not able to style a ul inside a nav tag

I am trying to make a nav menu for my website and have been using http://www.onextrapixel.com/2011/06/03/how-to-create-a-horizontal-dropdown-menu-with-html-css-and-jquery/ as a guide. It has worked fine but as soon as I try to add ( id="coolMenu" ) to the nav tag it stops working. I took it away from the ul tag and added it to the nav tag and it no longer works. It does not display anything at all. What am in doing wrong? Why does my TextBox with custom control template not have a visible text cursor?

The visual poperties are set correctly, even typing to the textbox works, but there is no insertion cursor (the | symbol) visible which makes editing challenging for our users. Problems with createImage(int width, int height)

I looked around, and it seems that createImage() will return null if GraphicsEnvironment.isHeadless() returns true. I don't understand exactly what the isHeadless() method's purpose is, but I thought it might have something to do with the compiler or IDE, so I tried on two, both of which get the same error (Eclipse, and BlueJ). Anyone have any idea what the source of the error is, and how I might fix it? Thanks in advance Jonathan ................................................................... Lines don't overlap when they should Java Swing

I'm drawing lines in a JFrame on a self made gridPanel. Problem is, I draw the lines between 2 points. When I have a line that is between point 1 and point 2 and a line between point 2 and point 3, the lines should connect. This however isn,t the case, there is a small gap in between, no idea why. But it isn't drawing till the end of the specified point. (start point is correct.) GDI+ & Delphi, PNG resource, DrawImage, ColorConversion -> Out of Memory

I have started to toy around with GDI+ in Delphi 2009. Among the things that I wanted to do was to load a PNG resource and apply a Color Conversion to it when drawing it to the Graphics object. I am using the code provided in http://www.bilsen.com/gdiplus/. To do that I just added a new constructor to TGPBitmap that uses the same code found in <www.codeproject.com>/KB/GDI-plus/cgdiplusbitmap.aspx (C++) or <www.masm32.com>/board/index.php?topic=10191.0 (MASM) converted to Delphi. However, if I try to apply a Color Conversion when drawing it, then I get a lovely error: (GDI+ Error) Out of Memory. If I load the bitmap from a file, or if I create a temporary to which I draw the initial bitmap and then use the temporary, then it works just fine. What bugs me is that if I take the C++ project from codeproject, add the same PNG as resource and use the same color conversion (in other words, do the exact same thing I am doing in Delphi in the same order and with the same function calls that happen to go to the same DLL), then it works. clock and date showing on a live site but not on localhost

I've got clock.swf and date.swf working fine on a live site, now I am using the same code to set up a local develop environment. Everything is working well except the clock.swf and date.swf stopped working on localhost. Two same yellow errors "You need to update your Flash plugin. Click here if you want to continue." but of course my Flash player is up to date since the live site is working fine. I'll post the code below which I think has caused the error. I've been searching online for the last couple of hours but no luck, anyone has got into an issue like this before? What can be the possible cause? Any help is appreciated. Can draw on only half of UIView

Hello. I am trying to draw grid on a UIView on a UIScrollView. The width of UIView is about 1000 pixels. However, I can draw lines only about first 340 pixels of the UIView. Can anyone help me on this? C# slowdown while creating a bitmap - calculating distances from a large List of places for each pixel

I'm creating a graphic of the glow of lights above a geographic location based upon Walkers Law: Skyglow=0.01*Population*DistanceFromCenter^-2.5 I have a CSV file of places with 66,000 records using 5 fields (id,name,population,latitude,longitude), parsed on the FormLoad event and stored it in: List<string[]> placeDataList Then I set up nested loops to fill in a bitmap using SetPixel. For each pixel on the bitmap, which represents a coordinate on a map (latitude and longitude), the program loops through placeDataList – calculating the distance from that coordinate (pixel) to each place record. The distance (along with population) is used in a calculation to find how much cumulative sky glow is contributed to the coordinate from each place record. So, for every pixel, 66,000 distance calculations must be made. The problem is, this is predictably EXTREMELY slow – on the order of one line of pixels per 30 seconds or so on a 320 pixel wide image. This is unrelated to SetPixel, which I know is also slow, because the speed is similarly slow when adding the distance calculation results to an array. I don’t actually need to test all 66,000 records for every pixel, only the records within 150 miles (i.e. no skyglow is contributed to a coordinate from a small town 3000 miles away). But to find which records are within 150 miles of my coordinate I would still need to loop through all the records for each pixel. I can't use a smaller number of records because all 66,000 places contribute to skyglow for SOME coordinate in my map as it loops. This seems like a Catch-22, so I know there must be a better method out there. Like I mentioned, the slowdown is related to how many calculations I’m making per pixel, not anything to do with the bitmap. Pagination links do not work properly - incorrect PHP function??

Hi everyone, I am still trying to figure out how to fix my pagination script to work properly. the problem I am having is when I click any of the pagination number links to go the next page, the new content does not load. literally nothing happens and when looking at the console in Firebug, nothing is sent or loaded. I have on the main page 3 links to filter the content and display it. When any of these links are clicked the results are loaded and displayed along with the associated pagination numbers for that specific content. I believe the problem is coming from the function(generate_pagination.php (seen below)). Windows opaque UserControl not refreshing any graphical changes made on it

I have created a Windows UserControl. It actually paints a Grid (i.e. vertical and horizontal lines) using Graphics. User can change each cell height and width, and according to that Grid is refreshed. Overriding the OnPaint event I have created the grid. I used SetStyle(ControlStyles.Opaque, true) to make it transparent. I used this control on a form and from there I change the values of the cell height and width but due to Opaque the new grid is overlapping on the previous one and making it clumsy. How do I resolve this? Elements of website don't work in IE

On the site I'm working on for my high school basketball team, certain elements don't work in Internet Explorer. The site is hermantownbasketball.com. The boys basketball sidebar should have nested drop down menus, one when you mouse over the team, such as "High School" and then another when you mouse over the grade under the team, such as 9th grade. This works perfectly fine in chrome, however, I can't get it to work in any version of Internet Explorer. Below is the part of the html and the corresponding css I am using. Space Between Table Rows

This should be a simple problem, but I am have a tough time getting the html to display the way I want it... The problem is the space between my table rows...I don't want space between my rows. I just want my table to look like a spreadsheet with black borders. I am using a datalist and have a table in the datalist control's templates. I am drawing a header for a timeline control. It looks like this: I go to 0.01 millisecond per line, so for a 10 minute timeline I am looking at drawing 60000 lines + 6000 labels. This takes a while, ~10 seconds. I would like to offload this from the UI thread. Is it possible at all to do drawHeaderLines in a non-UI thread? Could I use data binding for drawing the lines? Would this help with UI responsiveness? I would imagine I can use databinding, but the Styling is probably beyond my current WPF ability (coming from winforms and trying to learn what all these style objects are and binding them). Would anyone be able to supply a starting point for tempting this out? Or Google a tutorial that would get me started?

SSIS - XML Source Script

The XML Source in SSIS is great if you have a 1 to 1 mapping between entity and table. You can do more complex mapping but it becomes very messy and won't perform. What other options do you have? The challenge with XML processing is to not need a huge amount of memory. I remember using the early versions of Biztalk with loaded the whole document into memory to map from one document type to another. This was fine for small documents but was an absolute killer for large documents. You therefore need a streaming approach. For flexibility however you want to be able to generate your rows easily, and if you've ever used the XmlReader you will know its ugly code to write. That brings me on to LINQ. The is an implementation of LINQ over XML which is really nice. You can write nice LINQ queries instead of the XMLReader stuff. The downside is that by default LINQ to XML requires a whole XML document to work with. No streaming. Your code would look like this. I did some googling and came across some helpful videos from a nice UK DPE Mike Taulty http://www.microsoft.com/uk/msdn/screencasts/screencast/289/LINQ-to-XML-Streaming-In-Large-Documents.aspx. Which show you how you can combine LINQ and the XmlReader to get a semi streaming approach. I took what he did and implemented it in SSIS. What I found odd was that when I ran it I got different numbers between using the streamed and non streamed versions. This method is what gives us streaming, what it does is return a enumerable list of elements, because of the way that LINQ works this results in the data being streamed in. static IEnumerable<XElement> StreamReader(String filename, string elementName) { using (XmlReader xr = XmlReader.Create(filename)) { xr.MoveToContent(); while (xr.Read()) //Reads the first element { while (xr.NodeType == XmlNodeType.Element && xr.Name == elementName) { XElement node = (XElement)XElement.ReadFrom(xr); yield return node; } } xr.Close(); } } This code is specifically designed to return a list of the elements with a specific name. The first Read reads the root element and then the inner while loop checks to see if the current element is the type we want. If not we do the xr.Read() again until we find the element type we want. We then use the neat function XElement.ReadFrom to read an element and all its sub elements into an XElement. This is what is returned and can be consumed by the LINQ statement. Essentially once one element has been read we need to check if we are still on the same element type and name (the inner loop) This was Mikes mistake, if we called .Read again we would advance the XmlReader beyond the start of the Element and so the ReadFrom method wouldn't work. So with the code above you can use what ever LINQ statement you like to flatten your XML into the rowsets you want. You could even have multiple outputs and generate your own surrogate keys.

Using a "white list" for extracting terms for Text Mining

In Part 1 of my post on "Generating cluster names from a document clustering model" (part 1, part 2, part 3), I showed how to build a clustering model from text documents using Oracle Data Miner, which automates preparing data for text mining. In this process we specified a custom stoplist and lexer and relied on Oracle Text to identify important terms. However, there is an alternative approach, the white list, which uses a thesaurus object with the Oracle Text CTXRULE index to allow you to specify the important terms. INTRODUCTIONA stoplist is used to exclude, i.e., black list, specific words in your documents from being indexed. For example, words like a, if, and, or, and but normally add no value when text mining. Other words can also be excluded if they do not help to differentiate documents, e.g., the word Oracle is ubiquitous in the Oracle product literature. One problem with stoplists is determining which words to specify. This usually requires inspecting the terms that are extracted, manually identifying which ones you don't want, and then re-indexing the documents to determine if you missed any. Since a corpus of documents could contain thousands of words, this could be a tedious exercise. Moreover, since every word is considered as an individual token, a term excluded in one context may be needed to help identify a term in another context. For example, in our Oracle product literature example, the words "Oracle Data Mining" taken individually are not particular helpful. The term "Oracle" may be found in nearly all documents, as with the term "Data." The term "Mining" is more unique, but could also refer to the Mining industry. If we exclude "Oracle" and "Data" by specifying them in the stoplist, we lose valuable information. But it we include them, they may introduce too much noise. Still, when you have a broad vocabulary or don't have a list of specific terms of interest, you rely on the text engine to identify important terms, often by computing the term frequency - inverse document frequency metric. (This is effectively a weight associated with each term indicating its relative importance in a document within a collection of documents. We'll revisit this later.) The results using this technique is often quite valuable. As noted above, an alternative to the subtractive nature of the stoplist is to specify a white list, or a list of terms--perhaps multi-word--that we want to extract and use for data mining. The obvious downside to this approach is the need to specify the set of terms of interest. However, this may not be as daunting a task as it seems. For example, in a given domain (Oracle product literature), there is often a recognized glossary, or a list of keywords and phrases (Oracle product names, industry names, product categories, etc.). Being able to identify multi-word terms, e.g., "Oracle Data Mining" or "Customer Relationship Management" as a single token can greatly increase the quality of the data mining results. The remainder of this post and subsequent posts will focus on how to produce a dataset that contains white list terms, suitable for mining. CREATING A WHITE LIST We'll leverage the thesaurus capability of Oracle Text. Using a thesaurus, we create a set of rules that are in effect our mapping from single and multi-word terms to the tokens used to represent those terms. For example, "Oracle Data Mining" becomes "ORACLEDATAMINING." First, we'll create and populate a mapping table called my_term_token_map. All text has been converted to upper case and values in the TERM column are intended to be mapped to the token in the TOKEN column. A cursor is defined over my_term_token_map. As we iterate over the rows, we insert a synonym relationship 'SYN' into the thesaurus. We also insert into the table my_thesaurus_rules the main term, and the corresponding query string, which specifies synonyms for the token in the thesaurus. We'll then compute the tf-idf weights for each of the terms and create a nested table suitable for mining.

Oracle recently announced Oracle Enterprise Manager Plug-in for Amazon Web Services (AWS) allows you to achieve that goal. The on-premise Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM12c) acts as a single tool to get a comprehensive view of your public AWS resources as well as your private cloud resources. By deploying the plug-in within your Cloud Control environment, you gain the following management features: Monitor EBS, EC2 and RDS instances on Amazon Web Services Gather performance metrics and configuration details for AWS instances Raise alerts and violations based on thresholds set on monitoring Generate reports based on the gathered data Users of this Plug-in can leverage the rich Enterprise Manager features such as system promotion, incident generation based on thresholds, integration with 3rd party ticketing applications etc. AWS Monitoring via this Plug-in is enabled via Amazon CloudWatch API and the users of this Plug-in are responsible for supplying credentials for accessing AWS and the CloudWatch API. This Plug-in can only be deployed on an EM12C R2 platform and agent version should be at minimum 12c R2.Here is a pictorial view of the overall architecture: Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Here are a few key features: Rich and exhaustive list of metrics. Discovery and Monitoring AWS instances can be added to EM12C either via the EM12c User Interface (UI) or the EM12c Command Line Interface ( EMCLI) by providing the AWS credentials (Secret Key and Access Key Id) as well as resource specific properties as target properties. TOTD #166 explained how to use MongoDB in your Java EE 6 applications. The code in that tip used the APIs exposed by the MongoDB Java driver and so requires you to learn a new API. However if you are building Java EE 6 applications then you are already familiar with Java Persistence API (JPA). Eclipse Link 2.4, scheduled to release as part of Eclipse Juno, provides support for NoSQL databases by mapping a JPA entity to a document. How to have other divs with a flash liquid layout that fits to the page?

Basically the majority of my content is flash based. I designed it using Flash Builder (Flex) and Its in a liquid layout, (everything is in percents) and if im JUST embedding the flash content it scales to the page fine, and i have the flash content set to have a padding of 50 px. I put a header div in fine with no problems, but I have 2 problems, the first being the footer div seems to cover up the buttom of the flash content in IE, but it looks just fine in chrome. How can I solve this? I'm using the stock embed code that Flex provides, I tried to edit the css style for the div which I think is #flashContent and give it a min width and min height but it didnt seem to work, actually anything I did to #flashContent didn't seem to do anything, maybe its not the div i need to be adding that attribute to... And my other problem is I dont even know where to start when it comes to placing a div thats 280width by 600height colum to the right side of the flash content. If i could specify a size for the flash content, and the float it left, and float the colum right, and clear it with the container div id be just fine....But remember the flash content is set to 100% Scale (well techically 100%x80% because it looked better that way). Does anyone know how I can start to deal with creating a more complex scaleable flash layouts that includes other divs? ALL WELL MAINTAINING IE SUPPORT? IE is ruining my life.
