  • Windows Phone 7 development: Using isolated storage

    - by DigiMortal
    In my previous posting about Windows Phone 7 development I showed how to use WebBrowser control in Windows Phone 7. In this posting I make some other improvements to my blog reader application and I will show you how to use isolated storage to store information to phone. Why isolated storage? Isolated storage is place where your application can save its data and settings. The image on right (that I stole from MSDN library) shows you how application data store is organized. You have no other options to keep your files besides isolated storage because Windows Phone 7 does not allow you to save data directly to other file system locations. From MSDN: “Isolated storage enables managed applications to create and maintain local storage. The mobile architecture is similar to the Silverlight-based applications on Windows. All I/O operations are restricted to isolated storage and do not have direct access to the underlying operating system file system. Ultimately, this helps to provide security and prevents unauthorized access and data corruption.” Saving files from web to isolated storage I updated my RSS-reader so it reads RSS from web only if there in no local file with RSS. User can update RSS-file by clicking a button. Also file is created when application starts and there is no RSS-file. Why I am doing this? I want my application to be able to work also offline. As my code needs some more refactoring I provide it with some next postings about Windows Phone 7. If you want it sooner then please leave me a comment here. Here is the code for my RSS-downloader that downloads RSS-feed and saves it to isolated storage file calles rss.xml. public class RssDownloader {     private string _url;     private string _fileName;       public delegate void DownloadCompleteDelegate();     public event DownloadCompleteDelegate DownloadComplete;       public RssDownloader(string url, string fileName)     {         _url = url;         _fileName = fileName;     }       public void Download()     {         var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(_url);         var result = (IAsyncResult)request.BeginGetResponse(ResponseCallback, request);            }       private void ResponseCallback(IAsyncResult result)     {         var request = (HttpWebRequest)result.AsyncState;         var response = request.EndGetResponse(result);           using(var stream = response.GetResponseStream())         using(var reader = new StreamReader(stream))         using(var appStorage = IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication())         using(var file = appStorage.OpenFile("rss.xml", FileMode.OpenOrCreate))         using(var writer = new StreamWriter(file))         {             writer.Write(reader.ReadToEnd());         }           if (DownloadComplete != null)             DownloadComplete();     } } Of course I modified RSS-source for my application to use rss.xml file from isolated storage. As isolated storage files also base on streams we can use them everywhere where streams are expected. Reading isolated storage files As isolated storage files are opened as streams you can read them like usual files in your usual applications. The next code fragment shows you how to open file from isolated storage and how to read it using XmlReader. Previously I used response stream in same place. using(var appStorage = IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication()) using(var file = appStorage.OpenFile("rss.xml", FileMode.Open)) {     var reader = XmlReader.Create(file);                      // more code } As you can see there is nothing complex. If you have worked with System.IO namespace objects then you will find isolated storage classes and methods to be very similar to these. Also mention that application storage and isolated storage files must be disposed after you are not using them anymore.

  • Should I submit my RSS feed as Google Sitemap?

    - by Svish
    I currently have no sitemap for a website I'm creating. I do have an RSS feed which includes the N latest updated posts on the site. It doesn't include everything on the site though, just blog posts. Creating a full sitemap would be a bit of a hassle I think. Should I submit the feed instead? Is there a difference between using a regular sitemap and a feed? Is it important to have a sitemap? What happens when you do/don't?

  • Add rss xmlns namespace definition to a php simplexml document?

    - by talkingnews
    I'm trying to create an itunes-valid podcast feed using php5's simplexml: <?php $xml_string = <<<XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <channel> </channel> XML; $xml_generator = new SimpleXMLElement($xml_string); $tnsoundfile = $xml_generator->addChild('title', 'Main Title'); $tnsoundfile->addChild('itunes:author', "Author", ' '); $tnsoundfile->addChild('category', 'Audio Podcasts'); $tnsoundfile = $xml_generator->addChild('item'); $tnsoundfile->addChild('title', 'The track title'); $enclosure = $tnsoundfile->addChild('enclosure'); $enclosure->addAttribute('url', 'http://test.com'); $enclosure->addAttribute('length', 'filelength'); $enclosure->addAttribute('type', 'audio/mpeg'); $tnsoundfile->addChild('itunes:author', "Author", ' '); header("Content-Type: text/xml"); echo $xml_generator->asXML(); ?> It doesn't validate, because I've got to put the line: <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"> as per http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html. So the output SHOULD be: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"> <channel> etc. I've been over and over the manual and forums, just can't get it right. If I put, near the footer: header("Content-Type: text/xml"); echo '<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">'; echo $xml_generator->asXML(); ?> Then it sort of looks right in firefox and it doesn't complain about undefined namespaces anymore, but feedvalidator complains that line 1, column 77: XML parsing error: :1:77: xml declaration not at start of external entity [help] because the document now starts: <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and not <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"> Thank you in advance.

  • Is it possible to format ps RSS (memory) output to be more human friendly?

    - by metasoarous
    Executing ps ux returns a nice list of process information, easy to grep through or watch. However, there doesn't seem to be much flexibility in the memory usage output; the RSS (resident set size) is printed in kB, which for large processes is hard to read (especially at a glance), and %MEM gives 100 × RSS / system_memory. The du utility has a lovely -h flag which prints space in a more user friendly fashion. I have not been able to find anything equivalent for ps. Is there a special formatting trick that can accomplish this?

  • MovableType: Is it possible to have a rss feed for "todays" entries?

    - by tomwolber
    Background Our email vendor supports rss feeds for dynamic content, which we use successfully for "daily headline" type emails. This is a great help in automating many different emails that we don't have staffing to create daily. One of our staff as requested that his daily email (which has recent headlines from his Movable Type blog) only have headlines from entries posted on that day. My Question Since we use Movable Type for his blog, is there a way to generate a rss feed that only contains items posted on the current day?

  • UITableView crashes when trying to scroll

    - by Ondrej
    Hi, I have a problem with data in UITableView. I have UIViewController, that contains UITableView outlet and few more things I am using and ... It works :) ... it works lovely, but ... I've created an RSS reader class that is using delegates to deploy the data to the table ... and once again, If I'll just create dummy data in the main controller everything works! problem is with this line: rss.delegate = self; Preview looks a little bit broken than here are those RSS reader files on Google code: (Link to the header file on GoogleCode) (Link to the implementation file on Google code) viewDidLoad function of my controller: IGDataRss20 *rss = [[[IGDataRss20 alloc] init] autorelease]; rss.delegate = self; [rss initWithContentsOfUrl:@"http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_topstories.rss"]; and my delegate methods: - (void)parsingEnded:(NSArray *)result { super.data = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:result]; NSLog(@"My Items: %d", [super.data count]); [super.table reloadData]; NSLog(@"Parsing ended"); } (void)parsingError:(NSString *)message { NSLog(@"MyMessage: %@", message); } (void)parsingStarted:(NSXMLParser *)parser { NSLog(@"Parsing started"); } Just to clarify, NSLog(@"Parsing ended"); is being executed and I have 10 items in the array. Ok, here's my RSS reader header file: @class IGDataRss20; @protocol IGDataRss20Delegate @optional (void)parsingStarted:(NSXMLParser *)parser; (void)parsingError:(NSString *)message; (void)parsingEnded:(NSArray *)result; @end @interface IGDataRss20 : NSObject { NSXMLParser *rssParser; NSMutableArray *data; NSMutableDictionary *currentItem; NSString *currentElement; id <IGDataRss20Delegate> delegate; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *data; @property (nonatomic, assign) id delegate; (void)initWithContentsOfUrl:(NSString *)rssUrl; (void)initWithContentsOfData:(NSData *)inputData; @end And this RSS reader implementation file: #import "IGDataRss20.h" @implementation IGDataRss20 @synthesize data, delegate; (void)initWithContentsOfUrl:(NSString *)rssUrl { self.data = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSURL *xmlURL = [NSURL URLWithString:rssUrl]; rssParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:xmlURL]; [rssParser setDelegate:self]; [rssParser setShouldProcessNamespaces:NO]; [rssParser setShouldReportNamespacePrefixes:NO]; [rssParser setShouldResolveExternalEntities:NO]; [rssParser parse]; } (void)initWithContentsOfData:(NSData *)inputData { self.data = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; rssParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData:inputData]; [rssParser setDelegate:self]; [rssParser setShouldProcessNamespaces:NO]; [rssParser setShouldReportNamespacePrefixes:NO]; [rssParser setShouldResolveExternalEntities:NO]; [rssParser parse]; } (void)parserDidStartDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser { [[self delegate] parsingStarted:parser]; } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser parseErrorOccurred:(NSError *)parseError { NSString * errorString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Unable to parse RSS feed (Error code %i )", [parseError code]]; NSLog(@"Error parsing XML: %@", errorString); if ([parseError code] == 31) NSLog(@"Error code 31 is usually caused by encoding problem."); [[self delegate] parsingError:errorString]; } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict { currentElement = [elementName copy]; if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) currentItem = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName { if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) { [data addObject:(NSDictionary *)[currentItem copy]]; } } (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string { if (![currentItem objectForKey:currentElement]) [currentItem setObject:[[[NSMutableString alloc] init] autorelease] forKey:currentElement]; [[currentItem objectForKey:currentElement] appendString:string]; } (void)parserDidEndDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser { //NSLog(@"RSS array has %d items: %@", [data count], data); [[self delegate] parsingEnded:(NSArray *)self.data]; } (void)dealloc { [data, delegate release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Hope someone will be able to help me as I am becoming to be quite desperate, and I thought I am not already such a greenhorn :) Thanks, Ondrej

  • How to read data from SharePoint list using View RSS feeds to external site?

    - by James123
    I want export data from SharePoint lists (discussion forums, documents library, calendar) information to external site using RSS. Right now our SharePoint sites built on FBA based, so all sites are behind login page. Now I export each updates from these lists to our another external public site (anonymous). I know we have default View RSS Feed option. But that is not working for all readers like Google Reader, etc. Is there any free developer (open source) tool supports in this? Please share some ideas.

  • Caching web page data, Database or File

    - by Mahdi
    I am creating an RSS reader application that requests the RSS from my server. I mean, the RSS is first downloaded to my server, then application downloads it from my server. I want to create RSS cache for this. And for example, each RSS would be refreshed every 1 minute. So, If 10 users request RSS of example.com in 1 minute, my server will download it only for the first time, and in other 9 requests, RSS will be loaded from cache. My question is, Should I use a Database (MSSQL) for this purpose? or I should use files? I have no limit in Database size nor in file size... EDIT: I'm using ASP.NET for the server.

  • How to detect if google chrome rss plugin is installed-php?

    - by zeina
    I'm working on a word press project. I noticed that rss is not working fine on google chrome. After I googled about it, it turned out that I need to install a plugin for google chrome so rss works. I want to know how to detect if the plugin is installed or not in case the user is using chrome browser. Currently I'm doing the following: function is_chrome() { return(eregi("chrome", $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'])); } if(is_chrome()) { // I want to check if plugin installed or not here. }

  • Tools for managing eCommerce backend

    - by rboarman
    I am working with an eCommerce company that has outgrown their hacked together backend for managing inventory, pricing and feeds to various shopping engines (Yahoo, 3d cart, Amazon, etc.). They currently manage about 12,000 skus and are doing $40M in revenue. Their internal people are working on a new Magento solution, but that is six months away and they need to replace/improve their current solution in order to hold them over. Their current solution was developed by two people who have left the company. What tools/architecture do other eCommerce sites use to manage their inventory, pricing, product descriptions and feed generation for the shopping engines? The current solution looks like this: 1) Inventory, pricing and product descriptions are maintained in a database and in NetSuite by employees 2) New products are added to the database via import 3) Twice a week data is extracted into a giant Excel spreadsheet 4) The Excel file adjusts pricing based on some simple algorithms 5) The Excel file exports about six different csv feeds which are manually uploaded to Amazon, 3d cart, Yahoo, Google and Merchant Advantage a. Each feed is a variant of the product which different field names and formatting b. Pricing levels differ between feeds c. Some products are not sent to all feeds 6) Orders are manually parsed and the inventory is adjusted as needed once product is sold The new solution should: 1) Import data from ODBC, CSV and NetSuite (CSV via ftp) 2) Apply pricing changes via simple algorithms (< $80 add $10, $200 add $25) 3) Ensure margins are being met 4) Format and generate a bunch of CSV and XML feeds 5) Perhaps upload feeds to shopping engines automatically What I need to do is replace the Excel file with something that is maintainable and automated. Something in the .Net stack is preferable but not mandatory. I’ve been looking at BizTalk but it may take too long to develop and deploy. Any suggestions?

  • Help with PHP simplehtmldom - Modifiying a form.

    - by onemyndseye
    Ive gotten some great help here and I am so close to solving my problem that I can taste it. But I seem to be stuck. I need to scrape a simple form from a local webserver and only return the lines that match a users local email (i.e. onemyndseye@localhost). simplehtmldom makes easy work of extracting the correct form element: foreach($html->find('form[action*="delete"]') as $form) echo $form; Returns: <form action="/delete" method="post"> <input type="checkbox" id="D1" name="D1" /><a href="http://www.linux.com/rss/feeds.php"> http://www.linux.com/rss/feeds.php </a> [email: onemyndseye@localhost (Default) ]<br /> <input type="checkbox" id="D2" name="D2" /><a href="http://www.ubuntu.com/rss.xml"> http://www.ubuntu.com/rss.xml </a> [email: onemyndseye@localhost (Default) ]<br /> However I am having trouble making the next step. Which is returning lines that contain 'onemyndseye@localhost' and removing it so that only the following is returned: <input type="checkbox" id="D1" name="D1" /><a href="http://www.linux.com/rss/feeds.php">http://www.linux.com/rss/feeds.php</a> <br /> <input type="checkbox" id="D2" name="D2" /><a href="http://www.ubuntu.com/rss.xml">http://www.ubuntu.com/rss.xml</a> <br /> Thanks to the wonderful users of this site Ive gotten this far and can even return just the links but I am having trouble getting the rest... Its important that the complete <input> tags are returned EXACTLY as shown above as the id and name values will need to be passed back to the original form in post data later on. Thanks in advance!

  • How to make Universal Feed Parser only parse feeds?

    - by piquadrat
    I'm trying to get content from external feeds on my Django web site with Universal Feed Parser. I want to have some user error handling, e.g. if the user supplies a URL that is not a feed. When I tried how feedparser responds to faulty input, I was surprised to see that feedparser does not throw any Exceptions at all. E.g. on HTML content, it tries to parse some information from the HTML code, and on non-existing domains, it returns a mostly empty dictionary: {'bozo': 1, 'bozo_exception': URLError(gaierror(-2, 'Name or service not known'),), 'encoding': 'utf-8', 'entries': [], 'feed': {}, 'version': None} Other faulty input manifest themselves in the status_code or the namespaces values in the returned dictionary. So, what's the best approach to have sane error checking without resorting to an endless cascade of if .. elif .. elif ...?

  • Can Atom be used for things besides syndication feeds?

    - by greim
    Purely in terms of its conceptual model, is the purpose of Atom (and RSS) only to provide a time-sequential series of frequently-updated items, such as "most recent blog posts" or "last twenty SVN commits," or can Atom be legitimately used to represent static and/or non-time-sequential listings/indices? As an example, "index of files under this directory", "dog breeds" or "music genres". Even if there's a date associated with the items, like a file's last modified date, what if you don't necessarily want time to be the primary consideration when you represent that model to your users? The context for this is passing around (generating and consuming) lists of things in a REST-ful environment, hopefully using a well-understood format, where "date something was created/updated" is a pertinent detail, but not the primary consideration. I realize there's probably no right answer, but wanted to get some perspectives. Thanks.

  • Anyone know how do i get the real time feeds on gas station price in US via webservice version?

    - by tomtom
    Hi, Anyone has pointers on how to get real time US gas station feeds via webservice ? I'm trying to develop an iphone app that give users real time gas station price near their location. Currently i was wondering is there a legit government service that produce real time gas station price in the US on a daily basis? I heard about http://gasbuddy.com/ but i don't know where they get the data source from and was not sure if i should base on their data as well. On the other hand, there is a bunch of iphone apps on the apple store that show the gas price info. I'm clueless on how did the developers got their source from to get the nearest gas station price locations. Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks for the info :- )

  • Is there a (C#) library that will create feeds for Amazon Marketplace Web Services?

    - by Josh Kodroff
    Does anyone know of a library out there (preferably in C#) that will take classes and generate XML or flat files suitable for feeds to Amazon Marketplace Web Services? In other words, I'd like to do something like this: var feed = new AmazonProductFeed(); var list = new AmazonProductList(); var product1 = new AmazonProduct(); product1.Name = "Product 1"; list.Add(product1); var product2 = new AmazonProduct(); product2.Name = "Product 2"; list.Add(product2); feed.Products = list; // spits out XML compliant with Amazon's schema Console.Write(feed.ToXml()); It looks like the only code Amazon provides are wrappers for the web service itself and the directory-based transport utility (AMTU).

  • How to get Facebook-Feeds in Trillian without connecting to Facebook-Chat?

    - by Protron
    I installed the trial of Trillian 5.0 Build 22 (I don't know if the version 4 Astra is any different). I successfully added my Facebook account so I can see my facebook news on Trillian and works great. The problem is that I don't want to use the Facebook-chat, and if I disconnect the Facebook-chat the rest of the facebook stuff (news, events, groups, request) also disappears. I tried by setting the Facebook status to Away; and I'm not sure if someone can chat with me if I choose that; but anyway I still have the contacts list full of people I don't want. EDIT: Maybe I wasn't clear enough about the Facebook part. And that might be why some people fell this is off-topic. But when I talk about Facebook in this question, I'm not referring to the Facebook site at any point. I'm mean the Facebook plugin of Trillian (and it's not an user plugin; it's a built-in plugin).

  • Is it possible to view Facebook news feeds page by page rather than loading it all as I scroll?

    - by oscilatingcretin
    If you want to scroll through your Facebook news feed (be it on the main feed, your personal feed, or in groups) to older parts, you have to scroll to the bottom, wait for the ajax load of the next part of the feed, and repeat. The problem with this is that, if you're scrolling down very far, the HTML document just gets bigger and bigger until your browser starts to die due to the overload of resources brought on by added HTML, text, and even images. This pretty much sets a limit to how far back you can scroll. Clicking on months and years on your personal feed has the same effect of cumulatively adding feed segments to the HTML document. I notice that this month/year feature is not available on the main feed and for groups. If there were a way to literally page through the feed so that only a single page's worth of feed data is loaded at a time, that would make scrolling through it much more doable.

  • : in node causing Keyerror in xmlparsing using ElementTree

    - by kguckian
    Hi I'm using ElementTree to parse out an xml feed from Kuler. I'm only beginning in python but am stuck here. The parsing works fine until I attempt to retrieve any nodes containing ':' e.g kuler:swatchHexColor Below is a cut down version of the full feed but same structure: <rss xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:kuler="http://kuler.adobe.com/kuler/API/rss/" xmlns:rss="http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss" version="2.0"> <channel> <title>kuler popular themes</title> <item> <title>Theme Title: Fresh Money</title> <description> &lt;img src="http://kuler-api.adobe.com/kuler/themeImages/theme_808366.png" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Artist: thesylph005&lt;br /&gt; ThemeID: 808366&lt;br /&gt; Posted: 03/02/2010&lt;br /&gt; Hex: 2F400D, 8CBF26, A8CA65, E8E5B0, 419184 </description> <kuler:themeItem> <kuler:themeID>808366</kuler:themeID> <kuler:themeTitle>Fresh Money</kuler:themeTitle> <kuler:themeImage>http://kuler-api.adobe.com/kuler/themeImages/theme_808366.png</kuler:themeImage> <kuler:themeAuthor> <kuler:authorID>370750</kuler:authorID> <kuler:authorLabel>thesylph005</kuler:authorLabel> </kuler:themeAuthor> <kuler:themeTags/> <kuler:themeRating>4</kuler:themeRating> <kuler:themeDownloadCount>708</kuler:themeDownloadCount> <kuler:themeCreatedAt>20100302</kuler:themeCreatedAt> <kuler:themeEditedAt>20100302</kuler:themeEditedAt> <kuler:themeSwatches> <kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatchHexColor>2F400D</kuler:swatchHexColor> <kuler:swatchColorMode>rgb</kuler:swatchColorMode> <kuler:swatchChannel1>0.183333</kuler:swatchChannel1> <kuler:swatchChannel2>0.25</kuler:swatchChannel2> <kuler:swatchChannel3>0.05</kuler:swatchChannel3> <kuler:swatchChannel4>0.0</kuler:swatchChannel4> <kuler:swatchIndex>0</kuler:swatchIndex> </kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatchHexColor>8CBF26</kuler:swatchHexColor> <kuler:swatchColorMode>rgb</kuler:swatchColorMode> <kuler:swatchChannel1>0.55</kuler:swatchChannel1> <kuler:swatchChannel2>0.75</kuler:swatchChannel2> <kuler:swatchChannel3>0.15</kuler:swatchChannel3> <kuler:swatchChannel4>0.0</kuler:swatchChannel4> <kuler:swatchIndex>1</kuler:swatchIndex> </kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatchHexColor>A8CA65</kuler:swatchHexColor> <kuler:swatchColorMode>rgb</kuler:swatchColorMode> <kuler:swatchChannel1>0.659722</kuler:swatchChannel1> <kuler:swatchChannel2>0.791667</kuler:swatchChannel2> <kuler:swatchChannel3>0.395833</kuler:swatchChannel3> <kuler:swatchChannel4>0.0</kuler:swatchChannel4> <kuler:swatchIndex>2</kuler:swatchIndex> </kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatchHexColor>E8E5B0</kuler:swatchHexColor> <kuler:swatchColorMode>rgb</kuler:swatchColorMode> <kuler:swatchChannel1>0.91</kuler:swatchChannel1> <kuler:swatchChannel2>0.898047</kuler:swatchChannel2> <kuler:swatchChannel3>0.688705</kuler:swatchChannel3> <kuler:swatchChannel4>0.0</kuler:swatchChannel4> <kuler:swatchIndex>3</kuler:swatchIndex> </kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatch> <kuler:swatchHexColor>419184</kuler:swatchHexColor> <kuler:swatchColorMode>rgb</kuler:swatchColorMode> <kuler:swatchChannel1>0.254901</kuler:swatchChannel1> <kuler:swatchChannel2>0.57</kuler:swatchChannel2> <kuler:swatchChannel3>0.519034</kuler:swatchChannel3> <kuler:swatchChannel4>0.0</kuler:swatchChannel4> <kuler:swatchIndex>4</kuler:swatchIndex> </kuler:swatch> </kuler:themeSwatches> Tue, 30 Mar 2010 11:27:12 PST So if I do a findall on say each item's description, I get that back fine. But the minute I try to retrieve anything with a : in the nodename I get Exception Type: KeyError Exception Value: ':' So this works from elementtree.ElementTree import Element, SubElement, dump, parse def xml(): kulerurl = 'http://kuler-api.adobe.com/rss/get.cfm?listType=popular&startIndex=0&itemsPerPage=5&timeSpan=30&key=mykey' rss = parse(urllib.urlopen(kulerurl)).getroot() for element in rss.findall('channel/item'): print(element.findtext('description')) dump (rss) but this doesn't def xml(): kulerurl = 'http://kuler-api.adobe.com/rss/get.cfm?listType=popular&startIndex=0&itemsPerPage=5&timeSpan=30&key=mykey' rss = parse(urllib.urlopen(kulerurl)).getroot() for element in rss.findall('channel/item/kuler:themeItem'): print(element.findtext('kuler:themeID')) dump (rss) I'm sure it's something simple if anyone could point me to what I'm doing wrong here I'd be most grateful thanks Kieran

  • What's happened to my directory on GitHub?

    - by Greg K
    I added a new subdir within my git respository: git add feeds Then commited this and pushed it up to GitHub but it seems as though I've commited a symlink / shortcut but not the actual directory and files within. See here: http://github.com/G4EGK/RSS-Reader Any idea what 'feeds' is? I'd like to remove that and correctly add my files. I tried the following but git status said nothing had changed: git rm feeds git add feeds/\*.php To remove feeds do I run the following? git filter-branch --tree-filter 'rm -f feeds' HEAD

  • How to limit a google calendar xml / rss feed by date range (not working!!)

    - by Phil
    For the life of me I cannot get my google calendar xml feed to only display events within a certain date range. I know that start-min and start-max are supposed to limit the output (according to these posts: (links to posts deleted because I am a newbie and can only post one hyperlink argh) BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK. It keeps showing lot of things outside the range. I created a sample calendar and made it public. It is some events the first week of april. Can anyone show me how to construct a request that only returns those three events from the first week in april? I'll GLADLY and GRATEFULLY paypal $10 to anyone who helps me break through on this. Here is the calendar's public feed: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/66m31c36sj9u5k8kekrvt2lpr8%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic
