    Hello there, I have a number of enums in my application which are used as property type in some classes. What is the best way to store these values in database, as String or Int? FYI, I will also be mapping these attribute types using fluent Nhibernate.     Hello, I'm storing timestamp as int field. And on large table it takes too long to get rows inserted at date because I'm using mysql function FROM_UNIXTIME. SELECT * FROM table WHERE FROM_UNIXTIME(timestamp_field, '%Y-%m-%d') = '2010-04-04' Is there any ways to speed this query? Maybe I should use query for rows using timestamp_field >= x AND timestamp_field < y? Thank you I've just tried this query...   • Strange error: cannot convert from 'int' to 'ios_base::openmode'

    I am using g++ to compile some code. I wrote the following snippet: bool WriteAccess = true; string Name = "my_file.txt"; ofstream File; ios_base::open_mode Mode = std::ios_base::in | std::ios_base::binary; if(WriteAccess) Mode |= std::ios_base::out | std::ios_base::trunc; File.open(Name.data(), Mode); And I receive these errors... any idea why? Error 1: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘std::_Ios_Openmode’ Error 2: initializing argument 2 of ‘std::basic_filebuf<_CharT, _Traits* std::basic_filebuf<_CharT, _Traits::open(const char*, std::_Ios_Openmode) [with _CharT = char, _Traits = std::char_traits]’ As far as I could tell from a Google search, g++ is actually breaking the C++ standard here. Which I find quite astonishing, since they generally conform very strictly to the standard. Is this the case? Or am I doing something wrong.   • Custom "Very Long Int" Division Issue

    Hey everyone, So, for a very silly project in C++, we are making our own long integer class, called VLI (Very Long Int). The way it works (they backboned it, blame them for stupidity) is this: User inputs up to 50 digits, which are input as string. String is stored in pre-made Sequence class, which stores the string in an array, in reverse order. That means, when "1234" is input, it gets stored as [4|3|2|1]. So, my question is this: How can I go about doing division using only these arrays of chars? If the input answer is over 32 digits, I can't use ints to check for stuff, and they basically saying using long ints here is cheating. Any input is welcome, and I can give more clarification if need be, thanks everyone.

  • Loss of precision - int -> float or double

    I have an exam question i am revising for and the question is for 4 marks "In java we can assign a int to a double or a float". Will this ever loose infromation and why? I have put that because ints are normally of fixed length or size - the precision for sotring data is finite, where storing information in floating point can be infinite, essentially we loose infromation because of this Now i am a little sketchy as to whetehr or not i am hitting the right areas here. I very sure it will loose precision but i cant exactly put my finger on why. Can i getsome help please Thanks

Is there any better way to write this kind of function. I've also tried filter_var($foo, FILTER_VALIDATE_INT); but it won't accept values like '0003', '-0' etc.

    This is my first time I use MySQL as datastorage for my C# Application, as I've seen that there is no UNIQUEIDENTIFIER type as in SQL server I decieded to use INT with AUTO_INCREMENT, my problem is now if I execute a INSERT, how may I get the ID of the Record I just added. My quick and dirty solution has been to execute a SELECT MAX(ID) FROM table Statement. But this doesn't seem consistent. I belive there is a better solution something like mysql_insert_id() (PHP). Any Idea how to resolve this in C#?

  • Efficient bitshifting an array of int?

    Hi, To be on the same page, let's assume sizeof(int)=4 and sizeof(long)=8. Given an array of integers, what would be an efficient method to bitshift the array to either the left or right? I am contemplating an auxiliary variable such as a long, that will compute the bitshift for the first pair of elements (index 0 and 1) and set the first element (0). Continuing in this fashion the bitshift for elements (index 1 and 2) will be computer, and then index 1 will be set. I think this is actually a fairly efficient method, but there are drawbacks. I cannot bitshift greater than 32 bits. I think using multiple auxiliary variables would work, but I'm envisioning recursion somewhere along the line.

    I have two threads, one updating an int and one reading it. This value is a statistic where the order of the read and write is irrelevant. My question is, do I need to synchronize access to this multi-byte value anyway? Or, put another way, can part of the write be complete and get interrupted, and then the read happen. For example, think of value = ox0000FFFF increment value to 0x00010000 Is there a time where the value looks like 0x0001FFFF that I should be worried about? Certainly the larger the type, the more possible something like this is I've always synchronized these types of accesses, but was curious what the community thought.

Or does it have it's own printing sequence style? unsigned int a = 0x000000FF; NSLog(@"%x", a); Results of above code on little or big endian processors are equal or different? And how about NSString's -initWithFormat method? Does it follows this rule equally?

    I have the following int[] in my database: '{0}' '{0,0}' '{0,0,0}' '{0,0,0,0}' This column is used to sort my tree data. Now when a parent updates it's order the children should also update. For example if the second record updates it's order to 1 it should result in the following. '{0}' '{0,1}' '{0,1,0}' '{0,1,0,0}' So I was wondering what the query would be to update record 3 and 4.   • Sending an int from Java to C using sockets

    I was just wondering how to send an int from a Java application to a C application using sockets. I have got different C programs communicating with each other and have got the Java application retrieving data from the C application, but I can't work out sending. The C application is acting as database, the Java application then sends a user id (a 4 digit number) to the C application, if it exists it returns that record's details. In Java I have tried using a printWriter and DataOutputStream to send the data, printWriter produces weird symbols and DataOutputStream produces "prof_agent.so". Any help would be appreciated as I don't have a good grasp of sockets at the moment.

    I have a method called like this... -(void)dbUpdate:(int)forId { Which contains this sqlite to bind and update a database. sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, forId); When I run the query, it doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't update the database either. If I change this line of code... sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, forId); manually, to... sqlite3_bind_int(UPDATE_ACCOUNT, 3, 6); the query runs 100% fine, as expected. Changing the variable to an actual integer proves to me that the variable 'forId' isn't being passed or bound to the query properly. What am I doing wrong? How is the best way to pass an Integer (and make sure it is an Integer) into an sqlite bind? Cheers,

    I'm trying to make a piece of code that will yell out anything I input. So the command is 'yell' I want to be able to type 'yell (whatever i want here)' and it will yell it out. I've been able to do it with numbers but I can't do it with a String. So how can I go about that? int x = Integer.valueOf(cmd[1]); n.setNextForceTalk(new ForceTalk("Number: " + x)); That piece of code allows me to type 'yell (number)' and it will come out with whatever number I type. But how can I do it with text.

    I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement.     I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement.
