  • Programmatically open an email from a POP3 and extract an attachment

    We have a vendor that sends CSV files as email attachments. These CSV files contain statuses that are imported into our application. I'm trying to automate the process end-to-end, but it currently depends on someone opening an email, saving the attachment to a server share, so the application can use the file. Since I cannot convince the vendor to change their process, such as offering an FTP location or a Web Service, I'm stuck with trying to automate the existing process. Does anyone know of a way to programmatically open an email from a POP3 account and extract an attachment? The preferred solution would reside on a Windows 2003 server, be written VB.NET and secure. The application can reside on the same server as the POP3 server, for example, we could setup the free POP3 server that comes with Windows Server and pull against the mail file stored on the file system. BTW, we are willing to pay for an off-the-shelf solution, if one exists. Note: I did look at this question but the answer points to a CodeProject solution that doesn't deal with attachments.

  • Good Learning Method for Objective-C?

    Hi I know this must be asked a millions times and can't be easy to answer as there is o definitive method, but any help would be appreciated, thanks. I have been playing around with all sorts of things in Xcode and with Objective-C, however I can't seem to find a good way of learning things in an efficient way. I have bought the book 'Programming in Objective-C 2.0' and its great but just lays down the basics it seems. I want to learn in the 2D game development direction, then of course 3D after nailing that, if thats the right thing to do? I am 17 currently in year 13, last year of school/A Levels and am almost definitely taking a gap year. Any good, well known reputable courses online or offline (real world)? This is my first programming language, and I am absolutely serious about learning this. One last question, is when learning things online, I have in the past started building a feature and learning a certain aspect in programming only to find out after adding more its slows down the app or its to inefficient. Is the key to use a certain method in a certain situation (being os many ways to do the same thing) or use any of those methods and refine it in your app to make it run smoothly? Sorry, its hard for me to know when I have little experience, thus far. Sorry for rambling on! I would appreciate any help, thank you!

  • Replacement for PHP's __autoload function?

    I have read about dynamically loading your class files when needed in a function like this: function __autoload($className) { include("classes/$className.class.php"); } $obj = new DB(); Which will automatically load DB.class.php when you make a new instance of that class, but I also read in a few articles that it is bad to use this as it's a global function and any libraries that you bring into your project that have an __autoload() function will mess it up. So does anyone know of a solution? Perhaps another way to achieve the same effect as __autoload()? Until I find a suitable solution I'll just carry on using __autoload() as it doesn't start becoming a problem until you bring in libraries and such. Thanks.

  • How do I use the Windows API Code Pack in VB.net 2010 Express?

    Hi all, I recently downloaded the Windows API code pack for .net, and seeing there was VB.net examples inside there, I opened them up. Upon building I get a warning that the referenced components 'Core' and 'Shell' could not be found. Looking in the code pack folder I see there are no DLLs at all, but instead a whole load of C# sources. Do I have to download C# Express (which I want to avoid) to use the code pack or are there precompiled DLLs somewhere?

  • Cocoa/Objective-C - Child window with text input without main window becoming inactive

    Hello All, I have a need to spawn a window that will hover just above my main window in a cocoa application. I want this main window to allow the user to enter some text in an input box. All is well until the text input box actually gains focus. The main window becomes "deactivated." This window is borderless and is a slightly custom shape -- its more like a hover card than anything else, I suppose. Basically, I'd like this thing to work almost exactly like Spotlight (Apple + Space) -- you can enter text, but this is such an an ancillary operation that in the context of the greater UX, you don't want the jarring effect of the main window graying out (becoming inactive). You'll notice when you have some application open and in-focus, spotlight will not cause the window of that application to become inactive. This problem arises because text input seems to REQUIRE that the child window become the key window (it will not let you place the cursor in the text input field). When it becomes key, the main window becomes inactive. So far I've tried: Subclassing NSWindow for my main application and overriding isKeyWindow such that it only loses key when the application is no longer the users focus (as opposed to the window). This had the unintended effect of colliding with key status of the child window and having very strange effects on the keyboard input (some keys are not captured, like delete) Creating a view instead of a window. Doesn't work because of this problem -- you cannot draw over a Webkit WebView these days. Anybody Cocoa/OSX wizards have any ideas? I've become a little obsessed with this one. An itch I can't scratch.

  • Detecting Requests from Mobile Browsers in ASP.NET

    I have an existing web site and I would like to create a mobile version of it that is more suitable. For instance, the main site uses drop-down menus and we all know those are quite the fail on mobile devices. I would like to redirect to my mobile version (it will be a subdomain of the current site) if I detect a request from a mobile browser. So when they Google something and come to my site, they will automatically see the mobile version (just like Wikipedia). Does ASP.NET provide an easy way of doing this? If not, how can I do it?

  • I do not write tests. Am I stupid?

    I've done a little bit of reading on unit testing and TDD, and I've never seriously considered writing tests to such a precise extent. Granted, I am not working on any projects that are ridiculously huge. If all I build are small apps, am I stupid for not writing tests? Edit: To clarify, when I say "small apps", I mean apps that are not going to control a persons life and/or their belongings. I generally build things that are supposed to make peoples lives easier and to make them more efficient.

  • forcing a child component to resize itself larger than its container

    I am creating a component that displays a variable amount of "gauges" (square tiles of content if you will), that is laid out like so: <HDividedBox id="container"> <VBox id="myComponent"> <HBox id="header"> ...header content... </HBox> <Tile id="body"> ...gauges are added to the body... </Tile> </Vbox> </HDividedBox> The body Tile has a horizontal direction. When I drag the HDividedBox to make myComponent smaller, the body component will get smaller as well, and eventually if there are too many gauges to fit horizontally, they will be bumped to the next row, and thus the smaller I make myComponent, the number of vertically stacked gauges grows. This is all well and good. The problem is, no matter what combination of settings I use, I absolutely cannot get the body (a Tile) to size itself beyond the size of myComponent, which would ideally cause myComponent to scroll vertically. Even setting the maxHeight of the body to some huge value, it will never size itself larger than it's container. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks

  • jQuery color change or CSS?

    I've tried achieving a hover/selected color change for a particular field, but I'm thinking jQuery is the answer. I've looked into some button click tutorials, but maybe I'm not just seeing it or doing it correctly. The idea here is that when a user hovers over a Headline, the background color changes, when they click the headline to expand it, the background color remains constant (selected), however as it stands right now the background color of the expanded fields do not change.   • Updating a DLL in a Production ASP.NET Web Site bin folder

    I want to update a class library (a single DLL file) in a production web application. This web app is pre-compiled (published). I read an answer on StackOverflow (sorry, can't seem to find it anymore because the Search function does not work very well), that led me to believe that I could just paste the new DLL in the bin folder and it would be picked up without problems (this would cause the WP to recycle, which is fine with me because we do not use InProc session state). However, when I tried this, my site blows up and gives a FileLoadException saying that the assembly manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. What in the world is this?! Updating the DLL in Visual Studio and re-deploying the entire site works just fine, but it is a huge pain in the rear. What is the point of having a separate DLL if you have to re-deploy the entire site to implement any changes? Here's the question: How can I update a DLL on a production web site without breaking the app and without re-deploying all of the files?

  • Microsoft Sync Framework - Local DB and Remote DB have to have the same schema?

    When using MSF, is it implied in the technology that the sync tables are supposed to be 1-1? The reason I'm wondering is that if I'm synching from a SQL2005 database to a SQLCE, I might want the CE one to be a little more flattened out so I can get data out with a simpler SELECT statement (as CE does not support sprocs). For example, I might have a tblCustomer, tblOrder, and tblCustomerOrder in the central database, but in the local databases one table with all the data might be preferred. Of course I'd still want the updates to reflect back and forth between the two databases. Does MSF make this possible, or does the local DB have to have the same tables as the central?

  • SQL Reporting Services: Why does my report shrink when it's emailed?

    I created a simple report and uploaded it to my report server. It looks correct on the report server, but when I set up an email subscription, the report is much narrower than it is supposed to be. Here is what the report looks like in the designer.   • Call plugin class in Java

    How can I call a class in Java, when the name of the class won't be known at compile time (such as if it were a plugin). For example, from a GUI, a user selects a plugin (a Java class), the application then creates a new instance of the class, and calls one of its methods (the method name would be known at compile time (e.g. "moduleMain")). However, I keep getting the following error: com.meterware.httpunit.dom.HTMLDocumentImpl not found Though, I have placed httpUnit.jar in the libraries folder of my NetBeans project and can actually see that class file is there. Any experiences with this?

    I have a J2EE app and it has a listener in web.xml. Listener contains a method called contextInitialized I want to know when does contextInitialized actually get called? From my reading I understand that it gets called when deploying the application. Can there be situations/scenario's where it could be called after the application has been deployed? Say that I am in a Clustered GlassFish app server environment. Could it be called after the application has been deployed?

  • How to return a verbatim string from ConfigurationManager.AppSetting["settingname"].ToString()

    I am using the ConfigurationManager.AppSetting["blah"].ToString() method to get the path to the folder that contains the files I'm needing. But I'm throwing an UnsupportedFormatException on the path when it tries to use Directory.GetFiles(path). The returning value has the escape characters included and I'm not sure how to keep it from returning the extra characters.   • Multi-accordion help (CSS issue maybe?)

    So, I've been trying to develop this multi-accordion news section for this site. It's actually all working, thanks to an insightful plugin. I've modified it a little bit so it works as I want it to, but I've run into two issues, one which is possibly CSS. Issue #1: The idea for the user is that when they view this page, they see all the recent headlines. They can also see who it has been posted by and how many comments have been made to this article. If they wish, they can then click on the headline and the field will expand into the article. They can then either make a comment or view the comments via clicking the View Comments link or clicking the "number of comments" link in the "Posted by..." area (a shortcut to the comments basically). The problem I'm having is if I make the AUTHOR or the "0" comments a link, it breaks the accordion because the accordion uses an A CLASS to open it up. I'm looking for a fix, I've tried making it a H1 or a DIV but that also breaks it. Issue #2: This is a pretty picky one, but when you click the headline it expands, but at least in Firefox (haven't tested it in Chrome yet) the text jumps from the right and to the left, locking in place from which the CSS tells it to (padding-left). I don't know why it's exactly doing that, if anyone has any insight on that, it'd be appreciated. A two-parter to this issue is when you open the Headline to the article and then decide to close the article by clicking on the Headline, parts of the accordion jumps from the darker purple to the light purple before the task is finished. I'm also interested fixing this, but this issue in its entirety are all pretty nit picky things.   • Is there an easier way with jQuery accordions?

    I've been struggling with a feature I've been trying to create for sometime. The idea here is that the user sees the little thumbnail + headline, as well as the Posted By information. They can then click on the headline to expand to the article or click on the "Comments" link to expand directly to the comments made on the article. Or, if they want they can view comments by clicking on the headline(to expand to the article), then click on View Comments (to expand to the comments). In the end, a modular yet flexible and functional open/close system to view latest news. Here is what I've been working on: (I put all my code in one place so its easier on whomever may look at this to view) http://notedls.com/pointtest.html This is what I'm shooting for, but it's far from what I want ;( It's using the jQuery 1.6 plugin, which 1.8 is out but I'm far from being a master or expert at this and I don't think I could build from the ground up. I've already edited this plugin to get it to work like this, but as you can see, the AUTHOR and Comments start making shit hit the fan ;; It's because the code is calling the "A TAG" for the header; which is the headline. Does anyone know any easier way to achieve what I'm envisioning or possible a way to fix this current code? I'm pretty desperate at this point ;;

  • global variables in php not working as expected

    I'm having trouble with global variables in php. I have a $screen var set in one file, which requires another file that calls an initSession() defined in yet another file. The initSession() declares "global $screen" and then processes $screen further down using the value set in the very first script. How is this possible? To make things more confusing, if you try to set $screen again then call the initSession(), it uses the value first used once again. The following code will describe the process. Could someone have a go at explaining this? $screen = "list1.inc"; // From model.php require "controller.php"; // From model.php initSession(); // From controller.php global $screen; // From Include.Session.inc echo $screen; // prints "list1.inc" // From anywhere $screen = "delete1.inc"; // From model2.php require "controller2.php" initSession(); global $screen; echo $screen; // prints "list1.inc" Update: If I declare $screen global again just before requiring the second model, $screen is updated properly for the initSession() method.   • deselectRowAtIndexPath on an ABPeoplePickerNavigationController

    I'm showing an ABPeoplePickerNavigationController as a tab in my app. The user clicks a name, then email address, then I do something with the email address. Afterwards, I'd like for the person and property that they selected to fade out (not be highlighted). In a normal table, I'd call deselectRowAtIndexPath. But with the ABPeoplePickerNavCont I don't seem to have access to it's table, nor do I know what indexPath is selected, nor is there an api for deselecting the row. On most apps, ABPeoplePickerNavCont is used modally so it doesn't matter that the row is still highlighted 'cause the whole thing gets dismissed. But in my app it does not get dismissed (just like the contacts tab in the Phone app). Any ideas?
