  Just recently installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my Samsung N130 netbook, and left-clicking only works every once in a while. Here is the output from synclient, if it helps. Before changing MaxTapTime to 0, tapping to click worked fine. Clicking with hardware button worked fine on previous versions of Ubuntu before switching to Lubuntu on same computer. • What kinds of projects is SCRUM considered to be suitable for?

  Is SCRUM considered by its proponents a general-purpose software development methodology or is it considered especially suited for certain categories of projects or application areas? For example, I recently looked at the website of a company producing software for the aerospatial industry and noticed that they are using the V-model. Would a SCRUM proponent say that SCRUM is not suited for this kind of projects or rather suggest that this company should try switching to SCRUM? Notice that I am not asking for the opinion of the readers of this forum, but I want to know what is the established opinion among SCRUM proposers: is SCRUM considered general-purpose or rather suitable for certain classes of projects only? In the latter cases, for what kinds of projects?

• What is SOA ?

  First, let’s mention what SOA is not: • SOA is not the same thing as web services. Web Services implies the use of standard such as Java/JAX-RPC, .NET or REST. Web Services also implies the use of a WSDL, SOAP, and/or J2EE Connector Architecture (J2EE CA) and HTTP. SOA architectures can be implemented using J2EE CA, XML file transfer or Remote Procedural Call (RPC) over File Transfer Protocol (FTP), TCP/IP, Remote Method Invocation (RMI) or other protocols. In other words, Web Services are a very specific set of technologies. SOA is a concept and can be implemented in many different ways. Some very rudimentary, such as transfering flat files between applications. • SOA will not solve all of your problems. It will make your business more agile, increase business visibility, reduce integration costs and provide better reuse. However, if you don’t need help in these area or expect SOA to cure all of your IT problems, you are looking in the wrong place. • The concepts behind SOA are not new, but SOA is also not mature. SOA as it stands today has really only been around for 5 years. The concepts of standards based protocol handlers, predefined communication schemas and remote method invocation have been around for decades. So, what is SOA? SOA is an architectural blueprint, a way of developing applications, and a set of best practices. SOA is not an ‘out of the box’ solution you buy, install and then have up and running in a matter of months. SOA is a journey to a better way of doing business and the technology architecture to support this better way of doing business. SOA is also a broader set of technologies including more then just web services. Techologies like an Enterpirse Service Bus (ESB), Business Processs Execution Language (BPEL), message queues and Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) all are part of a SOA architecture. • Is there a good reference manual for ruby/rails?

  I've found switching from Java to Ruby/Rails to be very difficult. I feel like the rails books and websites that I've seen are program by example, and I have yet to see anything like a complete reference. In the java/spring world there is plenty of examples but also very thorough reference manuals. So even though I can get toy application xyz up and running in an afternoon with rails I'm apprehensive about doing anything of significance. I'm willing to admit that maybe this is because I've done java/spring for a few years and have near zero experience with ruby/rails. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this or if I'm missing something.

You can see your wireless access point, but you cannot establish a connection. You want to analyze the problem, but you don't know where to start or what information you can provide. • Pendrive USB Ubuntu installation - black screen on boot

  I see many posts on this, but no solution. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my 16GB USB flash drive using this official link using their tool Universal USB Installer. Installation to USB went fine so I set my laptop to boot from USB and the Ubuntu was recognized. I saw the usual boot screen and I chose option "Run Ubuntu from this USB". The boot process started and after 5-6 seconds the screen goes black and non-responsive. I thought that it hang on X loading so I tried switching to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 but the system did not respond. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong? PS. My laptop is HP Pavillion G6

  I'm trying out Gnome Shell in 11.04. You can push the "activities" key to get into the overview where you can launch applications. I like the idea of the overview as an aid in switching focus, but it's too slow for just launching an application. Is Gnome Shell going to implement, or does it have, a way to launch applications (besides the alt-f2 command launcher) that is as quick as Gnome-do? edit: To be clear, I'm aware of several Gnome application launchers. I'm curious about the Gnome Shell and any packages it includes (not add-ons like Gnome-do or Synapse).

• Ubuntu 12.04 - Swiching Multiple Windows from a Program

  I'm having problem switching multiple windows from a same program. For example, if I have 2 windows opened for firefox at the same time and I wanted to switch from one another, it used to display a 2 small grid preview for each session when I click on the icon. However, that function doesn't seem to be working on my ubuntu 12.04 now. It doesn't response when I click on the firefox (or other application) icon in the sidebar. Does anyone know how to fix this? By the way, I know ALT-TAB can switch windows too, but it's hard to switch if I have 7 pdf documents opened at the same time. So I really wish to have this feature fixed. Thanks in advance.

  I'm using XFCE on a dual monitor setup, with Xorg configured to separate X screens (neither twinview nor cinerama is working on GF470 with latest nvidia drivers). I'm not using xrandr. Suppose I have firefox running on one screen (:0.0) and thunderbird on the other (:0.1). When I want to switch focus from thunderbird to firefox, I need to move my mouse pointer to the firefox window and click (alt-tab switches between windows on a single screen only). Is there any keyboard shortcut for switching focus between screens?

• Is there a library that handles hexagon tiled 2D maps?

  It would represent a map that is semi-square of arbitrary size. It would have a simple system for representation of the map coordinates such as 0101 (first column, 1st hex). I'd want the map to be able to tell me the distance between two points, and what other hexes lay between those two points as a list or array. I don't care as much about the language but c# or python would be ideal. Does one exist?
