  Currently most of the PC users mostly depend on the windows OS and they would not go away from that beaus of the hand on usage knowledge about and also because of the look and feel habituation. But there are plenty of Linux base Desktop operation systems there such as UBUNTU, FEDORA. Users do not tend to go for those OSs (specially office environments) because most of the 3rd party software and tools (such as Photoshop, flash, Visual Studio) mostly can install only in windows operating system. So I'm thinking why we cant create a free OS same as Windows. That is capable to install software that created for windows. that can communicate with windows servers and exchange etc.. . • Common Javascript mistakes that severely affect performance?

  At a recent UI/UX MeetUp that I attended, I gave some feedback on a website that used Javascript (jQuery) for its interaction and UI - it was fairly simple animations and manipulation, but the performance on a decent computer was horrific. It actually reminded me of a lot of sites/programs that I've seen with the same issue, where certain actions just absolutely destroy performance. It is mostly in (or at least more noticeable in) situations where Javascript is almost serving as a Flash replacement. This is in stark contrast to some of the webapps that I have used that have far more Javascript and functionality but run very smoothly (COGNOS by IBM is one I can think of off the top of my head). I'd love to know some of the common issues that aren't considered when developing JS that will kill the performance of the site.

  For a very long time, I'm experiencing this bug in Compiz. It makes my windows flash, when rotating the desktop cube. None of the animations work properly execpt the Wobbly windows. However the temporary fix I found on the bug page helped me to reduce the effects, but it's not 100% perfect. Now they have totally fixed the bug in Compiz 0.9.8 for Quantal. I really need to get the official fix on my Ubuntu 12.04. Don't the LTS versions get bug fixes? Sometimes my desktop cube/cylinder appears like this : None of this happened in Lucid Lynx :( Thanks for having a look.....

  I have bean an artist for many years now I am very comfortable with using Photoshop and Flash but I want to learn how to but together my own games, I bean doing my own research into this and at the moment I am at little bit stuck on witch direction to go down. So my question is witch programming language should I learn? I have already bean looking into this what i understand is that Gamemaker with its built in language (GML) is one of the most friendly to people who are new to the game making world. I have played around with this program and was pretty happy with it but I want more also you can use Unity with language such as C and javascript and then games built with Java witch looks interesting. One more thing before you send your answer in at this moment in time I would only be able to make 2D game but 3D isn't out of the picture.

  I've been tasked with creating a simple 2D platformer top be put on a webpage. The game is pretty much a simple Super Mario type game. I've been playing around with C# and C++ now for a couple years, so I'm aware that Unity offers a route to making a web game but for such a simplistic project i'm afraid that using unity would be overkill... i.e. slow, nobody wants to install the web player for a game with < 5 mins playtime. Html5 canvas/JS seems to jump out at me over flash, as that seems to be being pushed out. Any suggestions on a route to take would be greatly appreciated

Hardware specs are - Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2,80GHz x 8 - Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 - 750 GB Hard Disk ATA WDC WD7501AALS-00E3A0 (for my /home partition) - 128 GB Solid-State Disk ATA PLEXTOR PX-128M2S (for all other partitions) Since I reinstalled the PC with Ubuntu 12.04 the xserver restarts randomly. Most times when I watch a video in the browser (maybe a flash issue?) but sometimes the restart/crash appears when I'm working in an text-editor. How can I locate the problem? My background is in .NET web development, so I'm very comfortable with C#, HTML, jQuery/javascript. Still getting my feet wet with HTML5.   I've been using Hibernate a little while (HQL) and want to try Criteria's for a few scenarios we have here. I'm trying to get a few inner joins (2 layers deep) and am struggling a little. I go to the official site and they teach by cats and kittens. I don't care about cats and kittens and find the analogy hard to follow. Orders, details, shipments, etc. Nice, boring business references is what I enjoy. I tried to Google it but all I get are early 2000's websites with so many flashing GIF's, cluttered displays, flash overs and "tummy tuck" ads I want to puke. Why can't the java world have sites like http://guides.rubyonrails.org/? And no, I'm not advocating I volunteer to create a similar site. :-) Anyway, any good site that can give a nice tutorial on Criteria based searches would be appreciated.

• Why won't my install on Macbook work?

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my Macbook. The CD drive is broken, so I am going from a USB flash drive I created. I can get it to "Try Ubuntu" perfectly fine, as a matter of fact I'm using it right now. However, I really want to install. Everything is partitioned, rEFIt is installed. I run the installer and I follow the guide at Apple Intel Installation I get to the install part of the installer, and after running it ends with a fatal grub error. Anyone know how to get past this? I feel like it has something to do with the fact that I don't get the last dialog box of the installer with the "advanced" tab used in the guide. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• My ASUS U32U with fresh Xubuntu install shows a black screen 50-80% of the startups

  I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 with Xubuntu-package on my ASUS U32U notebook (Radeon HD 6320 GPU). The issue I have is that more often than not, after the GRUB-select screen I get a black screen, and three times total white lines (kind of) flashes very quickly (with maybe 5 seconds between each flash). I'm not even able to get to the login-screen (nor the Xubuntu loading screen). At first I thought it was simply me having installed something dumb or messed up some settings, but even after reformatting the partition and installing ubuntu again, the problem remains. Before I formatted it xfce4's window manager wouldn't start either, but it does now (when I am able to see anything). I can access the virual consoles (ctrl+alt+f1), but I can't see anything, but I've managed to shutdown the computer by using it (sudo shutdown -h now).
