• Where is Nautilus icon file located and how is it chosen?

  When I plug my Garmin Nuvi 265 GPS device into my computer via a USB cable, it mounts as a drive with a blue triangle icon instead of the default gray hard drive icon. HOW does Nautilus know how to do this? After much laborious searching, I found that the icon info is stored in ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus/desktop-metadata/GARMIN@46@volume/gconf.xml -- but only when a custom icon is selected. So Where is this blue icon file? Why does Nautilus use it instead of the plain drive icon? Is there a way to have give each of my drives a custom icon -- so that when I stick in my various flash drives, they have a distinctive icon (i.e. a 'favicon.ico' file on root or such?) Using Gnome 2.30.2 on Ubuntu 10.04.

• Can these game be fully coded in html5/javascript?

  I mean the mechanics of the game. Would it be possible? -Pokemon GBA series, rendering the world would be easy, but what about battle mechanics? -MapleStory, after seen dragonbound.net which is an identical copy of Gunbound I would think it's rather possible, but I'm still not sure if javascript can handle all the mechanics of the world. It would be heavy on resources I guess? I'm asking this because I'm really interested in html5 game develop(I really think in a future will destroy flash on game dev ground). I want to have an idea of how far games developed with the html5/javascript technology can go. I got especially inspired by dragonbound. I really think it pushes htmlt/javascript to the limits (game dev).

• Flashing task bar(firefox) in lxde panel and ubuntu internal error

  I have upgraded from ubuntu10.04 to 12.04 and installed lxde. The panel is now customized according to my convenience. The problem is there was a default checked option for "Flash when there is any window requiring attention" in Task bar(window list) and now when I run firefox, at times the concerned bar in the panel window list starts flashing but it is not clear exactly why at that moment firefox requires my attention. Normally this happens after I download some files (pdf files) and keep using firefox. The only solution I have found is to quit firefox and even after that I receive this message "Sorry, ubuntu12.04 has experienced an internal error. If you notice further problems, try restarting the computer." As usual I report the detailed message to ubuntu as suggested and finally restart the computer. So there are two problems, first, exactly why firefox needs my attention at times and second, why immediately after this, ubuntu experiences an internal error. Please suggest what I should do.

• Best way to slice up a non rectangular image?

  I have the image below and need to create a rollover for each "piece" or arrow in the circle. Because the image isn't rectangular, it boggles how me how I'm going to do this without having badly overlapping pieces. As you can see from the image below, the slices will overlap each other (quite a bit), which will not be good for the rollover. Does anybody have any ideas as to how to accomplish this without resorting to Flash or HTML5? The majority of our site's users use dinosaur browsers that don't support HTML5. • Which mobile device is appropriate as a utility tool for a web master?

  Basically, I'm looking for a device to use on the road and I would prefer to not have to sit down for the majority of the tasks (which rules out netbooks, in my mind). I'm also hoping to spend less than $500. This is what I'd like to "capably" be able to do on the device: Browse the web in non-mobile format, flash is a plus Email, chat, etc Have access to a decent text editor and ftp OR a browser that supports BESPIN/ACE Some sort of SSH support I'm looking at rooted Android phones and iPhone/iPads... though the phone aspect is only icing (it would be cool to consolidate the two devices and have net access through cell networks, but I'm not married to the idea). Are there cheap linux tablets that are ready for prime-time yet? I suppose that would be ideal. All suggestions welcome!

• Chrome dispay Glich when GPU acc. on

  Hy Everyone! I have some graphics glich when enable gpu acc. in chrome. If i disable acceleraion it fix the glich but, in full HD most of flash videos frame rate drop above frogs a**, so very slow... :) Any idea, what can i do? I Upload 2 pics from glich. My hardware: CM Hyper TX 3 on AMD A5300 with HD 7480D 6 GB RAM I use official AMD driver from amd.com, Ubuntu 14.04(I upgraded from 12.04, in Ubuntu 12, same glitch with old drivers.) I reinstalld x.org completly and purge all config files, but this didnt resolve the problem.   As many know, if you serve a page over https and the content loads resources (images, stylesheets, js, SWF objects, etc) over http, older versions of Internet Explorer will show the user a warning saying "This page contains both secure and non-secure items". This is discomforting to many non-technical users. Usually, I can look at the HTML source and identify which item(s) are triggering this error. Sometimes a Flash object will load something else or some embedded javascript will put a new object in the DOM and trigger this. What tools are good for quickly tracking down the source of the warning?

• Pendrive USB Ubuntu installation - black screen on boot

  I see many posts on this, but no solution. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my 16GB USB flash drive using this official link using their tool Universal USB Installer. Installation to USB went fine so I set my laptop to boot from USB and the Ubuntu was recognized. I saw the usual boot screen and I chose option "Run Ubuntu from this USB". The boot process started and after 5-6 seconds the screen goes black and non-responsive. I thought that it hang on X loading so I tried switching to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 but the system did not respond. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong? PS. My laptop is HP Pavillion G6

• How to prevent my screen from either dimming or the screen-lock starting when watching YouTube?

  My screen brightness used to dim after a few seconds to preserve battery. This is default in Ubuntu 12.04. However when watching video it should not dim. This works correctly when I watch videos using native applications like VLC. With in-browser video, however, the screen is not prevented from dimming. This is very annoying as you have to move your cursor every 10 seconds or so. I used to use Mac OSX where I had the same dimming settings and Flash videos were taken into account correctly. Anyone an idea how you can make YouTube prevent your screen from dimming?

  I'm having some trouble using the easing equations suggested by Robert Penner for ActionScript (http://www.robertpenner.com/easing/, and a Flash demo here) in my C# XNA game. Firstly, what is the definition of the following variables passed in as arguments to each equation? float t, float b, float c, float d I'm currently calculating the new X position of a sprite in the Update() loop, however even for the linear tween equation I'm getting some odd results. I'm using the following values: float t = gameTime.TotalGameTime.TotalMilliseconds; float d = 8000f; float b = x.Position.X; float c = (ScreenManager.Game.GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Width >> 1) - (x.Position.X + x.frameSize.X / 2); And this equation for linear easing: float val = c*t/d + b;

  I was trying to replace Zorin OS 8 with ubuntu 14.04 (32 bits). What I have tried: I took an empty pen drive and downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 iso file on to this pen drive. I then restarted my laptop (Lenovo N 3000) and pressed F12 I then selected the USB drive in the boot options. After sometime I got the Zorin flash screen again. I know I am "fundamentally" wrong in the manner how I am executing this installation process. If you could please provide me a stepwise instruction.

• Handheld device software - Handheld tuners?

  Hey I've been looking around and really don't understand what software some of these company's use for their handheld devices. I've used a lot of Handheld Tuners (Cobb Accessport, Diablo Sport). I've gotten more and more knowledgable of programming and I'm really wanting to understand what software they use on these devices to have a graphical interface. And to hold all the files to flash over to the ecu. I'm just unsure how you would get basically all the components to work together (screen, buttons, memory) without having drivers installed. I could be totally wrong here on using the term drivers, but that's what I would like some help to get more knowledge on (only thing I've really found is making a handheld game boy from scratch,but that was using a emulator.). I've tried looking it up but can't really find a good write up or explanation anywhere I look. • Browsing redirected and ad playing in background - Malware?

  Recently i have noticed when browsing a web page will be redirected to something other than what i click on. For instance, when i tried going to www.askubuntu.com via a link on ubuntu.com it redirected me to some other site than this one. Also when on a page with no flash videos of any kind or pop up windows an ad will start playing. The only way to get it to stop is to wait for it to finish or close the browser and start over again. I have run Clam AV but it has not found anything.

• What to use for "localhost" that includes PHP/SQL functionality?

  I really do not want to install Linux at the moment, I would have to borrow a USB key, move files, format it, flash it, format it again, move files back, give it back... What would you recommend that is lightweight, easily and cleanly uninstallable afterwards (will install Linux when I get a new DVD-ROM, which will be in ~2 weeks), that also supports PHP and SQL? To be precise, I want to install a Wordpress blog, a few plugins, etc, and develop a theme. If there is no such thing for Windows (7, x64 if that matters), let me know too, I will borrow the USB key then (even though it's a pain).

  I've got a server running Ubuntu 10.04. I've already gotten openssh for ssh and sftp on it. I've been looking for a web-based (http, or preferably https) file server, perhaps a web-front-end to an (S)FTP server, that allows access to a specific folder, and also allows uploads. It requires user authentication, preferably using PAM. This web-based solution is for users that are not allowed to use FTP software / browser extension and don't have flash / java browser plugins within their corporate environments. So far I have looked into: Webmin: Includes a file manager, however it uses Java, and I'm looking for a plugin-free implementation. Apache2: I was able to set up https and PAM authentication, but the barebone implementation doesn't include file upload (as far as I'm aware of). HFS: Haven't tried it out because it is for Windows/wine only, and I don't want to run it under wine.

• Is HTML5 more secure to develop for than Silverlight?

  I'm learning Silverlight, and I know that if I master it, I can apply the same concepts to WPF, which means I can do either web or desktop development pretty easily. But I've read articles and followed the discussion online, and I understand HTML5 is gaining traction for being cross-platform, and a lot of people seem to be moving to HTML5. From my understanding, any HTML5 application would be built with HTML and JavaScript (or Flash). But is it secure? It seems like anyone can easily use their browser's "view source" option and grab your code. Is this something I should be worried about, or is there a way to protect against it?

  After creating a vhd and going through that process i'm unable to install win7 x64. I've went through various settings and trying to get it right. It'll boot the windows install but then indicate the following error (image included too): A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note if the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step. I've also set up my storage tree like so: Would anyone know what the issue could be? It's asking for cd/dvd device drivers and i'm unable to install.

• Cannot mount USB disks due to "not authorized" error

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 (.2?) installed. I don't plan to need GUI after setup so I modified the grub to start in console. However, whenever I want to start up GUI I need to type startx. Simple/basic stuff. However I seem to be hitting a snag: I am having trouble mounting/accessing USB flash drives in the GUI I started in the console. "Unable to mount location - not authorized". Seemed like it should be an easy fix, but can't figure out how I'm overlooking it. Can someone help me out?

In order to be really useful, such application should have: -basic CRM functionality to track who is providing the ads -multilingual multi country support: have the ability to specify for the same ad, different versions for multiple languages/countries -predefined ad formats (google Ads, flash ads...) and sizes with corresponding PHP helpers so as to insert in the HTML code the necessary markup to properly integrate the ad. Ideally if that application could be desgined for Zend Framework that would be awesome (but I think I'm dreaming at this point).
