    - by lauthiamkok
    I am trying to make fullscreen images with jquery when the window resize function is triggered. But I get this kind of result - where you can see a gap at the bottom of the image which I don't know how to fix it. the basic html, <!-- container --> <div id="container" class="container"> <div class="holder-supersize" id="supersize"> <ul class="background-supersize"> <li><a href="#"><img src="styles/images/IMG_0250.jpg" alt="" width="1000" height="667" /></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="styles/images/IMG_0255.jpg" alt="" width="667" height="1000" /></a></li> <li class="active"><a href="#"><img src="styles/images/IMG_0323.jpg" alt="" width="1158" height="772" /></a></li> </ul> </div> </div> <!-- container --> jquery for updating image size on window resize, $(document).ready(function(){ $(window).resize(function(){ $(".holder-supersize").each(function() { //Define image ratio & minimum dimensions var minwidth = .5*(640); var minheight = .5*(480); var ratio = 480/640; //Gather browser and current image size var imagewidth = $(this).width(); var imageheight = $(this).height(); var browserwidth = $(window).width(); var browserheight = $(window).height(); //Check for minimum dimensions if ((browserheight < minheight) && (browserwidth < minwidth)){ $(this).height(minheight); $(this).width(minwidth); } else { //When browser is taller if (browserheight > browserwidth){ imageheight = browserheight; $(this).height(browserheight); imagewidth = browserheight/ratio; $(this).width(imagewidth); if (browserwidth > imagewidth){ imagewidth = browserwidth; $(this).width(browserwidth); imageheight = browserwidth * ratio; $(this).height(imageheight); } } //When browser is wider if (browserwidth >= browserheight){ imagewidth = browserwidth; $(this).width(browserwidth); imageheight = browserwidth * ratio; $(this).height(imageheight); if (browserheight > imageheight){ imageheight = browserheight; $(this).height(browserheight); imagewidth = browserheight/ratio; $(this).width(imagewidth); } } } return false; }); }); }); CSS for supersize image /* Supersize -------------------------------------------*/ .holder-supersize { width:100%; height:100%; position:absolute; left:0; top:0; z-index:0; } .background-supersize { width:100%; height:100%; overflow:hidden; position:relative; } .background-supersize li { width:100%; height:100%; overflow:hidden; position:absolute; left:0; top:0; text-align:center; } .background-supersize li img { /* for image with height < width */ /**/ width:100%; height:auto; /* for image with height > width */ /* width:auto; height:100%; */ } .background-supersize li , .background-supersize a, .background-supersize img{ display:none; } .background-supersize .active, .background-supersize .active a, .background-supersize .active img{ display:inline; } This is the link at jsfiddle and this is the link to see the actual product. Any ideas what I have done wrong and how can I fix it?

  • changing img src with JQuery but leave pathing info intact?

    - by Kevin Won
    I'm using JQuery to switch out an image src thusly: $("#myImg").attr("src", "../../new.gif"); notice the relative pathing on the new src. Unfortunately, this isn't portable when I deploy my app. In my MVC app I'm using a ResolveUrl() method that will fix the pathing problem for me so it's portable, but now my JQuery image src swapper doesn't work right since it now switches the correctly resolved path to a broken relative one. <img id="myImg" src="<%=ResolveUrl("~/Images/transparent.gif")%>" /> What I want is for JQuery to just flip the actual filename and leave the path untouched. My first thought would be to // pseudocode javascript jquery on my thought on how to approach this prob var oldFullPath = $('#myImg").GetTheImgSrc; var newFileNameWithPathIntact = someRegexAddNewFileNameWithOldPath $("#myImg").attr("src", newFileNameWithPathIntact); but that seems rather gross and un-JQuery to me. Anyone got a better way?

  • How to stop/override a Jquery TimeOut function?

    - by Tom
    Hi, I have a small jquery snippet that displays notification message at the top of the screen in response to user actions on a page. The notification is often displayed after Ajax actions with dynamic content inside it. For example: $("#mini-txt").html("Thank you!"); $("#mini").fadeIn("fast"); setTimeout(function() {$("#mini").animate({height: "hide", opacity: "hide"}, "medium");}, 3000); The notification works well, except when a user does two or more actions in rapid succession, in which case the TimeOut function will confuse itself and the second message appears to come inside the previous 3000 milliseconds. Is there a way to "kill" the previous notification if a new action is performed. I've got no problem with the actions/selectors, just the TimeOut function.... either stopping it or overriding it somehow. Or perhaps there's a better alternative for getting the message to linger on the screen for a few seconds before disappearing? Thank you.

  • jquery hide all open divs and toggle

    - by Kyle
    I have 2 links and depending on which one they click on want to close all others and show only the information for that link. Example: <div class="shipping-container"> <a href="#" class="ups">Show UPS info</a> <a href="#" class="fedex">Show Fedex info</a> <div class="ups info" style="display:none">the info for ups</div> <div class="fedex info" style="display:none">the info for fedex</div> </div> Any ideas how I can do this with Jquery toggle for clicking one of the links and hide all others if there open. I only want to show info for one shipping method at a time. Also I would like an option for the user to click showall and all of them are displayed, if possible. Thanks in advance....

  • XML jQuery Problem

    - by Llamabomber
    This code for parsing my xml and appending via jquery seems to work great in every browser but Chrome (Mac only, the windows version of chrome works fine) and explorer. I'm not aware of any glaring issues in the code so I thought some fresh eyes might help. Anyone know what could be causing IE and Chrome on the mac to not append? <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(document).ready(function() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "sitenav.xml", dataType: "xml", success: parseXml }); function parseXml(xml) { $(xml).find("GoogleAnalytics").each(function() { $("li#google_analytics").append('<ul><li>' + $(this).find("NavHeader").text() + '</li></ul>'); }); } }); </script>

  • JQuery Validation using Remote posts empty data to webservice

    - by user319721
    I'm using the JQuery Validation plugin. I'm using the remote option to make a call to my webservice to check if a company name exists. The webservice only accepts JSON data. I pass the data to the webservice from the Company Input Field in my Form as follows: data: "{'company': '" + $('#Company').val() + "'}" But this always returns a blank value for company so the response is {'company':''} i.e. correct JSON but missing the Company Input Field value. Can anyone shed some light on why I always get a blank value here? Thanks for the help, Ciaran

  • Fadeout a tiled background image in load using JQuery

    - by user346602
    Hi, I've used JQuery in the past to fade divs in and out successfully. However, I have encountered a situation I can't quite wrap my head around: I am coding a site for a designer who has based the formatting of all the elements on a grid pattern he's created. As he wants the pattern elements to be the same size independent of the browser window, I think I can only do this via a repeating background tiled image in CSS. Now he wants the background pattern (only) to come in dark and fade to very light, while not effecting any of the other elements. Am I right in thinking it's impossible to call a tiled background pattern using a CSS selector? Does anyone have any suggestions of a workaround to this problem?

  • Select list value undefined in $(document).ready

    - by C. Ross
    I have the following code, which I want to load values on a selection change, and also do the selection load initially (since FF 'saves' the last value of the drop down under certain circumstances). The select part of the function works correctly, but for some reason when calling load2 directly the value of $('#select1').value is undefined, even though when I check the DOM in Firebug right after load select1.value has a value. How can I run the load2 function when select1.value is ready? $(document).ready(function() { //Setup change hook $('#select1').change(function(event) { //Remove the old options right away $('#select2').find('option').remove(); //Load the new options load2(this.value); }); //Do load for current value load2($('#select1').value); });

  • jQuery works in FF but not in Safari

    - by Hristo
    I have some event handlers that work in FF and not in Safari. Simply put, I have a list of friends, some hard-coded, some pulled in from a database. Clicking on a buddy opens a chat window... this is much like the Facebook chat system. So in Firefox, everything works normally and as expected. In Safari, clicking on buddies that are hard-coded works fine, but clicking on buddies that are pulled in from the database doesn't pull up the chat window. <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jQuery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/chat.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/ChatBar.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/settings.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var chat = new Chat(); var from = <?php echo "'" .$_SESSION['userid'] . "'"; ?>; chat.getUsers(<?php echo "'" .$_SESSION['userid'] . "'"; ?>); </script> So I load all my buddies with chat.getUsers. That function is: // get list of friends function getBuddyList(userName) { userNameID = userName; $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "buddyList.php", data: { 'userName': userName, 'current': numOfUsers }, dataType: "json", cache: false, success: function(data) { if (numOfUsers != data.numOfUsers) { numOfUsers = data.numOfUsers; var list = "<li><span>Agents</span></li>"; for (var i = 0; i < data.friendlist.length; i++) { list += "<li><a class=\"buddy\" href=\"#\"><img alt=\"\" src=\"images/chat-thumb.gif\">"+ data.friendlist[i] +"</a></li>"; } $('#friend-list ul').append($(list)); } setTimeout('getBuddyList(userNameID)', 1000); } }); } buddyList.php just pulls in the Users from the database and returns an array with the user names. So the jQuery for clicking a buddy is: // click on buddy in #friends-panel $('#friends-panel a.buddy').click(function() { alert("Loaded"); // close #friends-panel $('.subpanel').hide(); $('#friends-panel a.chat').removeClass('active'); // if a chat window is already active, close it and deactivate $('#mainpanel li[class="active-buddy-tab"] div').not('#chat-box').removeAttr('id'); $('#mainpanel li[class="active-buddy-tab"]').removeClass('active-buddy-tab').addClass('buddy-tab'); // create active buddy chat window $('#mainpanel').append('<li class="active-buddy-tab"><a class="buddy-tab" href="#"></a><div id="chat-window"><h3><p id="to"></p></h3></div></li>'); // create name and close/minimize buttons $('.active-buddy-tab div h3 p#to').text($(this).text()); $('.active-buddy-tab div h3').append('<span class="close"> X </span><span class="minimize"> &ndash; </span>'); $('.active-buddy-tab').append('<span class="close"> X </span>'); // create chat area $('.active-buddy-tab div').append('<div id="chat-box"></div><form id="chat-message"><textarea id="message" maxlength="100"></textarea></form>'); // put curser in chat window $('.active-buddy-tab #message').focus(); // create a chat relationship return false; }); ... and the basic structure of the HTML is: <div id="footpanel"> <ul id="mainpanel"> <li id="friends-panel"> <a href="#" class="chat">Friends (<strong>18</strong>) </a> <div id="friend-list" class="subpanel"> <h3><span> &ndash; </span>Friends Online</h3> <ul> <li><span>Family Members</span></li> <!-- Hard coded buddies --> <li><a href="#" class="buddy"><img src="images/chat-thumb.gif" alt="" /> Your Friend 1</a></li> <li><a href="#" class="buddy"><img src="images/chat-thumb.gif" alt="" /> Your Friend </a></li> <!-- buddies will be added in dynamically here --> </ul> </div> </li> </ul> </div> I'm not too sure where to begin solving this issue. I thought it might be a rendering bug or something with the DOM but I've been staring at this code all day and I'm stuck. Any ideas on why it works in FF and not in Safari? btw... I'm testing on Snow Leopard. Thanks, Hristo

  • Sending JSON(jQuery) to PHP and decoding it

    - by dscher
    I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong. It seems like it should be simple because I can't find anyone else with this issue but I can't figure out to send basic data via javascript(jQuery) to PHP and decode it. For the sake of simplicity, this is what I have: JAVASCRIPT var json_data = { "name" : "john doe" }; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../bin/process.php", dataType: "json", data: json_data }); and my PHP FILE $arr = json_decode("json_data", true); $fp = fopen('data.txt', "w"); fwrite($fp, $arr['name']); fclose($fp); The file I'm writing ends up with nothing in it. If I do an: fwrite($fp, 'test'); I get a file with the word test in it but no matter what I do I don't get the json data I sent. Can someone please share a thorough example of A to Z. Thanks for any help.

  • Hiding Options of a Select with JQuery

    - by Syed Abdul Rahman
    Okay, let's start with an example. Keep in mind, this is only an example. <select id = "selection1">     <option value = "1" id = "1">Number 1</option>     <option value = "2" id = "2">Number 2</option>     <option value = "3" id = "3">Number 3</option> </select> Now from here, we have a dropdown with 3 options. What I want to do now is to hide an option. Adding style = "display:none" will not help. The option would not appear in the dropdownlist, but using the arrow keys, you can still select it. Essentially, it does exactly what the code says. It isn't displayed, and it stops there. A JQuery function of $("#1").hide() will not work. Plus, I don't only want to hide the option, I want to completely remove it. Any possibility on doing so? Do I have to use parent/sibling/child elements? If so, I'm still not sure how. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.           Another question - It's related Ok, so I found out that there is a .remove() available in JQuery. Works well. But what if I want to bring it back? if(condition)     {     $(this).remove();     } I can loops this. Shouldn't be complicated. But the thing of which I am trying to do is this: Maximum Capacity of Class: (Input field here) Select Room: (Dropdown here) What I'd like for it to do is to update is Dropdown using a function such as .change() or .keyup. I could create the dropdown only after something is typed. At a change or a keyup, execute the dropdown accordingly. But what I am doing is this: $roomarray = mysql_query("SELECT *     FROM         (         SELECT *,         CASE         WHEN type = 'Classroom' THEN 1         WHEN type = 'Computer laboratory' THEN 2         WHEN type = 'Lecture Hall' THEN 3         WHEN type = 'Auditorium' THEN 4         END AS ClassTypeValue         FROM rooms         ) t     ORDER BY ClassTypeValue, maxppl, roomID"); echo "<select id = \"room\">"; while ($rooms = mysql_fetch_array($roomarray)) { ?> <option value=<?php echo $rooms['roomID']; ?> id=<?php echo $rooms['roomID']; ?>><?php echo $rooms['type']; echo "&nbsp;"; echo $rooms['roomID']; echo "&nbsp;("; echo $rooms['maxppl']; echo ")"; ?></option> <?php } echo "</select>"; Yes, I know it is very messy. I plan to change it later on. But the issue now is this: Can I toggle the removal of the options according to what has been typed? Is it possible to do so with a dropdown made from a loop? Because I sure as hell can't keep executing SQL Queries. Or is that even an option? Because if it's possible, I still think it's a bad one.

  • Grab only 2 items from Jquery Loop

    - by Bry4n
    Here is my Jquery $th.each(function(idx) { var notSelected = $(this).text(); if ((notSelected.indexOf(to) != -1) || (notSelected.indexOf(from) != -1)) { if (idx < 10) { $(this).show(); // and show its corresponding td $td.eq(idx).show(); } } }); It is part of a tableFilter type function for a HTML table. However I want it to only display only 2 of the results. I tried instantiating some kind of index counter but I was unsuccessful. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Get a CSS value from external style sheet with Javascript/jQuery

    - by Acorn
    Is it possible to get a value from the external CSS of a page if the element that the style refers to has not been generated yet? (the element is to be generated dynamically). The jQuery method I've seen is $('element').css('property','value');, but this relies on element being on the page. Is there a way of finding out what the property is set to within the CSS rather than the computed style of an element? Will I have to do something ugly like add a hidden copy of the element to my page so that I can access its style attributes?

  • Jquery code working in all browsers apart from FF

    - by alan
    Hi, I have written the following jquery sitting in the head tags of my HTML It is supposed to bring the image that is being hovered over to full opacity and slide another image over it from the right, then return when un-hovered. <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('ul#img-nav li').css({ "opacity": .5 }); $('ul#img-nav li').hover(function() { $(this).stop(true).animate({"opacity":1}); $(this).children('.overlay').stop(true).animate({"left" : "18px" }); }, function() { $(this).stop(true).animate({"opacity":.5}); $(this).children('.overlay').stop(true).animate({"left" : "180px" }); }); }); This works fine in Safari, Chrome, IE (7,8) but not in FF 3.6. Any suggestions why this might be? Many thanks

  • How to prevent UI from freezing during lengthy process?

    - by OverTheRainbow
    Hello, I need to write a VB.Net 2008 applet to go through all the fixed-drives looking for some files. If I put the code in ButtonClick(), the UI freezes until the code is done: Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click 'TODO Find way to avoid freezing UI while scanning fixed drives Dim drive As DriveInfo Dim filelist As Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String) Dim filepath As String For Each drive In DriveInfo.GetDrives() If drive.DriveType = DriveType.Fixed Then filelist = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(drive.ToString, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, "MyFiles.*") For Each filepath In filelist 'Do stuff Next filepath End If Next drive End Sub Google returned information on a BackGroundWorker control: Is this the right/way to solve this issue? If not, what solution would you recommend, possibly with a really simple example? FWIW, I read that Application.DoEvents() is a left-over from VBClassic and should be avoided. Thank you.

  • Jquery Ajaxform with input type=file and multifile

    - by crunchingnumbers
    Im using ajax form with multifile. However ajaxform just seems to quietly die and does not do anything if using multifile. Multifile is just a jquery plugin that builds a list of input type=file so that you can upload multiple files at once, before which you can add/delete your file upload list. I've looked at multifile and made one change to ensure that it generated a unique name as well as id which it didn't do before and i've checked the form elements multifile is building which all appear to be correct. From looking at ajaxform, it seems that it shoulld just generate the iframe as normal and post the multiple input type=file but it does nothing. Has anyone else experienced problems with multiple input type=file uploads

Okay, so like the title says I'm in need of calling a php function from my index page, which adds a new record in my database as a vote, using JQuery Ajax. This function will return one integer, which will then be printed inside the form button in which it was called from. Anyone have an idea on how I would accomplish this? Any guidance is appreciated!
