• Can't Create New folder in my video folder

  My OS is windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. My video folder location is C:\Users\User\Documents\Downloads\Video. I Can't create folder in the Video folder or see the files i saved. But I can see the files in the root location of the folder i.e by going to the folder from My Computer. I can create and find files when I go to the folder My Computer>C>Users>User>Documents>Downloads>Video. This is an unusual problem I have never seen. Even being a system Administrator I can't able to fix the problem. Please help me out. Thanks in advance

• ASP.NET website deployment [on hold]

  I am getting my hands wet with ASP and I have been following the tutorials. I deployed the site and in Azure and it worked great. Today I started actually designing the site. And when I published, it looks as if it doesn't read any of the files I just updated, added, and modified. It works on my localhost, but not in the Azure. I thought when you publish, everything goes up, including the new files. I don't have enough reputation to add a picture so, you'll forgive me. SO, basically, how do I get my entire site uploaded? • Can I grant permissions on files in windows 7 using a security identifier from another machine

  I have an external hard drive, and I wish to grant permissions on some files to users from 2 different computers without having to hook it up to the 2 different computers. I know the SID of the user on the other computer, I'd like to know if and how I can grant permissions to files using the SID. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bits, and "The Other" computer Win 7 Home Premium 64 bits, they are not in a domain, but separate computers on a home network (not even same homegroup). • Script or Utility to convert .nab to .csv without importing double entries in Outlook.

  Currently our environment is migrating from Groupwise 7 to Outlook 2003 and we have multiple users with mission critical outside contacts in their frequent contacts that will have to be imported in Outlook. Currently our only solution is to export GW contacts to a .nab, import to excel to scrub out the contacts in our own domain (to avoid double entry) and convert to .csv. This current solution will require a lot of man hours for hand holding because most of our users are not technically savvy AT ALL and are frankly too busy to do this themselves. Anyone know of any kind of tool or script to assist with this?

  Need Help on the following questions. When a users login (on a computer in the network) is validated against AD what is/are the authentication method used? When a users login is validated in Windows NT environment (not AD) what is/are the authentication method used? If all user's account is on AD, is it possible to change the authentication mechanism only (or protocols) from AD to NT and vice versa (if possible)? If part/whole of question 3 is valid, where should one look to change these authentication methods ? What is the difference between AD and Windows-NT authentication ? • What equipment do real ISP's use?

  In a dormitory of 550 residents, people often mistakenly set up DHCP servers for the whole network by plugging in their private Wi-Fi routers wrongly. Also recently, someone mistakenly configured their PC to a static IP being the same as that of the default gateway. We use cheap 3Com switches at the moment. I know that Cisco switches support DHCP snooping to solve the DHCP problem, but that still does not solve the default gateway IP takeover problem. What sort of switch equipment do real ISP's use so their customers cannot break the network for the other customers? What we ended up doing In case anyone are courious, we ended up doing seperate VLANs for each user. And as a matter of fact, not just the 550 users, but for 2500 users (11 dorms). There was no significant load on the router server as I feared in one of the comments below. Even at 800Mpbs.

• OS X Snow Leopard, change file permissions on copy

  I work with OS X, Snow Leopard and need to allow users to make copies of files (templates) located in a read-only repository for subsequent editing. The repository is located on a separate physical drive mounted to the OS X boot volume. As this is a shared computer in a school environment, all users access the machine via a single login ("user_local"). Whether using POSIX permissions or ACLs, the use case requires the file permissions to change from "read" to "read write" as they get copied to the "user_local" home directory. Googling around has not yielded anything that would indicate that this is possible via the Snow Leopard permission system. Question 1: Is this in fact possible via the permission system? If so, how? Question 2: If not possible, how would one go about solving this problem? I imagine this to be a fairly common use case so there must be a workable solution for it out there. Thanks.

  I have a problem with NTLM single-sign-on with IE8. We've got multiple domain controllers and users from multiple domains that we try to authenticate to a web application via NTLMv1 passthru. Somehow IE fails to send the user's domain in the NTLM Type 1 message. This has the effect that the webapp can not match users properly to their domain controllers, resulting in failed logon attempts, because a user from domain X tries to authenticate to domain controller Y. This problem does not occur with Firefox, as it always sends the correct domain header. So: how do I get IE to send the domain in the NTLM header?

• how to find the clientname of an remote desktop session?

  We have servers on which we run tests and all users connect using the same credentials. The server allows 2 connections. What happens often is that one user is already active and the other two users keep hijacking the remaining session. Using query session, I can find out what are the active connections. But it does not list the client machine from where the session originates, which taskmanager displays. How do I get this information from a remote machine? I prefer a command line solution. • Removing emails from all mailboxes with certain text in subject

  So, we had an errant program kick off about 15,000 emails to our users. I have our spam filters now blocking these on the edge until that gets resolved, but now I would like to clean our our users' mailboxes for them. Is there anyway with Exchange 2007 to remove all emails with certain text in the subject line? It would need to be a partial match because the subject changes slightly for each email. I am trying to do this with Forefront's manual scan job + content filter, but it does not seem to like partial matches on the subject.

  Moooooooo     For a while now we’ve been using Apple’s enterprise device app distribution mechanism.   This allows you to have a user, click on a URL on their iOS device and it pulls down a new version of an enterprise app. of of our servers. Its really nice,  have a look at - http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#featuredarticles/FA_Wireless_Enterprise_App_Distribution/Introduction/Introduction.html   I’ve embedded this, into a check on application launch, that a web-service is called to detect a newer version of the software is available.  It then calls the URL to the App and a new version is deployed. You can alert users that a new App update is available by sending them a push notification.  See screenshot at the top. We send our push notifications out to users,  using a simple C# service.    The fun part is this.   You can instruct the push notification to play a sound (embedded in the app already). So our push notification’s play a random farmyard noise, i.e from a selection of - cow.wav dogbrk.wav duck.wav goose.wav horse.wav lamb.wav monkey.wav – left field I know rooster.wav Imagine my amusement being able to periodically send out an update and watch our office (of about 60 people) turn into farm for a few seconds. I’ve messed up a few times, with people being interrupted on customer conference calls,  but people seem good humoured about it. (so far) Simple(ish) pleasures…

• Multiple servers acting like a single one with all the hardware?

  Hello, by now I have 10 servers for hpc, power computing oriented. My users need to launch several processes using qmake. The users are used to work with ubuntu 9.10, and the software from the repositories is switable for them. I've deployed ubuntu 9.10 to all 10 servers (pxe rocks). By now we work with parallel-ssh and cluster-ssh, which allows as to launch the same process to all servers. With this tools this tools the servers remain as independent but with the same software and the same launched command. Now we would like to go to next step and see all the servers as a single one with all the resources from the other 9 as if was its resources. The difference would be substantial in time to process and also time to design the command to launch. Any advice on wich software to use will be very useful? Thanks

• Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Business Continuity During Snowstorm!

  Capgemini, one of the world's largest management consulting, outsourcing and professional services companies, is an Oracle Secure Global Desktop customer and uses it to provide secure, remote access to 1) corporate applications centralized in the datacenter and 2) desktops hosted on Oracle VDI. Earlier this month, one of Capgemini's government customers in Holland were advised to avoid traveling to work, due to a heavy snowstorm. This resulted in a lot of employees working from home. Thankfully due to their deployment of the Oracle Secure Global Desktop gateway, employees were able to easily access their corporate applications and desktops from home and anywhere outside of their office. Capgemini reports that during the days of the snowstorm, a record number of users leveraged Oracle Secure Global Desktop (servers and gateway). Despite this record usage, Oracle Secure Global Desktop remained perfectly stable and allowed users to seamlessly access their applications and desktops. • Has anyone managed to install Office Webapps on SharePoint 2010, on Windows 7 ?

  I've installed SharePoint 2010 as a development environment on my Windows 7 x64 environment (notes here) and would like to install Office Web Apps onto it also. However, when trying to install (following this link), I get an error saying that Web roles aren't installed. The error message in the log file is: Start C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML Error: Failed to start process for file: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe arguments: -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML ErrorCode: 2(0x2). Which is effectively saying that ServerManagerCmd is not found. It isn't on my machine as it is deprecated and replaced by Powershell functions, but is on Server 2008 R2. I've tried copying that over and it just fails to run. Is there a way to get Office WebApps installed on Win7 ? Is there a way to get a working version of ServerManagerCmd.exe on a Windows 7 x64 environment ? Many thanks

• Hell: NTFS "Restore previous versions"...

  The hell I have experienced these last 24h: Windows 7 installation hosed after bluetooth driver install. Attempting to recover using restore points via "Repair" on the bootable Win7 installation CD. Attempting to go back one day in the restore points. No joy. Attempting to go back two days in the restore points. No joy. Attempting to go back one week in the restore points. Stil no joy. Windows won't boot. Apparently something is REALLY hosed. And then it hits me - PANIC - the restore points somehow reverted DATA files to their older versions! Word, Powerpoint, SPSS, etc document versions are all one week old now. Using the "freshest" restore point. Failed to restore yesterday's restore point!!! I am stuck at old versions of the data!!! Booting KNOPPIX, mounting NTFS partition as read-only under KNOPPIX. Checking. Nope, the data files are still the one week old versions. Booting Win7 CD, Recovery console - Cmd prompt - navigating - yep, data files are still one week old. Removing the drive, mounting it under other Win7 installation. Still old data. Running NTFS undelete on the drive (read-only scan), searching for file created yesterday. Not found. Despair. At this point, idea: I will install a brand new Windows installation, keeping the old one in Windows.old (default behaviour of Windows installs). I boot the new install, I go to my C:\Data\ folder, I choose "Restore previous versions", click on yesterday's date, and click open... YES! It works! I can see the latest versions of my files (e.g. from yesterday). Thank God. And then, I try to view the files under the "yesterday snapshot-version" of c:\Users\MyAccount\Desktop ... And I get "Permission Denied" as soon as I try to open "Users\MyAccount". I make sure I am an administrator. No joy. Apparently, the new Windows installation does not have access to read the "NTFS snapshots" or "Volume Shadow Snapshots" of my old Windows account! Cross-installation permissions? I need to somehow tell the new Windows install that I am the same "old" user... So that I will be able to access the "Users\MyAccount" folder of the snapshot of my old user account. Help?

• EPM Architecture: Reporting and Analysis

  Reporting and Analysis is the basis for all Oracle EPM reporting components. Through the Java based Reporting and Analysis web application deployed on WebLogic, it enables users to browse through reports for all kind of Oracle EPM reporting components. Typical users access the web application by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS). Reporting and Analysis Web application talks to the Reporting and Analysis Agent using CORBA protocol on various ports. All communication to the repository databases (EPM System Registry and Reporting and Analysis database) from web and application layer is done using JDBC. As an additional data store, the Reporting and Analysis Agent uses the file system to lay down individual reports. While the reporting artifacts are stored on the file system, the folder structure and report based security information is stored in the relational database. The file system can be either local or remote (e.g. network share, network file system). If an external user directory is used, Reporting and Analysis services also communicate to this directory. • How to 301 redirect from old query string urls to CakePHP Canonical urls?

  I currently have a .htaccess file that looks like this: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^action=view&item=([0-9]+)$ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ /index.php?url=item/%1 [R=301] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L] It is meant to 301 redirect my old query string based URLs to new CakePHP urls. This will successfully send users to the correct page. However, Google doesn't seem to like it (see below). I previously tried doing this: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^action=view&item=([0-9]+)$ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ /item/%1 [R=301] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L] But that fails. The second rewrite rule doesn't seem to catch the rewritten URL. It goes straight through. Using the first version wouldn't be a problem, except that I suspect that is what is choking up Google. It hasn't indexed my sitemap full of the new URLs. My old sitemap had been fully indexed and all the URLs are in Google's index. But it isn't following the redirects from the old URLs to the new. I have a 'not followed' error for every one of the query urls that was in my old sitemap. Am I properly using a 301 redirect here? Is it the weird rewrite rule? What can I do to send both Google and users to the proper page and save my page rank?

  After few months from migrating one of my networks on Active Directory this issue started. A few users are encountering an issue from time to time - they cannot rename folders and files on desktop. The system throws an error saying the folder or file is already in use. Folder redirection takes place in this scenario (Desktop and My Documents) Subnet with user PCs is different from subnet with servers (Cisco ASA5505 Security Plus between - all inspection policies disabled on these interfaces) Users are running Windows 7 Professional x86 Server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Any ideas?

  I've got 389 Directory Server running on RHEL 5 with groups, users, posix etc. RHEL clients are authenticating users with LDAP - no problems, everything works perfect, but passwords are sent in plaintext and are visible with network sniffer. So, decided to run with SSL: Created CA - got both private and public CA certificates Using CA certs: generated both of private and public certificates and combined (1st file) for 389DS according to 389DS certificate request, imported with CA public cert to 389DS from graphical console (2nd file). Enabled SSL in 389DS On the client, using authconfig-gtk enabled SSL for LDAP, specified only CA public certificate Doesn't work. Howto? What is the best way to integrate safely?

• What is a user-friendly solution to editing email templates with replacement variables?

  I'm working on a system where we rely a lot of "admins / managers" emailing users from the database. One of the key features is being able to email several people at the same time, with specific information relevant to each of them. Another key feature is to be able to hand-craft emails, because it tends to be be necessary to slightly modify them each time, but having a basic template saves a lot of time. For this, we have the typical "templates" solution, where we have a template that looks kind of like this: Hello {{recipient.full_name}}, Your application to {{activity.title}} has been accepted. You have requested to participate on dates {{application.dates}}, in role {{application.role}} Blah blah blah The problem we are having is obviously that (as we expected), managers don't get the whole "variables" idea, and they do things like overwriting them, which doesn't let them email more than one person at a time, assuming those are not going to get replaced and that the system is broken, or even inexplicable things like "Hello {{John}}". The big problem is that this isn't relegated, as usual, to an "admin" section where only a few power users have access to editing the templates that are automatically send out, and they're expected to know what they are doing. Every user of the system gets exposed to this problem. The obvious solution would be to replace the variables before showing this template for the user to edit, but that doesn't work when emailing several people. This seems like a reasonably common problem, and we are kind of hoping that someone has already solved it. Have you seen anywhere/created/can think of good solutions to this problem?
