists of a table view with a few rows of data. I can fill the rows just fine, and moving back and forth from the parent view to the subview works too. This detail view should allow the user to select a single value, placing a checkmark accessory in the cell and then returning to the parent view (where the selected value becomes the cell.textLabel.text property of the cell from which the detail view was called). This all works as of right now. However, when the user taps the cell in the parent view to go back to the detail view (to change their selection), my checkmark has disappeared and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it stay. • Zooming to UIView and it's sub-views

  Hi, I have a UIView which I can zoom to (as it is set as a subview of UIScrollView). UIView has UILabel, UITextField, etc. If I just zoom to the UIView, then of course label and text field get fuzzy (the same effect if you are zooming to the image file without changing image resolution). To solve the problem I need to increase the font size and sizes of the UILable and UITextField in according to the scale used to zoom in (scale is passed as a param by the UIScrollView). This is where I am getting confused. Changing frame (by increasing it width and height by zooming scale) I get all my elements (sub-views) repositions (because changing frame effects center and bounds) Question: 1. What would I need to do to zoom in to the sub-views and just increase the sub-view sizes while keeping them in the exactly the same position? thanks

• Restarting an activity in a single tab in a TabActivity?

  Hi, I have a TabActivity. Each tab points to a sub activity. Works great. Is there any clever way to refresh one of the activity tabs? I just want to 'restart' the activity in tab #3 for example.
