• Array help needed for unit conversion application

  I have a project to do in Visual Basic. My problem is that the outcome is always wrong (ex. instead of 2011 it gives 2000). And i cannot set as Desired unit the Inch(1) or feet(3), it gives the Infinity error. And if i put as Original and Desired unit the inch(1), the outcome is "Not a Number".   I have some viewdata that is generated by going through my repository to the database to grab some scheduling info. When the information is stored in the Viewdata, I noticed that the viewdata is enumerated. How could I access the enumerated items and generate a table/list based on the viewdata?   Hi Everyone, I'm trying to get a block of code down to one line. I need a way to get the number of items in a list. My code currently looks like this: # Include the lib directory several levels up from this directory my @ary = split('/', $Bin); my @ary = @ary[0 .. $#ary-4]; my $res = join '/',@ary; lib->import($res.'/lib'); That's great but I'd like to make that one line, something like this: lib->import( join('/', ((split('/', $Bin)) [0 .. $#ary-4])) ); But of course the syntax $#ary is meaningless in the above line. Is there equivalent way to get the number of elements in an anonymous list? Thanks! PS: The reason for consolidating this is that it will be in the header of a bunch of perl scripts that are ancillary to the main application, and I want this little incantation to be more cut & paste proof. • Memory cleanup on returned array from static method (objective-c)

  In objective-c, I have a utility class with a bunch of static methods that I call for various tasks. As an example, I have one method that returns an NSArray that I allocate in the static method. If I set the NSArray to autorelease, then some time later, the NSArray in my calling method (that is assigned to the returned pointer) losses it's reference because the original form the static method is cleaned up. I can't release the NSArray object in the static method because it needs to be around for the return and assignment. What is the right way to return an object (like the NSArray) from a static class, and have it hang around for the calling class, but then get cleaned up later when it is no longer needed? Do I have to create the object first in the caller and pass in a pointer to the object and then return that same object form the static method? I know this is a basic O-O problem, I just never had this issue in Java and I do not do much C/C++. Thanks for your help.

  Complete and utter neophyte to Objective-C and the entire Mac platform so don't flame me please =). Basically I'm trying to create a simple game. The game has a board which I've created a class for and a board is comprised of squares which I also created a class for (board and square respectively). In my view controller I'm trying to instantiate a board and add boardSize^2 squares to said object. board contains an NSMutableArray *squares. I've also created a convenience method which sets an NSNumber *boardSize called initWithDimension. In my touchesBegan handler I have the following: board *game_board = [[board alloc] initWithDimension:10]; int size = [game_board.boardSize intValue]; for(int i = 0; i <= size; i++) { square *s = [[square alloc] init]; [game_board.squares addObject:s]; [s release]; } NSLog(@"%i", size); NSLog(@"%@", [game_board.squares objectAtIndex:0]); ...and I'm getting 10 (as expected) and then (null). This is probably glaringly obvious to an experienced developer, I've just struggled for an hour trying to solve it and have given up. I've tried it without the [s release] as well, same result. I've also imported square.h and board.h. Any ideas what's wrong here? Any other comments on what I'm brutalizing? Thanks.

  I know theres a better solution using arc4random (it's on my to-try-out-function list), but I wanted to try out using the rand() and stand(time(NULL)) function first. I've created a NSMutableArray and chuck it with 5 data. Testing out how many number it has was fine.
