• How to stop an IOException error using whilst using a combination of jython, pyro and ant?

  So the wonderful low down on this doozie of a problem: short version: We are building a distribution system for this item of software we're using. Basically we take out build artifact, store it on an ftp server which passes it to multiple clients which execute scripts to patch their servers. Long version: 1 distribution server multiple client servers software: jython 2.5.1, ant 1.8.0, pyro 3.10 The distribution server has an FTP server and a PYRO client running on it. Each client server has a PRYO server running on it. When the PYRO client is told to start the patch procedure then it reads a machine list which contains a list of all the client servers. Then connects to each of the PYRO servers one by one and execute the patch procedure. The procedure is: getPatch (gets the latest patch for that server), StopServer (stops the software that may or maynot be accessing what needs to be patched), Apply patch, StartServer. Each of the processes calls an ANT script that passes with some folder names and other config passes around. The fun part happens when you go to apply the patch. See below for error log. I had to remove the folder names because of NDA reasons. This is where it gets interesting. Running each section of the procedure individually. i.e. running getPatch, StopServer, etc. one at a time manually. This bug doesn't happen. Physically goign to the machine and running the processes it doesn't happen. Only when we call all 4 of the processes one after the other. It occurs during the ApplyPatch phase when an ANT replace script is called on multiple files. We think it might have something to do with the JVM keeping hold of the file for a split second or 2. however this is meant to have been patched according to the bug notes on ant. so in short: • AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll files deleted

  I'm using the ASP.NET Ajax toolkit. In addition to the AjaxControlToolkit.dll in my bin directory, I have language directories named es, de, fr, etc... The single file, the AjaxControlToolkit.resources.dll disappears from these directories every once in a while - I can't figure out why. I manually copy them back, but I've purposely done rebuild and clean solutions and they are still there. Somewhere during my normal course of work, when I'm not looking, they're gone. Any clues?

• WCF app Deployed on Win7 Machine and get connection refused error

  I have created a Sync Framework application based on the following sample from microsoft and deployed it to a new Windows 7 machine for testing. The app runs ok but when I attempt to communicate I get the following error: Could not connect to http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8000. I am wondering if there is something I am missing. This is my first experience using WCF and followed microsoft sample code. I have disabled the firewall and opened port 8000 for both TCP and UDP. Not sure what to look at next. • EMERGENCY - Major Problems After Perl Module Installed via WHM

  I attempted to install the perl module Net::Twitter::Role::API::Lists using WHM and after doing so my whole site came down. It seems that something that was updated with the install isn't functioning correctly and since our website it written in Perl none of our site scripts will run. In almost 8 years of working with Perl I've never had any issues arise after installing a perl module so I have no idea how to even start troubleshooting. The error I see when trying to compile any of our Perl scripts is below. I'd appreciate any advice on what might be wrong and steps on how I can go about resolve it. Thanks in advance for your help!   Hi, I need to move all my sites on a server with IIS 6 to another one, that has same OS (Windows Server 20003) and same IIS version. I'm trying to understand which is the best way to do it. Searching on Google I've found that there are at least 2 methods, one uses IIS Migration Tool, and another Web Deployment Tool. I don't know which method is best, it also seems that both methods can export one site at once, and I have about 100 sites hosted. What would you do?

• InteropServices COMException when executing a .net app from a web CGI script on Windows Server 2003

  Disclaimer: I'm completely clueless about .net and COM. I have a vendor's application that appears to be written in .net and I'm trying to wrap it with a web form (a cgi-bin Perl script) so I can eventually launch this vendor's app from a separate computer. I'm on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SE SP1 system and I'm using Apache 2.2 for the web server and ActivePerl 5.10.0.1004 for the cgi script. My cgi script calls the vendor's app that resides on the same machine using the Perl backtick operator. ... $result = "Result: " . `$vendorsPath/$vendorsExecutable $arg1 $arg2`; ... Right now I'm just running IE web browser locally on the server machine and accessing "http://localhost/cgi-bin/myPerlScript.pl". The vendor's app fails and logs a debug message that includes the following stack trace (I changed a couple names so as to not give away the vendor's identity): ... This problem is likely security related because the whole thing runs just fine on a Windows XP Pro machine (both command line and web invocation). I actually developed my web script there and got it completely working there before I tried moving it to the Windows Server 2003 machine. So what's different about the Windows Server 2003 machine that would keep the vendor's .net app from being executed successfully by a web cgi script? Can I fix this problem somehow to make it work on my server or will the vendor have to make a change to their .net app and ship out a new version? I'm probably the only person in the world who is trying to execute this vendor's app from a separate program, so I hate to bother the vendor with the issue if there's a workaround that I can implement myself here on my server machine. Plus, I'm in kind of a hurry and I don't want to wait 4 or 6 months for the vendor to put in a fix and deploy a new version. Thanks for any advise you can give.

  I use Redmine on Mongrel as a project manager and I use a batch file (start-redmine.bat) to start the redmine in mongrel. There are 2 issues with my setup: 1. I have a running IIS on the server that occupies the HTTP port (80) 2. The start-redmine.bat must be periodically checked to see if it's stopped after a restart that is caused by windows update service. for the first issue, I have no choice but running mongrel on a port like 3000 and for the second issue I have to create a windows service that runs automatically in the background when the windows starts; and here comes the trouble! There are at least 3 ways to run redmine as a service that I'm aware of; none of them can satisfy a performance view on this subject. you may read about them on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/877943/how-to-configure-a-rails-app-redmine-to-run-as-a-service-on-windows I tried them all. The easiest way to setup such a service is using mongrel_service approach; in 3 lines of command you're done. but the performance is significantly lower than running that batch file... Now, I wanna show you my approach: First suppose we have ruby installed into c:\ruby and we have issued the command gem install mongrel to get the mongrel gem installed into c:\ruby\bin Also, suppose we have installed the Redmine into a folder like c:\redmine; and we have ruby's path (i.e. c:\ruby\bin) in our PATH environment variable. Now Download and install the Windows NT Resource Kit Tools from microsoft website. Open the command-line tool that comes with the Resource Kit (from start menu). Use instsrv to install a dummy service called Redmine using the following command: "[path-to-instsrv.exe]\instsrv" Redmine "[path-to-srvany.exe]\srvany.exe" in my case (which is the default case) it was something like this: "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\instsrv" Redmine "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\srvany.exe" Now create the batch file. Open a notepad and paste these instructions into it and then save it as "c:\redmine\start-redmine.bat" @echo off cd c:\redmine\ mongrel_rails start -a 0.0.0.0 -p 3000 -e production Now we need to configure that dummy service we had created before. My application uses a database that I'm currently storing in SQL Server. This works fine while I'm coding since I created the database manually on my computer. I see that VS2008 has created an .exe in my bin/debug folder, but how do I ensure that any new users (that doesn't already have the database) doing a fresh install gets the database also?

• Google's Search Box in SharePoint

  Has anyone here looked at the Google Search Box for SharePoint? We're looking into it as part of our MOSS deployment since we also use Google's GSA, and I'm personally not impressed with it, while a colleague seems to think that it's the only option we should be using, or even considering. While I've got no problems with the GSA indexing our SharePoint content, the Search Box just seems clumsy. It looks horrible, the results being returned are much more limited than what I get if I use the GSA search page itself, configuring it has been nothing but a PITA and it's still only got a basic config ans isn't respecting things like user permissions or search scopes that the default SharePoint Indexer and search controls handle out of the box. What are your guys thoughts? Am I being overly critical, and should just spend more time trying to configure it? Are you using a split-personality with it yourself, where you have the GSA for enterprise wide search, but use SharePoint for local searches? Other thoughts?

• Problem using psexec to remotely GAC a file

  As part of a deployment process I am trying to GAC a series of files. The actual build process occurs on a build server, and I am trying to use psexec to GAC the files on whichever machine has requested the build. The current line I am trying to execute is: C:\PsToolspsexec.exe \COMPUTER -u USER -p PASS gacutil.exe -i Assembly.dll -f The error that I am getting back is: Failure adding assembly to the cache: The system cannot find the file specified. So apparently the dll reference is on the remote box, and unfortunately the dll is sitting on the build box. Is there any way to just do this with psexec somehow, or do I need to copy it to some temporary location on the \\COMPUTER? I know there are commands to copy the executable as part of the psexec process, but I can't seem to find anything similar for supporting files.

• Sysprep failling after reboot into OOBE

  I'm trying to configure an image for deployment to other machines. I've configured the machine, then I run sysprep, choose generalize and OOBE. Sysprep does its thing, then reboots. Then when 'setup is starting services', I get a 'Windows could not finish configuring the system', and it advises to reboot and try again, which presents the same error. I've tried uninstalling symantec endpoint antivirus, but this does not prevent the issue. Where should I look for what is causing the problem? Is there a logfile?
