  • Declaration, allocation and assignment of an array of pointers to function pointers

    Hello Stack Overflow! This is my first post, so please be gentle. I've been playing around with C from time to time in the past. Now I've gotten to the point where I've started a real project (a 2D graphics engine using SDL, but that's irrelevant for the question), to be able to say that I have some real C experience. Yesterday, while working on the event system, I ran into a problem which I couldn't solve. There's this typedef, //the void parameter is really an SDL_Event*. //but that is irrelevant for this question. typedef void (*event_callback)(void); which specifies the signature of a function to be called on engine events. I want to be able to support multiple event_callbacks, so an array of these callbacks would be an idea, but do not want to limit the amount of callbacks, so I need some sort of dynamic allocation. This is where the problem arose. My first attempt went like this: //initial size of callback vector static const int initial_vecsize = 32; //our event callback vector static event_callback* vec = 0; //size static unsigned int vecsize = 0; void register_event_callback(event_callback func) { if (!vec) __engine_allocate_vec(vec); vec[vecsize++] = func; //error here! } static void __engine_allocate_vec(engine_callback* vec) { vec = (engine_callback*) malloc(sizeof(engine_callback*) * initial_vecsize); } First of all, I have omitted some error checking as well as the code that reallocates the callback vector when the number of callbacks exceed the vector size. However, when I run this code, the program crashes as described in the code. I'm guessing segmentation fault but I can't be sure since no output is given. I'm also guessing that the error comes from a somewhat flawed understanding on how to declare and allocate an array of pointers to function pointers. Please Stack Overflow, guide me.

  • Create categorical variable in R based on range

    I have a dataframe with a column of integers that I would like to use as a reference to make a new categorical variable. I want to divide the variable into three groups and set the ranges myself (ie 0-5, 6-10, etc). I tried cut but that divides the variable into groups based on a normal distribution and my data is right skewed. I have also tried to use if/then statements but this outputs a true/false value and I would like to keep my original variable. I am sure that there is a simple way to do this but I cannot seem to figure it out. Any advice on a simple way to do this quickly?

    Hello, I'm wondering if variable length lookbehind assertions are supported in JavaScript's RegExp engine? For example, I'm trying to match the string "variable length" in the string "[a lot of whitespaces and/or tabs]variable length lookbehind", and I have something like this but it does not go well in various RegExp testers: ^(?<=[ \t]+).+(?= lookbehind) If it's an illegal pattern, what would be a good workaround to it?     I have built a class in PHP and I must declare a class variable as an object. Everytime I want to declare an empty object I use: $var=new stdClass; But if I use it to declare a class variable as class foo { var $bar=new stdClass; } a parse error occurs. Is there a way to do this or must I declare the class variable as an object in the constructor function? PS: I'm using PHP 4.

  • Ruby class variable is reset after rails app initialized

    I tried to assign a class static variable like this class QueryLogger < Logger @@query_logger_default_instance = nil def self.default_instance # Use global variable because static variable doesn't work @@query_logger_default_instance ||= self.new(STDOUT) end end In initializers folder of my rails app, I added a file with this code block ActiveRecord::Base.logger = QueryLogger.default_instance In a request (action of controller), I make a call to this: QueryLogger.default_instance. My assumption is that the call to default_instance will always report the same. However, it does not. Now I try to watch stuff in NetBeans by setting breakpoint inside default_instance. Thing happen as expected, the default_instance get called twice, one due to the initializer block and one due to the call to my action. Surprising thing is, in both times, @@query_logger_default_instance report nil inside NetBeans inspector. The first nil report is correct, but the second shocked me. It's look like static variable gets reset after rails app initialized. Is there some magic there?

For example, class foo's constructor wants an array of size 3, so I want to call foo( { 0, 0, 0 } ). I've tried this, and it does not work. I'd like to be able to initialize objects of type foo in other objects' constructor initialization lists. Is this possible?

    Hello, I have profile page where the profile is retrieved via GET. The index file has this: $profile = $_GET['profile']; When I log in on the profile page, the $profile variable disappears. Here is the form action on the login function: <form name="login-form" id="login-form" method="post" action="./index.php"> (The $profile variable is separate of the login username.)     I want to differrntiate between Windows XP and Windows 7 in a XML file. Thought i will use an environment variable for it inside the XML. However I could not find any system environment variable defined in windows that gives this information. I see the %OSTYPE% variable but it is only available in Windows 7. It is not defined in XP. Is there anyway i could do this? Note that i would like a solution which purely depends on system environment variables. I do not want to create new variables based on executing some command, because i want to use this variable in a XML file.

Please read this question w/ a quantum of attention before answering as it has a lot of peculiarities :( First, some terminology issues: You have planes and flights, and you have to pair them up. For simplicity's sake, we'll assume that a plane is free as soon as the flight using it prior lands. Flights are seen as tasks: They have a duration They have dependencies They have an expected date/time for beginning Planes can be seen as resources to be used by tasks (or flights, in our terminology). Flights have a specific type of plane needed. e.g. flight 200 needs a plane of type B. Planes obviously are of one and only one specific type, e.g., Plane Airforce One is of type C. A "project" is the set of all the flights by an airline in a given time period. The functionality required is: Finding the shortest possible duration for a said project The earliest and latest possible start for a task (flight) The critical tasks, with basis on provided data, complete with identifiers of preceding tasks. Automatically pair up flights and planes, so as to get all flights paired up with a plane. (Note: the duration of flights is fixed) Get a Gantt diagram with the projects scheduling, in which all flights begin as early as possible, showing all previously referred data graphically (dependencies, time info, etc.) So the questions is: How in the world do I achieve this? Particularly: We are required to use a graph. What do the graph's edges and nodes respectively symbolise? Are we required to discard tasks to achieve the critical tasks set? If you could also recommend some algorithms for us to look up, that'd be great.

It works in that it hides $(var4).hide();, but clicking on the object doesn't seem to do anything.
