• How load text into JavaStackTraceConsolePage programmatically?

  In my Eclipse plugin I'd like to send a Java console output (loaded from some other system) to the Java Stack Trace Console. I pseudo-code it'd be something like: get the console output from the other system obtain a reference to a JavaStackTraceConsolePage instance send the text to the console page display the console i.e. switch from my plugin's view to the Console view Step 1 is easy as it is specific to my plugin. As for the rest I'm pretty much clueless - Google and stackoverflow.com don't come up with useful references or how-tos. Since the class JavaStackTraceConsolePage is part of an internal Eclipse API (org.eclipse.jdt.internal.debug.ui.console) I'm not even sure whether it's doable at all.

• Add comma-separated value of grouped rows to existing query

  I've got a view for reports, that looks something like this: SELECT a.id, a.value1, a.value2, b.value1, /* (+50 more such columns)*/ FROM a JOIN b ON (b.id = a.b_id) JOIN c ON (c.id = b.c_id) LEFT JOIN d ON (d.id = b.d_id) LEFT JOIN e ON (e.id = d.e_id) /* (+10 more inner/left joins) */ It joins quite a few tables and returns lots of columns, but indexes are in place and performance is fine. Now I want to add another column to the result, showing comma-separated values ordered by value from table y outer joined via intersection table x if a.value3 IS NULL, else take a.value3 To comma-separate the grouped values I use Tom Kyte's stragg, could use COLLECT later. Pseudo-code for the SELECT would look like that: SELECT xx.id, COALESCE( a.value3, stragg( xx.val ) ) value3 FROM ( SELECT x.id, y.val FROM x WHERE x.a_id = a.id JOIN y ON ( y.id = x.y_id ) ORDER BY y.val ASC ) xx GROUP BY xx.id What is the best way to do it? • Web Apps: Closeable Announcements/Info/Tooltip boxes (how to implement)

  I want to understand how to implement an announcement/info box system that displays a box for the user with information. The user can do nothing or close the box, but then it will never be seen again. E.g. Facebook home page. Box asking for Translators. if you leave it then its always there. But if you close it, it never appears again. Does this mean that a Boolean value needs to be used and checked for announcement/info boxes? I'm looking for a pseudo way with database tables to do this?

• Implementing IPermission

  Hi there, I'm considering writing a custom IPermission implementation but am not clear as to how it should work. I've already implemented IPrincipal and IIdentity. What I would like to accomplish is to be able to check permissions vis a vis the current IPrincipal's authorizations rather than its roles. Generally, authorizations are read/add-delete/update/none for a given type. So I would like to write something like this: [CustomPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Type = typeof(Foo), MinimumAuthorization = AuthorizationFlags.Read)] public void SomeMethod(){} Is this possible? I've looked over the code at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.ipermission.aspx. This shows how to implement the interface, but I don't understand how the above pseudo-code would be able to check against the IPrincipal's authorizations for the type. Any help or resource references would be appreciated. Joni

• Converting C# void* to byte[]

  In C#, I need to write T[] to a stream, ideally without any additional buffers. I have a dynamic code that converts T[] (where T is a no-objects struct) to a void* and fixes it in memory, and that works great. When the stream was a file, I could use native Windows API to pass the void * directly, but now I need to write to a generic Stream object that takes byte[]. Can anyone suggest a hack way to create a dummy array object which does not actually have any heap allocations, but rather points to an already existing (and fixed) heap location. • Using Unity and interfaces, how do I create a concrete class that implements IDisposable

  I have an interface (IDbAccess) for a database access class so that I can unit test it using Unity. It all works fine in Unity and now I want to make the concrete database class implement IDisposable so that it closes the db connections. My problem is that Unity does not understand that my concrete class is disposable because the interface (IDbAccess) cannot implement another interface. So how can I write code like this (pseudo code) so that Unity is aware that it needs to dispose the class as soon as I am done?   To generate a valid pairwise master key for a WPA2 network a router uses the PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1 algorithm. I understand that the sha1 function is performed 4096 times to derive the PMK, however I have two questions about the process. Excuse the pseudo code. 1) How is the input to the first instance of the SHA1 function formatted? SHA1("network_name"+"network_name_length"+"network_password") Is it formatted in that order, is it the hex value of the network name, length and password or straight ASCII? Then from what I gather the 160 bit digest received is fed straight into another round of hashing without any additional salting. Like this: SHA1("160bit digest from last round of hashing") Rise and repeat. 2) Once this occurs 4096 times 256 bits of the output is used as the pairwise master key. What I don't understand is that if SHA1 produces 160bit output, how does the algorithm arrive at the 256bits required for a key? Thanks for the help.

I've also looked at this CodeProject project, but it really is much more complicated than what I need. • Which is the most memory leak safe approach.

  I have a table of frequently updated information. This is presented using a container div with a div for each row, each row containing 10 divs. I am using setInterval to call a an asmx webservice that returns some json formatted information. On the success callback I call $("#myContainer").empty(); on the container div and recreate the rows and 10 nested divs for each row's columns. This page may be left to run for a whole day, so I am wary of updating the DOM like this as I have noticed that memory does rise for the browser over time (IE8). The other approach I am considering is to add an idea to the row div. When new results process each item of data, look for the corresponding row, if it exists overwrite the data in each div. If it doesn't exist (new data for example), append the row. What approaches have others used for this sort of long lived pseudo realtime information display. TIA

  If you have a simple Linq query like: var result = from record in db.Customer select new { Text = record.Name, Value = record.ID.ToString() }; which is returning an object that can be mapped to a Drop Down List, is it possible to dynamically specify which fields map to Text and Value? Of course, you could do a big case (switch) statement, then code each Linq query separately but this isn't very elegant.   Hello, I'm building a range between two numbers (floats) and I'd like this range to be of an exact fixed length (no more, no less). range and arange work with steps, instead. To put things into pseudo Python, this is what I'd like to achieve: start_value = -7.5 end_value = 0.1 my_range = my_range_function(star_value, end_value, length=6) print my_range [-7.50,-5.98,-4.46,-2.94,-1.42,0.10] This is essentially equivalent to the R function seq which can specify a sequence of a given length. • Flash AS3: crop TextField content off at X lines, add '...' at the end

  There's only room for three lines of text in the interface, but the content is external and variable, and if it ends up taking up more than three lines, there needs to be some sort of 'view all' button functionality. I can kind of think about what that function needs to look like, but I'm not quite sure what the best way to do it in AS3 would be. Something like (in pseudo code): function cropText(source:TextField, length:int, append:String):TextField{ if(source.lineCount > length){ source.text = // magic function that retuns the first length lines, // minus append.length characters, with the append value tacked onto the end } return source; } ... right?   Hi, i need a locking in memcache. Since all operations are atomic that should be an easy task. My idea is to use a basic spin-lock mechanism. So every object that needs locking in memcache gets a lock object, which will be polled for access. // pseudo code // try to get a lock int lock; do { lock = Memcache.increment("lock", 1); } while(lock != 1) // ok we got the lock // do something here // and finally unlock Memcache.put("lock", 0); How does such a solution perform? • Actionscript 3: foreach drawing object in movieclip

  Hey, I got a europe map designed in flash (1 movieclip, 1 frame, really simple), which contains the map as drawing objects directly inside the scene and in addition some specific countries as clickable buttons. So far it's working fine. What I need now is to make all the other drawing objects clickable without having to edit and script each object.   These are the (pseudo) models I've got. Blog: name etc... Article: name blog creator etc User (as per django.contrib.auth) So my problem is this: I've got two users. I want to get all of the articles that the two users published on the same blog (no matter which blog). I can't simply filter the Article model by both users, because that would yield the set of Articles created by both users. Obviously not what I want. but can I filter somehow to get all of the articles where a field of the object matches between the two querysets?

  I have a client application that creates a temp table, the performs a bulk insert into the temp table, then executes some SQL using the table before deleting it. Pseudo-code: open connection begin transaction CREATE TABLE #Temp ([Id] AS int) bulk insert 500 rows into #Temp UPDATE [OtherTable] SET [Status]=0 WHERE [Id] IN (SELECT [Id] FROM #Temp) AND [Group]=1 DELETE FROM #Temp WHERE [Id] IN (SELECT [Id] FROM [OtherTable] WHERE [Group]=1) INSERT INTO [OtherTable] ([Group], [Id]) SELECT 1 as [Group], [DocIden] FROM #Temp DROP TABLE #Temp COMMIT TRANSACTION CLOSE CONNECTION This is failing with an error on the DROP statement: Cannot drop the table '#Temp', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. I can't imagine how this failure could occur without something else going on first, but I don't see any other failures occurring before this. Is there anything that I'm missing that could be causing this to happen?

• Question about spring manning-in-action

  I saw people asking about best book for learning spring, and I came across manning.spring in action was recommended most of the time so I decided to give it a go. The thing is the author offers some pretty reasonable explanations, puzzle by puzzle it gets in your head, than you just need to code it and you're done, you get it(this is how I work don't know about the others). When it comes to the code its very disapointing, I went trought the Knight example like 2 or 3 times by now and I see its incorrect in the book, I mean its hard already for people eager to learn and why not a note somewhere in the book like pseudo-code or something. The knight example in the first chapter is missing two classes QuestFailedException and HolyGrail I mean other people must have noticed this, why is everyone recommending this book without saying at least it has some errors(like many others do), was anyone actually been able to compile and this first chapter example?

• Java File and ByteArray or InputStream - please quick help

  I want to use jFuge to play some MIDI music in an applet. There's a class for the MIDI pattern - Pattern - and the only method to load the pattern is from a File. Now, I don't know how applets load files and what not, but I am using a framework (PulpCore) that makes loading assets a simple task. If I need to grab an asset from a ZIP catalogue, I can use the Assets class which provides get() and getAsStream() methods. get() returns the given asset as a ByteArray, the other as an InputStream. I need jFuge to load the pattern from either ByteArray or InputStream. In pseudo-code, I would like to do this: Pattern.load(new File(Assets.get("mymidifile.midi"))); however there is no File constructor that would take a ByteArray. Suggestions, please?

• Avoid generating empty STDOUT and STDERR files with Sun Grid Engine (SGE) and array jobs

  I am running array jobs with Sun Grid Engine (SGE). My carefully scripted array job workers generate no stdout and no stderr when they function properly. Unfortunately, SGE insists on creating an empty stdout and stderr file for each run. Sun's manual states: STDOUT and STDERR of array job tasks will be written into dif- ferent files with the default location .['e'|'o']'.' In order to change this default, the -e and -o options (see above) can be used together with the pseudo-environment-vari- ables $HOME, $USER, $JOB_ID, $JOB_NAME, $HOSTNAME, and $SGE_TASK_ID. Note, that you can use the output redirection to divert the out- put of all tasks into the same file, but the result of this is undefined. I would like to have the output files suppressed if they are empty. Is there any way to do this?
