• marshal data too short!!!

  My application requires to keep large data objects in session. There are like 3-4 data objects each created by parsing a csv containing 150 X 20 cells having strings of 3-4 characters. My application shows this error- "marshal data too short". I tried this- Deleting the old session table. Deleting the old migration for session table. Creating a new migration using rake db: sessions:create. editing the migration manually, changing "text: data" to "longtext: data". running the migration using rake db: migrate. now when i open my application, i see this page- link text please someone help me, this is getting on my nerves!! other details of application-- In view "index.html.erb"- There is a link that makes ajax call to an action in controller, that action parses large csv file and makes an object out of it. this object is stored in session.   I have a Dell R710 running Debian Linux 6.0 (Squeeze). I installed a QLogic QLE8152 CNA in the PCI-E riser today and I have been trying to get the CNA's ethernet layer to come up after I put a fiber loop on it; I also scoped it with a light meter, and the SFP+ transceiver is getting the correct amount of light. The whole time I have been working on this problem, the lights on the CNA are blinking green at a rate of about 1 flash every 3 seconds. When I plug the fiber into a Juniper EX4500 10GE in a rack next to it, the Juniper's link stays down as well. I have to confess that this is my first wrangling with a CNA, so perhaps I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but here is what I have found so far... First the basics... • Set up basic Windows Authentication to connect to SQL Server 2008 from a small, trusted network

  I'm guessing that this is documented somewhere on Microsoft's site, but thus far I haven't found it. I'm trying to set up a Windows Server 2008 box to have SQL Server 2008 with Windows Authentication (Mixed Mode, actually, but anyway) for work. We have a number of client machines that will need access to the databases, and I would like to keep configuration as simple as feasible. Here's what I've done so far: Install SQL Server 2008 selecting Mixed Mode Create a new 'Standard' (rather than Administrator) Windows login entitled "UserLogin" (with intent to use it as the access account) Create an SQL Server Login for Server\UserLogin and assign it 'Windows Authentication' Log in as UserLogin, check that I'm able to connect to SQL Server using WIndows Authentication, then log out again Start on the first client (Windows XPSP2, SQL Server 2005): Run C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr Click "Add", enter the server name in the box, Server\UserLogin in the Username, and UserLogin's password in the Password field. Click "Ok" then "Close" Attempt to access SQL Server 2005 using Windows authentication. Succeed. Confetti! Start on the second client (Windows 7, SQL Server 2008): Run C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr Click "Add", enter the server name in the box, Server\UserLogin in the Username, and UserLogin's password in the Password field. Click "Ok" then "Close" Attempt to access SQL Server 2008 using Windows authentication. Receive an error "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication" Assume that this translates to "You can't have two connections from the same account" (Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but I'm a bit like that) Go back to the server, create a second Windows account, give it SQL Server rights. Go back to the second client, create a new passkey for the second login, try logging in again. Continue to receive the same error. Is this all overly complex and there's an easy way to do what I'm trying to accomplish? Or am I missing some ultra-obvious step that would make everything behave as desired? Most of the stuff that's coming up when I try to Google seems to be along the lines of "My ASP.NET application isn't working!", which obviously isn't all that much use.

• File Access problems with SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1

  We have identified a couple of repeatable, demonstrable scenarios with unexplained rejected folder access on our servers for Mac users. Hopefully, this can be presented to Novell for a solution. What we did to demonstrate scenario 1; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder 4. on the Mac in that central location drag the created folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 5. on the PC rename that folder 6. on the Mac drag a file to that renamed folder, this should error with the following message; a. You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? b. Select skip, response is the filename is copied to the location with zero or small byte size. Try opening it and you get file is corrupted error message. What we did to demonstrate scenario 2; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder then create a subfolder 4. copy some content into the subfolder 5. on the Mac in that central location drag the created top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 6. on the PC rename that subfolder 7. on the Mac drag that top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should error on the Mac with the following; a. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for b. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 8. on the Mac, if you open that subfolder you can see the file copied in step 4 above but, you can not open that file, you get the following message if you try; a. There was an error opening this document. You do not have permission to open this file. 9. on the PC drag some content into the top level folder 10. on the Mac you can open that file directly from the server or copy it locally, no problem, however-the subfolder is still corrupted or locked, whichever 11. on the PC rename the top level folder 12. on the Mac that same file just opened in step 10 above is now not accessible, get the following message; a. The document could not be opened. I have observed some variances in the above. For instance, a change on the PC side may take a moment before you can observer or act on the Mac side - kind of like the server is slow to respond. Also, the error message may vary. However, the key is once a folder, or subfolder, gets renamed by a PC, Mac problems commence. The solution is to create a new folder from a PC and copy the contents of the corrupted folder to the new folder and not rename the folder name. This has to be done on a PC because the corrupted folder is not accessible by a Mac user. Another problem that dovetails with the above is that we know certain characters are not allowed for PC folder or filenames. If a Mac user creates a folder with a slash in the file name, from the PC the user does not see that slash in the name. As soon as the PC user copies a file to that folder, the Mac user is locked from that folder. Will get the following error message; - Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. - (Error code - 50) In addition to the above mentioned character issue with folders, the problem is more evil with filenames. If, for example, you create a file with a slash in the filename on a Mac and copy it to the server you will get the following error message; - You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? Select either Stop or Skip buttons. It does not matter which button is selected. The file name gets copied to the destination location at a reduced size. Depending on the file type, the icon associated with the file may or may not be present. Furthermore, if you open that file on the server you will get the following message; - Couldnt open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that doesnt recognize. From the users perspective, if they are not observant of the icon or file size, they may disregard the error message and think their file has copied as intended. Only later do they discover the file is corrupt if they open that file. I want to make a note on this problem. It is the PC causing the issue. You can change folder and file names all day on a MAC and you don't have a problem as long as a character is not the issue. Once you change the file name or folder name from a PC the entire folder structure from that level down is corrupted. But it has to be resolved from a PC by creating a new folder and copying the contents to the new folder like stated above. Is something not configured correctly?   I have two router 'GVT-1' (the main router) and 'GVT-2' (the second router), this seconds router is used as a repeater only, so I setup a wireless bridge but after I did that it only show 'GVT-2' and if I go closer the 'GVT-1' the signal gets weak cause I'm far from the second router. What I wish is to had the same connection with a wide signal, there's something that I cand do about it ? Thanks.

  We're running a nginx reverse proxy cluster, forwarding traffic to our main website, this enables us to filter out unwanted traffic/users etc, and send them off else where, now we have a few issues with SYN floods where the requests a second is overflowing the proxy + the main server causing them to become unavailable. Is there any ip tables magic that can A) Rate limit SYN packets / connections to HTTP B) Block it all together if packets a second is malicious or any advice how to use limit_rate_zone in nginx, I've googled and tried to apply a few new results and none of them work and the websites are still unavailable.

• External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

  Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern). • Turning down the sound on a switched off user

  If one switches users (i.e. user one switches off, and then another users logs in) and there is sound playing on the first user, that sound will continue to play for the second user. If the second user has admin rights, they can guess what program is causing the sound and then kill it, but that is very clumsy, and far more than what "needs" to be done. When I open the mixer, it just shows that sound is playing. How can I stop it?

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access?   We have identified a couple of repeatable, demonstrable scenarios with unexplained rejected folder access on our servers for Mac users. Hopefully, this can be presented to Novell for a solution. What we did to demonstrate scenario 1; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder 4. on the Mac in that central location drag the created folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 5. on the PC rename that folder 6. on the Mac drag a file to that renamed folder, this should error with the following message; a. You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? b. Select skip, response is the filename is copied to the location with zero or small byte size. Try opening it and you get file is corrupted error message. What we did to demonstrate scenario 2; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder then create a subfolder 4. copy some content into the subfolder 5. on the Mac in that central location drag the created top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 6. on the PC rename that subfolder 7. on the Mac drag that top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should error on the Mac with the following; a. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for b. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 8. on the Mac, if you open that subfolder you can see the file copied in step 4 above but, you can not open that file, you get the following message if you try; a. There was an error opening this document. You do not have permission to open this file. 9. on the PC drag some content into the top level folder 10. on the Mac you can open that file directly from the server or copy it locally, no problem, however-the subfolder is still corrupted or locked, whichever 11. on the PC rename the top level folder 12. on the Mac that same file just opened in step 10 above is now not accessible, get the following message; a. The document could not be opened. I have observed some variances in the above. For instance, a change on the PC side may take a moment before you can observer or act on the Mac side - kind of like the server is slow to respond. Also, the error message may vary. However, the key is once a folder, or subfolder, gets renamed by a PC, Mac problems commence. The solution is to create a new folder from a PC and copy the contents of the corrupted folder to the new folder and not rename the folder name. This has to be done on a PC because the corrupted folder is not accessible by a Mac user. Another problem that dovetails with the above is that we know certain characters are not allowed for PC folder or filenames. If a Mac user creates a folder with a slash in the file name, from the PC the user does not see that slash in the name. As soon as the PC user copies a file to that folder, the Mac user is locked from that folder. Will get the following error message; - Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. - (Error code - 50) In addition to the above mentioned character issue with folders, the problem is more evil with filenames. If, for example, you create a file with a slash in the filename on a Mac and copy it to the server you will get the following error message; - You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? Select either Stop or Skip buttons. It does not matter which button is selected. The file name gets copied to the destination location at a reduced size. Depending on the file type, the icon associated with the file may or may not be present. Furthermore, if you open that file on the server you will get the following message; - Couldnt open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that doesnt recognize. From the users perspective, if they are not observant of the icon or file size, they may disregard the error message and think their file has copied as intended. Only later do they discover the file is corrupt if they open that file. I want to make a note on this problem. It is the PC causing the issue. You can change folder and file names all day on a MAC and you don't have a problem as long as a character is not the issue. Once you change the file name or folder name from a PC the entire folder structure from that level down is corrupted. But it has to be resolved from a PC by creating a new folder and copying the contents to the new folder like stated above. Is something not configured correctly? I have used clonezilla to make an image of the machine's harddrive and then attempted to write that image to a second machine's disk. Everything went fine, but when I try to boot Windows 7 on the second machine I get a blue screen flash and then it tries to run the startup repair tool, which runs unsuccessfully. Is there something new with Windows 7 that keeps it from being cloned like this?
