    I wanted to bundle my application in a Debian-Lenny Virtual Machine so others could download it and run it without having to configure anything. However, I don't want to have to worry about US legal issues. Many of the packages in a default Debian installation include encryption algorithms. Are all default versions export-safe?    If not, is there an export-safe version?       If not, is there an easy way to make one?

  • What's the best way to install mod-wsgi for a specific version of python (2.7) on Debian (squeeze)?

    System info: Debian Squeeze Python versions: 2.6.6 (default) & 2.7.2 mod-wsgi: 3.3-2 in /usr/lib/apache2/modules: mod_wsgi.so -> mod_wsgi.so-2.6 mod_wsgi.so-2.5 mod_wsgi.so-2.6 I've a virtualenv configured with Python 2.7 but my application runs 2.6.6, apparently because mod-wsgi is using the default version of the system. The way to go seems to configure mod-wsgi to use 2.7 (i.e. system-wide, not specific to a virtualenv). How can I install mod_wsgi.so-2.7? After installing that, I'll just have to change the symlink mod_wsgi.so to mod_wsgi.so-2.7.

  • How can Yum tell me the version of depencencies?

    I've installed a package with Yum (Varnish 3.0.2). However, a feature I need has been removed so I need to roll back. According to the documentation, the feature was removed in 3.0-Beta, so I wanted to revert to the latest version prior to that. (This is 2.1.5) This is installed now, but there were three RPMs to install for it (from http://users.linpro.no/ingvar/varnish/2.1.5/2.1.5-1/el5/x86_64/). After some faffing about with missing dependencies these got installed. However, the feature I need is still not there. I'm wondering if one of the dependencies is actually from a newer build. Do you know how I can see the versions of all the dependencies of a Yum installed package?

  • How do I change the .NET Framework version of a virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

    I have a website running v2.0 but I want the virtual directory running under it to use v4.0. I've already set the virtual directory as an application and gave it it's own application pool. The server is running Windows Server 2003 SP2 (64-bit). However it has the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag enabled which means the ASP.NET tabs on the properties dialog of the websites/virtual directories are missing. .NET 4.0 is installed, aspnet_regiis -lv lists the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of .NET 2.0 and .NET 4.0 and the Web Server Extensions are enabled. I can't disable the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag to get the ASP.NET tab back, so is there a way to do this from the command line without potentially breaking something? I ran aspnet_regiis -lk to find the paths so I could try aspnet_regiis -sn, but it only returns one record W3SVC/ 2.0.50727.0 (There are 3 separate websites and a virtual directory running on the server though) How can I change the framework version of the virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

  • How do I re-install Unity after uninstalling gnome-shell?

    I am using Ubuntu 14.04. I have big issues with the Unity desktop. I installed then uninstalled gnome-shell (using "apt-get autoremove --purge gnome-shell"). Since then, my desktop has no background and no icons. Plus, and this is the bothering part, unity is very unstable. On startup, there is a huge use of memory, much more than before. Sometimes, I also cannot minimize a window without having the desktop freezing and having to kill the process in question with tty1. I have tried to use : apt-get autoremove --purge ubuntu-desktop apt-get install ubuntu-desktop But it does not change a thing. I tried to update my video drivers but it is still the same. How can I reinstall the unity desktop thoroughly (obviously, something in its install is broken) ? If it is not possible, is it safe that I create a new partition on my disk where I will put my files and reinstall Ubuntu on the old partition (I do have a USB install of Ubuntu 14.04 but not enough space to save my files on it) ?

  • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok.   • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: Error message "Failed to execute child process"

    I am an Ubuntu-newbie and just started working with Ubuntu (version 12.04 LTS) a couple of days ago. I wanted to add a launcher icon to desktop for launching an application I previously installed. Up to now I can only launch it by typing setsid matlab -desktop into my terminal. Now there is the following problem with the execution via the desktop icon: Whenever I click the desktop icon, I get the following error message: "Failed to execute child process" I would like to add a screenshot, but unfortunately as a new user, I am not allowed to... In the main menu from where I added the icon via drag'n'drop to desktop there is also a permission to execute the .desktop file. I also tried to look for advice on the error message "Failed to execute child process..." but could not find anything useful. Now does anybody have an idea what I am missing? Sorry if this is a stupid question ;) ...but as I just said: I just started with Ubuntu... Thanks to everybody in advance for their help! :) And let me know if you should need any more information...   • How to sync Ubuntu/software/configurations between N computers with free software and/or without a cloud?

    Note: this question is not about syncing data in a Dropbox-like way (files, folders), it is more about syncing configurations. I would like to have exactly the same version of Ubuntu with all the software installed and configured both on my Desktop PC and on my Laptop PC (and maybe on my small netbook PC) without using Ubuntu Sync and with minimal maintenance effort (setup once, run for a long time). The use case is the following: I work on my Laptop PC and do some changes to software configuration, for example: configure vim to have a new plugin update the Search Tracker / Recoll file search index configure Thunderbird to have an additional IMAP account ('remember password') add some new bookmarks in Firefox/Chrome change the desktop background image install new software with apt-get install build and install new software with checkinstall etc. I do some 'sync' operation I switch to my Desktop PC and get all the changes from (1) working on the Desktop PC I work on my Desktop PC and do some changes to software configuration, for example: add new directory to the list of directories to be backed up by DejaDup add a new check spelling dictionary to the Libreoffice Writer configure the Terminator software to have colored fonts install new font into the Ubuntu system configure Ekiga to make phone calls etc. I do some 'sync' operation I switch to my Laptop PC and get all the changes from (1) and (4) working on the Laptop PC. Question: What free/open-source software can I use to sync both machines' Ubuntu systems, installed software and configurations? Is it possible to do that without any cloud services? Complementary question: It is obvious that the Desktop PC and the Laptop PC have different hardware configurations. How does the 'sync software' in question deal with video drivers, wlan drivers and their configurations? Note: I do not need all the PCs to be synced at the same time, because I work with only one single machine at once. Note: I considered to use Chef to solve the problem, but it seems that it might be really cumbersome to maintain such a setup. Note: I also considered using a bootable USB with Ubuntu installed (portable Linux), but I am not sure that the video drivers will work then.

    I am attempting to compile/run a sample WCF application from Juval Lowy's website (author of Programming WCF Services & founder of IDesign). The application is an example of a publish/subscribe 'traffic-light' application that requires using VS 2010/.Net 4. This is my first attempt at using anything other than VS 2008/Net 3.5. Initially I recieved the following binding error: "Configuration binding extension 'system.serviceModel/bindings/ netOnewayRelayBinding' could not be found." You can probably derive from the error that I am just trying to convert a ruby variable to java using to_java. This works fine on my windows machine and I have confirmed the gems are the same but I don't think this has to do with gems. I lied. I changed my JAVA_HOME back on my windows machine and this error still occurs. So now the code doesn't run on either machine. I recently installed git on my windows machine and added the code to a repository. But I haven't really done anything with it. All it said was it will convert all LF to CRLF...That shouldn't change anything though should it? Any ideas on why I am now getting these errors? I haven't changed anything on my windows machine in months except for installing git.

  • When I log on to my company desktop, I log on to a domain. How is this domain name installed?

    Hi, When I have to work on my machine in company, I have noticed that I log on to a domain (named on the basis of company name) and not really on that computer. From, what I understand, this has a few advantages, the primary being that I just need one password for the domain and can work through any of the machines in company. My questions are : What software on desktop/network have to be installed so that the desktop recognizes and gives me option of logging into a domain. I would guess that a software can be installed on desktop, and there we can configure the IP address of domain server of company and port number, which handles authentication. Is this correct? This takes me to another question that how are softwares installed on end machines in a company. Going to each machine physically and installing looks very unweildy from administrator point of view. An obvious solution would be to install softwares (and updates) over network. My question on this are: What protocols,keywords come into picture when administrator installs OS,softwares,updates from his administrator machine to end machine through network. Thanks,

    I see that version 2 of MVC.NET now has a RequireHttps attribute, which works great for me. However, what's a good strategy for turning the effect off? For example, I want to use Https on some pages, but regular Http on others. Should I create my own RequireHttp attribute? EDIT: I'm using my own RequireHttp attribute, and it works fine, but I'm wondering if there's some built-in functionality in MVC.NET Version 2 that I'm missing. EDIT 2: I must not have been clear. My question concerns the following: if you use RequireHttps, then any requests after that will be over Https even if the Controller or Action is not decorated with RequireHttps. Unless I'm mistaken, you need a 2nd attribute such as RequireHttp to redirect requests to Http instead of Https.

  • apache pointing to the wrong version of python on ubuntu how do I change?

    I am setting up a flask application on and Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS EC2 instance and everything seemed to be working well (i.e. I could get to the webpage via the publicly available url) until I tried to import a module (e.g. numpy) and realised the apache python differs from the one I used to compile the mod_wsgi and also the one I am using I am running apache2. The apache2 logs show the warnings (specifically the last line shows the path hasnt changed): [warn] mod_wsgi: Compiled for Python/2.7.5. [warn] mod_wsgi: Runtime using Python/2.7.3.     I'm working on a project where we're using Windows Desktop Search (WDS) to index files on a web share and then later allow the user to search via a website for documents in the share. These documents are transferred to the share via FTP, however it would seem that either the computer never goes idle to index or at some point the indexing stops. Is there a way from the command line or within the program itself to force this to happen without having to re-invent the wheel? Using .NET 3.5 and C#.

  • Trash Destination Adapter

    The Trash Destination and this article came from early experiences of using SSIS and community feedback at the time. When developing a package it is very useful to have a destination adapter that does nothing but consume rows with no setup requirement. You often want run a package part way through development, or just add a path so you can set a Data Viewer. There are stock tasks that can be used, but with the Trash Destination all columns are treated as selected automatically (usage type of read-only), so the pipeline knows they are required. It is also obvious that this is for development or diagnostic purposes, and is clearly not a part of the functional design of the package. It is also ideal for just playing around and exploring concepts in SSIS, and is often used in conjunction with the Data Generator Source. Using these two components it is easy to setup a test of an expression in the Derived Column Transformation for example. The Data Generator Source provides some dummy data, and the Trash Destination allows you to anchor the output path and set a Data Viewer to examine the results. It can also be used when performance tuning packages. It is a consistent and known quantity that has no external influences, so it is ideal as a destination when breaking the data flow into sections to isolate a bottleneck. The adapter is really simple to use and requires no setup. Simply drop it onto the pipeline designer and use it to terminate your data flow path. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. Finally, for 2005/2008, you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Trash Destination transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations.   • Cannot add Silverlight Maps Control to Windows Mobile 7 application

    I know the bits just came out today, but one of the first things I want to do with the newly released Windows Mobile 7 SDK is put a map up on the screen and mess around. I've downloaded the latest version of the Silverlight Maps Control and added the references to my application. As a matter of fact, the VS 2010 design view of the MainPage.xaml shows the map control after adding the namespace and placing the control. I'm using the provided VS 2010 Express version that comes with the Win Mobile 7 SDK and have just used the New Project - Windows Phone Application template. When I try to build I get two warnings related to the Microsoft.Maps.MapControl dll's. Warning 1 The primary reference "Microsoft.Maps.MapControl, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=498d0d22d7936b73, processorArchitecture=MSIL" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the framework assembly "System.Windows.Browser, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e" which could not be resolved in the currently targeted framework. "Silverlight,Version=v4.0,Profile=WindowsPhone".   • Is there an offline version of Smush.it available?

    Sometimes I use Smush.it via the YSlow Firefox plugin to non-destructively reduce the file size of JPG images. Is there an offline version available that runs on Windows? And if not is there an alternative? The reason I'd like an offline version is that I'd like to optimize images before I deploy them. Currently Smush.it accepts only public facing URLs for images or a web page (via YSlow) and can't access my internal network. That means I have to deploy, optimize, replace images and deploy again. I'd really like to deploy the optimized images on the first deploy. Update: Here's a very similar question.
