  • Updated to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't show well, do I need to update my SDK?

    My Android app has a couple input-lines made to receive numbers, it's a calc app. I just updated my Nexus One to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't respond like the way they should. When I touch the input-line, the Android keyboard used to pop-up just enough to kind of 'lift' the input-line above the keyboard - into the users view. Then when I scrolled down to the next input-line, that input-line used to 'lift-up' into view also. Now, after I updated my N1 to Android 2.2 - the input-lines are not lifting into view all the way. Also, when I scroll down to the next input-line and type in numbers - they don't appear, but when I scroll left...there they are. It's hard to describe my problem but things have definitely changed in the way my apps input-lines respond since the 2.2 update I did. If I try to update my SDk stuff in Eclipse and then recompile my app, might that fix it? Whenever there's an Android update - developers don't always have to recompile all of their apps do they?

Now, we have a slave connection open at host device. At host device, I want to know the bluetooth address of remote device. I can always pass it as data from remote to host device, but can I extract it from connection object somehow without any data transfer? Thanks in advance...

    Hi, I am trying to complete the picture of how the PC and the OS interacts together. And I am at point, where I am little out of guess when it comes to device drivers. Please, don´t write things like its too complicated, or you don´t need to know when using high programming laguage and winapi functions. I want to know, it´s for study purposes. So, the very basic structure of how OS and PC (by PC I mean of course HW) is how I see it is that all other than direct CPU commands, which can CPU do on itself (arithmetic operation, its registers access and memory access) must pass thru OS. Mainly becouse from ring level 3 you cannot use in and out intructions which are used for acesing other HW. I know that there is MMIO,but it must be set by port comunication first. It was not like this all the time. Even I am bit young to remember MSDOS, I know you could access HW directly, becouse there ws no limitation, no ring mode. So you could to write string to diplay use wheather DOS function, or directly acess video card memory and write it by yourself. But as OS developed, there is no longer this possibility. But it is fine, since OS now handles all the HW comunication, and frankly it more convinient and much more safe (I would say the only option) in multitasking environment. So nowdays you instead of using int instructions to use BIOS mapped function or DOS function you call dll which internally than handles everything you don´t need to know about. I understand this. I also undrstand that device drivers is the piece of code that runs in ring level 0, so it can do all the HW interactions. But what I don´t understand is connection between OS and device driver. Let´s take a example - I want to make a sound card make a sound. So I call windows API to acess sound card, but what happens than? Does windows call device drivers to do so? But if it does call device driver, does it mean, that all device drivers which can be called by winAPI function, must have routines named in some specific way? I mean, when I have new sound card, must its drivers have functions named same as the old one? So Windows can actually call the same function from its perspective? But if Windows have predefined sets of functions requored by device drivers, that it cannot use new drivers that doesent existed before last version of OS came out. Please, help me understand this mess. I am really getting mad. Thanks.

    Hi, When I generate Javadoc for my android project in eclipse, there are lots of warnings like cannot find symbol symbol : class TextView and warning - Tag @see: reference not found: android.app.Dialog I also tried -link http://developer.android.com/reference/ -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ in Extra javadoc options tab in Configure Javadoc Arguments dialog of eclipse-Export Javadoc. But only -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ is working i.e for String class link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html?is-external=true is generated. but for android.app.Dialog , no link is generated. Please help !!

  • android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE not available on all devices?

    I've got a receiver set up in my android application to catch android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE intents. On my Evo, it works fine - when a notification is cleared from the notification bar, I catch that event and can run some code. I tried running this on a Samsung Moment though, and it is never caught. So now I'm trying to figure out why, and I can't seem to find anything on Google about this intent action - and I set this code up a few months ago, so I don't remember where I even found this action, it doesn't seem to be in the API. The evo is running 2.2, and the moment is running 2.1-update1, so I'm guessing that it's undocumented, and only available in 2.2. Is there any other way to catch an event that a notification has been cleared? Note that I'm not trying to cancel a notification that I put up, or trying to cancel another app's notification, just catch an event when a notification has been cleared. Unfortunately when examining sources of Android 1.6 I noticed that it's not so easy. Many classes including android.database.; packages use original provider, also many other parts of framework use android.database.sqlite.; packages directly, wich ofcourse make this abstraction a bit confusing and unnesesary. But going to my question. If there is any way that I could extend database interfaces to use custom implmentation of sqlite (or any other database)?

  • Possible to change where Android Virtual Devices are saved?

    I've set up the Android SDK and Eclipse on my machine running Windows XP and AVDs (Android Virtual Devices) are saved to "Documents and Settings\user\.android" by default. Is there any way to change this behavior? I have all of the other components saved in a directory on a separate partition and would like everything to be consolidated. Obviously not a huge deal but does anyone here know a workaround for this?

    Android Code Style Guide defines "Android Code Style Rules". To conform to these rules one have to change quite a number of settings of the Java Code Formatter (Window-Preferences-Java-Formatter) default profile (in Eclipse IDE). Did anyone managed to configure the formatter to follow the "Android Code Style Rules" already? PS: I've tried to do this myself but I've found that there are too many formatter options available, and most of them are not mentioned in the Code Style Guide :-(

  • DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

    I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used.   • Using a portable USB monitor in Ubuntu 13.04 (AOC e1649Fwu - DisplayLink)

    Having access to a little bit of IT hardware extravaganza isn't that easy here in Mauritius for exactly two reasons - either it is simply not available or it is expensive like nowhere. Well, by chance I came across an advert by a local hardware supplier and their offer of the week caught my attention - a portable USB monitor. Sounds cool, and the specs are okay as well. It's completely driven via USB 2.0, has a light weight, the dimensions would fit into my laptop bag and the resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is okay for a second screen. Long story, short ending: I called them and only got to understand that they are out of stock - how convenient! Well, as usual I left some contact details and got the regular 'We call you back' answer. Surprisingly, I didn't receive a phone call as promised and after starting to complain via social media networks they finally came back to me with new units available - and *drum-roll* still the same price tag as promoted (and free delivery on top as one of their employees lives in Flic en Flac). Guess, it was a no-brainer to get at least one unit to fool around with. In worst case it might end up as image frame on the shelf or so... The usual suspects... Ubuntu first! Of course, the packing mentions only Windows or Mac OS as supported operating systems and without hesitation at all, I hooked up the device on my main machine running on Ubuntu 13.04. Result: Blackout... Hm, actually not the situation I was looking for but okay can't be too difficult to get this piece of hardware up and running. A quick and dirty research on the net gave me some hints towards the udlfb framebuffer device for USB DisplayLink devices. Back to Ubuntu - Kernel too old Some more research on Google and various hits recommend that the original displaylink driver has been merged into the recent kernel development and one should manually upgrade the kernel image (and both header) packages for Ubuntu. At least kernel 3.9 or higher would be necessary, and so I went out to this URL: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and I downloaded all the good stuff from the v3.9-raring directory. This information belongs to the past and is not valid on kernel 3.9 or higher. Same hardware but Windows 8 Of course, I wanted to know how the latest incarnation from Redmond would handle the new hardware... Flawless! Most interesting aspect here: I did not use the driver installation medium on purpose. And I was right... not too long afterwards a dialog with the EULA of DisplayLink appeared on the main screen. And after confirmation of same it took some more seconds and the external USB monitor was ready to rumble. Well, and not only that one... but see for yourself. This time Windows 8 was the easiest solution after all. Resume I can highly recommend this type of hardware to anyone asking me. Although, it's dimensions are 15.6" it is actually lighter than my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it still fits into my laptop bag without any issues. From now on... no more single screen while developing software on the road!

  • How can find out the device Id of my unmounted DVD?

    When I put a DVD into the DVD drive, it appears in Nautilus Places, but is not automatically mounted. (this is by personal choice). In this unmounted state, mount (of course) reports nothing, and likewise for df.. but Nautilus is aware of the DVD hardware unit and has read the Label; which it shows in Places So it seems to me that Nautilus has already accessed the DVD devices (Did it temporarily mount it?)... The main point of my question was to determine how to find the device Id of an unmounted device .. but as I've been writing this, I now think it may not be as simple as that... This issue came up because I wanted to test this command cat iso-pieces.* | growisofs -Z /dev/dvd=/dev/stdin, but then realized that I didn't know how to get my DVD's device Id. ... and does the above command requires a mounted device, or does it write directly to the device? ... as you can see, I'm a bit vague about devices :) Come to think of it maybe Nautalus read the DVD device directly, because when all is said and done, something has to read/write directly to it. info growisofs says: Under Linux it will most likely be an ide-scsi device such as "/dev/scd0 How can I find this Id via a script?

    In my code, I want to be able to temporarily hide (and subsequently show) a video. I am using a SurfaceView + MediaPlayer combination instead of the VideoView due to requirements. However, I am facing difficulties in getting video playback to occur as expected after I show the SurfaceView.     Hi guys, I was just wondering if Android had built in code so that I could select multiple images in a gallery-view and then have those images exported as filenames in a string array(ex /sdcard/~f1.jpg, /sdcard/~f2.jpg,...).
