• Tomcat stops responding to JK requests

  Hello. I have a nasty issue with load-balanced Tomcat servers that are hanging up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The system I'm running Tomcat 6.0.26 on HotSpot Server 14.3-b01 (Java 1.6.0_17-b04) on three servers sitting behind another server that acts as load balancer. The load balancer runs Apache (2.2.8-1) + MOD_JK (1.2.25). All of the servers are running Ubuntu 8.04. The Tomcat's have 2 connectors configured: an AJP one, and a HTTP one. The AJP is to be used with the load balancer, while the HTTP is used by the dev team to directly connect to a chosen server (if we have a reason to do so). I have Lambda Probe 1.7b installed on the Tomcat servers to help me diagnose and fix the problem soon to be described. The problem Here's the problem: after about 1 day the application servers are up, JK Status Manager starts reporting status ERR for, say, Tomcat2. It will simply get stuck on this state, and the only fix I've found so far is to ssh the box and restart Tomcat. I must also mention that JK Status Manager takes a lot longer to refresh when there's a Tomcat server in this state. Finally, the "Busy" count of the stuck Tomcat on JK Status Manager is always high, and won't go down per se -- I must restart the Tomcat server, wait, then reset the worker on JK. Analysis Since I have 2 connectors on each Tomcat (AJP and HTTP), I still can connect to the application through the HTTP one. The application works just fine like this, very, very fast. That is perfectly normal, since I'm the only one using this server (as JK stopped delegating requests to this Tomcat). To try to better understand the problem, I've taken a thread dump from a Tomcat which is not responding anymore, and from another one that has been restarted recently (say, 1 hour before). The instance that is responding normally to JK shows most of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Runnable" state, with the following stack trace: java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead0 ( native code ) java.net.SocketInputStream.read ( SocketInputStream.java:129 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.fill ( BufferedInputStream.java:218 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read1 ( BufferedInputStream.java:258 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read ( BufferedInputStream.java:317 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.read ( ChannelSocket.java:621 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.receive ( ChannelSocket.java:559 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.processConnection ( ChannelSocket.java:686 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket$SocketConnection.runIt ( ChannelSocket.java:891 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:690 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) The instance that is stuck show most (all?) of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Waiting" state. These have the following stack trace: java.lang.Object.wait ( native code ) java.lang.Object.wait ( Object.java:485 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:662 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) I don't know of the internals of Tomcat, but I would infer that the "Waiting" threads are simply threads sitting on a thread pool. So, if they are threads waiting inside of a thread pool, why wouldn't Tomcat put them to work on processing requests from JK? Solution? So, as I've stated before, the only fix I've found is to stop the Tomcat instance, stop the JK worker, wait the latter's busy count slowly go down, start Tomcat again, and enable the JK worker once again. What is causing this problem? How should I further investigate it? What can I do to solve it? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I tried doing a mvn dependency:tree and I get a tree of dependencies. The output looks like below. I want to know what is the "-" symbol that is shown at times and the "+-" symbol for other dependencies (it doesnt seem to be the scope) My actual question is, My project depends on many modules which internally depends on many spring artifacts. There are a few version clashes. I want to upgrade all spring related libraries to say the latest one (2.6.x or above). What is the preferred way to do this? Should I declare all the deps spring-context, spring-support (and 10 other artifacts) in my pom.xml and point them to 2.6.x ? Is there any other better method ?   I am facing problems in using xalan in eclipse plugin. I have following lib jars in plugin classpath: xml-apis.jar, xercesImpl.jar, serializer.jar, xalan.jar I even can't create class instance by: c = Class.forName("org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl"); Object o = c.newInstance(); It returns error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl But if I run same code outside eclipse plugin with same libs on classpath, it works fine. Could Somebody give an idea if I am doing some mistake or how to reolve this issue?

• Search Netflix using API without the user being logged in?

  I'm trying to search Netflix through their API, but without logging anyone in (because I want to do this on the back-end, not necessarily related to any user action). I'm just starting off with their API so please forgive me if I'm doing something completely stupid. Here's the URL I'm trying to access: http://api.netflix.com/catalog/titles/?oauth_consumer_key=MY_CONSUMER_KEY&oauth_token_secret=MY_SECRET&term=fight+club However, that gives me a 400 Bad Request error. Is there no way to browse/search the Netflix catalog without having a user first sign in to my application? Or am I doing something wrong? Note: I'm accessing said URL through my browser, since I only want to perform a GET request, which is what a browser does by default.

• Blocking on DBCP connection pool (open and close connnection). Is database connection pooling in OpenEJB pluggable?

  We use OpenEJB on Tomcat (used to run on JBoss, Weblogic, etc.). While running load tests we experience significant performance problems with handling JMS messages (queues). Problem was localized to blocking on database connection pool getting or releasing connection to the pool. Blocking prevented concurrent MDB instances (threads) from running hence performance suffered 10-fold and worse. The same code used to run on application servers (with their respective connection pool implementations) with no blocking at all. Some EJBs do use container-managed transactions though (and we can observe blocking there as well). Are there any DBCP configurations that may fix blocking? Is DBCP connection pool implementation replaceable in OpenEJB? How easy (difficult) to replace it with another library? • Yet another Python Windows CMD mklink problem ... can't get it to work!

  OK I have just posted another question which outlined my program but the specific problem was different. Now, my program just stops working without any message whatsoever. I'd be grateful if someone could help me here. If I run this now over some folder, the whole thing just stops after 10 or so symbolic links. It created 9 symlinks for some files in the # tag & reencode and the first three files in the ChillOutMix folder. The cmd.exe Window is still open and empty, and shows in its title bar that it is currently processing the mklink command for the third file in ChillOutMix. I tried to insert a time.sleep(2) after each cmdprocess.stdin.write in case Python is just too fast for the cmd process, but it doesn't help. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

• How to include javascript/css once with Struts 1.x

  If this is the wrong approach, please suggest something better, but my current efforts have been trying to find something that exists for a single page load, such that I can cache which javascript/css files have been included so as to only include them once. I thought in a TagSupport subclass I could use (HttpServletRequest)pageContext.getRequest().getParameterMap().put(srcKey,true) but the request is per jsp, not per page load so it was a failure. I could set up a filter in web.xml, but it seems I would have to search the response for duplicates and rewrite the response...pain. I could try to store things in the session, but there are headaches with clearing values... Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi all, I have a problem regarding Java custom serialization. I have a graph of objects and want to configure where to stop when I serialize a root object from client to server. Let's make it a bit concrete, clear by giving a sample scenario. I have Classes of type Company Employee (abstract) Manager extends Employee Secretary extends Employee Analyst extends Employee Project Here are the relations: Company(1)---(n)Employee Manager(1)---(n)Project Analyst(1)---(n)Project Imagine, I'm on the client side and I want to create a new company, assign it 10 employees (new or some existing) and send this new company to the server. What I expect in this scenario is to serialize the company and all bounding employees to the server side, because I'll save the relations on the database. So far no problem, since the default Java serialization mechanism serializes the whole object graph, excluding the field which are static or transient. My goal is about the following scenario. Imagine, I loaded a company and its 1000 employees from the server to the client side. Now I only want to rename the company's name (or some other field, that directly belongs to the company) and update this record. This time, I want to send only the company object to the server side and not the whole list of employees (I just update the name, the employees are in this use case irrelevant). My aim also includes the configurability of saying, transfer the company AND the employees but not the Project-Relations, you must stop there. Do you know any possibility of achieving this in a generic way, without implementing the writeObject, readObject for every single Entity-Object? What would be your suggestions? I would really appreciate your answers. I'm open to any ideas and am ready to answer your questions in case something is not clear.

• Can't get a LiveFolder to launch my activity like it should

  I was able to create a ContentProvider for a LiveFolder, but I can't seem to be able to create my intents correctly, so it always gives "Application is not installed on your phone" errors when clicking on items inside the folder. My Activity is defined like so, in the manifest: <activity android:name=".MyActivity"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> </activity> Then, I create the intents I place in the LiveFolders.INTENT column like this: i = new Intent(); i.setAction(null); i.setClassName("my.package.here", ".MyActivity"); I don't get why this is not working. Maybe I'm making some stupid mistake, but please point me in the right direction.

• File not readable exception - pear/Config_Lite

  I have two config files located in: /etc/svnauth and var/www/svnauth I have given read, write access to for both files like shown below chown -R apache:apache /etc/svnauth chmod -R 770 /etc/svnauth chown -R apache:apache /var/www/svnauth chmod -R 770 /var/www/svnauth When I try to read these two files using pear/Config_Lite, /etc/svnauth always fails. I can successfully read the /var/www/svnauth file Any reasons for this? • Jqgrid search option hides the grid table

  The issue is when I click on search option (on pager) it shows the search window but the grid gets hide. I'm including the jqmodal.js file.   I've searched various websites for instructions on how to link 'Cassandra' and 'Eclipse' and followed directions to the last detail in several sites. For some reason, while using Git Bash, I cant get through the 'ant build', via instruction in said mentioned locations across the web. In some location's its easy, just make sure you have; 1. Apache Cassandra source 2. Apache Ant 3. Git So, yeah I've downloaded all the above, tried the same directory, different directories, etc., although still unable to get past the middle step of 'ant build'.   Let say that given the following signature in LegacyLib.dll: int Login(SysInst *inst, char username[8], char password[6]); The simple way to marshal this function in C# would be: [DllImport("LegacyLib.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] public static extern int Login(ref SysInst inst, string username, string password); The problem of doing it in a such a naive way is that the managed string we passed into the username or password parameter could be longer than the array bounds and this could potentially cause a buffer overrun in LegacyLib.dll. Is there a better way which overcomes this problem? i.e. is there any quick [MarshalAs(…)] magic that I could use to counter that?

I configured settings.xml correctly (i guess so...) true http username password 12.34.56.78 8080 But still I am error message like... if i dont configure userid/password gets correct error message which is HTTP response code 407 - saying authentication required. But If I configure correct/incorrect proxy authentication it always prints below error message....   I'm currently working on a gwt app, where the server uses a few third party libs. recently I discovered that one of these libs isn't being properly loaded when running my app in deployed mode, and I just can't seem to figure out what out is I'm doing wrong. In my build script I have the following classpath declaration: <path id="project.class.path"> <pathelement location="${war.dir}/WEB-INF/classes"/> <fileset dir="${war.dir}/WEB-INF/lib" includes="**/*.jar"/> </path> and in a later target I copy the jar I need to the right location: <copy todir="${war.dir}/WEB-INF/lib" file="someJar.jar" /> The project builds as it should, without any errors. The jars are copied to where the should be, and are included in the resulting war file. In development mode everything is working as it should, everything gets loaded properly and I hear no complaints. However, in the deployed version I get this thrown at me: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/lang/exception/NestableRuntimeException java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:621) java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:124) org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.findClassInternal(WebappClassLoader.java:2331) org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.findClass(WebappClassLoader.java:976) org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1451) org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1329) java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:320) my.package.server.util.SomeUtils.doSomethingFantastic(SomeUtils.java:84) Line 84 in SomeUtils is trying to instantiate a class from someJar.jar. I know very little about how the class loader for gwt works, and I sure could use a hand. Anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?

  I am trying to clean the holes out of my Mac address book. As a first step I want to ask all my friends for their birth day, to be able to congratulate them with cheesy Hallmark cards. I need a "group" in my address book, to mailmerge personalized messages from.
