• Using AppFabric session state provider, does each session get its own region?

  I've been playing around with AppFabric Beta 2's session state provider. It appears that each new session get its own region (named "Default_Region_XXXX" (where XXXX is an apparent random sequence of numbers). If I understand regions correctly, it appears that each region is tied to a single cluster host, leaving a single point of failure. Why is each session being given it own region? Also, do sessions eventually timeout and clean themselves up in the cache or is that behavior just inherited from the cache settings? I'm wondering (if in a production application scenario), if one would use a separate named cache for session state apart from other application caches? Thanks.

  I am working on something like this: On a webpage, there is an article wrapped in a DIV, an Edit button. When a user click on the Edit button, insert an textarea via javascript, load the html of the DIV into the textarea, load and initial tinymce. When the user click on the Save button, save and update the article via ajax, and destroy tinymce completely. The problem is that, I failed to destroy tinymce completely. When the user click on the Edit button again, a new tinymce instance will load while the old instance is just hidden. BTW, I am using the jQuery version of tinymce

• How to ThinApp a Database Application & SQL Server 2005

  To make it easier for potential clients to try out our software without having to go to the trouble of installing SQL Server, a test database, setting up an ODBC connection and so on, we want to package the whole thing with VMWare ThinApp. Ideally, there'd be a single executable and all the user would have to do is run it. I've been reading up on ThinApp on the VMWare website but am still unsure how to go about doing this. Is the correct approach to put SQL Server and the application in separate packages, reverting to a clean version of the virtual enviroment prior to each packaging? That seems somewhat problematic because the app needs the DBMS to run, as well as an ODBC connection. Like I said, we'd prefer to go with a single package (package = executable?), but two executables are also acceptable if an alternative can't be found. I realize that the same result can probably be achieved by way of a custom SQL Server Express installation but ThinApp looks like a better and more elegant solution.

  Hello, all day long I am sitting and trying to find out why binding to AvalonEdits Document property isn't working. AvalonEdit is an advanced WPF text editor - part of the SharpDevelop project.(it's going to be used in SharpDevelop v4 Mirador). So when I set up a simple project - one TextEditor (that's the AvalonEdits real name in the library) and made a simple class that has one property - Document and it returns a dummy object with some static text the binding is working perfectly. However in real life solution I'm binding a collection of SomeEditor objects to TabControl. • iphone - UITapGestureRecognizer problem

  I have two UIImageViews one as subview of the other. The subview is smaller and is centered on the screen. Both have UITapGestureRecognizer assigned and both were intended to respond to single taps. A single tap on the main view (= the area outside the subview) is fine, but a tap inside the subview is seen as the main view as a tap too. How can I have this to work independently? both views have setCancelsTouchesInView and setDelaysTouchesEnded set to NO and both have the same delegate (yes, I need to have the same delegate and cannot change that). How may I force the main view to ignore any tap on the area that belongs to its subview? thanks for any help.

  Hi All, I'm currently struggling with this "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" issue. I have searched about this error message, and it's all related to the foreach statement. I do have the some foreach statements, but they are just simply representing the data. I did not using any remove or add inside the foreach statement. NOTE: The error randomly happens (about 4-5 times a day). The application is the MVC website. There are about 5 users operate this applications (about 150 orders a day). Could it be some another users modified the collection, and then occur this error? • How to export SSIS to Microsoft Excel without additional software?

  This question is long winded because I have been updating the question over a very long time trying to get SSIS to properly export Excel data. I managed to solve this issue, although not correctly. Aside from someone providing a correct answer, the solution listed in this question is not terrible. The only answer I found was to create a single row named range wide enough for my columns. In the named range put sample data and hide it. SSIS appends the data and reads metadata from the single row (that is close enough for it to drop stuff in it). The data takes the format of the hidden single row. This allows headers, etc. WOW what a pain in the butt. It will take over 450 days of exports to recover the time lost. However, I still love SSIS and will continue to use it because it is still way better than Filemaker LOL. My next attempt will be doing the same thing in the report server. Original question notes: If you are in Sql Server Integrations Services designer and want to export data to an Excel file starting on something other than the first line, lets say the forth line, how do you specify this? I tried going in to the Excel Destination of the Data Flow, changed the AccessMode to OpenRowSet from Variable, then set the variable to "YPlatters$A4:I20000" This fails saying it cannot find the sheet. The sheet is called YPlatters. I thought you could specify (Sheet$)(Starting Cell):(Ending Cell)? Update Apparently in Excel you can select a set of cells and name them with the name box. This allows you to select the name instead of the sheet without the $ dollar sign. Oddly enough, whatever the range you specify, it appends the data to the next row after the range. Oddly, as you add data, it increases the named selection's row count. Another odd thing is the data takes the format of the last line of the range specified. My header rows are bold. If I specify a range that ends with the header row, the data appends to the row below, and makes all the entries bold. if you specify one row lower, it puts a blank line between the header row and the data, but the data is not bold. Another update No matter what I try, SSIS samples the "first row" of the file and sets the metadata according to what it finds. However, if you have sample data that has a value of zero but is formatted as the first row, it treats that column as text and inserts numeric values with a single quote in front ('123.34). I also tried headers that do not reflect the data types of the columns. I tried changing the metadata of the Excel destination, but it always changes it back when I run the project, then fails saying it will truncate data. If I tell it to ignore errors, it imports everything except that column. Several days of several hours a piece later... Another update I tried every combination. A mostly working example is to create the named range starting with the column headers. Format your column headers as you want the data to look as the data takes on this format. In my example, these exist from A4 to E4, which is my defined range. SSIS appends to the row after the defined range, so defining A4 to E68 appends the rows starting at A69. You define the Connection as having the first row contains the field names. It takes on the metadata of the header row, oddly, not the second row, and it guesses at the data type, not the formatted data type of the column, i.e., headers are text, so all my metadata is text. If your headers are bold, so is all of your data. I even tried making a sample data row without success... I don't think anyone actually uses Excel with the default MS SSIS export. If you could define the "insert range" (A5 to E5) with no header row and format those columns (currency, not bold, etc.) without it skipping a row in Excel, this would be very helpful. From what I gather, noone uses SSIS to export Excel without a third party connection manager. Any ideas on how to set this up properly so that data is formatted correctly, i.e., the metadata read from Excel is proper to the real data, and formatting inherits from the first row of data, not the headers in Excel? One last update (July 17, 2009) I got this to work very well. One thing I added to Excel was the IMEX=1 in the Excel connection string: "Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1". This forces Excel (I think) to look at all rows to see what kind of data is in it. Generally, this does not drop information, say for instance if you have a zip code then about 9 rows down you have a zip+4, Excel without this blanks that field entirely without error. With IMEX=1, it recognizes that Zip is actually a character field instead of numeric. And of course, one more update (August 27, 2009) The IMEX=1 will succeed importing data with missing contents in the first 8 rows, but it will fail exporting data where no data exists. So, have it on your import connection string, but not your export Excel connection string. I have to say, after so much fiddling, it works pretty well.

  node.js looks interesting BUT... I must miss something - isn't node.js tuned only to run on a single process & thread? Then how does it scale for multi-core CPUs and multi-CPU servers? After all, it is all great to make fast as possible single-thread server, but for high loads I would want to use several CPUs. And the same goes for making applications faster - seems today the way is use multiple CPUs and parallelize the tasks. How does node.js fit into this picture? Is its idea to somehow distribute multiple instances or what?

• MySQL and GROUP_CONCAT() maximum length

  Hello everyone, I'm using GROUP_CONCAT() in a MySQL query to convert multiple rows into a single string. However, the maximum length of the result of this function is 1024 characters. I'm very well aware that I can change the param group_concat_max_len to increase this limit: SET SESSION group_concat_max_len = 1000000; However, on the server I'm using, I can't change any param. Not by using the preceding query and not by editing any configuration file. So my question is: Is there any other way to get the output of a multiple row query into a single string? So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml. They have an outer EAR project containing the inner WAR project. They discuss that this may be related to how jars end up in the projects. I use Maven, and I had set it to create "Skinny Wars", that is excluding all jar dependencies from the inner WAR project, so that it remains small in size. All its dependencies are contained in the EAR and are used by all other modules. I changed the settings of the maven-war-plugin to leave inside the war the web-specific jars (the ones mentioned in the link, like RichFaces, jboss-seam-debug, Facelets etc). However, the problem has reverted to its previous form. I now get the debug page, whatever link I press, with the initial exception. Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" UPDATE 3: The structure of the application .ear is the following: application.ear |--> APP-INF | |--> classes |--> lib (all jar dependencies go here, including the WAR dependencies, EJB module dependencies) |-->META_INF | |--> application.xml | |--> data-sources.xml | |--> MANIFEST.MF | |--> weblogic.xml | |--> weblogic-application.xml |--> jboss-seam-2.2.0.GA.jar |--> myEjbModule1.jar |--> myEjbModule2.jar |--> myEjbModule3.jar |--> myEjbModule4.jar |--> myWar.war (NO libraries in WEB-INF/lib, finds everything in EAR/lib) When deploying .ear application WITHOUT debug enabled (not including the jboss-seam-debug.jar in the ear), the application is loaded correctly. BOTH the application AND the debug page appear correctly.   I'm creating an iPad app, and I have two classes: NWRootViewController : UITableViewController and UINewFeedViewController : UIViewController.   I have a list of key/value pairs I'd like to store in and retrieve from a XML file. So this task is similar as described here. I am trying to follow the advice in the marked answer (using a KeyValuePair and a XmlSerializer) but I don't get it working. What I have so far is a "Settings" class ... public class Settings { public int simpleValue; public List<KeyValuePair<string, int>> list; } ... an instance of this class ... • ADO.NET Data Services Entity Framework request error when property setter is internal

  I receive an error message when exposing an ADO.NET Data Service using an Entity Framework data model that contains an entity (called "Case") with an internal setter on a property. If I modify the setter to be public (using the entity designer), the data services works fine. I don’t need the entity "Case" exposed in the data service, so I tried to limit which entities are exposed using SetEntitySetAccessRule. This didn’t work, and service end point fails with the same error. public static void InitializeService(IDataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("User", EntitySetRights.AllRead); } The error message is reported in a browser when the .svc endpoint is called. It is very generic, and reads “Request Error. The server encountered an error processing the request. See server logs for more details.” Unfortunately, there are no entries in the System and Application event logs. I found this stackoverflow question that shows how to configure tracing on the service. After doing so, the following NullReferenceExceptoin error was reported in the trace log. Does anyone know how to avoid this exception when including an entity with an internal setter? 'assets/attachments/instructions.pdf')); $swift->send(); The email::connect() returns an instance of SwiftMailer. As per these docs, it would seem that it should work. However, I get an error Fatal error: Call to undefined method Swift_Mailer::setSubject() in /home/user/public_html/application/classes/controller/properties.php on line 45 I've seen that email::connect() does exactly what the example code in the docs does.   All, We are using SQL Server 2008 with Collation Setting as 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS'. We are using Varchar column to store textual data. We know that we cannot store Double Byte data in Varchar column and hence cannot support languages like Japanese and Chinese without converting it to NVarchar. However, will it be safe to say that all Single Byte Characters can be stored in Varchar column without any problem? If yes then from where can I get the list of languages which needs Single Byte for storage and the list of languages which needs double byte? Any assistance in this regard is highly appreciated. • Emgu CV - memory-leaks (memory consumption)

  I am using EmguCV, the OpenCV wrapper for .NET. I am disposing all created objects but my app is still using more and more memory (in release configuration too). I have debugged my app using .NET Memory profiler and get this result: http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/2503/screenqv.png all objects instance count is oscilating but GChandle instance counr is increasing until my machine is unusable. Garbage collector does not release memory (i think). I am using VS 2008 professional, Win7 prof 32-bit, both up to date, and last stable version of emguCV. I can post some app code, if it will help. So, what's the correct way to handle this?
