  I am not sure am I doing these correct. I have 3 models, Account, User, and Event. Account contains a group of Users. Each User have its own username and password for login, but they can access the same Account data under the same Account. Events is create by a User, which other Users in the same Account can also read or edit it. I created the following migrations and models. Is this setting correct? Every time when a user create a new account, the system will ask for the user information, e.g. username and password. How can I add them into correct tables? • How can I add file locations to a database after they are uploaded using a Perl CGI script?

  I have a CGI program I have written using Perl. One of its functions is to upload pics to the server. All of it is working well, including adding all kinds of info to a MySQL db. My question is: How can I get the uploaded pic files location and names added to the db? I would rather that instead of changing the script to actually upload the pics to the db. I have heard horror stories of uploading binary files to databases. Since I am new to all of this, I am at a loss. Have tried doing some research and web searches for 3 weeks now with no luck. Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated. I would really hate to have to manually add all the locations/names to the db. I am using: a Perl CGI script, MySQL db, Linux server and the files are being uploaded to the server. I AM NOT looking to add the actual files to the db. Just their location(s).

  I'm trying to load several images by a drop action and than resizing them and adding them as a thumbnail. The resize part is very important because the images can be very large and I want to make the thumbnails small of size. When a file is loaded I add html to an array which I will print if the load is complete. The problem is I can't seem to add the img object (I need this object to resize the image) to the html string, which seems obvious as the img is an object... So my question to you guys is: how do I do this? :)

  What is the best way of working with calculated fields of Propel objects? Say I have an object "Customer" that has a corresponding table "customers" and each column corresponds to an attribute of my object. What I would like to do is: add a calculated attribute "Number of completed orders" to my object when using it on View A but not on Views B and C. The calculated attribute is a COUNT() of "Order" objects linked to my "Customer" object via ID. What I can do now is to first select all Customer objects, then iteratively count Orders for all of them, but I'd think doing it in a single query would improve performance. But I cannot properly "hydrate" my Propel object since it does not contain the definition of the calculated field(s). How would you approach it?

  I am new to Ruby and Rails so bear with me please. I have created a very simple blog application with both posts and comments. Everything works great. My next question regarding adding categories. I am wondering the best way to do this. As I can't see too far in front of me yet when it comes to Rails I thought I would ask. To be clear, I would like that a single post can have multiple categories and a category can have multiple posts. Is the best way to do this to create a 'categories' table and then use the posts and categories models to do has_many :posts, has_many :categories? Would I also then set the routes.rb such that posts are embedded under categories? Or is there an easier way by simply adding a category column to the existing posts table? (in which case I would imagine having multiple categories would be difficult).

  I have two excel files which has similar formatting and the data map each other from cell b15:h31. Row 15 is heading and so is the column B. I want to read file1 cell by cell and add that cell's content to the corresponding cell in File 2 i.e C16 in file 1 gets added to C16 in file 2, C17 in file 1 to C17 in file 2 and so on. The output goes in file 3 or anything. trying to implement through vba but of no success so far. Does anyone know how to go about it.

  I have to concat 2 linq2sql query and I have an issue since the 2 query doesn't return the same number of columns, what is weird is after a .ToList() on the queries, they can concat without problem. The reason is, for some linq2sql reason, I have 2 more column named test and test2 which come from 2 left outer join that linq2sql automatically create, something like "select 1 as test, tablefields" Is there any good reason for that? how to remove this extra "1 as test" field? here a few of examples of what it look like: google result for linq 2 sql "select 1 as test"

• Why won't my AJAX controls work? (and ajax for .net 4 not working?)

  I'm totally new to ajax. I'm using VS2005. I just downloaded .NET framework 4 and so then I downloaded ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net4 via [http://ajaxcontroltoolkit.codeplex.com/releases/view/43475] (as opposed to ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net35 for .NET 3.5), but when I try to load the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll into my toolbox (as said in the tutorials), I get the following error msg: "'C:......\ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll' is not a microsoft .NET module." First question: Why is this happening? So I tried downloading the "Recommended" ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net35, and it accepted the .dll file and loaded all my controls. So, I started a new website and tried to check out a combobox, and it displays, but IE is giving the follow error msg: 'Sys.Extended.UI.PositioningMode.BottomLeft' is null or not an object.' 2nd question: Why is this happening?   I am hoping this question fares a little better than the similar Create a table without columns. Yes, I am asking about something that will strike most as pointlessly academic. It is easy to produce a SELECT result with 0 rows (but with columns), e.g. SELECT a = 1 WHERE 1 = 0. Is it possible to produce a SELECT result with 0 columns (but with rows)? e.g. something like SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo. (This is not valid T-SQL.) I came across this because I wanted to insert several rows without specifying any column data for any of them. e.g. (SQL Server 2005) CREATE TABLE Bar (id INT NOT NULL IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY) INSERT INTO Bar SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo -- Invalid column name 'NO'. -- An explicit value for the identity column in table 'Bar' can only be specified when a column list is used and IDENTITY_INSERT is ON. One can insert a single row without specifying any column data, e.g. INSERT INTO Foo DEFAULT VALUES. One can query for a count of rows (without retrieving actual column data from the table), e.g. SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Foo. (But that result set, of course, has a column.) Dashes represent 0 or no number. I'd like to be able to mark a rectangular region such as third column above, call a function (format-column), and automatically have (-73135-11018-69313+64-26330)/1000 sitting in my kill-ring. Even better would be -73.135-11.018-69.313+0.064-26.330 but I couldn't figure out a way to transform 64 -- 0.064. Do you see a better way to write format-column, and/or could you make suggestions on how to improve this code?

• Mapping issue with multi-field primary keys using hibernate/JPA annotations

  Hi all, I'm stuck with a database which is using multi-field primary keys. I have a situation where I have a master and details table, where the details table's primary key contains fields which are also the foreign key's the the master table. Like this: Master primary key fields: master_pk_1 Details primary key fields: master_pk_1 details_pk_2 details_pk_3 In the Master class we define the hibernate/JPA annotations like this: @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator = "idGenerator") @Column(name = "master_pk_1") private long masterPk1; @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @JoinColumn(name = "master_pk_1", referencedColumnName = "master_pk_1") private List<Details> details = new ArrayList<Details>(); And in the details class I have defined the id and back reference like this: @EmbeddedId @AttributeOverrides( { @AttributeOverride( name = "masterPk1", column = @Column(name = "master_pk_1")), @AttributeOverride(name = "detailsPk2", column = @Column(name = "details_pk_2")), @AttributeOverride(name = "detailsPk2", column = @Column(name = "details_pk_2")) }) private DetailsPrimaryKey detailsPrimaryKey = new DetailsPrimaryKey(); @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "master_pk_1", referencedColumnName = "master_pk_1", insertable=false) private Master master; The goal of all of this was that I could create a new master, add some details to it, and when saved, JPA/Hibernate would generate the new id for master in the masterPk1 field, and automatically pass it down to the details records, storing it in the matching masterPk1 field in the DetailsPrimaryKey class. At least that's what the documentation I've been looking at implies. What actually happens is that hibernate appears to corectly create and update the records in the database, but not pass the key to the details classes in memory. Instead I have to manually set it myself. I also found that without the insertable=true added to the back reference to master, that hibernate would create sql that had the master_pk_1 field listed twice in the insert statement, resulting in the database throwing an exception. My question is simply is this arrangement of annotations correct? or is there a better way of doing it?

• Database not completely updated in rails migration

  I am new to Ruby on Rails. An error has occurred, all later migrations canceled: Can't mass-assign protected attributes: username, hashed_password, first_name, last_name, email, display_name, user_level What am I doing wrong please help? • Importing fixtures with foreign keys and SQLAlchemy?

  I've been experimenting with using fixture to load test data sets into my Pylons / PostgreSQL app. This works great except that it fails to properly create foreign keys if they reference an auto increment id field. My fixture looks like this: class AuthorsData(DataSet): class frank_herbert: first_name = "Frank" last_name = "Herbert" class BooksData(DataSet): class dune: title = "Dune" author_id = AuthorsData.frank_herbert.ref('id') And the model: t_authors = sa.Table("authors", meta.metadata, sa.Column("id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column("first_name", sa.types.String(100)), sa.Column("last_name", sa.types.String(100)), ) t_books = sa.Table("books", meta.metadata, sa.Column("id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column("title", sa.types.String(100)), sa.Column("author_id", sa.types.Integer, sa.ForeignKey('authors.id')) ) When running "paster setup-app development.ini", SQLAlchemey reports the FK value as "None" so it's obviously not finding it: 15:59:48,683 INFO [sqlalchemy.engine.base.Engine.0x...9eb0] INSERT INTO books (title, author_id) VALUES (%(title)s, %(author_id)s) RETURNING books.id 15:59:48,683 INFO [sqlalchemy.engine.base.Engine.0x...9eb0] {'author_id': None, 'title': 'Dune'} The fixture docs actually warn that this might be a problem: "However, in some cases you may need to reference an attribute that does not have a value until it is loaded, like a serial ID column. (Note that this is not supported by the SQLAlchemy data layer when using sessions.)" http://farmdev.com/projects/fixture/using-dataset.html#referencing-foreign-dataset-classes Does this mean that this is just not supported with SQLAlchemy? Or is it possible to load the data without using SA "sessions"? How are other people handling this issue?
