  • Controling virtualbox internet access?

    I am finally going through the process of moving my XP into a vbox (host linux). The thing is that I am migrating a virtually clean install. So aside from the occasional antivirus scan, I want to make sure that my XP is not sending malware data (keystoke.logs, spam etc. ) out silently ( and thus having picked up some virus ). To that end I want to limit XP to contacting my LAN and a few internet sites. ( mainly sites that require proprietary windows only software to access, AV sites and Windows update ). I want XP to only access preapproved addresses. If it is trying to contact a nonapproved address, I want it somehow logged and access restricted until I allow access. I also don't want to have to decide whether to allow access to a site at my leisure. To keeps things clear let me give an example: I start my vbox/XP ( which I call MYXP) running on my linux box ( called MYLINUX connecting to the net through a linksys wrt54g ) and connects via samba to my LAN ( since my LAN seems to be possessed of every evil thing, it's address is 192.168.666. ). At the moment my configuration is set so that I allow MYXP to access 192.168.666 and www.MYANTIVIRUS_UPDATES.com and www.MS_UPDATES.com. Then on the VM I start a program which tries to make a connection to www.playmygame.com . www.playmygame.com is on my preapproved list so the connection goes through. Later I check attempted accesses and discover that it also tried to connect to www.mygame_high_scores.com I figure this is OK so I add www.mygame_high_scores.com to my approved list. Later, I again check address and discover that my VM/XP tried to access www.mygame_steals_your_identity.com. I do some checking and discover the address is registered to someone in Kiev, Nigeria. Since this doesn't sound kosher to me, I replace the MYXP VM with one that was backed up before I installed mygame. I remove www.playmygame.com and www.mygame_high_scores.com from my access list for MYXP. It should acomplish this with little overheard. When I am not running the VM ideally it should not have any overhead. Suggestions?

  • Licencing: release the same software with double licence

    In my free time, I develop (alone, sigh) a project, in particoular an application library. I've released it using GPL v3. At this time, this project has come very useful for a job. I'd like to release my OSS library toghether with the application using the same GPL v3 licence, with the exception that it can be linked for the specific application, or for the specific application vendor. AFAIK, the copyright owner can handle the entire source and licencing it, I did it; and probably the licence owner could cut&paste its own code, change its licence and use for other projects, isn't? But an GPL'ed library cannot be linked with a proprietary software, right? But software could be double-licenced, as MySQL does. So the question is: what should I do to allow the distribution of my GPL'ed library with a proprietary software, being the copyright owner?

  • Why do I get Detached Entity exception when upgrading Spring Boot 1.1.4 to 1.1.5

    On updating Spring Boot from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5 a simple web application started generating detached entity exceptions. Specifically, a post authentication inteceptor that bumped number of visits was causing the problem. A quick check of loaded dependencies showed that Spring Data has been updated from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 and a further check of the change log shows a couple of issues relating to optimistic locking, version fields and JPA issues that have been fixed. Well I am using a version field and it starts out as Null following recommendation to not set in the specification. I have produced a very simple test scenario where I get detached entity exceptions if the version field starts as null or zero. If I create an entity with version 1 however then I do not get these exceptions. Is this expected behaviour or is there still something amiss? Below is the test scenario I have for this condition. In the scenario the service layer that has been annotated @Transactional. Each test case makes multiple calls to the service layer - the tests are working with detached entities as this is the scenario I am working with in the full blown application. The test case comprises four tests: Test 1 - versionNullCausesAnExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field in the detached object is Null. This is how I would usually create the object prior to passing to the service. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. I would have expected this test to pass. If there is a flaw in the test then the rest of the scenario is probably moot. Test 2 - versionZeroCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test I have set the version to value Long(0L). This is an edge case test and included because I found reference to Zero values being used for version field in the Spring Data change log. This test fails with a Detached Entity exception. Of interest simply because the following two tests pass leaving this as an anomaly. Test 3 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionOnUpdate() In this test the version field is set to value Long(1L). Not something I would usually do, but considering the notes in the Spring Data change log I decided to give it a go. This test passes. Would not usually set the version field, but this looks like a work-around until I figure out why the first test is failing. Test 4 - versionOneDoesNotCausesExceptionWithMultipleUpdates() Encouraged by the result of test 3 I pushed the scenario a step further and perform multiple updates on the entity that started life with a version of Long(1L). This test passes. Reinforcement that this may be a useable work-around.     Hello, I have a program that listens on port 443 and then redirects to either an SSH or HTTPS local server depending on the detected protocol. The program does this by connecting to the local server and proxying all data back and forth through its own process. However, this causes the originating host on the local servers to be logged as localhost. Is there any way to pass the socket directly to the local server process (rather than just making a new TCP connection) so that the parameters of sockaddr_in (or sockaddr_in6) will be retained? Platform for this is Linux.

    probably asked already but I couldn't find it.. here are 2 common situation (for me while programming rails..) that are frustrating to write in ruby: "a string".match(/abc(.+)abc/)[1] in this case I get an error because the string doesn't match, therefore the [] operator is called upon nil. What I'd like to find is a nicer alternative to the following: temp="a string".match(/abc(.+)abc/); temp.nil? ? nil : temp[1] in brief, if it didn't match simply return nil without the error The second situation is this one: var = something.very.long.and.tedious.to.write var = something.other if var.nil? In this case I want to assign something to var only if it's not nil, in case it's nil I'll assign something.other.. Any suggestion? Thanks!

  • How to setup .htaccess to rewrite to different folder

    I'm moving my site to a new host but I need to have my current server continue to handle requests (not all files can be moved to the new server). So I added a parked domain to my old server (old.mydomain.com) and I want all requests to it to be written to the files from the old site. My old site (mydomain.com) was hosted internally in a folder (/public_html/mydomain/) and I want all requests to old.mydomain.com to be rewritten to the same folder. So if mydomain.com/blog was internally at /public_html/mydomain/blog I now want old.mydomain.com/blog also to reach /public_html/mydomain/blog. Here is the .htaccess that I'm trying to use: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^old\.mydomain\.com/* RewriteRule ^(.*)$ mydomain/$1 [NC,L] but for some reason as soon as I add the $1 in the rewrite rule I get an internal error. Any ideas?

    Hi, I have a website A.com and a domain at B.com with a widget inside an iframe getting data from A.com. I want to allow x-domain cookies to be passed from a.com to inside the iframe using ASP.NET My understanding is that - I can do this in IE using P3P Headers - such that the A.com cookie is passed to the iframe and session | cookie data is preserved. The P3P headers have to be sent from the A.com and from the iframe. Is this correct ? In dev, my understanding is if I "accept all cookies" in IE - then P3P headers won't matter anyway and so this should all just work. If I put on Medium Security then P3P is required.

    Hi! I'm using the Android MediaProvider application to get information regarding the resources registered in the media library. The only way I found to do this is to use the ContentProvider class provided by the MediaProvider application. Unfortunately, it seems to me this is quite a limitation, isn't it? Is it possible this way to create complex queries with subqueries and using other functions of SQLite? I thought that it may be possible using the SQLiteDatabase class, but it seems it is not possible to open the database directly with its path, and anyway, the query method seems not to allow subqueries. Any solution to this? Thanks!

  • Why use multiple OpenGL context

    For rendering I have a current GL context, associated to a window. In the case the application render multiple scenes (for example using accumulation or different viewports) I think it is ok to reuse the same context. My question, indeed, is: why should I use multiple GL context? I red on ARB_framebuffer_object extension spec that MakeCurrent call could be expansive, and in the case the ARB_framebuffer_object extension is present I can render on a generic buffer without using MakeCurrent. Apparently the only reason to use multiple GL context is to avoid to setup context state (pixel store, transfer, point size, polygon stipple...) or to have avaialable multiple render buffers configuration (one context with accumulation, another without). How to determine when is better an alternative context instead of setting context state? Thankyou all!

I don't get why that command would have tried to do anything with FactoryGirl, though. Any ideas?

    Hello, I'm thinking about using hadoop to process large text files on my existing windows 2003 servers (about 10 quad core machines with 16gb of RAM) The questions are: Is there any good tutorial on how to configure an hadoop cluster on windows? What are the requirements? java + cygwin + sshd ? Anything else? HDFS, does it play nice on windows? I'd like to use hadoop in streaming mode. Any advice, tool or trick to develop my own mapper / reducers in c#? What do you use for submitting and monitoring the jobs? Thanks
