• Install APK on ICS through Eclipse

  I rooted my Incredible and flashed an ICS rom, and I can't seem to install an app through Eclipse for testing (or by manually pushing it through adb). I know I have to change the permissions of /data/local to write and execute others in order to allow APKs to be installed, but when I adb shell into my phone and call chmod o=wx /data/local I get a message saying Bad mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks! EDIT: According to this question I need to change the permissions of /data/local in order for this to work; I'm receiving the same errors as the OP of that question.

• How to generate makefile targets from variables?

  I currently have a makefile to process some data. The makefile gets the inputs to the data processing by sourcing a CONFIG file, which defines the input data in a variable. Currently, I symlink the input files to a local directory, i.e. the makefile contains: tmp/%.txt: tmp ln -fs $(shell echo $(INPUTS) | tr ' ' '\n' | grep $(patsubst tmp/%,%,$@)) $@ This is not terribly elegant, but appears to work. Is there a better way? Basically, given INPUTS = /foo/bar.txt /zot/snarf.txt I would like to be able to have e.g. %.out: %.txt some command As well as targets to merge results depending on all $(INPUT) files. Also, apart from the kludgosity, the makefile doesn't work correctly with -j, something that is crucial for the analysis to complete in reasonable time. I guess that's a bug in GNU make, but any hints welcome.

  I am entry level .Net developer and using it to develop web sites. I started with classic asp and last year jumped on the ship with a short C# book. As I developed I learned more and started to see that coming from classic asp I always used C# like scripting language. For example in my last project I needed to encode video on the webserver and wrote a code like public class Encoder { Public static bool Encode(string videopath) { ...snip... return true; } } While searching samples related to my project I’ve seen people doing this public class Encoder { Public static Encode(string videopath) { EncodedVideo encoded = new EncodedVideo(); ...snip... encoded.EncodedVideoPath = outputFile; encoded.Success = true; ...snip... } } public class EncodedVideo { public string EncodedVideoPath { get; set; } public bool Success { get; set; } } As I understand second example is more object oriented but I don’t see the point of using EncodedVideo object. Am I doing something wrong? Does it really necessary to use this sort of code in a web app?

• PHP Thumbnail Image Resizing with proportions

  Hi all. As a brief run down, I am currently making a dating type site. Users can create accounts and upload profile pictures (up to 8). In order to display these in the browse area of the website, I am looking for a way in PHP (with third party processor/scripts) to resize all images uploaded to have thumbnails that adhere to certain dimensions. As an example, I will want "profile" images (thumbnails) to be NO larger than 120*150px. The scripting needs to resize uploaded images (regardless of whether they are portrait or landscape, and regardless of proportions) to adhere to these dimensions without getting stretched. The width (eg. 120pixels) should always remain the same, but the height (eg. 150px) can vary in order to keep the image in proportion. If it's a landscape photo, I'm assuming the script would need to take a chunk out of the middle of the image? The reason that all images to be resized is so that when profiles are display in a grid that all thumbnails are roughly the same size. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

• Hudson trigger builds remotely gives a forbidden 403 error

  I have a shell script on the same machine that hudson is deployed on and upon executing it, it calls wget on a hudson build trigger URL. Since its the same machine, I access it as http://localhost:8080/hudson/job/jobname/build?token=sometoken Typically, this is supposed to trigger a build on the project. But I get a 403 forbidden when I do this. Anybody has any idea why? I have tried this using a browser and it triggers the build, but via the command line it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

• CentOS: revert python version back to original

  Hi all, I installed python 2.6 using the instructions here on CentOS 5.4. However I realized it was a bad move and I need to revert back to 2.4, which was there originally. Can anyone guide me on how to undo what I did here? In particular, I am not sure how to undo this: Configure ld to find your shared libs: $ cat /etc/ld.so.conf.d/opt-python2.5.conf /opt/python2.5/lib (hit enter) (hit ctrl-d to return to shell) $ ldconfig I tried removing the alias and the symlink and even re-aliasing python to /usr/bin/python, but when I try to install an RPM i get this error: error: Failed dependencies: libpython2.4.so.1.0 is needed by ... • What's the fastest way to check the availability of a SQL Server server?

  I have an MS Access program in use in multiple locations. It connects to MS SQL Server tables, but the server name is different in each location. I am looking for the fastest way to test for the existence of a server. The code takes about one second if the server is available and takes about 8 seconds for each server that is unavailable. I'd like to get both of these lower, if possible, but especially the fail case as this one happens most often.

• Execute Stored Procedure from Classic ASP

  For some fantastic reason I find myself debugging a problem in a Classic ASP page (at least 10 years of my life lost in the last 2 days). I'm trying to execute a stored procedure which contains some OUT parameters. The problem is that one of the OUT parameters is not being populated when the stored procedure returns. I can execute the stored proc from SQL management studio (this is 2008) and all the values are being set and returned exactly as expected. declare @inVar1 varchar(255) declare @inVar2 varchar(255) declare @outVar1 varchar(255) declare @outVar2 varchar(255) SET @inVar2 = 'someValue' exec theStoredProc @inVar1 , @inVar2 , @outVar1 OUT, @outVar2 OUT print '@outVar1=' + @outVar1 print '@outVar2=' + @outVar2 Works great. Not even a little bit. (Another ten years of my life down the drain) The third parameter is simply NULL - which is what I'm experiencing in the Classic ASP page as well. Could someone shed some light on this? Am I completely daft for thinking that the classic ASP code would be the same as the VBScript code? I think it's using the same scripting engine and syntax so I should be ok, but I'm not 100% sure. The result I'm seeing from my VBScript is the same as I'm seeing in ASP.

  i have an RoR application Log, which similar to the book store app, my logs_controller has all default action: index, show, update, create, delete.. now i need to add new action :toCSV, i defined it in logs_controller, and add new route in the config/routes as: map.resources :logs, :collection = { :toCSV = :get }. from irb, i checked the routes and see the new routes added already: rs = ActionController::Routing::Routes puts rs.routes GET /logs/toCSV(.:format)? {:controller="logs", :action="toCSV"} then ran ‘rake routes’ command in shell, it returned: toCSV_logs GET /logs/toCSV(.:format) {:controller="logs", :action="toCSV"} everything seems working. finally in my views code, i added the following: link_to 'Export to CSV', toCSV_logs_path when access it in the brower 'http://localhost:3000/logs/toCSV', it complained: Couldn't find Log with ID=toCSV i checked in script/server, and saw this one: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Log with ID=toCSV): app/controllers/logs_controller.rb:290:in `show' seems when i click that link, it direct it to the action 'show' instead of 'toCSV', thus it took 'toCSV' as an id...anyone know why would this happen? and to fix it?   I've a domain called Modulo with some properties and a Controller with a method that create a object from model and save it, when execute save the shell show this error: La propiedad [{0}] de la clase [{1}] no puede ser nulo But if i set the constraint nullable to true, the error show again. I think that i should not set this cosntraint. The model is linked to a mysql table with all properties except id allow null. I think I am not doing something wrong here. Any advice?? • Best practice way to handle variable content margin?

  Ok, so a quick site that I am throwing together for a friend has about 20 static pages. Each one with a small amount of content. the div Container contains, well, the div Content, and the div Content contains, obviously, the content that changes on each page. Now, depending on the length of the content, I want a different margin at the top. The less content, then the larger the margin. Simply an aesthetic choice. For example, if the content almost fills the static sized container, there is less padding, but a 1 line page of content might be 1/3 of the way down the static container. Centering the content in the div wont do, as that creates too large of a margin. Whats the best way to handle this? A new class for each content with a different margin? A new Id, so that it is in its own special div positioned or margined differently? Inline css on each page to override the standard css for div Content? A differnt spacer div inside Container before Content on each page? Some sort of scripting along the lines of margin of Content = (ContainerHeight - ContentHeight) / 3? Whats the acceptable way of doing this? I don't want to get into bad habits.

• Scala and Java BigDecimal

  I want to switch from Java to a scripting language for the Math based modules in my app. This is due to the readability, and functional limitations of mathy Java. For e.g, in Java I have this: BigDecimal x = new BigDecimal("1.1"); BigDecimal y = new BigDecimal("1.1"); BigDecimal z = x.multiply(y.exp(new BigDecimal("2")); As you can see, without BigDecimal operator overloading, simple formulas get complicated real quick. With doubles, this looks fine, but I need the precision. I was hoping in Scala I could do this: var x = 1.1; var y = 0.1; print(x + y); And by default I would get decimal-like behaviour, alas Scala doesn't use decimal calculation by default. Then I do this in Scala: var x = BigDecimal(1.1); var y = BigDecimal(0.1); println(x + y); And I still get an imprecise result. Is there something I am not doing right in Scala? Maybe I should use Groovy to maximise readability (it uses decimals by default)?

• 'Fixed' for loop - what is more efficient?

  I'm creating a tic-tac-toe game, and one of the functions has to iterate through each of the 9 fields (tic-tac-toe is played on a 3x3 grid). I was wondering what is more efficient (which one is perhaps faster, or what is the preferred way of scripting in such situation) - using two for nested loops like this: for(var i=0; i<3; i++) { for(var j=0; j<3; j++) { checkField(i, j); } } or hard-coding it like this: checkField(0, 0); checkField(0, 1); checkField(0, 2); checkField(1, 0); checkField(1, 1); checkField(1, 2); checkField(2, 0); checkField(2, 1); checkField(2, 2); As there are only 9 combinations, it would be perhaps overkill to use two nested for loops, but then again this is clearer to read. The for loop, however, will increment variables and check whether i and j are smaller than 3 every time as well. In this example, the time saving at least might be negligible, but what is the preferred way of coding in this case? Thanks.

• Clickonce program will not start when launched from shell_execute

  I have a very old program that I have no control over. It launches a filetype with its default application like this(I cannot modify this code): LET Err (SHELL_EXECUTE 'open' (FIX_MESG '"{1}"' File_name) '' '') ^^The above code works, so long as that filetype isn't associated with ClickOnce. The old program is 32 bit, the OS is Windows 7 64 bit. I can compile my clickonce program as anything, but none seem to work. (I've tried x84, x64 and anyCPU) How can I make a 32 bit program use shell execute to launch a ClickOnce program on a 64bit OS?

• Python Daemon Subprocess not working at boot

  I am attempting to write a python daemon that will launch at boot. The goal of the script is to receive a job from our gearman load balancing server and complete the job. I am using the python-daemon module from pypi (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/python-daemon/). The nature of the job that it is completing is converting images in the orf (olympus raw image format) to jpeg. In order to accomplish this an outside program is used, ufraw in this case. The problem comes in when I start the daemon at boot, if I launch from the shell it runs perfectly and completes the work. When it starts at boot it is unable to launch the subprocess command. commandString = '/usr/bin/ufraw-batch --interpolation=four-color --wb=camera --compression=100 --output="' + outfile + '" --out-type=jpg --overwrite "' + infile + '"' args = shlex.split(commandString) process = subprocess.Popen(args).wait() I am not sure what I am doing wrong.   In the list of new features in Silverlight 4 you will find following: Webcam and microphone to allow sharing of video and audio for instance for chat or customer service applications. Silverlight captures an audio stream as raw pcm. So how would you realize for example audio/video chat or client/server audio recording application without any encoding on the client side, where there is no APIs in Silverlight available? Much less in a Silverlight you cannot use an unmanaged dll. You can use a com automation (a new feature of the Silverlight 4, I think only for Windows) but only if it was already installed on the client side (do you know any encoding COM servers that are installed with the windows). Otherwise, how would you deploy a custom COM server within you Silverlight application? The only way I found is either to deploy a command-line encoding and use it with COM AutomationFactory.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") or to implement an encoding to use it in your own AudioSink.

• How do I get user input into a PackageMaker package?

  I'm trying to create an install package. I've got all my components, and I think I understand most of the process. I want to have an install/set-up script that is run as part of the install. I planned to put it either as a post-install action or a post-install script. The problem is that I need user-input. I can't figure out how to either get user input into the script, or how to add a page in the install UI that has a place for user input and then pass that on to the script. I guess, I could write an apple-script with a dialog to ask the question, and then pass that information on to my shell script (or, write the whole thing in the applescript) but that seems unnecessarily complicated... Is there a normal way to do this? Thanks

  I am having some problems using subprocess.call to export a database using mysqldump. I'm using Python 3.1 installed on Windows 7. from time import gmtime, strftime import subprocess DumpDir = "c:/apps/sqlbackup/"; DumpFile = "mysqldump-" + strftime("%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S", gmtime()) + ".sql"; params = [r"mysqldump --user root --password=mypassword --force --flush-privileges --compress --comments mydatabase --result-file=" + DumpDir + DumpFile]; subprocess.call(params, shell=True); The above code causes a blank file to be created in the DumpDir. I've tried getting python to print the command so I can test it via the CMD prompt using: print(subprocess.list2cmdline(params)); If I paste the output to the CMD prompt and execute it, everything works fine. Any ideas? I'm new to Python, so I am sure the answer is simple but I've tried so many variations to get this working that I just can't figure this out.

• Jenkins merge dev branch to master with -Xtheir stategy

  In GIT Plugin, we can merge one branch to other on work space before the starting of Build. However, plugin does not provide -Xtheir strategy. Now i want dev branch to merge on master, validate test cases and if successful then only push back to master. Problem i face is that if there is a merge conflict, i want changes of dev branch to exits (i know i can use -Xtheirs manually). [Like i can check git as Source Code Management, but can;t use its Additional behavior 'Merge Before Build' ] However when i run the required code in Execute Shell Section of Jenkins Job, It does not works as required and fails with error: fatal: dev - not something we can merge Jenkins Job Code is echo Start of Build git checkout dev git checkout master git status git merge dev --no-commit echo End of Build I have also used them with bask -l -c "", but is same problem.

  My application is basically a shell which expects an input of type cmd [x], where cmd is constant and x is optional. So cmd 1 is legal as well as cmd by itself - then I assume a default parameter for x. I am doing this: char cmd[64]; scanf("%s", cmd); int arg; scanf("%d", &arg); // but this should be optional How can I read the integer parameter, and set it to a default if none is currently available in the prompt? I do not want the prompt to wait for additional input if it was not given in the original command. I tried several versions using fgetc() and getchar() and comparing them to EOF but to no avail. Each version I tried ends up waiting on that optional integer parameter.

• Why can't QFile read from the "~" directory?

  I've tried the following short example to find out about a bug in a bigger program I am working on. It looks like QFile doesn't support unix (or the shell's) notation for the home directory: #include <QFile> #include <QDebug> int main() { QFile f("~/.vimrc"); if (f.open(QIODevice::ReadOnly)) { qDebug() << f.readAll(); f.close(); } else { qDebug() << f.error(); } } As soon as I replace the "~" with my real home directory path, it works. Is there an easy workaround - some setting to enable? Or do I have to go the "ugly" way and ask QDir for the home directory of the current user and prepend that manually to each path?
