  It looks like I'm missing something. When using Jython to run my Python code in Java, Java bytecode files are generated (test.py - [email protected]). Can I run these classes directly using java? In other words, I want to make this: $ java test@py [additional cp args] work. The intent: writing Python code and not having to give away source code.

• Odd ActiveRecord model dynamic initialization bug in production

  I've got an ActiveRecord (2.3.5) model that occasionally exhibits incorrect behavior that appears to be related to a problem in its dynamic initialization. Here's the code: class Widget < ActiveRecord::Base extend ActiveSupport::Memoizable serialize :settings VALID_SETTINGS = %w(show_on_sale show_upcoming show_current show_past) VALID_SETTINGS.each do |setting| class_eval %{ def #{setting}=(val); self.settings[:#{setting}] = (val == "1"); end def #{setting}; self.settings[:#{setting}]; end } end def initialize_settings self.settings ||= { :show_on_sale => true, :show_upcoming => true } end after_initialize :initialize_settings # All the other stuff the model does end The idea was to use a single record field (settings) to persist a bunch of configuration data for this object, but allow all the settings to seamlessly work with form helpers and the like. (Why this approach makes sense here is a little out of scope, but let's assume that it does.) Net-net, Widget should end up with instance methods (eg #show_on_sale= #show_on_sale) for all the entires in the VALID_SETTINGS array. Any default values should be specified in initialize_settings. And indeed this works, mostly. In dev and staging, no problems at all. But in production, the app sometimes ends up in a state where a) any writes to the dynamically generated setters fail and b) none of the default values appear to be set - although my leading theory is that the dynamically generated reader methods are just broken. The code, db, and environment is otherwise identical between the three. My leading theory is that something is going wrong in instance initialization wherein the class instance variable settings is ending up as a string rather than a hash. This explains both the above setter failure (:show_on_sale is being used to index into the string) and the fact that getters don't work (an out of bounds [] call on a string just returns nil). But then how and why might settings occasionally end up as a string rather than hash?

• Authlogic OpenID: Fetching E-Mail from Provider.

  This is a really weird problem: I have set up the authlogic_openid_selector_example app. When i register, the email id is not returned by the openid provider the first time. But if i delete the account and register again, the email id is returned. But this doesn't seem to be happening in the example hosted here: http://big-glow-mama.heroku.com/. How do i fix this problem? Has this got to do with caching? I have hosted my version of the app here: http://pingauthtest.heroku.com/ I guess the author of authlogic_openid_selector_example app (@holden) has forgotten to commit new changes. :) I looked at my development log and the first time the provider doesn't return the openid.ext1.value.ext0 which contains the email id. This is returned the second time only after having deleted the account first. • How to automount SMB shared network drives in Mac OS X Lion

  In Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) Apple has replaced good old SMB support. Now I can't auto connect to my shared (SMB) network drives. Workarounds? Or Impossible? In OS X Snow Leopard, I could automatically connect my Ubuntu (SMB) shared network drives with auto_smb / auto_master (autofs configuration in /private/etc/). I made three mount points (folders) directly in '/Volumes', I used /Volumes/Data and /Volumes/webroot (both SMB shared). Unfortunately Lion doesn't connect (automount) my network drives. I have to manually connect to the server (Ubuntu file server) in Finder, then open up Terminal to navigate to the mount points, and then it connects. This is not a workable solution. I've searched (Google/SO) but found no solutions apart from an unsupported hack. Isn't it possible any more to automatically connect to an SMB-shared drive during startup?

• How do I get grep color in the file names before each match?

  If I run grep -ir "somethingtomatch" . from the current directory, I typically get results like this: ./some/path/file1.html: filecontent filecontent keyword filecontent ./some/path/file2.html: filecontent filecontent filecontent keyword ./some/path/file3.html: filecontent keyword filecontent filecontent ./some/path/file4.html: keyword filecontent filecontent filecontent I used grep --color=auto -ir 'somethingtomatch" . but it only highlights the keywords in white on a red highlight. I'm trying to get file names on the left color-coded too. How do I do that? I'm using Terminal.app in OS X with bash and xterm (and I tried xterm-color too).

• Getting a full list of the URLS in a rails application

I don't want the routes that I get get form rake routes, instead I want to get the actul URLs corrosponding to all the dynmically generated pages in my application... Is this even possible?   We are considering a change of email servers and Kerio Connect is attractive. However, I am concerned about calendaring functionality. I found an old forum post that states the question well: "We want to create a single public calendar that everyone can see - using Windows XP/Outlook 2003/KOC 6.4.1. We want a way for people to put an entry in their own personal calendar and some how mark it so the entry auto add's or syncs with the public one. If an entry is private it wouldn't sync to the shared public calendar... Has anyone ever heard of a way to do this - in any way with any software?" This is a high priority feature, so if Kerio cannot do this, we may consider Exchange. Does Exchange provide functionality like that described?

• Unable to Get IIS Response Times with Hyperic Monitoring Tool

  We have a very large .NET application (vendor) that I am trying to gather performance metrics for using Hyperic. In general I wanted to be able to report response times for each of the components within the application, which include: Web Services ASP.NET Pages MSMQ I am currently unable to successfully monitor the response times for IIS on my windows machines. I have successfully auto-discovered them and I am getting diagnostic information, but am not getting back the response times. After looking online at what other people are seeing, I found that I am missing a tab for the response times which is usually next to the metrics tab. Also, when I look at the configuration screen for IIS I do not see a field which enables me to specify where the log files are located at. Please note that my logs are located at e:\LogFiles\ instead of the usual location because our IT staff doesn't allocate much space for the C: drive. Please note that I have the MSMQ monitors up and running great. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy

  greetings all my application uses spring framework,spring security 3.0.2 we use apache tomcat as app server the problem is that with each new request to the application a new jsessionid is generated and a new session is created so the user is logged out and that's weird,why generating new jsessionid,how to stop that? i reviewed the code,nothing is creating a new session? is it a framework problem or app server problem or what? your help is very appreciated. thank you.

  Upgrading my network to gigabit speeds and don't know how to determine if the NIC in one of the systems is capable of gigabit speed. The documentation from the manufacturer states this: Network adapter 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN on system board However when I go to the properties of the NIC under Speed & Duplex my only options are: 10 Mb Full 10 Mb Half 100 Mb Full 100 Mb Half Auto Is there a command line I can run that will give me more detail about the NIC? Windows 7 x64 OS New Info: The new switch I just bought has a light to indicate 1000Mbps. I can tell from the light that this NIC is indeed negotiating at 1000Mbps but I'd still like to know how to determine this from the console in windows.

Initially it wasn't a thread, it was a timer event that updated the hour, minutes and seconds but I have changed it to a thread because the application do some hard work when the user press a start button and then the clock don't update so I changed it to a thread. • asp.net not deserializing soap response

  Hi all, I have been given a wsdl and have used wsdl.exe to create my proxy classes. I am able to call the function to initiate the request with some valid parameters and this returns my response object which is always EMPTY. When i inspect the soap message response using fiddler the soap does have valid data that should be deserialzed to the proxy classes. Can i manually intercept the derserializing call of the proxy classes generated by wsdl and check that .net is correctly derializing the soap response? Thank you

• How can I translate Linux keycodes from /dev/input/event* to ASCII in Perl?

  I'm writing a Perl script that reads data from the infamous /dev/input/event* and I didn't find a way to translate the key codes generated by the kernel into ASCII. I'm talking about the linux key codes in this table here and I can't seem to find something that would help me translate them without hardcoding an array into the script. Am I missing something? I'd like to skip the array part because it doesn't seem to be a good practice, so any idea? :)
