• Using JUnit with App Engine and Eclipse

  I am having trouble setting up JUnit with App Engine in Eclipse. I have JUnit set up correctly, that is, I can run tests that don't involve the datastore or other services. However, when I try to use the datastore in my tests they fail. The code I am trying right now is from the App Engine site (see below): http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/localunittesting.html#Running_Tests So far I have added the external JAR (using Eclipse) appengine-testing.jar. But when I run the tests I get the exception below. So, I am clearly not understanding the instructions to enable the services from the web page mentioned above. • How can I pass extra parameters to the routeMatch object?

  I'm trying to unit test a controller, but can't figure out how to pass some extra parameters to the routeMatch object. I followed the posts from tomoram at http://devblog.x2k.co.uk/unit-testing-a-zend-framework-2-controller/ and http://devblog.x2k.co.uk/getting-the-servicemanager-into-the-test-environment-and-dependency-injection/, but when I try to dispatch a request to /album/edit/1, for instance, it throws the following exception: Zend\Mvc\Exception\DomainException: Url plugin requires that controller event compose a router; none found Here is my PHPUnit Bootstrap: class Bootstrap { static $serviceManager; static $di; static public function go() { include 'init_autoloader.php'; $config = include 'config/application.config.php'; // append some testing configuration $config['module_listener_options']['config_static_paths'] = array(getcwd() . • Running SSL locally on a hosts redirected domain name with Ubuntu and Apache

  I recently made some changes to my Ubuntu computer so that a domain name resolved to my local copy of Apache. I edited /etc/hosts and added 127.0.0.1 thisbit.example.com Then set up a VirtualHost for the responses I wishes to create. That all works fine and my testing is now shooting on ahead without harm or risk tot he production server. Now for my next trick I need to test the authentication and so need to do this with HTTPS Basically https://auth.example.com needs to work on my PC without the SSL causing an issue which I imagine would be the case as I am clearly not the true https://auth.example.com but for the basis of this exercise I need to pretend that I am. Now it might be that the Apps I'm testing don't worry about checking the certificate. (Many are in Java which I'm no expert with). What gotchas am I likely to encounter and what is the best way of not letting my own hacks spoil my testing? I'm guessing the place to start is to enable SSL with Apcahe... I've never done that before as it has never come up before.

• AMIs in Amazon EC2

  I really like the Amazon EC2 environment, and thought I'll spend a bit of time playing around with various types of public (Windows!) AMI servers. But testing has been a bit, well, questionable. Some of my findings: It's very difficult to know what exactly a specific public EC2 image is supposed to be doing. Many images come with little to no information. I can't seem to find the passwords to log onto various windows images. Why are they public if they can't be used!? Lots of images are based on S3, and not EBS backed. This is very annoying, as S3 takes a lot longer to do pretty much anything (stop, image etc.) I am only testing images here, so of-course I don't question the value of S3 for other attributes. The description of what an image does is almost useless and many times confusing. Have others come across these EC2 issues. Again, my interest was to just play around with public images for testing/experimentation/etc, and therefore these issues may not be too relevant for more normal EC2 deployment uses.

• TeamCity sends inadequate responses after Selenium tests

  I have a TeamCity 7.0.2 at CentOS 6.2 server without X Server. I've installed x11-fonts*, xvfb, firefox, xauth, extracted env. variable DISPLAY=localhost:1, and started xvfb. After that I could start Selenium tests using maven. Tests are executed, but there's an issue with TeamCity. Usually TeamCity starts hehaves absolutely inadequate (it confuses images at the page, sends xml or strange text ampersants and numbers in responses and is a bit slower), also tests are executed 4 times slower (1h 15m) at server than at tester Windows 7-based machine (25m). It worth to notice that tests launch two Jetty servers for tested application (one for REST-services application and another for client). In TeamCity I set JVM command line parameters: -Xms256m -Xmx1224m -XX:MaxPermSize=320m, and Additional Maven command line parameters ends with "-DMAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx1024m" (without quotes). Also both web-services and TeamCity uses the same Oracle server (but different Oracle users). Finally TeamCity and its build agent is at the same server. Server has only 4GB of RAM, but during testing there're 400MB of RAM and 1.2GB of swap. TeamCity and Firefox uses about 65% of CPU during testing. There's no firefox process after end of testing. My knowledge about Selenium is weak. I only know that we use 2.20.0 version of selenium-java maven dependency. Please help me to determine why TeamCity sends wrong responces after Selenium tests. I've tried to give you all information I have, but feel free to ask me for more information.

I have completed all these steps, but when I do a client request my server invariably responds with "unknown". It seems to be completely unaware of my certificate's existence. I would greatly appreciate if anyone would be willing to have a look at my code. I've recently gotten a new work machine and am trying to set up the VMs again for testing, however nothing seems to be working. Both the old and the new system run Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate with AMD processors. I downloaded Virtual PC & XP mode from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx and go through the installation process. XP mode is installed, but when I try to run it it goes through the initial setup process only to fail when it is almost complete with the error "Cannot Complete Setup". (After googling I see that this might be a conflict with my processor) I download other VHD's from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx in order to get the other versions of IE and try to set those up in Virtual PC as well. I click on them to start the machine and both Windows 7 with IE8 and Windows Vista with IE7 just hang at a black screen. I try to use Virtual Box instead, and I get Windows XP with IE6 running, but I have no internet connection in the VM. I try all different settings and try to google the correct settings but nothing seems to work. When I load the VM, XP shows that its found new hardware but it needs the drivers. One of these pieces of hardware is the network adapter, but I can't connect to the internet to download the driver in the guest OS. VirtualBox tells me I need to install extensions in order for things to function properly. I go through the installation process in the guest OS and restart the VM, however now XP is asking for validation and I can't access the VM. I try installing the other 2 OS (Vista & 7) but I get a BSOD right after the startup screen appears and the VM restarts itself. I'm getting so frustrated trying to make this work, I would really appreciate any assistance on getting the VMs up and running or any alternatives for testing websites in Internet Explorer.

• CloudFlare dashboards empty, or performance issues

  I wanted to test CloudFlare performance so I set my image gallery domain on it and started testing. I have added PageRules for caching. And chose the Security: Essentially Off. I checked NS check tools and they say that my domain name is propagated with CloudFlare. For testing purpose I created a link that loads 200 images from that server, and was using loads.in website to determine how much it is faster. After trying few regions, I noticed that there were no improvement in loading speed. So I looked up the dashboards, and it was empty. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, or made some error in my setup, or it takes few days to start caching or working properly, but at the moment - after a day of testing - dashboards are empty. Also the NS check tools sais that all name servers are propagated to CloudFlare and working fine. So I assume I got a bad performance because it is simply not working. I sent a letter to CloudFlare support team, but did not get any straight answer. So essentially my question is: Anyone has any experience with CloudFlare ? How long does it take for it to start caching static content to CDN ? Or there is simply something I am doing wrong ?

• SQL Server performance on VSphere 4.0

  We are having a performance issue that we cannot explain with our VMWare environment and I am hoping someone here may be able to help. We have a web application that uses a databases backend. We have an SQL 2005 Cluster setup on Windows 2003 R2 between a physical node and a virtual node. Both physical servers are identical 2950's with 2x Xeaon x5460 Quad Core CPUs and 64GB of memory, 16GB allocated to the OS. We are utilizing an iSCSI San for all cluster disks. The problem is this, when utilizing the application under a repeated stress testing that adds CPUs to the cluster nodes, the Physical node scales from 1 pCPU to 8 pCPUs, meaning we see continued performance increases. When testing the node running Vsphere, we have the expected 12% performance hit for being virtual but we still scale from 1 vCPU to 4 vCPUs like the physical but beyond this performance drops off, by the time we get to 8 vCPUs we are seeing performance numbers worse than at 4 vCPUs. Again, both nodes are configured identically in terms of hardware, Guest OS, SQL Configurations etc and there is no traffic other than the testing on the system. There are no other VMs on the virtual server so there should be no competition for resources. We have contacted VMWare for help but they have not really been any suggesting things like setting SQL Processor Affinity which, while being helpful would have the same net effect on each box and should not change our results in the least. We have looked at all of VMWare's SQL Tuning guides with regards to VSphere with no benefit, please help!

• Windows 7, network transmit (send) not working

  My Win 7 works 2 years without problem. But now, I can't transmit (send) big data on LAN/Internet. I can: - Ping anything - Browse Internet, download files at full speed - Send e-mails with very small attachments. - Testing download speed on Speedtest.net, measure stable full speed. I can't: - Testing upload speed on Speedtest.net. Upload stuck.. - Save/send email messages with big (128k) attachment, independent from e-mail provider or e-mail box. THIS IS NOT A HARDWARE/CABLE/CARD OR OTHER NETWORK DEVICES PROBLEM! When I boot from a Linux Live CD, without ANY hardware change, all data sending, testing works correctly, at full speed. I have tried already in Win 7: - Disable Windows/3rd party Firewall completely - Reset IP stack parameters (netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt) - Computer restore - Reinstall LAN driver When I inspect the packets in Wireshark in Windows, I see lot's of (maybe 60% of sent packets) "TCP Retransmission". Sometimes receive "TCP Dup Ack" or "TCP Out-of-Order". Linux don't do this. Thank you for the help.

• Slow Routing Over LAN (Wired)

  I'm having issues with my router acting very slow (Adtran Netvanta 3458). We have two networks, let's call them A and B. When I run netperf from two servers on network A (no routing) I get speeds along the lines of 900 Mbps. Which makes sense, since we have all 1Gbps switches. When testing A to B (or vice-versa) I get speeds along the lines of 22Mbps. I have also tested connecting my laptop to the switchports on the router, and testing two servers on network A (no routing) and got speeds around 90 Mbps. Which makes sense since the switchports on the router are 100Mbps. Does anyone have any idea why routing would be so slow? We bought the router over a year ago, and we think it has been doing this since then, but we never actually tested it before. (network B isn't really used much, so we didn't notice much) We were implementing a site-to-site VPN and noticed it was ridiculously slow, so we started testing basic routing performance. I have ruled out cabling and router CPU/memory utilization. Adtran looked at my config, but didn't see anything wrong with it.

• MSDTC attempts to enlist client machine in a distributed transaction

  Hi there We're seeing the following intermittent warning logged by MSDTC: A caller has attempted to propagate a transaction to a remote system, but MSDTC network DTC access is currently disabled on machine 'X'. Please review the MS DTC configuration settings. However, MSDTC is disabled on machine X by design - it's a client machine, and has no business being enlisted in the transaction! Several windows service endpoints hosting WCF services over TCP Single SQL Server 2005 instance beneath Linq to Sql Remote client receives event callbacks over WCF/TCP The issue is tricky to reproduce - usually following restart of services. We suspect a callback to the client machine is occurring within the context of a transaction. Just wondering if anyone has seen similar issues?? Ken

• Using long polling with WinForms Clients in .NET

  Hi We need to develop a .NET application, basically a WinForms client, which needs to be notified of changes only from the server to update the UI only in case of necessity and not every time. We initially thought of NetTCPBinding but understood that it has problems with firewalls across domains and secure networks. We now consider long-polling as a viable option but we could only find this being used with WPF and XAML clients. For example, http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/duplexhttp But we could not find anything with WinForms. My opinion is that long-polling has to do with WCF and does not matter what UI technology is used (within .NET). Do you think it is possible to use long-polling with a custom WCF channel for WinForms? I am on the way to develop a POC but dont have much time. Any help in the right direction is much appreciated.   i wrote a cuda program and i am testing it on ubuntu as a virtual machine. the reason for this is i have windows 7, i don't want to install ubuntu as a secondary operating system, and i need to use a linux operating system for testing. my question is: will the virtual machine limit the gpu resources? So will my cuda code be faster if i run it under my primary operating system than running it on a virtual machine?

• Advice? SSO in N-tiered SOA with mixture of REST and SOAP services

  Hi gang, We are moving to SSO in our N-tiered SOA applications. If all the services were SOAP, I'd be ok with just the WS-Security, WS-Trust, WS-Federation set of protocols. My problem is that many of the services are RESTful (ironic) and those protocols do not address REST services. What is your advice for SSO protecting the REST services in an N-tiered SOA architecture with the following requirements: ideally claims-based identity information available to the REST services original user (eg. bootstrap) information must flow through the tiers so that each service can "ActAs" or "OnBehalfOf" the user support sequences like: WebApp -- REST Svc -- SOAP Svc WebApp -- REST Svc1 -- REST Svc2 WebApp -- SOAP Svc -- REST Svc WebApp -- SOAP Svc1 -- SOAP Svc2 support SSO (and SSOff) service/web app platforms: ASP.Net and WCF Java end-user client platforms: .Net (WSE 3.0 and WCF) flash 10 java javascript and AJAX Normally I'm good at climbing / bashing my way through walls, but this one's knocked me flat.
