• Rails 2.3.5: How does one add an error when it doesn't make sense to put it in a validation?

  I recently was trying to add errors.add_to_base code in the middle of some model logic and was wondering why it wasn't showing up in my view that was iterating over all errors. I then ran across this e-mail which explains why: http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk/browse_thread/thread/e045ec1dead1ff06?pli=1 The question is then, how does one add errors with add_to_base if it doesn't make sense to put them into a validate method? I have some complex logic. The model needs to talk to a has_many relationship which has its own relationships that go through a myriad of conditionals to figure out if a request makes sense. It's nothing that can be tied to a validate method easily. How does one add errors then accordingly?

• problem using keil uvision 3

  I am trying to compile a C code using Keil uvision 3. The entire code gets compiled only if I use large memory model by choosing option xdata for target. To use this model I have to use external data RAM which is not possible for me due to some reasons. So I decided to go with pdata option. Can anybody please help me with the exact steps to be carried out for using pdata? I am using 89V51RD2. I am much confused with the options like BL51 MISC, BL51 Locate etc.

• MVC Display Template for Generic Type

  I am trying to use the model ListModel as a generic list model. I would like to enter on the page @Html.DisplayForModel() However the MVC is not correctly finding the templated file "ListModel.cshtml". It must work differently for generic models. What should I name the templated file in order for it to correctly be located? public class ListModel<T> { public IEnumerable<T> Models {get;set;} public string NextPage {get;set;} } I would expect it to look for "Shared/DisplayTemplates/ListModel.ascx" but it doesn't. Does anyone know?

• Why does the check for an interface fail?

  I have a class that implements an interface. In another area of the code I check if that class instance contains that interface, but it doesn't work. The check to see if the class contains the interface always fails (false) when it should be true. Below is a simple representation of what I am trying to accomplish. • @ExceptionHandler doesn't handle the thrown exceptions

  Hello, I have a method in my controller which will handle the exceptions thrown by the application. So I have a method like this one. @Controller public class ExceptionController { @RequestMapping(value="/error") @ExceptionHandler(value={Exception.class, NullPointerException.class}) public String showError(Exception e, Model model){ return "tiles:error"; } } And to try I if it works I throw a NullPointerException in another method in other method controller: boolean a = true; if(a){ throw new NullPointerException(); } After the exception is thrown it is printed in the JSP, but it doesn't go throw my showError() method (I've set a breakpoint there and it never enters). showError() method will catch the exception and will show different error pages depending on the exception type (though now it always shows the same error page). If I go to the url /error it shows the error page so the showError() method is OK. I'm using Spring 3. What can be the problem? Thanks.

• Caching Models in rails

  I have a rails application, with a model that is a kind of repository. The records stored in the DB for that model are (almost) never changed, but are read all the time. Also there is not a lot of them. I would like to store these records in cache, in a generic way. I would like to do something like acts_as_cached, but here are the issue I have: I can not find a decent documentation for acts as cached (neither can I find it's repository) I don't want to use memcached, but something simpler (static variable, or something like that). Do you have any idea of what gems I could use to do that ? Thanks

  I Am trying to connect to a method in my controller, with a button. I can connect though this link: @Html.ActionLink("Print", "Print", new { id = Model.SalesContractId}) But i Don't want a link, i want my button on my dialog to do it.   I'm getting some trouble binding a date from QueryString : I have the following model public class QueryParms { public DateTime Date { get; set; } } And the following controller action : public ActionResult Search( QueryParms query ); I have a form, with a field where I can type my date. If the form is FormMethod.Post, everything is fine, my date is correctly bound to my model. If the form is FormMethod.Get, it is not working anymore. The date is left to the default value (01/01/0001) I think it is a culture issue : When i look into the value provider, the FormValueProvider has a culture property set for my date : {fr-FR}. The QueryStringValueProvider doesn't have the culture property set. Is there a way to set this property ?

• Extending appengine's db.Property with caching

  I'm looking to implement a property class for appengine, very similar to the existing db.ReferenceProperty. I am implementing my own version because I want some other default return values. My question is, how do I make the property remember its returned value, so that the datastore query is only performed the first time the property is fetched? What I had is below, and it does not work. I read that the Property classes do not belong to the instances, but to the model definition, so I guess that the return value is not cached for each instance, but overwritten on the model every time. • Rails: How to have dynamic association

  I'll use an example to explain what behaviour I would like to achieve. If you had a project management app and you added a task, but not all the contributors are users of the app. So when you adding contributors to the task you can enter a user name or email address. Here is the part that I'm finding a little tricky. The task model has many contributors which are linked through the user model, but from this point on I want to achieve 2 things. Store the non members email(this would obviously be quite simple) If that email address was to create an account it would then link that user to the task and remove the temporally saved email. This way, when that user creates an account all the related tasks will already be associated with their email. Is this something that i could achieve with a polymorphic association? or is there something else I should be looking at?

• DB fields not showing up in association custom queries?

  I have a notification list that the user can select different show options for different kinds of notifications along with how many results are returned. I'm keeping them in the user model because I want the custom sort to stay with the user between sessions. Here is the association in my user model: has_many :notifications, :class_name => "Notification", :foreign_key => "user_id", :conditions => ["won = ? and lost = ? and paid = ?", self.prefs_won, self.prefs_lost, self.prefs_paid], :limit => self.prefs_results.to_s But when I use the above code, Rails throws me an "unknown method" error for self.prefs_won. It is definitely a field in my database and set as a boolean value, but Rails can't find it... what's the problem?

I have an Audio model which has a mp3 field as follows: class Audio < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :mp3, :storage => :s3, :s3_credentials => S3_CREDENTIALS, :bucket => S3_CREDENTIALS[:bucket], :path => ":rails_root/public/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename", :url => "/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename" I am calling audio.mp3.url from a controller, and it returns http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s//original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 instead of http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s/000/000/004/original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 (which works) Why is it missing the '000/000/004' part of the route? The same model is generating the right URL when used in a view. Any help? I am using paperclip 3.2.0 and Rails 3.1.8. Any help?

• Can I Use EF Across Multiple DBs in One SQLServer Instance?

  Hello, I have been searching the blogs and articles but I have not found much support for this scenario. I have been poking around EF and realized that I could create views that contained data from multiple databases and then build the EF object model off of those views. Although it works I am not sure about the usual issues of performance, scalability, maintainability. The way I am achieving the connection between databases is by creating associations in the EF model. Does anyone have any information about this type of implementation?   Hi, I have some code where the model contains some classes like (vb.net pseudocode, but could be any OO language): Enum AttributeType Boolean Date String End Enum MustInherit Class Attibute Must Override Function Type As AttributeType End Class Class BooleanAttribute: Attribute Function Type As AttributeType Return AttributeType.Boolean End Function End Class And the view contains some code like: Select Case AttributeType Case Boolean //Display checkbox control Case Date //Display date picker control Case String //Display textbox control End Select I don't really like the code in the view, for the hopefully obvious reasons (what happens when I get a new attribute type etc). My question is, how should I replace it? I could easily add a method to the concrete classes, but that pollutes the model with UI stuff so that's a horrible idea. I could move the select into a factory, but that seems to be just hiding the problem. Can anybody advise a better approach?

  Hello everybody, I am working with Symfony 1.4 and Doctrine. I have a model A with a email field. The form of A, display an input in which the user should insert the email correctly. But as everybody know sometiemes they don't do it. To fix this i have insert an extra field in the model (and in the form), called *repeat_email* to prevent the misspellings. Then, in the validation process, after validates all the fields, i use a global validator to compare the data of the two fields. This works, but i don't want to have the email stored two times in the database (i don't want the *repeat_email*). Is there any mechanism to use it in the validation process, but not to store it in the database? Thanks,

  I have to display some data in a treeview. The "real" data model is huge and I cannot copy all the stuff in a TreeStore, so I guess I should use a GenericTreeModel to act like a virtual treeview. Btw the first column is the classic icon+text style and I think I should declare a column with a CellRendererPixbuf (faq sample), but I'm not sure what the model methods on_get_n_columns() and on_get_value() should return. It's both a Pixbuf and a string value for the same column. Any help will be appreciated.

  In section 4.3 of Intel 64® and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manual. Volume 1: Basic Architecture, it says: A near pointer is a 32-bit offset ... within a segment. Near pointers are used for all memory references in a flat memory model or for references in a segmented model where the identity of the segment being accessed is implied. This leads me to wondering: how is the implied segment register determined? I know that (%eip) and displaced (%eip) (e.g. -4(%eip)) addresses use %cs by default, and that (%esp) and displaced (%esp) addresses use %ss, but what about (%eax), (%edx), (%edi), (%ebp) etc., and can the implicit segment register depend also on the instruction that the memory address operand appears in?

• Codeigniter: How to handle direct link to controller/function/param?

  I have a simple controller function which deletes a DB entry (it uses a model function to do so). I have a link to this in one of my views (e.g. http://www.example.com/item/delete/3) and I’m using jQuery to display a confirm dialog to make sure the user really wants to delete it. All fine. However if you just enter that URL in your browser the item is deleted without warning. Is there a way to handle this either in the way I code the controller function or in the model?
