  In SQL Server, I have two tables TableA and TableB, based on these I need to generate a report which is kind of very complex and after doing some research I come to a conclusion that I have to go with SQL Pivot table but I dont have any idea about the SQL Pivot feature so, can anyone please help me on this. • Storing SQL in MySQL: Insert as Text?

  Hey all, Working in a team environment, each one of us has put together our own list of SQL statements that we use to help with our day to day job functions. As the case often is, there may be some redundancy with this, and we are often in need of each other's statements. To circumvent this, I'm looking to put together a small app that can be used to store and search for these SQL statements. To begin with, I'm keeping it basic, just storing and searching the statements. This may build out to be the actual execution at some point in the future, but I'm not concerning myself with this at the time. This will be built with PHP and MySQL - Should I store the SQL as text, or is there something that I need to be concerned with?

• How can I uninstall a clustered SQL instance if the cluster has been destroyed?

  First time going through this scenario, and apparently I did it very wrong. On the DB servers I deleted the cluster group that held SQL and Reporting Services. I then destroyed the cluster. Then I tried to uninstall SQL. No dice. SQL still thinks its part of the non-existant cluster and will not let me uninstall it. I went into the Maintenance menu of the SQL setup and tried to Remove Node...nope. Unless I find a way out of this I will have to rebuild the OS if I can't get SQL off the box.

  Hi, we have a legacy application which uses a access.mdb with hundreds of ODBC-connected tables on a sql-server. the access.mdb contains nothing else than these odbc-connections. Now we consider to use a virtual sql-servername for these odbc connections and resolve it in the local hosts-file with the ip-address of the real sql-server. Like this we can easy switch between a test-sql-database server and the the server for production in changing one single entry in the hosts. EVERYTHING works fine and now comes the question: Could it be that this is more performant because there is one single point on resolving the sql-server (name or ip-address)? Is there something like a network-cache / DNS-Cache? peace Ice

• Modifying AD Schema permissions from the command line

  Recently while making some changes for a client, I accidently dug myself into a pretty deep hole.  I was trying to explicitly deny a certain user from reading a few group policies including the Default Domain Policy.  When I went in to make the change I accidently denied Authenticated Users rather than the AD user object.  This of course made the GPO inaccessible to all users including any with domain admin rights.  The policy could no longer be modified in the GPMC and worse, changes could not be made through ADSIedit.   The errors I was getting from inside ADSIedit when trying to edit the container looked like this This object has one or more property sheets currently open. Invalid path to object The only solution was to strip Authenticated Users from the container ACL completely in the schema, then re-add it back with the default read and apply rights.  To perform this action, I used a command I had never used before:  DSALCS.exe  It’s part of the DSMOD group of tools.  Since this command interacts with the actual schema, you have to know the full LDAP container or object name.  In this case the GUID of the Default Domain Policy: {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}   The actual commands I ran looked like this:   To display the current ACL of the container: c:\>dsacls “cn={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},cn=Policies,cn=System, dc=domain,dc=com” /A To strip Authenticated Users from the ACL of the container: c:\>dsacls “cn={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},cn=Policies,cn=System, dc=domain,dc=com” /R “NT Authority\Authenticated Users”   For full reference of the DSACLS.EXE command visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281146 Once the Authenticated Users was cleared from the ACL, I was able to use Group Policy Management Console to reassign the default permissions.

• Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler: What Tables Aren’t In At Least One SubView?

  Organizing your data model makes the information easier to consume. One of the organizational tools provided by Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler is the ‘SubView.’ In a nutshell, a SubView is a subset of your model. The Challenge: I’ve just created a model which represents my entire ____________ application. We’ll call it ‘residential lending.’ Instead of having all 100+ tables in a single model diagram, I want to break out the tables by module, e.g. appraisals, credit reports, work histories, customers, etc. I’ve spent several hours breaking out the tables to one or more SubViews, but I think i may have missed a few. Is there an easy way to see what tables aren’t in at least ONE subview? The Answer Yes, mostly. The mostly comes about from the way I’m going to accomplish this task. It involves querying the SQL Developer Data Modeler Reporting Schema. So if you don’t have the Reporting Schema setup, you’ll need to do so. Got it? Good, let’s proceed. Before you start querying your Reporting Schema, you might need a data model for the actual reporting schema…meta-meta data! You could reverse engineer the data modeler reporting schema to a new data model, or you could just reference the PDFs in \datamodeler\reports\Reporting Schema diagrams directory. Here’s a hint, it’s THIS one The Query Well, it’s actually going to be at least 2 queries. We need to get a list of distinct designs stored in your repository. For giggles, I’m going to get a listing including each version of the model. So I can query based on design and version, or in this case, timestamp of when it was added to the repository. We’ll get that from the DMRS_DESIGNS table: SELECT DISTINCT design_name, design_ovid, date_published FROM DMRS_designs Then I’m going to feed the design_ovid, down to a subquery for my child report. select name, count(distinct diagram_id) from DMRS_DIAGRAM_ELEMENTS where design_ovid = :dESIGN_OVID and type = 'Table' group by name having count(distinct diagram_id) < 2 order by count(distinct diagram_id) desc Each diagram element has an entry in this table, so I need to filter on type=’Table.’ Each design has AT LEAST one diagram, the master diagram. So any relational table in this table, only having one listing means it’s not in any SubViews. If you have overloaded object names, which is VERY possible, you’ll want to do the report off of ‘OBJECT_ID’, but then you’ll need to correlate that to the NAME, as I doubt you’re so intimate with your designs that you recognize the GUIDs So I’m going to cheat and just stick with names, but I think you get the gist. My Model Of my almost 90 tables, how many of those have I not added to at least one SubView? Now let’s run my report! Voila! My ‘BEER2′ table isn’t in any SubView! It says ’1′ because the main model diagram counts as a view. So if the count came back as ’2′, that would mean the table was in the main model diagram and in 1 SubView diagram. And I know what you’re thinking, what kind of residential lending program would have a table called ‘BEER2?’ Let’s just say, that my business model has some kinks to work out!

• ASP 3.0 Folder/File Permissions Settings (ASP Classic)

  Dear Stack Exchange, Hi, I have built a form input page in HTML that has an action to post to an ASP handler/processor .asp file. The form handler/processor .asp file contains only <% Insert VBScript Here % and no HTML output whatsoever. The .asp file was never intended to be a "web viewable" .asp file like an .asp home page file or html file would. It's supposed to be for my eyes only- not the public's however it does need to take info posted by the public and do something with it on it's end. I have used VBScript/ASP3.0 to build the form handler/processor file and would like to know how to keep someone from viewing the actual VBScript in the handler/processor .asp file. I am aware of obfuscation but I would like to know how to keep prying eyes from even being able to take a look at the obfuscated code in the handler/processor file. I realize that the server executes the .asp file first before outputting anything to the browser so I guess that my main concern is mostly that someone may could "download" the form handler/processor .asp file, then view it's contents on their machine. Assuming the form handler .asp file is where it is, behind the root, and is on a windows server (no htaccess approach) how could one protect it so that it could never be viewed or simply pulled down via anonymous ftp or something like that? Is there something like "script only" permissions that the system administrator could set up for a particular folder? Remember, with shared hosting I can't go above the root. If so, would the form still be able to post? How would any of you guys go about protecting the asp file in addition to obfuscation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, ASP Pee-Wee

• Insufficient permissions within Eclipse when installed via synaptic in Ubuntu 12.04

  I installed Eclipse via the Synaptic Package Manager on Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop (more details on footer). However, from within Eclipse, I lack sufficient permissions to perform upgrades on my package and add-ons. I'm a recovering Windows user, and while I have a couple of years Ubuntu experience, I am unfamiliar with the command-line and mainly interact through the packaged GUI. Specifically, I am trying to install the upgrade for Eclipse CVS Clientorg.eclipse.cvs.feature.group1.3.100.v20110520-0800-7B78FHl9VF7BD7KBM4GP9C I am tracking the varying installation advice on a similar question eclipse install: Gaurav Butola Basically, the most current upgrades are available directly from eclipse?... But at some point I remember reading that the latest version of eclipse had been designed for the previous LTS of Ubuntu - I don't know if that is still true. I have read about the vulnerabilities of Java 6, and so I have gone with Open Java 7 openjdk-amd64 (if that has any relevance to which Eclipse package and installation method I choose). But I'm not crazy about the idea of creating a gksudo link in the sidebar launcher. I don't know enough about chown to use it - if that's even appropriate (I don't want stray java escaping from Eclipse and connecting to SkyNet). Another possible solution that I foresee is modifying my user's group memberships/privileges on the file system as a whole. The only other information that I think might be relevant is that I notice that Synaptic installed all of the files into /usr/ instead of /opt/ like I have seen recommended. So should I be changing ownership, reinstalling using a non-Synaptic method, or what? Any advice is greatly appreciated.   I'm trying to configure my Windows 2008 servers so that my developers can view their status without needing to log on to the box or be an admin. Unfortunately, the permissions set in Windows 2008 for remote non-admin users don't include the ability to enumerate or otherwise query services. This causes anything that contacts the SCM on the far end to fail (Win32_Service, sc.exe, services.msc etc). How do I set up permissions so that they can at least list the services and see if they are running?

I then decided to chmod 777 all the directories and try again but it still fails. Looking at the directories afterwards it seems that the new directories being created are not being created 777. By changing them I can get at least one step further before the error appears again. My question is does anyone know how to get round this? I am thinking that the new directories being created will require sudo privileges to have mv and create actions carried out, hence the permission denied errors. Can this be configured in Joomla? Or is there a way to specify that new directories created in /var/www/[site name] take 777 by default? any help greatly appreciated! EDIT: P.S. if anyone could give me a clue as to how the insert code feature works as well that would be great! Might make this post a bit more readable! EDIT2: Well I have had a bash at changing the permissions and ownership. sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/trbcp I then tried changing the whole /var directory (insecure I know but this is a test and dev server for me to find my feet on) to 777 and still getting permission errors. It seems to be error opening stream? Not a php guy so not sure what that is but could it be that permissions to run php script need to change? any thoughts greatly appreciated.

  Okay. I installed apache2 and php on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine. I copied the phpmyadmin files to /var/www/phpmyadmin so that the hierarchy looks like this: -var (755) -www (144) -phpmyadmin (644) -index.php... etc. (644) -index.html (644) The numbers in brackets are the permissions. What permissions should the phpmyadmin folder have? What am I doing wrong?

  I have a few Window XP clients that are part of a domain, when trying to set the permissions on the security tab and pressing location to search the AD for users it only presents the local machine... So I follow this path Right click folder Properties Security Add in the locations field where I would normally see the windows domain, I am only seeing the local machine name??? So only users that have a local account can be added to the folders permissions... Any tips would be appreciated

• Root SSH/SFTP Always 777

  I have an Ubuntu serve that I'm connecting to via SFTP (and also an SSHFS mount locally). When I move a file to the server via the mount I need it to have permissions set to 777. I've added umask 000 to the .bashrc file at the advice of a friend and it doesn't appear to be working. Basically I'm working completely in a restricted folder and need the root to always leave the permissions open - wether I'm SSH'ed in or moving files to the server.

The problem I am facing is that when I set up a new Gitorious project and limit read access permissions to specific users, the repositories inside the project are not visible any more. • Reporting Services SQL Server 2005 File Share Error

  Hi, I have a problem with Reporting Services, on an XP box, trying to save subscription reports onto a Windows 7 box over the network. No matter the permissions or accounts used by reporting services it always comes back with "A logon error occurred when attempting to access the file share. The user account or password is not valid." Since this is saving reports over the network and both admin accounts and open network/file permissions to everyone were both tried so I'm left wondering if this is an issue with Reporting Services 2005 has troubles with Windows 7 over the network. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

• Write data to SQL Server directly from BizTalk or use external service?

  An external source will be sending us XML data that BizTalk will pick up and transform into an internal schema. We need this data to be loaded into a SQL Server database as we're going to expose some of the data to our web front-end via a custom WCF service. The question is: what is the recommended approach for doing something like this? Options we're considering are having BizTalk write to the database directly or having BizTalk call a custom WCF service which would handle the save operation. Another briefly considered idea was having BizTalk write to an MSMQ and have a custom service pull from there and store it in the database. What are some of the guidelines or questions that should be asked in assessing these options? There are concerns related to overhead from calling the extra service, duplication of efforts if the schema is modified in the future (which it will be to some extent), and simply the best way to design within a service-oriented architecture that we're struggling with.

  I really do not want to install Linux at the moment, I would have to borrow a USB key, move files, format it, flash it, format it again, move files back, give it back... What would you recommend that is lightweight, easily and cleanly uninstallable afterwards (will install Linux when I get a new DVD-ROM, which will be in ~2 weeks), that also supports PHP and SQL? To be precise, I want to install a Wordpress blog, a few plugins, etc, and develop a theme. If there is no such thing for Windows (7, x64 if that matters), let me know too, I will borrow the USB key then (even though it's a pain).

• "Never do in code what you can get the SQL server to do well for you" - Is this a recipe for a bad design?

  It's an idea I've heard repeated in a handful of places. Some more or less acknowledging that once trying to solve a problem purely in SQL exceeds a certain level of complexity you should indeed be handling it in code. The logic behind the idea is that for the large majority of cases, the database engine will do a better job at finding the most efficient way of completing your task than you could in code. Especially when it comes to things like making the results conditional on operations performed on the data. Arguably with modern engines effectively JIT'ing + caching the compiled version of your query it'd make sense on the surface. The question is whether or not leveraging your database engine in this way is inherently bad design practice (and why). The lines become blurred further when all the logic exists inside the database and you're just hitting it via an ORM.

• Installed SQL Server 2008 and now TFS is broken.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Technical information (for administrator): TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service. So I head on over to my event viewer on the server. Under Application, I see one warning and two errors.   I have a development server with 3 instances: Default, A and B. It is a physical server, non clustered. Whenever the syspolicy_purge_history job runs at 2 am, I get failed login alerts. Looking at the job steps, all are successfully completed. It appears that some point during the step "Erase Phantom System Health Records" is when the failed logins occur. syspolicy_purge_history on instance B works OK. syspolicy_purge_history on the Default instance seems to want to connect to instance B, resulting in: Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-B'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . No errors are reported by Powershell. syspolicy_purge_history on the A instance seems to want to connect to the Default instance resulting in Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-Default'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . In the Logshipping folder, there is one file UK_20100324090001.trn dated on the 2009-3-24. The next most recent .trn file is the UK_20100374090001.trn which is the file that was applied during the restore. Why is there an older trn file seemingly on it's own? How can I fix this problem? It'll be a real pain to restart the entire logshipping process. x_x
