• HOWTO: disable jmx in activemq network of brokers (spring, xbean)

  Since I've struggled a lot with this problem, I am posting my solution. Disabling jmx in an activemq network of brokers removes race conditions about the registration of the jmx connector. When starting multiple activemq servers on the same machine: Failed to start jmx connector: Cannot bind to URL [rmi://localhost:1099/jmxrmi]: javax.naming.NameAlreadyBoundException: jmxrmi [Root exception is java.rmi.AlreadyBoundException: jmxrmi] Another problem with this is, that even if you don't cause a race condition, this exception can still occur. Even when starting one broker after another while waiting for them to initialize properly in between. If one process is run by root as the first instance and the other as a normal user, somehow the user process tries to register its own jmx connector, though there already is one. Or another exception which happens when the broker that successfully registered the jmx connector goes down: Failed to start jmx connector: Cannot bind to URL [rmi://localhost:1099/jmxrmi]: javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException [Root exception is java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: localhost; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused] Those exceptions cause the network of brokers to stop working, or to not work at all. The trick to disable jmx was, that jmx had to be disabled in the connectionfactory aswell. The documentation http://activemq.apache.org/jmx.html does not say that this is needed explicitly. • Dojox grid having problem with Contentpane

  the grid appears properly on template's first loading. But when you click the paging button to load flooders.php thru list_result1() only the paging buttons will appear.   I'm trying to create a MarkupExtension to allow filtering of items in an ItemsSource of a HierarchicalDataTemplate. In particular, I'd like to be able to supply a method name that will be executed on the DataContext in order to perform the filtering. I also see the call to the InternalConverter.Convert method, which sees the expected parameters (I see the collection provided by the nested {Binding}) and is successfully able to retrieve the ICollectionView for the incoming collection. The only problem is that FilterInternal never gets called. The template is ultimately being used by a TreeView, if that's relevant. I haven't been able to figure out why the FilterInternal method is not being called and I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some insight.

• Animate button on MouseOver and MouseDown

  I'm making my own ControlTemplate for a standard Button in WPF. I want to change the background of my button when the user hovers over the button with the mouse, but also when the user presses the button (to yet another color). This seems like a common behavior, but I can't get it to work. My template consists of a Border with an Image inside. It is the background color (a gradient really) of the Border that I want to animate. I have triggers in my template that activates animations (storyboards). The MouseOver/Out works just fine. My problem occurs when I press the button. The Press animation runs as it should, and so does the Release animation. But after this the MouseOut will never run. The button gets stuck in the MouseOver state. • CommandBinding broken in inner Custom Control when nesting two Custom Controls of the same type.

  I've done a Custom Control in form of a GroupBox but with an extra header which purpose is to hold a button or a stackpanel with buttons at the other side. I've added the a Dependency Property to hold the extra header and I've connected the customized template. Everything works fine until I put one of these controls in another one. Now the wierd stuff begins(at least in my eyes xP), the command binding in the inner control simply isn't set. I tried to use Snoop to gather some data, the see if the inherits is broken and when I clicked on the buttons which isn't doing what I want it to, boom, breakpoint triggered. So in some wierd way the Command isn't set until something that I don't know what it is, happens, which snoops triggers. I've also tried to put the buttons in the regular Header property and that works fine, but not with my own made. I could just switch places with them to make it like I want but now I'm curious to know where the problem lies... Now I wonder, what can I've missed? If simply pass objects 'as is' that boost throws exception about duplicated pointers. But I'm confused of creating pointers to save objects. The second (2) is a real trouble. If comment out string after (2.1) then boost will corectly load a first Key object (and init internal Door pointer pDoor), but will not init a second Door (d_in) object. After this I have an inited *k_in* object with valid pointer to Door and empty *d_in* object. If use string (2.2) then boost will create two Key and Door objects somewhere in memory and save addresses in pointers. But I want to have two objects *k_in* and *d_in*. So, if I copy a values of memory objects to local variables then I store only addresses, for example, I can write code after (2.2): d_in.id = pD->id; d_in.pKey = pD->pKey; But in this case I store only a pointer and memory object remains in memory and I cannot delete it, because *d_in.pKey* will be unvalid. And I cannot perform a deep copy with operator=(), because if I write code like this: Key &operator==(const Key &k) { if (this != &k) { id = k.id; // call to Door::operator=() that calls *pKey = *d.pKey and so on *pDoor = *k.pDoor; } return *this; } then I will get a something like recursion of operator=()s of Key and Door. How to implement proper serialization of such pointers?

  I'm trying to use backbone.js in my first "real" application and I need some help debugging why certain model change events are not firing as I would expect. I have a web service at /employees/{username}/tasks which returns a JSON array of task objects, with each task object nesting a JSON array of subtask objects.   Using boost::serialization, what's the "best" way to serialize an object that contains cached, derived values in mutable members, such that cached members aren't serialized, but on deserialization, they are initialized the their appropriate default. A definition of "best" follows later, but first an example: class Example { public: Example(float n) : num(n), sqrt_num(-1.0) {} float get_num() const { return num; } // compute and cache sqrt on first read float get_sqrt() const { if(sqrt_num < 0) sqrt_num = sqrt(num); return sqrt_num; } template <class Archive> void serialize(Archive& ar, unsigned int version) { ... } private: float num; mutable float sqrt_num; }; On serialization, only the "num" member should be saved. On deserialization, the sqrt_num member must be initialized to its sentinel value indicating it needs to be computed. What is the most elegant way to implement this? In my mind, an elegant solution would avoid splitting serialize() into separate save() and load() methods (which introduces maintenance problems). One possible implementation of serialize: template <class Archive> void serialize(Archive& ar, unsigned int version) { ar & num; sqrt_num = -1.0; } This handles the deserialization case, but in the serialization case, the cached value is killed and must be recomputed. Also, I've never seen an example of boost::serialize that explicitly sets members inside of serialize(), so I wonder if this is generally not recommended. • Architecture for Qt SIGNAL with subclass-specific, templated argument type

  I am developing a scientific data acquisition application using Qt. Since I'm not a deep expert in Qt, I'd like some architecture advise from the community on the following problem: The application supports several hardware acquisition interfaces but I would like to provide an common API on top of those interfaces. Each interface has a sample data type and a units for its data. So I'm representing a vector of samples from each device as a std::vector of Boost.Units quantities (i.e. std::vector<boost::units::quantity<unit,sample_type> >). I'd like to use a multi-cast style architecture, where each data source broadcasts newly received data to 1 or more interested parties. Qt's Signal/Slot mechanism is an obvious fit for this style. So, I'd like each data source to emit a signal like typedef std::vector<boost::units::quantity<unit,sample_type> > SampleVector signals: void samplesAcquired(SampleVector sampleVector); for the unit and sample_type appropriate for that device. Since tempalted QObject subclasses aren't supported by the meta-object compiler, there doesn't seem to be a way to have a (tempalted) base class for all data sources which defines the samplesAcquired Signal. In other words, the following won't work: template<T,U> //sample type and units class DataSource : public QObject { Q_OBJECT ... public: typedef std::vector<boost::units::quantity<U,T> > SampleVector signals: void samplesAcquired(SampleVector sampleVector); }; The best option I've been able to come up with is a two-layered approach: template<T,U> //sample type and units class IAcquiredSamples { public: typedef std::vector<boost::units::quantity<U,T> > SampleVector virtual shared_ptr<SampleVector> acquiredData(TimeStamp ts, unsigned long nsamples); }; class DataSource : public QObject { ... signals: void samplesAcquired(TimeStamp ts, unsigned long nsamples); }; The samplesAcquired signal now gives a timestamp and number of samples for the acquisition and clients must use the IAcquiredSamples API to retrieve those samples. Obviously data sources must subclass both DataSource and IAcquiredSamples. The disadvantage of this approach appears to be a loss of simplicity in the API... it would be much nicer if clients could get the acquired samples in the Slot connected. Being able to use Qt's queued connections would also make threading issues easier instead of having to manage them in the acquiredData method within each subclass. One other possibility, is to use a QVariant argument. This necessarily puts the onus on subclass to register their particular sample vector type with Q_REGISTER_METATYPE/qRegisterMetaType. Not really a big deal. Clients of the base class however, will have no way of knowing what type the QVariant value type is, unless a tag struct is also passed with the signal. I consider this solution at least as convoluted as the one above, as it forces clients of the abstract base class API to deal with some of the gnarlier aspects of type system. So, is there a way to achieve the templated signal parameter? Is there a better architecture than the one I've proposed?

I'm mystified because the result of transformToXML is false, but the result of libxml_get_errors() is an empty array. As you can see, the code outputs the LibXSLT version ID and I'm getting the problem on WinVista with version 1.1.24. Is libxml_get_errors() not the right function to get the errors from the XSLTProcessor object?   I am using the below piece of XSL to select the id of the text nodes whose content has a given index. This index value in input will be relative to a spcified node whose id value is known. The criteria to select the text node is, The text node content should contain a index say 'i' relative to node say 'n' whose id value i know. 'i' and 'id of n' is got as index and nodeName from the input param as seen in the xsl. Node 'd1e5' has the text content whose index ranges from 1 to 33. • Y my interface is not showing when i run the project

• Blogger issue with custom background images on Chrome and Safari

  This is weird, the site in question is blog.andrebatista.info and it is a hosted at blogger.com. I'm trying to make the blogger template look the same as the one in my main website, www.andrebatista.info. For some reason if I go directly to the blog address Chrome and Safari fail to display all of my background images... all of them. However if I first go to www.andrebatista.info first and then go to the blog it renders just fine ?¿ The way I'm customizing it is by adding a link to my main site's stylesheet at the very end of the head tag on the blogger template.
