• modalpopupextender.Show() wont fire

  I'm pretty new to developing for the web so bare with me. I have a company page with multiple locations and emails etc at each of these addresses. The idea is to have a single modalpopup to edit each type of data (one for email, one for urls, one for addresses etc). I link the modalpopupextender to a hiddenbutton and then call an edit function from various places where I can populate some hiddenfields and textboxes in the panel before showing it. • Event is causing an error, but I can't catch the exception

  A developer has created a custom control in ASP.NET using VB.NET. The custom control uses a repeater. In certain scenarios, the rpt_ItemDataBound event is encountering a data error. My goal is rather than having the user see the yellow screen of death, give the user a friendlier error explaining exactly what the data error is. I figured I would be able to use a Try/Catch block as shown below throw the exception, however, it appears that the event has nowhere to be thrown to and stops executing at the "End Try" line. Protected Sub rpt_ItemDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.RepeaterItemEventArgs) Handles rpt1.ItemDataBound, rpt2.ItemDataBound Try ProcessBadData... Catch ex As Exception Throw ex End Try End Sub In VB.NET, I can find where the repeater's DataSource is being set, however, I can not find a DataBind event. Any ideas how I can capture the exception in this ASCX control so I can report it to the user?

• keyboard gets locked when editing source controlled files using Visual Studio 2008

  Hi, I am facing a strange issue with editing source controlled files (especially aspx files) using visual studio 2008. when I check out and edit the file, I can edit fine for few seconds and after that keyboard gets locked and I can't type anything (it doesn't affect the files not added to source control). as soon it is locked, if I try to type, the focus shifts to solution explorer and other windows and sometimes it freezes and doesn't respond at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling visual studio, reinstalling the source control plug-in. none of it worked. not sure if it is my machine or my profile. Please help if you have any clues. I can't see any other solution for this except rebuilding the machine Update: I use Perforce plug-in for source control Thanks, Rama

• Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

  Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated. • SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

  Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help. • Mixing AJAX requests with Flash scope objects not working

  I have a JSF page that displays a table from an object called TableQuery that supports stateful pagination, sorting, etc. The bean that accesses the object is a RequestScoped object, and it attempts to preserve the TableQuery by storing it the flash map. Any values stored to the flash will not be available on the next request. I found this thread when looking up this problem. When I turned of HTTP chunking as the article suggests, the error message went away but the problem remained. Does anyone know what is going on and how this might be fixed?

  Hi, I am trying to send method invocations from JavaScript to Objective-C and vice versa. Everything works fine for window.location triggered urls, which are catched by shouldStartLoadWithRequest. Now if I try to use an AJAX call instead, shouldStartLoadWithRequest is not called. Is there a way to do this? Mainly I do not want to be restricted to the max URL size on data that can be passed from JavaScript to Objective-C. • MVC ASP.NET, ObjectContext and Ajax. Weird Behaviour

  Hi, i've been creating a web application in mvc asp.net. I have three different project/solutions. One solution contains the model in EF (DAL) and all the methods to add, update, delete and query the objects in the model, the objectcontext is managed here in a per request basis. Other solution contains a content management system in wich authorized users insert, delete, update and access objects through the DAL mentioned before. And the last solution contains the web page that is accessed by all users and where the only operations executed are selects, no update, inserts or deletes here. All the selects are executed against the DAL mentioned before (the first solution). The problem here is that i'm not sure whether an HttpContext lifespan ObjectContext is the best solution. I have a lot of ajax calls in my web app and i'm not sure if an httpcontext could interfere with the performance of the application. I've been noticed that in some cases, specially when someone is working in the content manager inserting, updating or deleting, when you try to click on any link of the user web application (the web app that is accessed by any user - the third one that i mentioned before) the web page freezes and it remains stucked transferring data. In order to stop that behaviour you have to stop and refresh or click several times on the link. Excuse me for my bad english. I hope you could understand and could help me to solve this issue. • Automatically resize jQuery UI dialog to the width of the content loaded by ajax

  I'm having a lot of trouble finding specific information and examples on this. I've got a number of jQuery UI dialogs in my application attached to divs that are loaded with .ajax() calls. They all use the same setup call: $(".mydialog").dialog({ autoOpen: false, resizable: false, modal: true }); I just want to have the dialog resize to the width of the content that gets loaded. Right now, the width just stays at 300px (the default) and I get a horizontal scrollbar. As far as I can tell, "autoResize" is no longer an option for dialogs, and nothing happens when I specify it. I'm trying to not write a separate function for each dialog, so .dialog("option", "width", "500") is not really an option, as each dialog is going to have a different width. Specifying width: 'auto' for the dialog options just makes the dialogs take up 100% of the width of the browser window. What are my options? I'm using jQuery 1.4.1 with jQuery UI 1.8rc1. It seems like this should be something that is really easy. EDIT: I've implemented a kludgy workaround for this, but I'm still looking for a better solution.

• Jquery Cluetip - clean up between ajax loaded content

  Hi, I'm using the jquery cluetip plugin and trying to figure out how to remove any open cluetip dialogs once i load new content via ajax. I am either stuck with the dialog boxes still showing on top of new content, or the ways i've tried to fix this actually remove all future cluetip dialogs from showing at all. Here's my code, thanks for any help. • MVC2 Client Validation isn't working when getting form from ajax call

  I'm trying to use MVC2 client-side validation in a partial view that is rendered via $.get. However, the client validation isn't working. I'm not quite sure what the deal is. • Ditching Django's models for Ajax/Web Services

  Recently I came across a problem at work that made me rethink Django's models. The app I am developing resides on a Linux server. Its a simple model/view/controller app that involves user interaction and updating data in the database. The problem is that this data resides in a MS SQL database on a Windows machine. So in order to use Django's models, I would have to leverage an ODBC driver on linux, and the use a python add-on like pyodbc. Well, let me tell you, setting up a reliable and functional ODBC connection on linux is no easy feat! So much so, that I spent several hours maneuvering this on my CentOS with no luck, and was left with frustration and lots of dumb system errors. In the meantime I have a deadline to meet, and suddenly the very agile and rapid Django application is a roadblock rather than a pleasure to work with. Someone on my team suggested writing this app in .NET. But there are a few problems with that: it won't be deployable on a linux machine, and I won't be able to work on it since I don't know ASP.net. Then a much better suggestion was made: keep the app in django, but instead of using models, do straight up ajax/web services calls in the template. And then it dawned on me - what a great idea. Django's models seem like a nuissance and hindrance in this case, and I can just have someone else write .Net services on their side, that I can call from my template. As a result my app will be leaner and more compact. So, I was wondering if you guys ever came across a similar dillema and what you decided to do about it.

• Editing a Gridview row with drop-down lists gets too wide - how can I use popup panels instead?

  I have a series of GridViews in a Tab Panel - databound to a generic List of Business Objects. The problem is that the data is getting long. When in 'display mode', it's fine because the GridView control is smart enough to break some text into multiple lines (in particular Project, Title and Worker names can get pretty long). The problem come in editing mode. Drop-down lists DON'T break entries into multiple lines (for obvious reasons). Going into Edit ode on a row in the Gridview can make the Griview expand horizontally to twice the screen size (blowing through the width limits in the Master page and CSS but that's only a related problem). What I need is something like the ModalPopup - but trying to tie it to an ID in an EditItemTemplate gives me errors when the page renders (because the 'ddlXXXX' doesn't exist at the time). In addition I don't know how to dynamically populate the panel so that I can get a response from it (like the ID of the Company they selected). I'm also trying to avoid javascript and would like this to be a 'pure' aspx/code-behind solution (for simplicity's sake among others). All the examples I find are of Modal Popups with the panels pre-defined. Even if it (the popup panel) were something like a list of checkboxes, it could be databound to the SortedList I have ready to go and an OK/Cancel button combination to accept or ignore things. I'm just not sure of what goes where. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance. • jQuery Ajax load images problem

  I have a code that would call $.load() to get an HTML fragment. In the fragment there will be a list of images and a script that would do some calculation based on the list size. The fragment looks like <div> <ul> <li><img .../></li> <li><img .../></li> ... </ul> </div> <script> //... script to do calculation on the list width </script> Originally, I use css's max-width to ensure that the image would not exceed 180px. But as IE has no max-width, I use the expression hack. However, it seems when the image are first load, the script cannot get a correct width of image list. Seems like the script load earlier than the CSS expression. If it is a new page, I can certainly call $(window).load() to ensure all the images are loaded. But what can I do in an ajax html fragment request?

• jQuery .html not writing span on page load, rights the span on ajax response

  I've got a bit of a calendar I'm building with events that go beyond the boundary of one day. I've got a graph which shows how many events are running concurrently. In order to graph out the events which go into another day, I look for hours24, and run an extra bit of code. jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count', numStaff).html(''+printHour+''+numEvents+' scheduled').css('height',numEvents*5+'px'); The code is working, the li items are being found, proper height is the css is being applied, data is set, which I've checked by running alert(jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count')); right after the pervious bit of code. The only thing that isn't being done is the .html(add span) stuff. I run this code in two places. Once when the page loads, and once when an action is taken which changes the number of events via an ajax response. The li DOM object I'm writting to is created before the script is run, and the height is being applied, but not the span, and only on page load. Any ideas on this one? I'm stumped.

• jQuery.ajax() + empty JSON object = parse error

  I get a parse error when using jQuery to load some JSON data. Here's a snippet of my code: jQuery.ajax({ dataType: "json", success: function (json) { jQuery.each(json, function () { alert(this["columnName"]); }); } }); I get no errors when parsing a non-empty JSON object. So my guess is that the problem is with my serializer. Question is: how do I format an empty JSON object which jQuery won't consider malformed? This is what I've tried so far, with no success: {[]} {[null]} {} {null} {"rows": []} {"rows": null} {"rows": {}} UPDATE: I can understand that I've been somewhat vague--let me try and clarify: Parsing of the JSON object is not the issue here--JQuery is - I think. jQuery throws a parse-error (invokes the error function). It seems like jQuery's internal JSON validation is not accepting any of the before mentioned objects. Not even the valid ones. Output of the error function is: XMLHttpRequest: XMLHttpRequest readyState=4 status=200 textStatus: parsererror errorThrown: undefined This goes for all of the before mentioned objects.

  Hi, I am working on my first MVC application and am running into a bit of a problem. I have a data table that when a row is clicked, I want to return the detail from that row. It does hit the function but nothing is passed to it. So, I have read where you pass the parameter via the data but I have tried every combination I can think of and it never shows up. • Work with AJAX response with DOM methods

  I'm retrieving an entire HTML document via AJAX - and that works fine. But I need to extract certain parts of that document and do things with them. Using a framework (jquery, mootools, etc) is not an option. The only solution I can think of is to grab the body of the HTML document with a regex (yes, I know, terrible) ie. <body>(.*)</body> put that into the current page's DOM in a hidden element, and work with it from there. Is there an easier/better way? Update I've done some testing, and inserting an entire HTML document into a created element behaves a bit differently across browsers I've tested. For example: FF3.5: keeps the contents of the HEAD and BODY tags IE7 / Safari4: Only includes what's between ... Opera 10.10: Keeps HEAD and everything inside it, Keeps contents of BODY The behavior of IE7 and Safari are ideal, but different browsers are doing this differently. Since I'm loading a predetermined HTML document I think I'm going to use the regEx to grab what I want and insert it into a DOM element - unless someone has other suggestions.
