  • Juju Openstack bundle: Can't launch an instance

    Deployed bundle:~makyo/openstack/2/openstack, on top of 7 physical boxes and 3 virtual ones. After changing vip_iface strings to point to right devices, e.g., br0 instead of eth0, and defining "/mnt/loopback|30G", in Cinder's block-device string, am able to navigate through openstack dashboard, error free. Following http://docs.openstack.org/grizzly/openstack-compute/install/apt/content/running-an-instance.html instructions, attempted to launch cirros 0.3.1 image; however, novalist shows the instance in   • EntityManager injection works in JBoss 7.1.1 but not WebSphere 7

    I've built an EJB that will manage my database access. I'm building a web app around it that uses Struts 2. The problem I'm having is when I deploy the ear, the EntityManager doesn't get injected into my service class (and winds up null and results in NullPointerExceptions). The weird thing is, it works on JBoss 7.1.1 but not on WebSphere 7. You'll notice that Struts doesn't inject the EJB, so I've got some intercepter code that does that. My current working theory right now is that the WS7 container can't inject the EntityManager because of Struts for some unknown reason. My next step is to try Spring next, but I'd really like to get this to work if possible. I've spent a few days searching and trying various things and haven't had any luck. I figured I'd give this a shot.     After having excellent response to my quiz – Why SELECT * throws an error but SELECT COUNT(*) does not?I have decided to ask another puzzling question to all of you. I am running this test on SQL Server 2008 R2. Here is the quick scenario about my setup. Create Table Insert 1000 Records Check the Statistics Now insert 10 times more 10,000 indexes Check the Statistics – it will be NOT updated Note: Auto Update Statistics and Auto Create Statistics for database is TRUE Expected Result – Statistics should be updated – SQL SERVER – When are Statistics Updated – What triggers Statistics to Update Now the question is why the statistics are not updated? The common answer is – we can update the statistics ourselves using UPDATE STATISTICS TableName WITH FULLSCAN, ALL However, the solution I am looking is where statistics should be updated automatically based on algorithm mentioned here.   • Why doesn’t ABPersonViewController show any properties besides the name?

    For some reason, ABPersonViewController is unwilling to display any properties aside from the name, no matter what properties are set for it to display. I’m unable to use the AddressBookUI controllers to let a user select a contact to display, since my UI has custom requirements, otherwise I’d go that route (as Apple does in their sample project.)   • Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Stas BAD, Back up and replace

    I have an laptop top hard drive I was trying to use to my new media computer. The case is small and can accommodate for 2 2.5" drives, no 3.5" drives. I had been using the hard drive as storage hard drive until now. When I go to install Windows on the hard drive first I'm prompted at the bios of: Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Stas BAD, Back up and replace. And then again in the Windows Setup, informing me that the hard drive is bad. So I did a full format of the drive and tried again. Same error. So I took it out and hooked it back up to my other computer via an Sata usb adapter kit (maybe the cause?). The hard drive is recognized fine and when I scanned it for errors by going: right click -> properties -> tools -> error checking It returns that the hard drive is fine. I have tried 3 different SATA cables and multiple jumpers. When I plugged in my 1.5 tb 3.5" drive the computer that gives me the S.M.A.R.T. error on the 2.5" drive, recognizes it with no problems. Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?

  • Mac Mini drive problems but SMART verified: bad hard drive or controller?

    I have a 3-year-old Intel Mac Mini at home. About a month ago, it stopped booting from the hard drive (internal, SATA, 80GB). I tried booting from the Install Disc to repair the filesystem but Disk Utility was unable to do so ("invalid node structure"). I was also unable to use the hard drive in the Terminal from the Install Disc nor from an Ubuntu boot CD ("DRDY err"). I could see the contents of some directories, but others would give an error and I would get failures when trying to copy files. At this point I was sure the filesystem was hosed and I'd want to reformat at least. DiskWarrior was able to let me retrieve the data files I was interested in, which are now copied to an external hard drive, but it reported a high number of problems ("speed reduced by disk malfunction" count was over 2000) when in the process of trying to rebuild the directory for the drive. It also would not let me use the rebuilt directory to replace the one on the drive; it claimed the disk errors prevented recovery in this way. Under normal circumstances I would now assume that the drive itself was going bad: DiskWarrior's "disk malfunction" error above is supposed to imply hardware problems. My initial plan was to buy a replacement for the internal 2.5" drive. However: Disk Utility, command-line tools and DiskWarrior had reported all along that the SMART status of the drive was okay/Verified. So I'm now worried that the drive hardware is actually fine, and that the problems were due to a disk controller that has gone "bad" somehow. If this is the case, I'll probably just replace the whole computer. Any advice on how I can tell what is to blame? I don't have a lot of extra hardware sitting around, so I don't have the option of simply dropping the drive in another machine or popping another hard drive inside the Mini.

  • How can I loop through posts as well as child pages to display them all by date in Wordpress 2.9

    Some background info -- In wordpress I have my portfolio as a parent page with each item of work a child page. I also have a blog. I want to display the most recent 6 items on the homepage whether they are from my portfolio or my blog. I have a loop that displays the posts and on another page I have a loop that displays the child pages of a specific parent page. I only need to display the_title and the_post_thumbnail. Is it possible to loop through both the posts and the child pages and display them in order of date (recent first). So the final display would be a mixture of posts and child pages. Could it be done by having a separate loop for pages and one for posts, then somehow adding the results to an array and then pull them out in date order (recent first). Any help would be greatful.   • How come module-level validation errors only display when property-level validators are Valid?

    I'm using the module-level validator: 'PropertiesMustMatch' on my view-model, like so: [PropertiesMustMatch("Password", "PasswordConfirm")] public class HomeIndex { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } public string Password { get; set; } public string PasswordConfirm { get; set; } } I'm noticing that if I submit the form without Name filled in, the ValidationSummary() helper returns only the following error: The Name field is required. However, if I fill in Name, then ValidationSummary() will return a PropertiesMustMatch error: 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. So it looks like the property-level validators are being evaluated first, then the model-level validators. I would much prefer if they were all validated at once, and ValidationSummary would return: The Name field is required. 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I'm studying the MVC 2 source-code to try to determine why this happens.

I'm using a framework that uses dynamic methods, and it is creating a dynamic assembly with the same name as my main assembly (which causes problems with WPF when it tries to load resources). So I need to find a workaround, and I thought of trying to change the name of the dynamic assembly. I've tried using GetName() and then setting the Name property, but it appears that GetName returns a clone of the name because my change doesn't stick. What else can I try?

    When you createa a PreferenceScreen on Android, your application creates a default SharedPreferences file for the settings. I want to read this name, or get a reference without specifing the name. Currently I use: SharedPreferences prefs = ctx.getSharedPreferences("prefs", 0); SharedPreferences.Editor ed=prefs.edit(); But this returns another copy of the preference. When I checked the folder in /data/data/myapk/shared_prefs I see two files, one named prefs.xml and the other is my [package name]_preferences.xml (this was created by the PreferenceActivity); How do I get an instance of the shared preference with the usage of the default file name, so I should not mention a name for it?

  • How can I wipe my iPod classic and fix any bad sectors on the hard drive without killing it?

    My iPod never finishes syncing and only syncs audio, not pictures or video - any ideas as to how I can fix it? My iPod classic 160GB worked well for a couple of years. I used to sync a lot of photos at full resolution to it, but this recently stopped working after I moved to Windows 7. iTunes is on latest version - 9.1.1.12 iPod software is up to date - 1.1.2 Windows 7 is fully up to date and patched The symptoms are that the iPod will start to sync, all audio (music and podcasts will sync successfully) but the syncing will then just appear to continue - itunes message: Syncing iPod. Do not Disconnect. This sync never completes - I have left it trying for days. I have tried resetting the iPod using the Restore button, whereupon it restarts sync from default options and again will sync audio, but nothing else. I suspect that something has gone wrong on the hard-drive - either a bad sector or some corrupt data. Is there a process I can go through to fix this? E.g. SpinRite or a format? If so how do I go about formatting an iPod and will it be recognised as an iPod after format and work as normal? Any advice on what to try next much appreciated? Update I have eliminated problems with the files, PC or iTunes as they sync fine to other iPods. I have also eliminated the cable by trying different cables which work with other iPods. What I'd really like to know is if there is any way to more fundamentally wipe the iPod safely, attempt to repair any bad sectors on the hard drive and then start from scratch. Anyone ever managed this?

    Vim has list and listchars options that make vim display "virtual characters" (by which I mean characters that aren't actually in the buffer) in certain situations. For example, you can make trailing spaces look like something else, or add a visible character to represent the newline character. I'd like to be able to enable the display of certain characters either before or after certain regular patterns ((perhaps syntax items). Sort of like syntax highlighting, but instead of just changing the color/styling of characters that are in the buffer, I'd like to display extra characters that aren't in the buffer. For example, I'd like to display a virtual : (colon) after all occurrences of the word "where" that appear at the end of a line. Is this possible, and if so, what is the necessary vimscript to do it?

    Hi I have seen this often in code, but when I speak of it i don't know the name of such 'pattern' I have a method with 2 arguments that calls an overloaded method that has 3 arguments and intentionality sets the 3rd one to empty string. public DoWork(string name, string phoneNumber) { CreateContact(name, phoneNumber, string.Empty) } public DoWork(string name, string phoneNumber, string emailAddress) { //do the work } The reason I'm doing this is I to not duplicate code, and allow the existing callers to still call the method that has only 2 parameters. I have associate a few tags to this question, but it probably fit in more categories of questions. Is this a pattern, and does it have a name?

    I'm trying to write a wrapper for Winamp input plugins and have hit a bit of a snag. I'd like my wrapper to be able to display a plugin's configuration dialog, which is (or should be) achieved by calling the plugin's Config(HWND hwndParent) function. For most plugins, this works fine and my program is able to display the plugin's configuration dialog. However, 64th Note (a plugin for playing USF files) is giving me problems. Winamp can display its configuration dialog just fine, but whenever I try to display it from my wrapper, the dialog gets destroyed before it ever shows itself. Thankfully, 64th Note is open source, so I took a look at its innards to try and get an idea of what's going wrong. When I monitored the messages sent to the dialog in its proc function, I saw that WM_DESTROY and WM_NCDESTROY were sent within the first few messages, though I have no clue as to why. If I change the Config function so that it displays the plugin's About dialog instead of its configuration dialog, both Winamp and my wrapper will display the About dialog, which suggests that there is something unique to the configuration dialog template that's causing the problem.
