  • How to use LINQ to SQL to create ranked search results?

    I am looking for a way to use l2s to return ranked result based on keywords. I would like to take a keyword and be able to search the table for that keyword using .contains(). The trick that I haven't been able to figure out is how to get a count of how many times that keyqord appears, and then .OrderByDescending() based on that count. So if i had some thing like: string keyword = "SomeKeyword"; IQueryable<Article> searchResults = from a in GenesisRepository.Article where a.Body.Contains(keyword) select a; What is the best way to order searchResults based on the number of times keyword appears in a.Body?     I'm a newbie and I've got this issue: My system has set up debian_5 theme but I want to get rid of it and restore the Ubuntu 11.10 default grub theme/splash/design (as you prefer) that is I think plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo. I installed/reinstalled it by Ubuntu Software Center, but it didn't anything. [For your curiosity: The cause of that unwanted theme (debian 5) it's that I have tried lot of packages and now I can't restore the default grub design (that I liked so much!)]

There have been questions about this before on stackoverflow, but the last one was over a year ago (over 400 answers), which is where I got the products listed above.     Can someone enlighthen me with regards to Linq please? I have a dataset that is populated via a SQL Stored Procedure, the format of which is below: Country | Brand | Variant | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 The number of rows varies between 50 and several thousand. What I'm trying to do is use Linq to interrogate the dataset (there will be several Linq queries based on user options), but a simple example would be to SUM the year columns based on Brand.     It's no secret that application logs can go well beyond the limits of naive log viewers, and the desired viewer functionality (say, filtering the log based on a condition, or highlighting particular message types, or splitting it into sublogs based on a field value, or merging several logs based on a time axis, or bookmarking etc.) is beyond the abilities of large-file text viewers. I wonder: Whether decent specialized applications exist (I haven't found any) What functionality might one expect from such an application? (I'm asking because my student is writing such an application, and the functionality above has already been implemented to a certain extent of usability)

    I have a requirement to filter a list of Clients based on if they haven't had any jobs booked in the last x months. In my code I have two lists, one is my Clients and the other is a filtered List of Jobs between today and x months ago and the idea is to filter Clients based on their id not appearing in the jobs list. I tried the following: filteredClients.Where(n => jobsToSearch.Count(j => j.Client == n.ClientID) == 0).ToList(); But I seem to get ALL clients regardless. I can easily do a foreach but this severly slows down the process. How can I filter the client list based on the job list effectively?

    I created a custom keyboardlayout Coffee++ for Linux that works fine in most apps: http://coffeeplusplus.z11.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13&p=34#p34 I created a debian package, that adds the needed changes to the keyboard configuration and creates a shell script which which you can swap between normal QWERTY and Coffee++ The letters all work fine, only the arrow-combinations, for ex. AltGr+J for "Arrow-left" and so on don't work in all applications. How can I make the Arrow-key-combinations work in all apps?

  • VBA for filtering columns

    I have a big database-like sheet, first row contains headers. I would like a subset of rows of this table based on column values. Two issues: 1) VBA-wise I would like to loop through the columns, when the values for all necessary columns all match, copy the entire row into a new sheet. 2) The subset of rows is based on a list. This should be the first column to be looped through. For example I want all rows where the value in column A is equal to one of the values in my list. Is there any possibility to autofilter strings based on a list (column) of strings? EDIT Thanks to @Doug Glancy the autofiltering works now, so I've removed my (horrible) code and issue 1 is solved.

  • System.NullReferenceException with WhoCanHelpMe Unit Test

    I'm working with a test project based on WhoCanHelpMe, which is based on Sharp Architecture, NHibernateValidator, etc. As its written the when_the_profile_tasks_is_asked_to_create_a_profile unit test creates the profile object and saves it without issue. Now the profile object is a CreateProfileDetails type that derives from their own ValidatableValueObject which inherits the IValidatable interface. The problem surfaces when my class is based on an Entity rather than their ValidatableValueObject. When the test is run a System.NullReferenceException because Validate() is null. I'm afraid that I'm at a loss to resolve this bad behavior. Does anyone have some suggestions to get to the bottom of this? Thanks, -Ted-

    Here's a description of my build (simple) Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t Ram: 16gb 1333 mhz Board: TA990FXE Video Card : HD 6870 HDD Ubuntu is installed on: 320gb caviar blue 7200rpm That should be sufficient enough to diagnose this. Yes I did install the AMD video drivers recommended by Ubuntu. Programs take 2+ seconds to load, and I really don't tolerate that...Windows 7 loads programs as fast as my hdd allows Unless this is how Ubuntu is meant to work...then I'll just go back to Debian command-line.

    Why my computer runs too slow when I install Ubuntu or any other Linux (Debian works better than other distros), but with windows works fine...?     I have an array of tags per item like so: item1 = ['new', 'expensive'] item2 = ['expensive', 'lame'] I also have a boolean expression as a string based on possible tags: buy_it = "(new || expensive) && !lame" How can I determine if an item matches the buying criteria based on the tags associated with it? My original thought was to do a gsub on all words in buy_it to become 'true' or 'false' based on them existing in the itemx tags array and then exec the resulting string to get a boolean result. But since the Ruby community is usually more creative than me, is there a better solution?

    Some background information: As you may know, in a Debian package, there may be alternative dependencies, written in the CONTROL file as Depends: apache2|something-else, for example. How does apt select which dependencies to choose, and how can I override this so I can minimize download size? I'm on a slow connection on some locations and need it to use the smallest total download size. How can I force it to do so?
