  • Edit links in GridModel (MVCContrib)

I don't know if in the newest MVCContrib, they removed the ".Action()" because somehow I cannot access this. Is there someway i can put the ActionLink of the edit link into a grid model? Thank you

  • How do I redirect within a ViewResult or ActionResult function?

    Say I have: public ViewResult List() {} inside this function, I check if there is only one item in the list, if there is I'd like to redirect straight to the controller that handles the list item, otherwise I want to display the List View. How do I do this? Simply adding a RedirectToAction doesn't work - the call is hit but VS just steps over it and tries to return the View at the bottom.

  • jquery ui autocomplete is changing my listbox

    I am trying to change my comboboxes to use autocomplete so i leverage the code listed here (which worked perfectly for my dropdowns) The issue is that i also on the same page have a listbox with the following code: <%= Html.ListBox("Cars", Model.BodyParts.Select( x => new SelectListItem { Text = x.Name, Value = x.Id, Selected = Model.CarsSelected.Any(y => y.Id == x.Id) } ))%> and it appears that the jquery ui code is changing this to a autocomplete dropdown as well (as opposed to keeping it as a multi select list box) any idea how to prevent this from happening?

  • MVC2 jQuery Validation & Custom Business Objects

    I have an application that was built with MVC1 and am in the process of updating to MVC2. I have a custom DLL and BLL, of which the model objects are custom business objects that reside in a separate class library. I was using this validation library in MVC1, which worked great. It worked great, but I want to eliminate the extra plugins and use what is available. Rather than use the Enterprise Library validation attributes I have converted to using DataAnnotations and want to use jQuery validation as the client side validation. My questions are: 1) Is the MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation JS file still required, where do I download. 2) How to you automate the validation to views that do not have models, IE Membership sign in page? 3) How to you add model errors in a custom business layer.     I am using Entity Framework (v4) entities. I have an entity called Car with a Year property of type integer. The Year property does not allow NULL. I have the following in my Create view: <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Year) %> I am required to return a new Car object (due to other requirements) in my HttpGet Create action in the CarController. Currently, a zero is displayed in the Year textbox because the Year property does not allow NULL. I would like to display an empty textbox in the Create view. How do I do this?

  • How to get rank from full-text search query with Linq to SQL?

    I am using Linq to SQL to call a stored procedure which runs a full-text search and returns the rank plus a few specific columns from the table Article. The rank column is the rank returned from the SQL function FREETEXTTABLE(). I've added this sproc to the data model designer with return type Article. This is working to get the columns I need; however, it discards the ranking of each search result. I'd like to get this information so I can display it to the user. So far, I've tried creating a new class RankedArticle which inherits from Article and adds the column Rank, then changing the return type of my sproc mapping to RankedArticle. When I try this, an InvalidOperationException gets thrown: Data member 'Int32 ArticleID' of type 'Heap.Models.Article' is not part of the mapping for type 'RankedArticle'. Is the member above the root of an inheritance hierarchy? I can't seem to find any other questions or Google results from people trying to get the rank column, so I'm probably missing something obvious here.

If the content is loaded directly, I load a page that include the content in the ContentPlaceHolder. somewhat like this : <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="BlogPlaceHolder" runat="server"> <%=Html.Partial("Partial",Model) %> </asp:Content> //same goes for the other tabs. With this in place, if I access the url "/Forums" It loads the forum content in the Blog tab first, trigger the ajax load of the Blog tab and replace the content with the blog content. I tried putting a different placeholder for each tab, but that didn't fix everything either, since when loading "/Forums" it will sure load the forum tab, but the Blog tab will show up first. Furthermore, when using separate placeholders, If I load the "/Blogs" url, It will first load the content statically in the Blog contentplaceholder and then trigger an ajax call to load it a second time and replace it. If I just link the tab to the hashtag, then when loading the forum tabs, I won't get the blog content... How would you achieve the expected behaviour? I feel like I might have a deeper probelm in the organization of my views. Is putting the tabs in the masterpage the way to go? Maybe I should just hijax the links manually and not rely on jquery-ui tabs to do the work for me. I cannot load all tabs by default and display them using the hash tags, I need an ajax loading because it is a search process that can be long. So to sum up : /Forum should load the forum tab, and let the other tabs be loaded with an ajax call when clicking on it. /Twitter should load the twitter tab and let the other tabs.... the same goes for /Blogs and any tabs I would add later. Any idea to have this working properly?

  • Why Html.DropDownListFor requires extra cast?

    In my controller I create a list of SelectListItems and store this in the ViewData. When I read the ViewData in my View it gives me an error about incorrect types. If I manually cast the types it works but seems like this should happen automatically. Can someone explain?     Hi, I've a scenario where I need to bind to an interface - in order to create the correct type, I've got a custom model binder that knows how to create the correct concrete type (which can differ). However, the type created never has the fields correctly filled in.   • Problem showing modelstate errors while using RenderPartialToString

    Im using the following code: public string RenderPartialToString(ControllerContext context, string partialViewName, ViewDataDictionary viewData, TempDataDictionary tempData) { ViewEngineResult result = ViewEngines.Engines.FindPartialView(context, partialViewName); if (result.View != null) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(sb)) { using (HtmlTextWriter output = new HtmlTextWriter(sw)) { ViewContext viewContext = new ViewContext(context, result.View, viewData, tempData, output); result.View.Render(viewContext, output); } } return sb.ToString(); } return String.Empty; } To return a partial view and a form through JSON. It works as it should, but as soon as I get modelstate errors my ValidationSummary does not show. The JSON only return the default form but it does not highlight the validation errors or show the validation summary. Am I missing something? This is how I call the RenderPartialToString: string partialView = RenderPartialToString(this.ControllerContext, "~/Areas/User/Views/Account/ChangeAccountDetails.ascx", new ViewDataDictionary(avd), new TempDataDictionary());

  • How to structure VB.NET windows forms applications

    What is the best way to structure a VB.NET windows forms application so that code can be reused and the app can be extended easily. I used to create lots of new forms. This lead to lots of repeated code and forms which did similar things. Now, for forms which do similar jobs, such as view/edit/delete items from a specific db table, I create a form with the required controls, have the form create an instance of a class with params such as a collection of the controls and a string containing the db table name. Then the individual controls call functions of the class. Advanced forms will inherit and extend this basic form class. 1) Has there already been work done in this area? 2) Are there books / articles available which discuss the options available on this topic?   • Circular reference error when outputting LINQ to SQL entities with relationships as JSON in an ASP.N

    Here's a design-view screenshot of my dbml-file. The relationships are auto-generated by foreign keys on the tables. When I try to serialize a query-result into JSON I get a circular reference error..: public ActionResult Index() { return Json(new DataContext().Ingredients.Select(i => i)); } But if I create my own collection of "bare" Ingredient objects, everything works fine..: public ActionResult Index() { return Json(new Entities.Ingredient[] { new Entities.Ingredient(), new Entities.Ingredient(), new Entities.Ingredient() }); } ... Also; serialization works fine if I remove the relationships on my tables. How can I serialize objects with relationships, without having to turn to a 3rd-party library? I am perfectly fine with just serializing the "top-level" objects of a given collection.. That is; without the relationships being serialized as well.

I have followed all of the steps listed in the setup guide but I cannot get the validator to kick in. If I create a bog standard .htm file or a webform with .aspx extension, I can get it to work. Anyone had any joy with this?

  • Moq: Unable to cast to interface

    Hello, earlier today I asked this question. So since moq creates it's own class from an interface I wasn't able to cast it to a different class. So it got me wondering what if I created a ICustomPrincipal and tried to cast to that. This is how my mocks look: var MockHttpContext = new Mock<HttpContextBase>(); var MockPrincipal = new Mock<ICustomPrincipal>(); MockHttpContext.SetupGet(h => h.User).Returns(MockPrincipal.Object); In the method I am trying to test the follow code gives the error(again): var user = (ICustomPrincipal)httpContext.User; The error is the following: Unable to cast object of type 'IPrincipalProxy4081807111564298854aabfc890edcc8' to type 'MyProject.Web.ICustomPrincipal'. I guess I still need some practice with interfaces and moq but shouldn't I be able to cast the class that moq created back to ICustomPrincipal? I know httpContext.User returns an IPrincipal so maybe something gets lost there? Well if anybody can help me I would appreciate that.     Hi How can I do these 2 scenarios. First I validate the records one at a time. I then want to insert them into the database but instead of doing submitChanges() after each record I want to do a mass submit at the end. So I have something like this public class Repository { private LinqtoSqlContext dbcontext = new LinqtoSqlContext(); public void Update() { // find record // update record } public void Insert() { // make a database table object ( ie ProductTable t = new ProductTable() { productname ="something"} // insert record ( dbcontext.ProductTable.insertOnSubmit()) } public void SaveToDb() { dbcontext.submitChanges(); } } Then in my service layer I would do like for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { validate(); if(valid == true) { update(); insert() } } SaveToDb(); So pretend my for loop is has a count for all the record found in the xml file. I first validate it. If valid then I have to update a table before I insert the record. I then insert the record. After that I want to save everything in one go. I am not sure if I can do a mass save when updating of if that has to be after every time or what. But I thought it would work for sure for the insert one. Nothing seems to crash and I am not sure how to check if the records are being added to the dbcontext.

  • Increasing Max Upload File Size on IIS7/Win7 Pro

    I'm setting up a server for a client (something I don't typically do), and I'm running into issues with uploading larger files (11MB). The server is running Windows 7 Professional with IIS added. In web.config I've tried setting <system.web> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="65536" /> <!-- 64MB --> </system.web> ... and that doesn't work. I've set <system.webSecurity> <security> <requestFiltering> <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="68157440" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webSecurity> ... and that doesn't work either. What am I missing here? As I've said, I don't typically set up servers, so I may be missing something obvious... no suggestion will be scoffed at! Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.NET Load unmanaged dll from bin folder

    Question: I use an embedded Firebird database in ASP.NET. Now, Firebird has a .NET wrapper around native dlls. The problem is, with the .NET compilation and execution process, the dlls get shadow copied to a temporary folder. Unfortunately, only the .NET dlls, and not the native dll. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366723.aspx for details. Now, this makes it necessary to put the unmanaged dll somewhere into the system32 directory (or any other directory in the path environment variable). Now, I want to change the wrapper/native dll (opensource), so it loads the dll also if they are only in the bin folder. Now, my problem is, how can I, in .NET, load an unmanaged dll from an absolute path ? The absolute path is determined at runtime, not at compile-time...

    I have a project in ASP.NET MVC1 using VB.NET controlers and JqGrid. it works fine under MVC1. After migrating the project to ASP.NET MVC2, the grid is no longer populated. It seems that there is some new restrictions on returned Jsonresult in MVC2. How to solve this in VB.NET. Controler function populating the jqgrid is something like this : Function GetGridRecordset(ByVal qry As String) As JsonResult Dim result = New JsonResult() ... ...   • 404 Error - HEAD request on default page

    I am working on a project where we are about to go to internal release. So we are working to clean up the small problems before then. I was looking at our logs and noticed a high number of 404 errors. On further inspection it seems that all of them are related to HEAD requests. I haven't been able to find any substantive information about the preferred method for handling this in a standards compliant manner. Is there anything out there that can point out the proper way to handle that.
