    If you are building SSIS 2008 packages programmatically and adding data flow components, you will probably need to know the creation name of the component to add. I can never find a handy reference when I need one, hence this rather mundane post. See also CreationName for SSS 2005. After all participants had the opportunity to get free pizza and soft drinks, Quent Herschelman gave an excellent presentation about Architecture Tools in Visual Studio 2010. He started with a brief introduction to the new MSDN subscriptions, the different versions of Visual Studio, and the full circle of application and solution integration for the new Team Foundation Server. I like the new structure of the MSDN subscriptions and the new options the Team Foundation Server offers! Quent continued his presentation with excellent information and demos of the Architecture Tools, focusing on Architecture Explorer and UML. INTERTECH donated a trainings certificate for $2495 for the first price and a Barnes & Noble Gift card in the amount of $50 for the second price to our monthly raffle!   • Keeping up with Technology

    If you're like me, you have a hard time keeping up with all the technologies out there. The reality is there's too many new technologies (languages, methodologies,  tools, etc). One of the ways I try to keep up with everything is by using good ol' RSS feeds in conjunction with Google Reader. Google Reader is both an online aggregator of RSS feeds, and it also has a good companion app on Google Android. The nicest part of Google Reader for me is the "All Listings" view which gives me a reverse chronological view of ALL articles (mixed together) regardless of the actual RSS feed.  This way, I get to see the newest articles first.   • Upgrade Office 2003 to 2010 on XP or Run them Side by Side

    If you’re still running XP, currently have Office 2003 installed on your machine, and skipped Office 2007, you might want to upgrade to Office 2010. In this guide we will show you the upgrade process or how to run them side by side. In this example we are upgrading from Office 2003 Standard to Office Professional Plus 2010 RTM (Final) on XP Professional. System Requirements To run Office 2010 on your XP machine you have to make sure you have Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Silverlight installed (links below). Or you can just install them through Windows Update. Recommended Hardware 1GHZ CPU or higher 512 MB of RAM or higher 1024×768 Resolution or higher DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 64 MB of memory or higher Installing Office 2010 Simply kick off the Office Professional Plus 2010 installation. Enter in your product key… Agree to the EULA…   Select the Customize button… Setup will detect Office 2003 and allow you to remove all applications, keep them, or select only the ones you want to keep. In this example we’re going to remove Excel and PowerPoint, and keep Outlook and Word 2003. Next, click the Installation Options tab and select Office programs you want to install. Since we’re keeping Outlook 2003 and don’t want to use Outlook 2010, we’re making sure not to install Outlook 2010. However, we want to run Word 2003 and 2010 on the same machine. After you’ve made your selections click the Upgrade button. The installation begins and you’re shown the progress. The amount of time it takes to install will vary between systems. Installation is complete and you can close out of the installer. Now when you go into the Start menu under Microsoft Office, you’ll see both versions of the Office apps available. Here is a shot of Word 2003 and 2010 running together on our XP machine.   Conclusion If you’re moving from Office 2003 to 2010, this allows you to install both versions side by side. It gives you a chance to learn 2010 features, and still work in the familiar 2003 environment when you need to get things done quickly. If youre certain the account has the necessary permissions, but youre still getting the error, the problem may be that the account has never logged into the build server.  In this case, there wont be any entry in the HKCU hive in the registry, which the system is checking for permissions (see this thread).  The solution in this case is quite simple: log into the machine (once is enough) with the build server account.  Then, open Visual Studio (thanks Brendan for the answer in this thread). Summary Make sure the build service account has the necessary database permissions Make sure the account has logged into the server so it has the necessary registry hive info Make sure the account has run Visual Studio at least once so its settings are established In my case I went through all 3 of these steps before I resolved the problem.   • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon.     Hello In a traditional Windows Server 2003 environment with AD, we have shared a folder for our policy documents (MS Word). These documents get edited/updated now and then by the administrator(principal of college). Users only have read-only access to the folder, but they can still save-as and then change the content. Sharepoint is a possible solution but not easy to implement. We also thought of using a CMS on Linux and installing Joomla to let users only view the docs with a document management system... but is it possible to automatically retrieve the policy folder on the network and convert or put it in a format that users can only view and not copy? We also thought of saving the docs to secure pdf format but the principal wants an automated system. Basically she just wants to work in Word and the policies must be available to staff members on the network. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

  • How can I delete faster? Word boundary backspace?

    I like to type fast. I'm a chronic delete-keyer. I will type first, re-think the output later and hit delete. It seems I'm addicted to always doing something fast. Anyways, I have to tap the delete button very often. Is there a way to do a backspace to word boundary that's native? In a chat box, I can use alt+shift+left to get a word, cmd shift left to get the whole line, etc. but I can't do that in a python shell for example. Any ideas?

A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor.     Question A. Given 1. A string in rich text format that may have paragraph, tabs, space, line break, indentation, (or even image?) 2. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

    hi all, i am actually trying to change the color index for the first word with braces in an array, for eg if i have an array like this... @array=" (Love) is (beautiful), Its like an (air), So it can be (only) felt, (Cannot) be (seen)." and i need the colour of the first word that are inside the braces () ie "(Love), (Cannot)" including () to be in RED and rest of the contents in BLACK and print the entire contents of the array in msword(2003) using win32::ole....and am using windows xp.This array is just an example the contents of an array will change but first word with braces has to be printed in red can any one help me pls... its very urgent...Thanks a lot to all who help me in this regard.

    Depending on your system, the word separator characters change the way you can select/delete a word (e.g. by double clicking on it or using a key combination with your keyboard). The fact is that I hate the default behavior of OSX. For example: Take the following line of code: obj.attr1.innerAttr. If my cursor is at the end of the line and I press alt + backspace, it will delete everything and not just innerAttr. I only found some apps (like iTerm) which let you change the word separator characters. Is there a way to change it for the whole system?

    In a latex document I'm writing, I get an overfull hbox warning because of the word "multi-disciplinary", which happens to be rendered at the end of a line. I can get rid of this particular warning by changing it into multi-discipli\-nary, but the same problem will happen elsewhere, since this word is used a lot in the paper. I'd like to use the \hyphenation{} command instead, but obviously my tentative \hyphenation{multi-disci-pli-na-ry} does not work, because it does not understand the first dash correctly. What incantation do I need to get correct indentation in a word that already contains a dash ? Bonus question: where could I have found the answer to that question myself ?

  • iPhone SDK: How to store the time each word was typed?

    My problem is twofold: 1) I'm trying to determine an eloquent way to allow the user to type into a UITextView and store the time each word was typed into an array. The time will be a float which starts at 0 when the user begins to type. 2) Conversely, I'd like the user to be able to tap on a word in the UITextView and display the time that word was typed (displaying in an NSLog() is fine). Considerations that may throw a wrench into a possible approach -- what if the user goes back to the top of the text and starts typing or to the middle of the text? Even a suggested approach without code would be appreciated, because right now I'm drawing a blank.
