I had a Java developer new to PHP ask me this question the other day, so I thought I'd document the answer here.
Question: are PHP variables passed by value or by reference?
I have written a Javascript calender, that is dynamically generated by Javascript.
But if does not functions in IE.
here is the link to my script.

We one looks at IE Developer tool, the newly generated contents are there but do not show in browser.
Any help please.
Looking for the things you install every time you do a fresh build and use either frequently or infrequently but it may be very novel and obscure and have a lot of value to a C++ developer's toolbox.
I am a new iphone developer and was wondering if I could get some help with some code. I just want to know how to export basic character strings and variables to a website to be used by a third-party program.
Basically, if I had something as basic as:
int variableOne;
int variableTwo;
What code would I use to export these variables to a website?
Using [NSScreen screens] I'm able to get all of the screens attached to the computer and their sizes, however I'm trying to find out their positions relative to each other (like in Arrangement in the Display preferences). Is there a way to do this? I've looked online and through the class references on Apple's developer site and found nothing. Thank you.
I'm trying to insert/load javascript (e.g. prototype/jquery) into the iFrame generated by TinyMCE (tinymce.moxiecode.com) or YUI's text editor (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/editor/) so as to better manipulate the objects/images/DIVs inside it.
Any thoughts?
Hello,
We have a CMS plugin that writes statistics to 1 table, this creates performance issues on the entire platform. We decided to use another statistics plugin which can connect to a different database server (the first plugin couldn't!) however we need parts of the first plugin.
I want to lock the statistics table to prevent misusage (not allowed to drop it by the developer) So I was wondering if a lock table could do this or if I can implement some sort of read only table
We are developing a very complex eCommerce portal using asp.net c# and the client asked us to make the documentation very similar (look & feel) with ebay api documentation http://developer.ebay.com/DevZone/shopping/docs/CallRef/GetSingleItem.html
Do you have any idea what kind of tool they are using and if not do you know anything that can be configured to produce a similar result ?
Thank you in advance !
Andrew

Specifically some that may cater to an experienced developer (C#) but not necessarily familiar with Java/Eclipse?
I have seen a couple vids on YouTube but they are either short (not much you can learn in 3mins or patronizing)
I am writing a java servlet (struts/JSP etc). I am trying to style a progress bar using CSS in a JSP page but get this error when using chrome's developer tools:
Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type text/plain.
<%@ include file="../include/css/default.css" %
And in the CSS file:
background:url(../images/bg_bar.gif) no-repeat 0 0;
Could anyone explain why this is and show how I can use this CSS in my page?
Where do I announce a free software project that is aimed exclusively at developers? If it was an end-user application, I could try freshmeant.net, for instance. But how to make a developer-only low-level library "known to the world"?
[not sure this is not off-topic here...]
With the latest changes to the developer agreement by Apple, how inherant is the risk of using any kind of framework to develop Apps for devices now? Should shops risk using things like MonoTouch, Three20, Appcelerator since this change?
How are some iPhone/iPad developers here handling it?

There are many examples like this one:
if you look closer to the block borders, you can see that the gray block is under the white one. Using the browser's developer tools you can see that both boxes have an inherited z-index: auto;
I can't reproduce this effect on my website (without using z-index).
So, my question is: Why is the gray block under the white one?
One of the major challenges for any java developer is try to keep in pace of development of the language and new tools. Java is evolving all the time and it happens often that I hear from a friend or colleague about some useful tool I had never heard of before.
I'd love to hear about how people find out when new java specs come out or an interesting, new tool is released? For example, what java blogs do you follow?
If we compare Windows and Web applications against following criteria
Insight of .NET and OS
Design Patterns
Logic development
Development of a fresher into a good developer
which one is better.

To me, as a developer and as a user, I find the empty string ("") useless and the cause of much confusion, it's like saying string == char[]
Maybe computers need the empty string, so I'd like to learn why.
Hi,
I'm been developing Ruby on Rails previously. I'm now looking at an ASP.net web app and I'm looking at WebForms and MVC. As I look at MVC it feels as if I'm looking at the result of something a Ruby on Rails developer implemented after being forced to work in MS land. So I'm wondering:
Was MVC more or less taken directly from Ruby on Rails and it's concepts? (either intentionally or unintentionally)
I have installed Visual Studio Express Web Developer 2010 and boy it really slows my system down a lot. Is there a way to identify the services like SQL Server and set them to manual so I can avoid all my memory resources been occupied when not using Visual Studio? Is it just SQL Express the problem or are there any other things I should consider disabling in order to have a fast and reliable system when not using Visual Studio?
Thanks!
Are class methods convenience methods i.e. part of the framework e.g. +(id)alloc and instance methods are those that were implemented by the developer?
I can't seem to understand the difference between instance methods and class methods.
Hi All,
I am a Java Developer and a newbie in Ruby.
Does Ruby not implement available classes in Ruby lang itself(as done in Java).
Actually I have downloaded the code for Ruby and was trying to find the implementation for classes like Fixnum, etc. But could not find it.
I have my iPhone setup on my computer at home, with my developer account and provisioning profile.
I'm trying to get it setup on my work computer so I can run work apps on it as well. My work has their own dev account. I created an app ID and privisioning profile on my personal account and downloaded it on my work computer but its not letting me compile and run on my iPhone. It says valid provisiong profile not found on executable.
I've seen developers use various methods to prevent spam on a basic html contact form
Method 1 is where the developer uses a Captcha image and Method 2 where only a Question is asked eg. Are you Human? with a radio button.
Which one is the better one to use and why?
I am interested in learning Objective C so I can develop for the iPhone and Mac. I am a web developer with lots of experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP, but I have no knowledge at all of C or Objective C. What is the fastest and easiest way for me to learn Objective C? Can you recommend any good resources for getting started?
