  • Justifying UIVIews on the iPhone: Algorithm Help

    I have been messing around with a way to justify align a collection of UIView subclasses within a containing view. I am having a little bit of trouble with the algorithm and was hoping someone could help spot my errors. Here is pseudocode of where I am now: // 1 see how many items there are int count = [items count]; // 2 figure out how much white space is left in the containing view float whitespace = [containingView width] - [items totalWidth]; // 3 Figure out the extra left margin to be applied to items[1] through items[count-1] float margin = whitespace/(count-1); // 4 Figure out the size of every subcontainer if it was evenly split float subcontainerWidth = [containingView width]/count; // 5 Apply the margin, starting at the second item for (int i = 1; i < [items count]; i++) { UIView *item = [items objectAtIndex:i]; [item setLeftMargin:(margin + i*subcontainerWidth)]; } The items do not appear to be evenly spaced here.   • rails + compass: advantages vs using haml + blueprint directly

    I've got some experience using haml (+sass) on rails projects. I recently started using them with blueprintcss - the only thing I did was transform blueprint.css into a sass file, and started coding from there. I even have a rails generator that includes all this by default. It seems that Compass does what I do, and other things. I'm trying to understand what those other things are - but the documentation/tutorials weren't very clear. These are my conclusions: Compass comes with built-in sass mixins that implement common CSS idioms, such as links with icons or horizontal lists. My solution doesn't provide anything like that. (1 point for Compass). Compass has several command-line options: you can create a rails project, but you can also "install" it on an existing rails project. A rails generator could be personalized to do the same thing, I guess. (Tie). Compass has two modes of working with blueprint: "basic" and "semantic" usage. I'm not clear about the differences between those. With my rails generator I only have one mode, but it seems enough. (Tie) Apparently, Compass is prepared to use other frameworks, besides blueprint (e.g. YUI). I could not find much documentation about this, and I'm not interested on it anyway - blueprint is ok for me (Tie). Compass' learning curve seems a bit stiff and the documentation seems sparse. Learning could be a bit difficult. On the other hand, I know the ins and outs of my own system and can use it right away. (1 point for my system). With this analysis, I'm hesitant to give Compass a try. Is my analysis correct? Are Am I missing any key points, or have I evaluated any of these points wrongly?

    This is the input string "23x +y-34 x + y+21x - 3y2-3x-y+2". I want to surround every '+' and '-' character with whitespaces but only if they are not allready sourrounded from left or right side. So my input string would look like this "23x + y - 34 x + y + 21x - 3y2 - 3x - y + 2". I am a new to regex and I want to learn efficient way.

  • Menu items messed up while using MacVim with Vim Latex

    I just installed macvim yesterday and I have been trying to install vim latex today. The one thing I am confused about is the menu items on the top bar: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <apple icon> File Edit Tools Syntax TeX-Suite TeX-Environments TeX-Elements ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Packages > |_____ | Templates > | 1: | | Macros > | 2: | |----------- | 3: | | Compile | 4: | | View |----- | ... | ------------- So in words if you go TeX-Suite -> Templates there is a sub menu with menu items: 1: 2: 3: 4:. Now I know that these templates live here: % pwd /Users/me/.vim/ftplugin/latex-suite/templates % ls IEEEtran.tex article.tex report.tex report_two_column.tex and they are named correctly. Also I know that the :TTemplate vim command should do the same thing. When I type that I get this result: Choose a template file: (1) IEEEtran (2) article (3) report (4) report_two_column Enter number or name of file : So I am thinking that this must be a bug in MacVim. Is this a reasonable assumption? Any fixes?

  • Flash video player doesn't play after rewriting a url

    Hi! I recently started a new job working on a content management system. One of the jobs was to implement url rewriting, which i've done, but for some reason the URL rewriting has killed the ability to play flv files through FLVPlayer_Progressive. An example can be seen below: Working if you then follow the link on the menu and go to Campaigns It's a Living Thing you can see how it's not working when the url is being re-written.     After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." I don't want to install cygwin because it takes lot of space. Moreover, I need to make it communicate with a rsync daemon on Linux, therefore alternatives to rsync on windows won't help. Thanks

    In the Sun JVM, classes that are loaded by the class loader are put in permgen space and never gc'd. (Unless the class loader goes out of scope) It's my understanding that JRockit puts that same data on the heap instead. Is that data then subject to garbage collection? Thanks.

  • How do I pass arguments to pages in a WPF application?

    I'm working on upgrading a really old VB6 app to a WPF application. This will be a page-based app, but not a XBAP. The old VB6 app had a start form where a user would enter search criteria. Then they would get results in a grid, select a row in the grid and then click on one of 3 buttons. I am thinking that what I'll do is use hyperlink controls on the WPF app. No matter what button the user clicked on the old VB6 app, it would go to a second form. What it did on the second form was dependent upon which button the user clicked on the first form. So, I want the first page in my WPF app to do the same thing, but depending upon which hyperlink they click on will dictate what happens on the second page. They will either (a) go to the second page to edit the details as well as a lot more information, related to what they selected on the first page, or (b) enter a new record and all associated data (a new client, in this case), or (c) create a new case for the same client, selected on the first page. For me the hard thing is I don't know how to pass that information along to the second page. Is there something in WPF like in HTML where there's a query string? Or how do you get information from the first page to the second page, in WPF? I'm working in VS 2008.

  • Making .NET assembly COM-visible and working for VB5

    I have an assembly which I have managed to make visible to VB6 and it works, but having a problem accomplishing the same thing with VB5. For VB6, I have built the assembly, made it COM-visible, registered it as a COM object etc., and the assembly shows in VB6's References list, and allows me to use it successfully. The Object Browser also shows the method in the assy. I copied the assembly and its TLB to a virtual workstation used for VB5 development, and ran Regasm, apparently successfully: C:\>C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 \regasm arserviceinterface.dll /tlb:arserviceinterface.tlb Microsoft (R) .NET Framework Assembly Registration Utility 2.0.50727.3053 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1998-2004. All rights reserved. Assembly exported to 'C:\Projects\AR\3rd Party\ARService\arserviceinterface.tlb' , and the type library was registered successfully Note that the virtual W/S is Win2k and does not have .NET Fx 3.5 on it, just 2.0. The assembly shows up in the References that can be selected in VB5, but the method of the assembly doesn't show up in the Object Browser, and it is generally unusable. Either there is a step to do that I haven't done, or VB5 doesn't know how to use such a COM object. Note that the VB5 setup is on a virtual workstation, not the same workstation that VB6 is installed on. Any ideas? One thing that occurred to me is that I might need to generate and use a strong name on the workstation in question, but...

  • Problems removing a " from a string

    Hi, I have a string that ends with a " (quotation mark) that I want to get rid of. However, because XCode usually requires you to enter the text you wish to remove using stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString in @"texttoremove" format, you can't use the quotation marks in the space as it thinks you are closing the text. Any ideas on how I can do it? Thanks.

  • Debugging strategy to find the cause of bad_alloc

    I have a fairly serious bug in my program - occasional calls to new() throw a bad_alloc. From the documentation I can find on bad_alloc, it seems to be thrown for these reasons: When the computer runs out of memory (which definitely isn't happening, I have 4GB of RAM, program throws bad_alloc when using less than 5MB (checked in taskmanager) with nothing serious running in the background). If the memory becomes too fragmented to allocate new blocks (which, again, is unlikely - the largest sized block I ever allocate would be about 1KB, and that doesn't get done more than 100 times before the crash occurs). Based on these descriptions, I don't really have anywhere in which a bad_alloc could be thrown. However, the application I am running runs more than one thread, which could possibly be contributing to the problem. By testing all of the objects on a single thread, everything seems to be working smoothly. The only other thing that I can think of that is going on here could be some kind of race-condition caused by calling new() in more than one place at the same time, but I've tried adding mutexes to prevent that behaviour to no effect. Because the program is several hundred lines and I have no idea where the problem actually lies, I'm not sure of what, if any, code snippets to post. Instead, I was wondering if there were any tools that will help me test for this kind of thing, or if there are any general strategies that can help me with this problem. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, with Poco for threading.

    I'd like to write a service that periodically checks a POP3 account for new messages and based on custom business logic forwards the messages to an appropriate "To", and possibly changes the "From" as well. I might need to keep some messages on the server until certain conditions are ready for them to be forwarded. Output I want is: H343423 C343423 Output my RegEx is getting is: H343423 Something1 Something2 C343423 0 So it is fetching the whole line but I just want it to stop after first word is read.     I'm experimenting with IoC on my way to TDD by fiddling with an existing project. In a nutshell, my question is this: what are the best practices around IoC when public and non-public methods are of interest? There are two classes: public abstract class ThisThingBase { public virtual void Method1() {} public virtual void Method2() {} public ThatThing GetThat() { return new ThatThing(this); } internal virtual void Method3() {} internal virtual void Method4() {} } public class Thathing { public ThatThing(ThisThingBase thing) { m_thing = thing; } ... } ThatThing does some stuff using its ThisThingBase reference to call methods that are often overloaded by descendents of ThisThingBase. Method1 and Method2 are public. Method3 and Method4 are internal and only used by ThatThings. I would like to test ThatThing without ThisThing and vice-versa. Studying up on IoC my first thought was that I should define an IThing interface, implement it by ThisThingBase and pass it to the ThatThing constructor. IThing would be the public interface clients could call but it doesn't include Method3 or Method4 that ThatThing also needs. Should I define a 2nd interface - IThingInternal maybe - for those two methods and pass BOTH interfaces to ThatThing?
