  • How much memory does a hashtable use?

    Would a hashtable/hashmap use a lot of memory if it only consists of object references and int's? As for a school project we had to map a database to objects (that's what being done by orm/hibernate nowadays) but eager to find a good way not to store id's in objects in order to save them again we thought of putting all objects we created in a hashmap/hashtable, so we could easily retrieve it's ID. My question is if it would cost me performance using this, in my opinion more elegant way to solve this problem.

  • Django Custom Field: Only run to_python() on values from DB?

    How can I ensure that my custom field's *to_python()* method is only called when the data in the field has been loaded from the DB? I'm trying to use a Custom Field to handle the Base64 Encoding/Decoding of a single model property. Everything appeared to be working correctly until I instantiated a new instance of the model and set this property with its plaintext value...at that point, Django tried to decode the field but failed because it was plaintext. The allure of the Custom Field implementation was that I thought I could handle 100% of the encoding/decoding logic there, so that no other part of my code ever needed to know about it. What am I doing wrong?   • How can I configure Devise for Ruby on Rails to store the emails and passwords somewhere other than in the user model?

    I'd like to store emails in a separate table and allow users to save multiple emails and log in with any of them. I'd also like to store passwords in a different table. How can I configure Devise to store authentication info elsewhere? Worst case scenario, if I just have to hack into it, is there a generator to just port everything over to the app?   • My.Settings not saving after install

    My application is not saving users settings after I install it. When I test my app in debug or release mode it works fine. However after compiling, linking and installing the My.Settings.Save() does not seem to be working. I can manually change a setting in the config file and the app runs accordingly. So I know it’s reading the config file on application startup. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

    I'm trying to generate some sql files in my java application. The application will not execute any sql statements, just generate a file with sql statements and save it. I'd like to use the java.sql.PreparedStatement to create my statements so that i don't have to validate every string etc. with my own methods. Is there a way to use the PreparedStatement without the calling java.sql.Connection.prepareStatement(String) function, because I don't have a java.sql.Connection?

    I have the following syntax in the .cmd file, where PathList is console application with .exe as extension. cd D:\Sample D: PathList 2> file.txt This syntax works fine if the file is saved with .bat as extension, but if save it with .cmd extension it throws error saying 'PathList' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Please can i know what is the issue with saving it with .cmd extension
