• Select next element in the page source using jQuery

  I have an arbitrarily deep list of the form: <ul> <li></li> <li> <ul> <li></li> </ul> </li> </ul> I am trying to build a function "nextElement" that returns a jQuery selector. The first time the function is called, it returns the first li in the list. The second time it is called, it returns the next li in the page. Etc. I'd like this function to pay no attention to siblings, parents, children, etc. All I care about is that everytime it is called, the next li in the source gets chosen. Any suggestions on how to go about approaching this? Thanks

  I have a table that is being sorted by the TR tags, everything works fine except that I have to click twice on any item in the list after something has been moved for anything to respond, on links etc. Do I have to call some function after the list has been sorted to re-activate it so that I don't have to click twice on items?

  Hi Guys This is really getting to me now.I have a form that loads when the page loads.In my jquery 'ready' function I append a hidden to that form like so : $("<input id='thehidden' type='hidden' name='thehidden' value='hiddenval'>").appendTo("#MenuForm") When I check the form content with firebug i can see the element is added. ["$(\"#MenuForm\").children()"] is [div, input#thehidden hiddenval] All good so far.When I submit this form and try and read the elemet again,i can't get the value of the new hidden val I added. alert($('#thehidden').val()) is undefined Any help would be appreciated

  I have an ajax-enabled site that presents a lot of dynamic content by interpolating JSON values with HTML. This all works fine. BUT it means I have significant amounts of HTML all through my JavaScript. For example: var template = "<div>Foo: {bar}</div><div>Blah: {vtha}</div>"; template.interpolate({bar:"bar",blah:"vtha"}); I have cut this down a fair bit - some of my dynamic elements have quite a lot of HTML and a lot going on. I am using jQuery and I am building on Rails, so if there is something smart in either framework, that would be great.   I'm a big fan of jQuery's .data() method, but I can't always use it. Often times I am rendering html templates that I pass via AJAX and I need to attach metadata to each of the elements in the template. For example: <ul> {% for item in itemlist %} <li metadata="{{ item.metadata }}">{{ item.name }}</li> {% endfor %} </ul> I know attaching attributes to store data is bad practice (and it might not even work in older versions of IE). What is the best practice? Is there a good alternative to this method?

• select2: "text is undefined" when getting json using ajax

  I'm having an issue when getting json results back to select2. My json does not return a result that has a "text" field so need to format the result so that select2 accepts "Name".   I'm having trouble getting a response back from a Jquery ajax call... (It's a script to authenticate a user, and needs to return their name and user ID. My understanding was that I could encode it as JSON and get the data in the format below. It is returning an error of "undefined" for the alert(). • Delay the display of image loaded using jquery + ajax

  I am using the following code : $.ajax({ url: "pgiproxy.php", data: ({ data : $("#formdata").serialize(), mode : "graph"}), success: function(result){ var temp = $('<div/>').html(result); var val = temp.find('center').html(); $('#BFX').html(val); }, error: function(){ $("#error").html("ERROR !!!"); } }); The 'result' from the ajax call to 'pgiproxy.php' is a whole web page (returned as a string), this is then converted to a jQuery object and stored in 'var'. I then extract the data I need (a .gif image) using .find() which is stored in 'val'. This image is then inserted into a #BFX div for display. My problem is every successive time I click my button to update this image it shows the image loading from top to bottom as it is reading it in from the web. Is there a way to only display this image once it has fully loaded so the user doesnt see the image loading and only sees the image change instantly.

The first thing I am doing is grabbing an empty div: var packDiv = document.getElementById('templates'); packDiv.innerHTML = ""; then adding items to it in a loop: packDiv.innerHTML = packDiv.innerHTML + "<img id='" + thumbName + "' src='thumbs/" + thumbName + "'/>"; after the loop finishes I try to select an item using: console.log($("#"+thumbName)); and it returns the empty array. All the things I search on show to use .on but all the examples show that is to set event handlers. My question is how do I format a selector for dynamically created elements?

• Add linebreak with jQuery at end of each textarea row

  So I have been googleing around for a couple of days but I have not found a solution so far, so I'm turning to you guys with hope that there even is a possible solution for this. I need to, at the end of each line in a textarea add a linebreak before it is sent to PHP. That is, even if the user does not press enter but if a word get's cut of or it just jumps down a row because it has filled the with of the textarea. And I need to do so with jQuery or Javascript. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to do so? Thanks!

  Hey y'all. Is this possible using jQuery/PHP? I am looking to have my webpage automatically go to a different web page at a certain time of day. For example, i have a 'breakfast' page that is supposed to auto-redirect to the 'Lunch' (www.mylunchpage.com) page at noon. Then the lunch page go to 'Dinner' (www.mydinnerpage.com) page at 5pm. I want it all based on time of day on not on a timer. Yes, the browser will be open all day... Any idea on how to make this work? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Im guessing hte addlead.pl is just a posting page with no response.

  I am trying to create functionality similar to drag and drop. I need to create my own as there will be some significant differences to the drag and drop in the jquery UI. I would like to have mousemove being called repeatedly at all times, and mousedown called every time the mouse is pressed. So I have the following code: $(document).bind('mousemove',function(e){ $("#coords").text("e.pageX: " + e.pageX + ", e.pageY: " + e.pageY); }); $(document).bind('mousedown',function(e){ }); ('coords' is the id of a div) As I move the mouse, coordinates are reported correctly in 'coords'. If I depress a mouse button and then move the mouse, coordinates are still reported correctly. But if I depress a mouse button on an image and then move the mouse, coordinates are reported correctly for a few sets, and then they seize up! Why is this happening and how can I fix it?   I have a DIV element inside another as follows: <div id="filters"> <div class="filterData">hello</div> </div> and I'm trying to remove the element: $("#filters").remove('.filterData'); Problem is, it doesn't. I've tested on other elements on my page and it works. The thing is, I cannot append to it, show or hide it, use .empty. I've also changed it to be a DIV with 'filterData' as the ID and told JQuery to remove it but it refuses to... Has anyone had a stuborn element like this before? EDIT: I'm also trying to remove it inside a $(document).ready function so I have no idea.

• Get other classes from an element with Jquery

  I am working on a small bit of script that will allow for easy and flexible creation of buttons. My buttons are made of three parts, a left, a right and a streched middle piece. There are three different sizes and three different colours of each. I have written the code that resizes the button to fit the text. Now I am looking to add the ability to easily set the colour and size. I was thinking of using three classes something like <div class="button blue big"> My script already loops through the button classes using each. Now I need to find out what other classes are set and adjust the pictures and dimentions used to fit. So how can I find out what other class selectors an element has? Also I am fairly new to jquery/javascript so I am wondering if storing the design as class selectors is the best way.
