  I'll often see a URL that looks something like this: site.com/articles/may/05/02/2011/article-name.php Surely all of those subdirectories don't actually exist? It seems like it would be a huge redundancy, even if it was only an identical index file in every directory. To change anything you'd have to change every single one. I guess my question is, is there some more elegant way that sites usually accomplish this?

• Replication of lockoutTime attribute is not urgent on AD-LDS

  I have two LDS servers on the same subnet. They replicate well. If I change an attribute, it gets replicated after 15 seconds. LDS is configured to honor password policies. When a user makes too many wrong password attemps, his account is locked and that user's lockoutTime attribute is set accordingly. But lockoutTime is not replicated as urgent. In fact, it is not replicated unless there is another change somewhere in the directory. The lockoutTime attribute will be replicated. Here is an (edited Wireshark) trace. The only differences are that I'm running PIX 6.3(5) and Juniper Netscreen 6.1.0r2.0 (Firewall+VPN). • How to disable all bounce back email in exim 4.69

  I have set up an email server to send out solicited newsletters. There should be no "regular" users of this server, so it is not desirable to send bounce notifications back to the recipient. Especially so since I am tracking bounces myself by parsing the log files periodically. What I want is to unconditionally prevent exim from ever sending a bounce notification email back to a sender. How can I do this? Thank you! (I accidentally posted this to superuser before posting it here, disregard that if you come across) What I want is an email server that will accept all incoming emails, deliver it accordingly (that is remotely or locally) and not send a bounce notification the sender upon bounce. I log bounces myself, in a database. The only function bounce messages have in my setting is to waste resources and bandwidth. I need to send emails fast, using exiwhat during a run, I see a significant number of deliveries to [email protected]. I could potentially increase my email productivity by 10~20% if all bounce emails are eliminated.

• How to completely disable laptop sound?

  I have a HP Pavillion DV7 laptop with win 8 pro. The laptop has an unidentified problem with sound drivers or hardware that sometimes causes volume to constantly jiggle up and down. This is very annoying because of these consequences: Renders mute unusable - as the volume changes the sound unmutes automatically Causes an annoying win 8 "surface UI" notification to appear constantly in the upper left corner, which is distracting enough by itself, but more importantly Renders the whole "surface UI" unusable, because it loses focus whenever the sound changing notification appears When the jiggling happens, the laptop also loses the ability to redirect sound to earphones - sound comes out of the speakers even if earphones are connected. To solve these issues I want to completely disable sound in the laptop (I've tried reinstalling drivers several times to no end). I have tried disabling all sound related drivers and devices in the Device Manager but Windows re-enables those automatically whenever I restart the laptop. The BIOS doesn't have any settings to disable sound hardware either. Please don't suggest having the laptop sound serviced or fixed. It's not worth the expense. I just want to remove sound support so I can use it normally. It is very unusable as it is now.

• Changing the interface language in Windows 7 Home Premium

  A friend of mine has recently purchased a laptop in the U.S. that has Windows 7 Home Premium on it with an English interface. Not being a native English speaker, I'm trying to change the interface language to traditional Chinese. I've looked through the Control Panel in search of something that might let me change the interface language. Naturally, I looked at the Region and Language section and managed to change the formats the computer uses and install a working keyboard, but I haven't found a way to change the interface language. Upon doing some research, I found out that there are two kinds of interface packs, Multilingual User Interface (MUI) and Language Interface Packs (LIP). It seems that MUIs can only be installed through Windows Update, so I looked through the list of updates. To my dismay, the language packs are not present. The optional updates tab doesn't even show up. Many sites show a drop down menu the under Keyboards and Languages tab in the Region and Language options, yet it doesn't show up for me. We also don't have the Windows 7 DVD which might contain this useful file. As far as the LIPs go, I can't find one in Chinese at all, let alone traditional Chinese. Can the interface language be changed in Home Premium at all? If it can, how would I do so?

• Spotlight can't see anything in Applications

  There have been other threads on this but none of the solutions mentioned have helped me. Spotlight has stopped showing any results for my Applications. I've tried reindexing and removing the index so it rebuilds it. No change. I've tried adding Applications to the Privacy tab and removing it, no change. I tried repairing disk permissions and redoing the above, no change. I've tried removing everything from the index except Applications and then I just get nothing for any search at all (except dictionary entries). I tried adding a symlink in my homedir to Applications and reindexing, but no change. Any ideas on what to do? I'm running Snow Leopard. This is driving me crazy! Update: I've noticed that when I start a reindex with sudo mdutil -E / and then immediately do a spotlight search for an app that the app shows up temporarily until spotlight gets disabled due to active indexing. After the indexing is done the app entries go away.

• Test whether svn REPO changes are reflected in Working Copy

  Requirement Changes will be made to the REPO directory and this should get updated to wc(working copy) as opposed to the normal way of WC REPO. Senario: My svn repo- /var/www/svn/drupal My checkout-dir/working-copy- /var/www/html/drupalsite So I've done: edited post-commit hook to contain: "/usr/bin/svn update /var/www/html/drupalsite" I won't make any change to svn WC. I'll make changes to svn REPO- /var/www/svn/drupal. After changes are made to svn repo, run "svn commit /var/www/html/drupalsite". This will trigger the post-commit hook. This inturn will run "svn update /var/www/svn/drupal" and thus my WC will get updated with the changes of REPO. Query a. Would the above steps 1-3 help achieve my 'Requirement'? b. I'd need advise on how to test if the above setup works successfully or not. I'm at loss about the success of steps 1-3 the reason why query(a) is present. This is a bit more of a concern for me. NB: I'm new to subversion. Whatever I've configured till now have been done by reading articles online. Reason for query (b) is because I'm not into development. It seems to be a php drupal website and I happen to be setting it up. So I'm not aware as to how to make a "PROPER" change in REPO so that it gets reflected in WC. If reflected, my configs are right and the team can start on development. I manually put a random file/folder into REPO dir for seeing a change in WC and ran steps 1-3 but was of no avail and later on learned that it was NOT the way to make a change to a REPO. • Outlook 2007 will not send/receive using RPC over HTTP to an exchange server.. works for other users

  I have an incredibly frustrating user issue that I have been unable to resolve for over a week, any ideas for this would be greatly appreciated. The user is having troubles using Outlook 2007 to send or receive emails over using RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) to an exchange server. Basically what happens, the connection will be establised and the user will be prompted for the username and password, those are submitted and then outlook tries to download emails which fails and the connection to the exchange server will remain unavailable. The machine can ping and everything to the exchange server there is no connection issue there. The setup worked fine for him up untill now and also works for possibly hundreds of other users using the exact same settings, also the same settings will work from the users iphone on the same internet connection, and from my own system using outlook. The exchange server has the webmail https feature and that can be logged into and send and receive emails fine. Steps taken so far: removing the .ost file for the account and allowing office to rebuild it (fixes the issue for a short period of time, then the same symptons occur) deleted exchange profile and recreated (no change in issue) uninstalled all antivirus and firewalls (no change in issue) removed all cached passwords (keymgr.dll) (no change in issue) removed all entries from the hosts file (no change in issue) uninstalled and reinstalled office 2007 (Temporary fix of issue) Installing Symantec Endpoint Client caused a lot of email scan popups to be displayed, after a reboot this stopped and a scan it picked a few trojans that it removed. This fixed the issue temporarily as well, the issue is back again now. I am completely out of ideas now, there seems to be nothing that can be done to fix this issue outside of rebuilding the PC which is a massive pandoras box I don't want to enter with this user. --- Update ---- Malware scans from multiple products have been run on the machine and all updates were installed. The real problem with this user is his distance from us, there is no way to supply a spare laptop or rebuild the machine currently.

• Emails sent to outlook.com not being delivered

  I'm having an issue that is a little strange. I have a cPanel webserver that I own and have root. I was testing out emailing and noticed some issues. When I send an email to outlook.com address the email sends ok but nothing is recieved at the outlook mailbox. • Incorrect deployment of WSGI app to AWS using Elastic Beanstalk

  cross-link to AWS forums I have developed a simple Python web service using WSGI and would like to deploy it to AWS cloud using Elastic Beanstalk. My problem is I cannot make all the options I specify in Elastic Beanstalk configuration to be correctly configured in the cloud. For deployment, I use Elastic Beanstalk CLI utility. I have run eb init command and set up the required parameters. After this, a directory named .elasticbeanstalk was created in my source tree. It has two config files that are used for deployment, namely config and optionsettings. The latter one among the other options contains the WSGI configuration that has to update /etc/httpd/conf.d/wsgi.conf at the instances. Thus, when I update NumThreads or NumProcesses, the respective parameters get changed in wsgi.conf as expected. But whatever I write to the WSGIPath and StaticFiles parameters, I'm not able to automatically change the respective values of wsgi.conf, they remain Alias /static /opt/python/current/app/ WSGIScriptAlias / /opt/python/current/app/application.py which drives me nuts. • ASP.NET Web API returns 404 for PUT only on some servers

  Ok, I have been racking my brain and the internet for a solution to this. I just can't figure it out. I have written a site that uses ASP.NET MVC Web API and all working nicely until I put it on staging server. The site works fine on my local machine and the dev web server. Both dev and staging servers are Win Server 2008 R2. The problem is this: basically the site works, but there are some API calls that use the HTTP PUT method. These fail on staging returning a 404, but work fine elsewhere. The first problem that I came across and fixed was in Request Filtering. But still getting the 404. I have turned on tracing in IIS and get the following problem. 168. -MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 16 HttpStatus 404 HttpReason Not Found HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 2147942402 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification MAP_REQUEST_HANDLER ErrorCode The system cannot find the file specified. • Postfix with relayhost - relay access denied for bounces

  I have set up a Postfix Mailserver, outgoing mail is being sent through a smarthost/relayhost which requires authentification. That works great, internal clients can send to foreign recipients though this relayhost. However, when an external mail for a local, non-existent user arrives at the server, postfix tries to send a non-delivery notification to the sender. For this I have written script so that I can change HZ = 1000 n insert that script in /etc/profile.d and write code for loop in /etc/profile so that while running as usual /etc/profile can load the scripts present in /etc/profile.d. But when I am logging into the system at root level then showing error as "-bash: ./etc/profile.d/resolution.sh(my script name): No such file or directory Also here why it is showing ./etc and not /etc . Is something related to that?? Also I tried to add script in /etc/init.d but still no change in value of HZ takes place. Please tell where to change so that this env var can get changed. • LVM and cloning HDs

  Using Linux, I have several backup levels. One of them is a periodical sector by sector copy (using dd) of my laptop harddisk to an external USB disk. Yes, I have other backups too, like remote rsync. This approach (the disk dd) is OK when cloning a HDD with no LVM volumes, since I can plug the external disk anytime and mount the partitions simply mounting /dev/sdb* instead of /dev/sda*. Trivial and handy. Today I moved ALL my harddisk (including the /boot) to LVM. Everything works fine. I will stress it for a couple of days, and then I will do a sector by sector copy to my external harddisk. Now I have a problem, I guess. If in the future I plug the external USB HDD to recover any file, the OS will detect a duplicate LVM configuration, with the same name and the same UUID. Even doing a vgrename (which LVM would be renamed, the internal HDD or the external HDD?), the cloned UUID will not change. Is there any command to change name and UUID? Ideally I would clone the HDD and then change the LVM group name and its UUID, but I don't know how to do it. Another related issue would be... In the past I have booted my laptop using the external disk, using the BIOS boot menu and changing GRUB entries manually to boot from /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. But now my current GRUB configuration boots directly from a LVM logical volume, something like: set root='(LVM-root)' in my grub.cfg. So... What is going to happen with duplicated volumes? Any suggestion? I guess I could repartition my external harddisk and change backup strategy from dd to rsync, but this disk has windows installed too, and I really would like to have a physical "real" copy.
