  • JMS createQueue Trouble

    Hi I am having trouble using the createQueue in JMS. I can create a queue successfully but right after I try to do the following and it fails. Any ideas? Thanks.   • Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

    I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake?     I'm commiting a large changeset, including a large binary file (180 MB) over a slow VPN connection. It looks for all the world like it is stalled. How can I diagnose where it is stuck? The output is: $ svn commit -m "My commit message" Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)` Local subversion is 1.6.9 on Linux, KDE 4.3, and svn status shows ML . L ws M ws/manage.py L ws/locales L ws/locales/ja_JP L ws/locales/ja_JP/LC_MESSAGES The process isn't using much of any resources. The server is Linux, served by Apache and mod_dav_svn, same subversion 1.6.9. I can't see any process that is handling the commit.

Having this class: class Wrapped(object): def method_a(self): # do some operations return n def method_b(self): # also do some operations return n I wan't to have a class that performs the same way as this one: class Wrapper(object): def __init__(self): self.ws = [Wrapped(1),Wrapped(2),Wrapped(3)] def method_a(self): results=[Wrapped.method_a(w) for w in self.ws] sum_ = sum(results,0.0) average = sum_/len(self.ws) return average def method_b(self): results=[Wrapped.method_b(w) for w in self.ws] sum_ = sum(results,0.0) average = sum_/len(self.ws) return average obviously this is not the actual problem at hand (it is not only two methods), and this code is also incomplete (only included the minimum to explain the problem). So, what i am looking for is a way to obtain this behavior. Meaning, whichever method is called in the wrapper class, call that method for all the Wrapped class objects and return the average of their results. Can it be done? how? Thanks in advance. ps-didn't know which tags to include...

I haven't bought a game in a long time, and I'm puzzled: Apparently, SC2 is a "Steam"-powered game. When I went to install the game, it asked me to either create a new Steam account, or log in with an existing account. I clicked "Cancel" because I don't plan to play online and I don't want anything unnecessary installed on my computer, since I only plan to play single player! However, after clicking "Cancel", the installer asked for my confirmation that I indeed wanted to cancel installation of the game! I thought I was just canceling the "online" portions! So I really want to know: How do "Steam" powered games work? Is this essentially a form of DRM (Digital Rights Management)? Can I trust this software platform? Has anybody done any independent verification on how this platform works? (I'm very leery of any DRM after the Sony BMG CD copy protection scandal. Thank goodness for Mark Russinovich.) Does the "Steam" platform install anything particularly nasty or unwanted on my computer? High-rep users: Please vote to reopen this question.   • C# Process.Start() on an executable on a remote system - security warning?

    I've created a Windows Service that accepts commands from remote machines via WCF. One of those commands is to run a specified executable (let's ignore the security implications of such functionality). In my Service I am using Process.Start() to run the executable. All works well if the executable is local to the machine, but if it is on a remote file share it is failing with no error (or more accurately just hanging). I suspect the problem is that it is triggering the standard Windows 'Unverified Publisher' warning that one would see if they double click an exe on a remote system. Is there any way I can bypass this from my service so that I can truly run any executable? As I said I understand the security implications of allowing it to run any executable, but this is really what I need. I would have thought this warning was only a user mode concept, but it really does seem to be getting in the way of my Service. Ideas?

Everything works fine in multi-tenant mode, but how to use mode = "singleTenant" ? For that i have included the below line at the beginning of javascript. netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalXPConnect"); But when the above script executes, a dialog box appears saying **Internet security** A script from "file://" is requesting enhanced abilities that are UNSAFE and could be used to compromise your machine or data: Run or install software on your machine Allow these abilities only if you trust this source to be free of viruses or malicious programs. ______ _______ | Deny | | Allow | -------- --------- But i dont want the dialog box to be appeared.How can i avoid it?.   • .NET Process.Start() on an executable on a remote system - security warning?

    I've created a Windows Service that accepts commands from remote machines via WCF. One of those commands is to run a specified executable (let's ignore the security implications of such functionality). In my Service I am using Process.Start() to run the executable. All works well if the executable is local to the machine, but if it is on a remote file share it is failing with no error (or more accurately just hanging). I suspect the problem is that it is triggering the standard Windows 'Unverified Publisher' warning that one would see if they double click an exe on a remote system. Is there any way I can bypass this from my service so that I can truly run any executable? As I said I understand the security implications of allowing it to run any executable, but this is really what I need. I would have thought this warning was only a user mode concept, but it really does seem to be getting in the way of my Service. Ideas?

  • Patching and PCI Compliance

    One of my friends and master of the security universe, Darren Moffat, pointed me to Dan Anderson's blog the other day.  Dan went to Toorcon which is a security conference where he went to a talk on security patching titled, "Stop Patching, for Stronger PCI Compliance".  I realize that often times speakers will use a headline grabbing title to create interest in their talk and this one certainly got my attention.  I did not go to the conference and did not see the presentation, so I can only go by what is in the Toorcon agenda summary and on Dan's blog, but the general statement to stop patching for stronger PCI compliance seems a bit misleading to me.  Clearly patching is important to all systems management and should be a part of any organization's security hygiene.  Further, PCI does require the patching of systems to maintain compliance.  So it's important to mention that organizations should not simply stop patching their systems; and I want to believe that was not the speakers intent. So let's look at PCI requirement 6: "Unscrupulous individuals use security vulnerabilities to gain privileged access to systems. Many of these vulnerabilities are fixed by vendor- provided security patches, which must be installed by the entities that manage the systems. All critical systems must have the most recently released, appropriate software patches to protect against exploitation and compromise of cardholder data by malicious individuals and malicious software." Notice the word "appropriate" in the requirement.  This is stated to give organizations some latitude and apply patches that make sense in their environment and that target the vulnerabilities in question.  Haven't we all seen a vulnerability scanner throw a false positive and flag some module and point to a recommended patch, only to realize that the module doesn't exist on our system?  Applying such a patch would obviously not be appropriate.  This does not mean an organization can ignore the fact they need to apply security patches.  It's pretty clear they must.  Of course, organizations have other options in terms of compliance when it comes to patching.  For example, they could remove a system from scope and make sure that system does not process or contain cardholder data.  [This may or may not be a significant undertaking.  I just wanted to point out that there are always options available.] PCI DSS requirement 6.1 also includes the following note: "Note: An organization may consider applying a risk-based approach to prioritize their patch installations. For example, by prioritizing critical infrastructure (for example, public-facing devices and systems, databases) higher than less-critical internal devices, to ensure high-priority systems and devices are addressed within one month, and addressing less critical devices and systems within three months." Notice there is no mention to stop patching one's systems.  And the note also states organization may apply a risk based approach. [A smart approach but also not mandated].  Such a risk based approach is not intended to remove the requirement to patch one's systems.  It is meant, as stated, to allow one to prioritize their patch installations.   So what does this mean to an organization that must comply with PCI DSS and maintain some sanity around their patch management and overall operational readiness?  I for one like to think that most organizations take a common sense and balanced approach to their business and security posture.  If patching is becoming an unbearable task, review why that is the case and possibly look for means to improve operational efficiencies; but also recognize that security is important to maintaining the availability and integrity of one's systems.  Likewise, whether we like it or not, the cyber-world we live in is getting more complex and threatening - and I dont think it's going to get better any time soon.

    Fusion Applications provides several types of interfaces to facilitate integration with other applications within the enterprise and on the cloud.As one of the key integration interfaces, Fusion Applications (FA) supports SOAP services based integration, both inbound and outbound. At this point FA doesn’t provide REST API’s but it is planned for a future release. It is however possible to invoke external REST APIs from FA which we will discuss. Oracle continues to invest in improving both SOAP and REST based connectivity. The content in this blog is based on features that were available at the time of writing it. In this two part blog, I will cover the following topics briefly. Invoking FA SOAP web services from external applications Identifying the FA SOAP web service to be invoked Sample invocation from an external application Techniques to invoke FA services from an ADF application Invoking external SOAP Web Services from FA (covered in Part 2) Invoking external REST APIs from FA (covered in Part 2) I’ll touch upon some basics, so that you can quickly build a few SOAP/REST interactions with FA. If you do not already have access to an FA instance (on-premise or SaaS), you can request for a free 30 day trial of the Oracle Sales Cloud using http://cloud.oracle.com 1. Invoking FA SOAP web services from external applications There are two main types of services that FA exposes -  ADF Services - These services allow you to perform CRUD operations on Fusion business objects. For example, Sales Party Service, Opportunity Service etc. Using these services you can typically perform operations such as get, find, create, delete, update etc on FA objects.These services are typically useful for UI driven integrations such as looking up FA information from external application UIs, using third party Interfaces to create/update data in FA. They are also used in non-UI driven integration uses cases such as initial upload of business or setup data, synchronizing data with an external systems, etc. - Composite Services – These services involve more logic than CRUD and often involving human workflows, rules etc. These services perform a business function such as Get Orchestration Order Service and are used when building larger process based integrations with external systems.These services are usually asynchronous in nature and are not typically used for UI integration patterns. 1a. Identifying the FA SOAP web service to be invoked All FA web service metadata is available through an OER instance (Oracle Enterprise Repository) which is publicly available via http://fusionappsoer.oracle.com. This is the starting point for you to discover the services that you are going to work with. You do not need to own a FA account to browse the services using the above UI You can use the search area on the left to narrow down your search to what you are looking for.
