• Silverlight 4.0 question - synchronous calls to asmx web service

  Hi, I have Silverlight problem. I have to deal with fairly large legacy application that has some web services exposed (regular asmx, not wcf). What I need to do is to build Silverlight app that consumes those web services. Due to business logic I need to have the same web method to be called from Silverlight app synchronously. I was able to build web services consumption but only asynchronously because that would be default Silverlight behavior. Is there a way to make asynchronous calls synchronous in Silverlight? I looked here and googled around but came across only wcf examples. I would appreciate if somebody would get me a code example for regular asmx web service. I use Silverlight 4.0. Thanks!

  I have a JavaScript-heavy Rails app which I am testing in watir. I have two specific testing requirements: I need to be able to simulate moving the mouse to a specific area of the screen (or at least triggering the onmouseover event for a div) Evaluating a snippet of JavaScript once the above has happened to see if a flag is set correctly I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in watir. Any ideas on how to do this?

• Windows Batch Scripting Issue - Quoting Variables containing spaces

  So here's my issue: I want to use %cd% so a user can execute a script anywhere they want to place it, but if %cd% contains spaces, then it will fail (regardless of quotes). If I hardcode the path, it will function with quotes, but if it is a variable, it will fail. Fails: (if %cd% contains spaces) "%cd%\Testing.bat" Works: "C:\Program Files\Testing.bat" Any ideas?

Apart from unit tests, it allows to do UI interaction tests, typically using AutomationPeer subclasses (eg ButtonAutomationPeer to interact with a Button). Are there AutomationPeer classes to test the interaction with the following: OpenFileDialog SaveFileDialog MessageBox In unit tests it would be possible to stub these, but for integration and browser testing it would be great to have this testable.

• Silverlight authentication during startup - how to mimic syncronous behavior?

  I have a Silverlight app that is using the MVVM pattern. I have a WCF service which will allow me to authenticate users (I don't have direct control over that service - assume it is a black box that just returns me the user info and a list of privileges the user has). So, when the app starts up, I want to pull security data from that service. Right now, when I do this, my views and view models can end up getting initialized before the service returns with the security data. This causes problems because the view models need to disable buttons and make things visible/invisible based on the user having certain privileges. Is there a pattern that allows me to prevent the initialization of the views / view models until the WCF call has returned? How would you go about solving this problem as elegantly as possible?

• Can Hudson branch promotion get based on project stability?

  Hudson CI server displays stability "weather" which is cool. And it allows one project build to kick off based on the successful build of another. However, how can you make that secondary project dependent additionally on the stability of multiple builds of the first project? Specifically, project "stable_deploy" needs to only kick off to promote a version to "stable" if project "integrate" with version 8.3.4.1233 has built and tested successfully at least 8 times--in a row. Until then, it's still in integration mode. IMPORTANT: A significant caveat to this is that a single set of Hudson projects gets used as a "pipeline" to process each new version through to release. So a project may have built successfully 8 times in a rolw but the latest version 8.3.4.1233 may be only the 2 most recent builds. The builds prior to that may be an earlier version. We're open to completely reorganizing this but the pipeline idea seemed to greatly reduce the amount of manually project creation and deletion. Is there a better way to track version release "pipeline"? In particular, we will have multiple versions in this pipeline simultaneously in the future due to fixes or patches to older versions. We don't see how to do that yet, except to create new pipeline projects for each version which is a real hassle. Here's some background details: The TickZoom application has some very complete unit tests some of which simulates real time trading environments. Add to that TickZoom makes elaborate use of parallelization for leveraging multi-core computers. Needless to say, during development of a new version, there can be stability issues during integration testing which get uncovered by running the build and auto tests repeatedly. A version which builds and tests cleanly 8 times in a row without change plus has undergone some real world testing by users can be deemed "stable" and promoted to the stable branch. Our Hudson projects look like this: test - Only for testing a build, zero user visibility. integrate_deploy - Promotes a test project build to integrate branch and makes it available to public for UA testing. integrate - Repeatedly builds the integrate branch to determine if it's stable enough to promote to stable branch. This runs the builds and test hourly throughout every night. stable_deploy - Promotes an integrate project build to the stable branch and makes it public for users who want the latest and greatest. stable - Builds the stable branch once every night. After 2 weeks of successful builds (14 builds) it can go to "release candidate". And so on... it continues with "release candidate" and then "release".

• Cant get the catch statement to catch the custom exception

  Hi ALL~ I'm getting this error while I was implementing and testing PHP webservice using Zend Soap. I'm testing the same codes under 2 different protocols(http & https) in 2 different web servers. http site works just fine, but I get "SoapFault exception: [VersionMismatch]..." error in https. The two web servers almost have the same specs. Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Some initial testing is showing Direct Connect in 64bit dotConnect running 30% slower at times than our original ODP.net/OCI 32 bit solution.   Hi We're using the castle scheduler component: http://using.castleproject.org/display/Comp/Castle.Components.Scheduler?showChildren=false I have a wcf service which creates the tasks and that does it's job fine. I then have a console app running (will be a windows service eventually) which should then keep an eye out for tasks to run. Thing is the each create their own scheduler in the DB but they both have the same clusterid. Should the console app be able to run the tasks created by the wcf service?   Previously within my Fitnesse fixture I was specifying an expected WCF exception using: exception[FaultException] Since then I have converted the WCF service to return a strongly typed FaultContract. I am now getting the following failure message: exception[FaultException`1: "A file with the name DMS Documents/testFileWord.doc already exists. It was last modified by SHAREPOINT\system on 09 Mar 2010 15:36:14 -0000."] This is not unexpected but how do I check for strongly typed fault exceptions? Please note I cannot include the fault message as part of the check as it contains a date which changes (I check this separately).

  Is there a way to make the DataContractSerializer serialize a [MessageContract] the same way it appears when transmitted over SOAP? Eg: When user first visit www.testing.com/productdetailpage.asp I will use caching- store the whole page into productdetailpage.html When the user go to reopen productdetailpage.asp, user will be redirected to www.testing.com/productdetailpage.html It means they will see productdetailpage.html, not .asp Is this a good way? Any implication in terms of SEO and other part? Will it be better to read datas from .html into .asp and show the final page as .asp all the time?
