  • Brackets matching using BIT

    - by amit.codename13
    edit: I was trying to solve a spoj problem. Here is the link to the problem : http://spoj.pl/problems/BRCKTS I can think of two possible data structures for solving the problem one using segment tree and the other using a BIT. I have already implemented the solution using a segment tree. I have read about BIT but i can't figure out how to do a particular thing with it(which i have mentioned below) I am trying to check if brackets are balanced in a given string containing only ('s or )'s. I am using a BIT(Binary indexed tree) for solving the problem. The procedure i am following is as follows: I am taking an array of size equal to the number of characters in the string. I am assigning -1 for ) and 1 for ( to the corresponding array elements. Brackets are balanced in the string only if the following two conditions are true. The cumulative sum of the whole array is zero. Minimum cumulative sum is non negative. i.e the minimum of cumulative sums of all the prefixes of the array is non-negative. Checking condition 1 using a BIT is trivial. I am facing problem in checking condition 2.

  • How do tools like Hiphop for PHP deal with heterogenous arrays?

    - by Derek Thurn
    I think HipHop for PHP is an interesting tool. It essentially converts PHP code into C++ code. Cross compiling in this manner seems like a great idea, but I have to wonder, how do they overcome the fundamental differences between the two type systems? One specific example of my general question is heterogeneous data structures. Statically typed languages don't tend to let you put arbitrary types into an array or other container because they need to be able to figure out the types on the other end. If I have a PHP array like this: $mixedBag = array("cat", 42, 8.5, false); How can this be represented in C++ code? One option would be to use void pointers (or the superior version, boost::any), but then you need to cast when you take stuff back out of the array... and I'm not at all convinced that the type inferencer can always figure out what to cast to at the other end. A better option, perhaps, would be something more like a union (or boost::variant), but then you need to enumerate all possible types at compile time... maybe possible, but certainly messy since arrays can contain arbitrarily complex entities. Does anyone know how HipHop and similar tools which go from a dynamic typing discipline to a static discipline handle these types of problems?

  • Adding XOR function to bigint library

    - by Jason Gooner
    Hi, I'm using this Big Integer library for Javascript: http://www.leemon.com/crypto/BigInt.js and I need to be able to XOR two bigInts together and sadly the library doesn't include such a function. The library is relatively simple so I don't think it's a huge task, just confusing. I've been trying to hack one together but not having much luck, would be very grateful if someone could lend me a hand. This is what I've attempted (might be wrong). But im guessing the structure is going to be quite similar to some of the other functions in there. function xor(x, y) { var c, k, i; var result = new Array(0); // big int for result k=x.length>y.length ? x.length : y.length; // array length of the larger num // Make sure result is the correct array size? maybe: result = expand(result, k); // ? for (c=0, i=0; i < k; i++) { // Do some xor here } // return the bigint xor result return result; } What confuses me is I don't really understand how it stores numbers in the array blocks for the bigInt. I don't think it's a case of simply bigintC[i] = bigintA[i] ^ bigintB[i], then most other functions have some masking operation at the end that I don't understand. I would really appreciate any help getting this working. Thanks

  • How to handle pagination queries properly with mongodb and php?

    - by luckytaxi
    Am I doing this right? I went to look at some old PHP code w/ MySQL and I've managed to get it to work, however I'm wondering if there's a much "cleaner" and "faster" way of accomplishing this. First I would need to get the total number of "documents" $total_documents = $collection->find(array("tags" => $tag, "seeking" => $this->session->userdata('gender'), "gender" => $this->session->userdata('seeking')))->count(); $skip = (int)($docs_per_page * ($page - 1)); $limit = $docs_per_page; $total_pages = ceil($total_documents / $limit); // Query to populate array so I can display with pagination $data['result'] = $collection->find(array("tags" => $tag, "seeking" => $this->session->userdata('gender'), "gender" => $this->session->userdata('seeking')))->limit($limit)->skip($skip)->sort(array("_id" => -1)); My question is, can I run the query in one shot? I'm basically running the same query twice, except the second time I'm passing the value to skip between records.

  • Chart for deciphering terms in different programming languages

    - by Nathan Adams
    This has been bugging me every since I started to use Python - in PHP you have this ability to use a string as a key in an array. PHP calls these associative arrays. Python calls these dictionaries. Does anyone know of a premade chart that will let me see what the different terminology is in different languages. For example: PHP             | Python Assosicative array | Dictionary

  • Passing NSArray Pointer Rather Than A Pointer To a Specific Type

    - by mattmccomb
    I've just written a piece of code to display a UIActionSheet within my app. Whilst looking at the code to initialise my UIActionSheet something struck me as a little strange. The initialisation function has the following signature... initWithTitle:(NSString *)title delegate:(id UIActionSheetDelegate)delegate cancelButtonTitle:(NSString *)cancelButtonTitle destructiveButtonTitle:(NSString *)destructiveButtonTitle otherButtonTitles:(NSString *)otherButtonTitles As you can see the otherButtonTitles parameter is a pointer to a String. In my code I set it as follows... otherButtonTitles: @"Title", @"Date", nil Although this compiles fine I don't really understand how it works. My reading of the statement is that I have created an inline array containing two elements (Title and Date). How come this then compiles? I'm passing a NSArray* in place of a NSString*. I know from a little of understanding of C++ that an array is really a pointer to the first element. So is this inline array that I'm creating a C array as opposed to a NSArray? What I'm hoping to achieve is to be able to pass a static NSArray* used elsewhere in my class to the otherButtonTitles parameter. But passing the NSArray* object directly doesn't work.

  • Jqyery Bugs?? Long decimal number after two numbers multiply...

    - by Jerry
    Hi all I am working on a shopping site and I am trying to calculate the subtotal of products. I got my price from a array and quantity from getJSON response array. Two of them multiply comes to my subtotal. I can change the quantity and it will comes out different subtotal. However,when I change the quantity to certain number, the final subtotal is like 259.99999999994 or some long decimal number. I use console.log to check the $price and $qty. Both of them are in the correct format ex..299.99 and 6 quantity.I have no idea what happen. I would appreciate it if someone can help me about it. Here is my Jquery code. $(".price").each(function(index, price){ $price=$(this); //get the product id and the price shown on the page var id=$price.closest('tr').attr('id'); var indiPrice=$($price).html(); //take off $ indiPrice=indiPrice.substring(1) //make sure it is number format var aindiPrice=Number(indiPrice); //push into the array productIdPrice[id]=(aindiPrice); var url=update.php $.getJSON( url, {productId:tableId, //tableId is from the other jquery code which refers to qty:qty}, productId function(responseProduct){ $.each(responseProduct, function(productIndex, Qty){ //loop the return data if(productIdPrice[productIndex]){ //get the price from the previous array we create X Qty newSub=productIdPrice[productIndex]*Number(Qty); //productIdPrice[productIndex] are the price like 199.99 or 99.99 // Qty are Quantity like 9 or 10 or 3 sum+=newSub; newSub.toFixed(2); //try to solve the problem with toFixed but didn't work console.log("id: "+productIdPrice[productIndex]) console.log("Qty: "+Qty); console.log(newSub); **//newSub sometime become XXXX.96999999994** }; Thanks again!

  • Should I go for Arrays or Objects in PHP in a CouchDB/Ajax app?

    - by karlthorwald
    I find myself converting between array and object all the time in PHP application that uses couchDB and Ajax. Of course I am also converting objects to JSON and back (for sometimes couchdb but mostly Ajax), but this is not so much disturbing my workflow. At the present I have php objects that are returned by the CouchDB modules I use and on the other hand I have the old habbit to return arrays like array("error"="not found","data"=$dataObj) from my functions. This leads to a mixed occurence of real php objects and nested arrays and I cast with (object) or (array) if necessary. The worst thing is that I know more or less by heart what a function returns, but not what type (array or object), so I often run into type errors. My plan is now to always cast arrays to objects before returning from a function. Of course this implies a lot of refactoring. Is this the right way to go? What about the conversion overhead? Other ideas or tips? Edit: Kenaniah's answer suggests I should go the other way, this would mean I'd cast everything to arrays. And for all the Ajax / JSON stuff and also for CouchDB I would use $myarray = json_decode($json_data,$assoc = true); //EDIT: changed to true, whcih is what I really meant Even more work to change all the CouchDB and Ajax functions but in the end I have better code.

  • I made a horrible loop.... help fix my logic please

    - by Webnet
    I know I'm doing this a bad way... but I'm having trouble seeing any alternatives. I have an array of products that I need to select 4 of randomly. $rawUpsellList is an array of all of the possible upsells based off of the items in their cart. Each value is a product object. I know this is horribly ugly code but I don't see an alternative now.... someone please put me out of my misery so this code doesn't make it to production..... $rawUpsellList = array(); foreach ($tru->global->cart->getItemList() as $item) { $product = $item->getProduct(); $rawUpsellList = array_merge($rawUpsellList, $product->getUpsellList()); } $upsellCount = count($rawUpsellList); $showItems = 4; if ($upsellCount < $showItems) { $showItems = $upsellCount; } $maxLoop = 20; $upsellList = array(); for ($x = 0; $x <= $showItems; $x++) { $key = rand(0, $upsellCount); if (!array_key_exists($key, $upsellList) && is_object($rawUpsellList[$key])) { $upsellList[$key] = $rawUpsellList[$key]; $x++; } if ($x == $maxLoop) { break; } } Posting this code was highly embarassing...

  • specifying multiple URLs with cURL/PHP using square brackets

    - by Raj Gundu
    I have a large array of URLS similar to this: $nodes = array( 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=1&sortOn=sellprice', 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=2&sortOn=sellprice', 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=3&sortOn=sellprice' ); The cURL manual states here (http://curl.haxx.se/docs/manpage.html) that i can use square brackets '[]' to specify multiple urls. Used in the above example this would be similar to this: 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=[1-3]&sortOn=sellprice' So far i have been unable to reference this correctly. This is the complete code segment I'm currently trying to utilize this with: $nodes = array( 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=1&sortOn=sellprice', 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=2&sortOn=sellprice', 'http://www.example.com/product.php?page=3&sortOn=sellprice' ); $node_count = count($nodes); $curl_arr = array(); $master = curl_multi_init(); for($i = 0; $i < $node_count; $i++) { $url =$nodes[$i]; $curl_arr[$i] = curl_init($url); curl_setopt($curl_arr[$i], CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_multi_add_handle($master, $curl_arr[$i]); } do { curl_multi_exec($master,$running); } while($running > 0); echo "results: "; for($i = 0; $i < $node_count; $i++) { $results = curl_multi_getcontent ( $curl_arr[$i] ); echo( $i . "\n" . $results . "\n"); echo 'done'; I can't seem to find any more documentation on this. Thanks in advance.

  • PHP Regex to match lines with all-caps with occaisional hyphens.

    - by Yaaqov
    I'm trying to to convert an existing PHP Regular Expression match case to apply to a slightly different style of document. Here's the original style of the document: **FOODS - TYPE A** ___________________________________ **PRODUCT** 1) Mi Pueblito Queso Fresco Authentic Mexican Style Fresh Cheese; 2) La Fe String Cheese **CODE** Sell by date going back to February 1, 2009 And the successfully-running PHP Regex match code that only returns "true" if the line is surrounded by asterisks, and stores each side of the "-" as $m[1] and $m[2], respectively. if ( preg_match('#^\*\*([^-]+)(?:-(.*))?\*\*$#', $line, $m) ) { // only for **header - subheader** $m[2] is set. if ( isset($m[2]) ) { return array(TYPE_HEADER, array(trim($m[1]), trim($m[2]))); } else { return array(TYPE_KEY, array($m[1])); } } So, for line 1: $m[1] = "FOODS" AND $m[2] = "TYPE A"; Line 2 would be skipped; Line 3: $m[1] = "PRODUCT", etc. The question: How would I re-write the above regex match if the headers did not have the asterisks, but still was all-caps, and was at least 4 characters long? For example: FOODS - TYPE A ___________________________________ PRODUCT 1) Mi Pueblito Queso Fresco Authentic Mexican Style Fresh Cheese; 2) La Fe String Cheese CODE Sell by date going back to February 1, 2009 Thank you.

  • usort - more parameters

I have different functions, which are very similar in structure, I want to have just one function: <?php $arr = array( array('number' => 100, 'string'=>'aaa'), array('number'=>50, 'string'=>'bdef'), array('number'=>150, 'string'=>'cbba') ); usort($arr, 'sortNumberDesc'); //How can I use just a single function? //How can I pass further parameters to usort? function sortNumberDesc($a, $b){ $a = $a['number']; $b = $b['number']; if ($a == $b) return 0; return ($a > $b) ? -1 : +1; } function sortNumberAsc($a, $b){ $a = $a['number']; $b = $b['number']; if ($a == $b) return 0; return ($a < $b) ? -1 : +1; } //I want to do the same with just one function: //Sort ID is the search index, reverse DESC or ASC function sort($a, $b, $sortId='number', $reverse = 0){ $a = $a[$sortId]; $b = $b[$sortId]; if ($a == $b) return 0; if($reverse == false) return ($a > $b) ? -1 : +1; else return ($a < $b) ? -1 : +1; } print_r($arr); ?>

  • Overriding to_xml for collection of ActiveRecord objects

    - by Chirantan
    Okay, I know you can override the to_xml method for a single instance of ActiveRecord object and it works just fine for me. But how would I go about overriding the to_xml method for collection of objects? Suppose for Task model instance, I implemented to_xml which looks like this. def to_xml super(:methods => [:tag_list], :include => {:project => {:include => {:folder => {}}}, :folder => {}}) end Works just fine when a single task is to be serialized to xml. But when my code runs for collection of tasks, like in the following piece of code render :xml => @tasks.to_xml I get wrong number of arguments (1 for 0) /home/chirantan/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/core_ext/array/conversions.rb:189:in `to_xml' /home/chirantan/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/core_ext/array/conversions.rb:189:in `to_xml' /home/chirantan/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/core_ext/array/conversions.rb:189:in `each' /home/chirantan/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/core_ext/array/conversions.rb:189:in `to_xml' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/builder-2.1.2/lib/builder/xmlbase.rb:134:in `call' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/builder-2.1.2/lib/builder/xmlbase.rb:134:in `_nested_structures' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/builder-2.1.2/lib/builder/xmlbase.rb:58:in `method_missing' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/builder-2.1.2/lib/builder/xmlbase.rb:31:in `tag!' /~/blah/app/controllers/tasks_controller.rb:412:in `completed' How do I make this work?

  • Stack usage with MMX intrinsics and Microsoft C++

    - by arik-funke
    I have an inline assembler loop that cumulatively adds elements from an int32 data array with MMX instructions. In particular, it uses the fact that the MMX registers can accommodate 16 int32s to calculate 16 different cumulative sums in parallel. I would now like to convert this piece of code to MMX intrinsics but I am afraid that I will suffer a performance penalty because one cannot explicitly intruct the compiler to use the 8 MMX registers to accomulate 16 independent sums. Can anybody comment on this and maybe propose a solution on how to convert the piece of code below to use intrinsics? == inline assembler (only part within the loop) == paddd mm0, [esi+edx+8*0] ; add first & second pair of int32 elements paddd mm1, [esi+edx+8*1] ; add third & fourth pair of int32 elements ... paddd mm2, [esi+edx+8*2] paddd mm3, [esi+edx+8*3] paddd mm4, [esi+edx+8*4] paddd mm5, [esi+edx+8*5] paddd mm6, [esi+edx+8*6] paddd mm7, [esi+edx+8*7] ; add 15th & 16th pair of int32 elements esi points to the beginning of the data array edx provides the offset in the data array for the current loop iteration the data array is arranged such that the elements for the 16 independent sums are interleaved.

  • Vertex Buffers in opengl

    - by JB
    I'm making a small 3d graphics game/demo for personal learning. I know d3d9 and quite a bit about d3d11 but little about opengl at the moment so I'm intending to abstract out the actual rendering of the graphics so that my scene graph and everything "above" it needs to know little about how to actually draw the graphics. I intend to make it work with d3d9 then add d3d11 support and finally opengl support. Just as a learning exercise to learn about 3d graphics and abstraction. I don't know much about opengl at this point though, and don't want my abstract interface to expose anything that isn't simple to implement in opengl. Specifically I'm looking at vertex buffers. In d3d they are essentially an array of structures, but looking at the opengl interface the equivalent seems to be vertex arrays. However these seem to be organised rather differently where you need a separate array for vertices, one for normals, one for texture coordinates etc and set the with glVertexPointer, glTexCoordPointer etc. I was hoping to be able to implement a VertexBuffer interface much like the the directx one but it looks like in d3d you have an array of structures and in opengl you need a separate array for each element which makes finding a common abstraction quite hard to make efficient. Is there any way to use opengl in a similar way to directx? Or any suggestions on how to come up with a higher level abstraction that will work efficiently with both systems?

  • Creating an application that can open files of a given format

    - by Brian Postow
    I've got an app, written in Obj-C. The info.plist has a list of file types that the app can open. I'm pretty sure that this is working because when I try to drag a file of an unacceptable type, the app doesn't highlight, but when I drag a file of an acceptable type, it does highlight, and lets me drop. When I drop, the app starts up, correctly, however, then I get a dialog saying: The document "foo.tiff" could not be opened. DocView cannot open files in the "TIFF File" format. I DO have this in my info.plist <key>CFBundleTypeExtensions</key> <array> <string>tif</string> <string>tiff</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key> <string>TIFFFile.icns</string> <key>CFBundleTypeName</key> <string>TIFF File</string> <key>CFBundleTypeOSTypes</key> <array> <string>TIFF</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeRole</key> <string>Viewer</string> <key>LSHandlerRank</key> <string>Documents/</string> Thanks.

  • PHPExcel reading columns

    - by user1270150
    I am new to using the PHPExcel and am struggling to implement a basic reader that can be used to read only specified columns, with all rows from a spreadsheet into an array, which I would like to present in a webpage. After reading the supplied documentation and examples, I am struggling to wrap my head round the implementation of a number of examples, so any help would be much appreciated. I am using the following code to get the contents of the default worksheet into an array: for ($row = 2; $row <= $highestRow; $row++) { $dataRow = $objWorksheet->rangeToArray('A'.$row.':'.$highestColumn.$row,null, true, true, true); if ((isset($dataRow[$row]['A'])) && ($dataRow[$row]['A'] > '')) { ++$r; foreach($headingsArray as $columnKey => $columnHeading) { $columnHeading = rtrim($columnHeading); $columnHeading = preg_replace('/\s+/', ' ',$columnHeading); $columnHeading = preg_replace('/\ /', '_',$columnHeading); $columnHeading = strtolower($columnHeading); $namedDataArray[$r][$columnHeading] = $dataRow[$row][$columnKey]; } } } Above code reads through all the columns and rows and builds and array, but I would like to be able to add a configuration array that will declare columns that should be read...sure this is possible, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • Using generics in F# to create an EnumArray type

    - by Matthew
    I've created an F# class to represent an array that allocates one element for each value of a specific enum. I'm using an explicit constructor that creates a dictionary from enum values to array indices, and an Item property so that you can write expressions like: let my_array = new EnumArray<EnumType, int> my_array.[EnumType.enum_value] <- 5 However, I'm getting the following obscure compilation error at the line marked with '// FS0670' below. error FS0670: This code is not sufficiently generic. The type variable ^e when ^e : enum<int> and ^e : equality and ^e : (static member op_Explicit : ^e -> int) could not be generalized because it would escape its scope. I'm at a loss - can anyone explain this error? type EnumArray< 'e, 'v when 'e : enum<int> and 'e : equality and ^e : (static member op_Explicit : ^e -> int) > = val enum_to_int : Dictionary<'e, int> val a : 'v array new() as this = { enum_to_int = new Dictionary<'e, int>() a = Array.zeroCreate (Enum.GetValues(typeof<'e>).Length) } then for (e : obj) in Enum.GetValues(typeof<'e>) do this.enum_to_int.Add(e :?> 'e, int(e :?> 'e)) member this.Item with get (idx : 'e) : 'v = this.a.[this.enum_to_int.[idx]] // FS0670 and set (idx : 'e) (c : 'v) = this.a.[this.enum_to_int.[idx]] <- c

  • Initializing PHP class property declarations with simple expressions yields syntax error

    - by user171929
    According to the PHP docs, one can initialize properties in classes with the following restriction: "This declaration may include an initialization, but this initialization must be a constant value--that is, it must be able to be evaluated at compile time and must not depend on run-time information in order to be evaluated." I'm trying to initialize an array and having some issues. While this works fine: public $var = array( 1 => 4, 2 => 5, ); This creates a syntax error: public $var = array( 1 => 4, 2 => (4+1), ); Even this isn't accepted: public $var = 4+1; which suggests it's not a limitation of the array() language construct. Now, the last time I checked, "4+1" equated to a constant value that not only should be accepted, but should in fact be optimized away. In any case, it's certainly able to be evaluated at compile-time. So what's going on here? Is the limitation really along the lines of "cannot be any calculated expression at all", versus any expression "able to be evaluated at compile time"? The use of "evaluated" in the doc's language suggests that simple calculations are permitted, but alas.... If this is a bug in PHP, does anyone have a bug ID? I tried to find one but didn't have any luck.

  • Recursion in prepared statements

    - by Rob
    I've been using PDO and preparing all my statements primarily for security reasons. However, I have a part of my code that does execute the same statement many times with different parameters, and I thought this would be where the prepared statements really shine. But they actually break the code... The basic logic of the code is this. function someFunction($something) { global $pdo; $array = array(); static $handle = null; if (!$handle) { $handle = $pdo->prepare("A STATEMENT WITH :a_param"); } $handle->bindValue(":a_param", $something); if ($handle->execute()) { while ($row = $handle->fetch()) { $array[] = someFunction($row['blah']); } } return $array; } It looked fine to me, but it was missing out a lot of rows. Eventually I realised that the statement handle was being changed (executed with different param), which means the call to fetch in the while loop will only ever work once, then the function calls itself again, and the result set is changed. So I am wondering what's the best way of using PDO prepared statements in a recursive way. One way could be to use fetchAll(), but it says in the manual that has a substantial overhead. The whole point of this is to make it more efficient. The other thing I could do is not reuse a static handle, and instead make a new one every time. I believe that since the query string is the same, internally the MySQL driver will be using a prepared statement anyway, so there is just the small overhead of creating a new handle on each recursive call. Personally I think that defeats the point. Or is there some way of rewriting this?

  • Jquery Bugs??

  • When memory is actually freeded?

    - by zhyk
    Hello all. I'm trying to understand memory management stuff in Objective-C. If I see the memory usage listed by Activity Monitor, it looks like memory is not being freed (I mean column rsize). But in "Object Allocations" everything looks fine. Here is my simple code: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSInteger i, k=10000; while (k>0) { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; for (i=0;i<1000*k; i++) { NSString *srtring = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"string...."]; [array addObject:srtring]; [srtring release]; srtring = nil; } [array release]; array = nil; k-=500; } [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:5]; [pool release]; return 0; } As for retain and release it's cool, everything is balanced. But rsize decreases only after quitting from this little program. Is it possible to "clean" memory somehow before quitting?
