    I read through the previous post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/73022/codefile-vs-codebehind, but I'm still confused on which I should use. It sounds like CodeFile is the newer option that should be used, yet VS2010 generates CodeBehind when creating a new Web Form.

  • log4net with .NET 4.0

    I've thrown together some code to tinker with the new .Net 4.0/VS 2010 pieces, but I can't seem to find a build of my logging framework of choice (log4net) for 4.0, and I'm getting reference errors with the 2.0 version. Is there a 4.0 version available somewhere? I'm not asking for new features, just a version that's already been rebuilt against the new assemblies. Anyone know where I can find a build of 1.2.10 built for the 4.0 framework?

    Hi, I am having a requirement, where I need to have a pie-chart, i need text around pie-chart , the text should be a hyperlink. Ex: we have 3 three fields A,B,C. A's ratio is 30%, B's ratio is 40%, c's ratio is 30% So pie chart gets divided into 3 parts, outside the graph , we should get the label A(in A's area only), when we point on , tool tip should say "A's ratio is 30 %'. I am working in .Net 3.5, VS 2008, using MS chart control(added explicitly by executing MSChart.exe. Thanks in Advance Ram

    Can you help me make sense of all the different ways to communicate from browser to client in ASP.NET? I have made this a community wiki so feel free to edit my post to improve it. Specifically, I'm trying to understand in which scenario to use each one by listing how each works. I'm a little fuzzy on UpdatePanel vs CallBack (with ViewState): I know UpdatePanel always returns HTML while CallBack can return JSON. Any other major differences? ...and CallBack (without ViewState) vs WebMethod. CallBack goes through most of the Page lifecycle, WebMethod doesn't. Any other major differences? IHttpHandler Custom handler for anything (page, image, etc.) Only does what you tell it to do (light server processing) Page is an implementation of IHttpHandler If you don't need what Page provides, create a custom IHttpHandler If you are using Page but overriding Render() and not generating HTML, you probably can do it with a custom IHttpHandler (e.g. writing binary data such as images) By default can use the .axd or .ashx file extensions -- both are functionally similar .ashx doesn't have any built-in endpoints, so it's preferred by convention Regular PostBack (System.Web.UI.Page : IHttpHandler) Inherits Page Full PostBack, including ViewState and HTML control values (heavy traffic) Full Page lifecycle (heavy server processing) No JavaScript required Webpage flickers/scrolls since everything is reloaded in browser Returns full page HTML (heavy traffic) UpdatePanel (Control) Control inside Page Full PostBack, including ViewState and HTML control values (heavy traffic) Full Page lifecycle (heavy server processing) Controls outside the UpdatePanel do Render(NullTextWriter) Must use ScriptManager If no client-side JavaScript, it can fall back to regular PostBack with no JavaScript (?)   • .Net Com Interop Create Instance Slow

    I have a .net 4 application that uses a Com Dll to send SMS messages. I used TlbImp to create the interop assembly and that is what is referenced in the application. When I try to create an instance of this class, it takes a really long time (2-5 seconds). I ran performance profile in VS 2010 and the call that takes the longest by far is System.Activator.CreateInstance(). I am looking for tips on how to debug or gotchas with using Com Interop.

    I have a Visual Studio solution containing two web applications. I would like the first to depend on the second (pages in the first may contain links to, or possibly post to pages in the second). Furthermore, I would like to be able to launch the first project on a development server (standard debugging procedure for web apps in VS) and have the references to the second project be fully functional. Does anyone know the best way to achieve this? Thanks.

  • ASP.net debug hangs until I delete vbproj.user

    Intermittently when I start debugging a web application VS hangs (not responding). It will start OK if I run the appllication without debugging. When it has happened once it will do it every time until I delete the vbporj.user file. This problem appeared when I moved to Win7 64bit. I am using VS2008 Pro and everything is patched up to date. I am using the internal IIS7.

  • Check whether a folder is a local or a network resource in .NET

    Is there a quick way to check whether a path I have is on a local disk or somewhere on the network? I can't just check to see if it's a drive letter vs. UNC, because that would incorrectly identify mapped drives as local. I assumed it would be a boolean in the DirectoryInfo object, but it appears that it's not. I've found classic VB code to do this check (through an API), but nothing for .NET so far.

  • Eazfuscator.NET logging?

    I am using Eazfuscator.NET 3.0.41 to obfuscate a (VS 2010) WPF 4 application. After obfuscating, when I double click the exe file it's throwing an error message like this. "Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException" Is there a way I could enable some sort of a logging to check where it's going wrong ? How can I solve this problem? please advice
