  • how to reuse a CASE in the WHERE ?

    - by Thibault Witzig
Hello I'm trying to do a request that looks like this SELECT field1, field2, field3 = CASE WHEN field2 = 'something' THEN 'something' WHEN field1 IS NOT NULL and field2 IS NULL THEN 'somethingElse' ELSE NULL END FROM SomeTable WHERE field3 IS NOT NULL This results in a syntax error. I have to rewrite the CASE in the WHERE instead of just refering to it. Is there a better way to achieve this ? And out of curiosity, why is "WHERE field3 IS NOT NULL" refused while for example "ORDER BY field3" would pass ?

  • C/C++ variable length automatic array performance

    - by aaa
hello. Is there significant cpu/memory overhead associated with using automatic arrays with g++/Intel on 64-bit x86 linux platform? int function(int N) { double array[N]; overhead compared to allocating array before hand (assuming function is called multiple times) overhead compared to using new overhead compared to using malloc range of N maybe from 1kb to 16kb roughly, stack overrun is not a problem Thank you

  • Is objective C 2.0 a proper superset of C?

    - by RankWeis
I've heard that objective-C is a proper superset of C, but is objective-C 2.0? The reason I ask is that either it isn't, or I misunderstand the phrase 'proper superset', because this code is valid C syntax: import int main () { char *nil = "hello"; printf("%s\n",nil); } But does not compile in Objective-C 2.0. Obviously, this is an easily fixable problem, but I'm writing a paper, and feel that this is something that should be pointed out.

  • XML XQUERY Problem with NTEXT data type

    - by johnfa
Hello I want to use XQuery on a column of data type NTEXT (I have no choice!). I have tried converting the column to XML using CONVERT but it gives the error: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'CONVERT'. Here's the query SELECT y.item.value('@UserID', 'varchar(50)') AS UnitID, y.item.value('@ListingID', 'varchar(100)') AS @ListingID FROM dbo.KB_XMod_Modules CROSS APPLY CONVERT(xml, instancedata).nodes('//instance') AS y(item) (instancedata is my column) Can anyone think of a work around for this ? Thanks

  • Is there a static code analyzer [like Lint] for PHP files?

    - by eswald
Is there a static code analyzer for PHP files? The binary itself can check for syntax errors, but I'm looking for something that does more, like unused variable assignments, arrays that are assigned into without being initialized first, and possibly code style warnings. Open-source programs would be preferred, but we might convince the company to pay for something if it's highly recommended.

  • Explain this PHP shorthand

    - by editor
    I feed like a goof but I don't entirely understand what's happening in this code: $var .= ($one || $two) ? function_one( $one, $another) : function_two( $two, $another); Does that say if $one or $two then $var is equal to fuction_one(), else function_two()? What's the purpose of using this syntax -- speed?

  • Change query to use a LEFT join

    - by Craig
I have a query which is failing, as it needs to be using LEFT JOIN, as opposed to the default INNER JOIN used by the 'join' syntax: var users = (from u in this._context.Users join p in this._context.Profiles on u.ProfileID equals p.ID join vw in this._context.vw_Contacts on u.ContactID equals vw.ID orderby u.Code select new { ID = u.ID, profileId = p.ID, u.ContactID, u.Code, u.UserName, vw.FileAs, p.Name, u.LastLogout, u.Inactive, u.Disabled }).ToList(); How would i re-write this so that is utilises a LEFT join?
