Modify url in browser using javascript?

Hi, Is it possible to change the url in the user's browser without actually loading a page, using javascript? I don't think it is (could lead to unwanted behavior), I'm in a situation where this would be convenient though: I have a web app which displays reports generated by users. Layout roughly looks like: ----------------------------------------------------------- Column 1 | Column 2 ----------------------------------------------------------- Report A | Report B | Currently selected report contents here. Report C | right now the user would be looking at a url like: www.mysite.com/user123 To see the above page. When the user clicks the report names in column 1, I load the contents of that report in column 2 using ajax. This is convenient for the user, but the url in their browser remains unchanged. The users want to copy the url for a report to share with friends, so I suppose I could provide a button to generate a url for them, but it would just be more convenient for them to have it already as the url in their browser, something like: www.mysite.com/user123/reportb the alternate is to not load the contents of the report in column 2 using ajax, but rather a full page refresh. This would at least have a linkable url ready for the user in their url bar, but not as convenient as using ajax. Thanks

Modifying html of dom element that was created after page loaded

I have two separate AJAX calls. One that gets a list of items from a txt file and creates an HTML table out of them and one that talks to a database to find how much each item costs and then lists this in the corresponding table cell for each item (I know this may sound like a strange approach, but it's a good option in our case...). The issue is that the price is not getting written to the table since the table is created (or to be precise, the rows of the table are created) after the page loads. Async run for javascript by using listeners

I have two functions, the names are Function3, Function4, Function3 will send request to server side to get jsondata by using ajax, which, however, will take about 3 seconds to complete. Function4 is a common function which will wait for Function3's result and then action. That's out of my expection because my expection is "Function3 complete" comes first, "Function4 complete" comes second and "All done" is expected as the last one. Why is Git telling me "Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 11 commits." and how do I get it t

I'm a Git newbie. I recently moved a Rails project from Subversion to Git. I followed the tutorial here: http://www.simplisticcomplexity.com/2008/03/05/cleanly-migrate-your-subversion-repository-to-a-git-repository/ I am also using unfuddle.com to store my code. I make changes on my Mac laptop on the train to/from work and then push them to unfuddle when I have a network connection using the following command: git push unfuddle master I use Capistrano for deployments and pull code from the unfuddle repository using the master branch. Lately I've noticed the following message when I run "git status" on my laptop: # On branch master # Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 11 commits. # nothing to commit (working directory clean) And I'm confused as to why. I thought my laptop was the origin... but don't know if either the fact that I originally pulled from Subversion or push to Unfuddle is what's causing the message to show up. How can I: Find out where Git thinks 'origin/master' is? If it's somewhere else, how do I turn my laptop into the 'origin/master'? Get this message to go away. It makes me think Git is unhappy about something. My mac is running Git version 1.6.0.1. When I run git remote show origin as suggested by dbr, I get the following: ~/Projects/GeekFor/geekfor 10:47 AM $ git remote show origin fatal: '/Users/brian/Projects/GeekFor/gf/.git': unable to chdir or not a git archive fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly When I run git remote -v as suggested by Aristotle Pagaltzis, I get the following: ~/Projects/GeekFor/geekfor 10:33 AM $ git remote -v origin /Users/brian/Projects/GeekFor/gf/.git unfuddle [email protected]:spilth/geekfor.git Now, interestingly, I'm working on my project in the geekfor directory but it says my origin is my local machine in the gf directory. I believe gf was the temporary directory I used when converting my project from Subversion to Git and probably where I pushed to unfuddle from. Then I believe I checked out a fresh copy from unfuddle to the geekfor directory. UINavigationController + UITableView + UISearchBar + UISplitViewController

I have an annoying problem. I have an UINavigationController with an UITableView in the Master (Left) pane of my UISplitViewController. When I do normal operations, things push on on to the navigation controller fine. However, when I do a search and push things on, it's like it doesn't account for the space the navigation bar needs. It pushed the new controller on at the very top, then puts the navbar on, overlapping the content! I should add it works fine when doing it in portrait (in the popup menu) and on the iphone. Is this an UISplitViewController bug?

I'm a beginner learning some assembly, when preserving the ESP register before a function call does it matter if you do it by adding or subtracting? hard to explain, consider the following mov esi, esp sub esp, 12 // on 32bit OS this would mean that there are 3 arguments to the function // push, function call etc cmp esi, esp // should be the same or mov esi, esp // push, function call etc add esp, 12 cmp esi, esp // should be the same Also if for some reason the cmp fails, is it safe to do mov esp, esi to re-align the stack? Thanks EDIT: Also how come i need to do this for a call like sprintf, but MessageBox seems to fix ESP for me? How am i to know what function needs this and what doesn't?

UITableView custom popping

Okay, I made an app that has a list of items as a main view, and when you select an item it pushes a detail view controller. In this detail view controller you can switch between items. I want to be able to push a view, scroll a few items, and pop the view as if the current item was initially selected. I want to push a view, and then when i pop it, i want it to look like a different view was initially pushed. I’m using the following script on my website to play an mp3 in flash. To instantiate the flash object I use the swfobject framework in a javascript function. When the function is called the player is created and added to the page. The rest of the website is in php and the page calling this script is being included with the php include function. When you push the playbutton, the div with the speaker is fading in and when you push the stopbutton, the div with the speaker is fading out, very simple. And it works as I want it to do. But the problem is, when a song is finished, the speaker doesn’t fade out. Is there a simple solution for this? I already tried using the swfobject framework to get the flash player from the page and call the ‘IsPlaying’ on it, but I’m getting the error that ‘swfobject’ can’t be found. All I need is a little push in the right direction or an example showing me how I can correctly get the currently playing audio player (in flash), check if it’s playing and if finished, call a javascript function to led the speaker-image fade-out again. Hope someone here can help me

heroku corrupted object, git fsck fails in rails

Hello. I am trying to push an app to heroku and I am getting the error detailed here. So I am trying to determine the corrupt objects using git fsck -full but it isn't returning anything. Nothing happens: Ryan@Ryan-PC ~ $ git fsck --full Ryan@Ryan-PC But I get the object error when I try to push the object to heroku. Is there anyway I can go about repairing the corrupt repository, or can I just delete it and start over? How do I go about doing this?

Git checking out problem [fatal: early EOFs]

Dear all, I'm running a Ubuntu (9.10) server with Git (latest from Ubuntu package manager) installed. Access to the Git is via SSH. On windows machines, I'm using Cygwin to push/pull code. I can push my project code onto the server but when I do a clone or pull, it returns a [fatal: early EOFs] error at about 75-80%. Upon further investigation, it seems like textual data has no issue when pulled/cloned but when the jar files and images are pulled from Git, the error will occur. Any suggestion/advice that can help to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Bazaar newbie question about repository structures

I want to use Bazaar on Windows XP for web-development and related tasks. Most of the files are edited locally and then transferred via FTP to the server. Just now the repository sits on my local workstation. Later on it should be shared locally with some co-workers. Perhaps we will use a local Linux server as a centralized repository, but this structure is not decided for now. But first I need to understand the impacts of the different repository setups, which I do not at all. Using Bazaar-Explorer on Windows XP I’ve created a ‘shared tree repository’ from the option list of the init-dialogue in some location dev-filter/. Bazaar Explorer tells me: Created repository with treeless branches at F:/bzr.local/dev-filter Created branch at F:/bzr.local/dev-filter/trunk Created working tree at F:/bzr.local/dev-filter/work OK so far. Now I move a bunch of files into the work directory and add and commit them as Rev 1 ‘Start Revision’. Then I work on some of these files and commit them again as Rev 2. Here my confusion starts. Shouldn’t both revisions go into the trunk? The trunk is still empty, beside the .bzr directory which only holds some management information. If I delete my working directory, which I have tried during these first experiments, everything is gone. There’s obviously no hidden storage of those files. OK. Perhaps I need to push it into the trunk? This does not work either. Entering the work/ directory and initializing the ‘push’ to the trunk, Bazaar-Explorer tells me No new revisions to push. So what? This looks like a severe conceptual misunderstanding about what should happen on my side. Edit, 2010-02-03: Some conclusions What I learned meanwhile is this: I think I should switch to the command line until I really understand what’s going on, at least for creating the repositories and branches. Bazaar Explorer introduces a new level of abstraction which I only can handle if I understand the level beneath One of the secrets of working with Bazaar at least for me is to understand those .bzr directories, their particular properties and states when created with ‘bzr init’, ‘bzr init-repository’, ‘bzr branch’ etc. in all their variants and how they are plumped together. While there’s a whole chapter of ‘Organizing your workspace’ in the Bazaar User Guide, it’s more or less workflow oriented. The manual contains a lot of directory structures for the given examples. What I would prefer beside this and have not (or only rudimentary) found so far is some graphical representation of those ‘Lego like’ .bzr building blocks which create the linking of all the parts. So I started to invent some simple notation while working through the examples and looking into the .bzr directories to document what information is stored there, where does it come from, how and to what is it linked, is it complete or shared, etc. Erich Schreiber

Selecting Users For A/B (Champion/Challenger) Testing

We have a framework that offers A/B split testing. You have a 'champion' version of a page and you develop a 'challenger' version of it. Then you run the website and allocate some of your users the champion and some the challenger and measure their different responses. If the challenger is better than the champion at achieving your metrics then you dethrone the champion and develop a new challenger... My question is what mechanisms should I consider to allocate the versions? A number of options spring to mind: odd or even IP address (or sub-segments) ****.****.****.123 gets champion but .124 gets challenger cookie push - check for a champion/challenger cookie, if it doesn't exist randomly allocate the user to one and push the cookie Best practice? suggestions? comments? experience?

gitosis and git clone problem

Hi, I have installed gitosis, but i have strange thing when i'm working with repos. In config i have [gitosis] [group gitosis-admin] writable = gitosis-admin members = me@server me@laptop [group prj1] writable = prj1 members = me@laptop and in /home/git/repositories i have created directory prj1.git with empty git repo. i can work with gitosis-admin from server and laptop without problems, but when i'm trying to git clone prj1 on my laptop i see $ git clone git@server:prj1.git Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/alec/temp/prj1/.git/ fatal: no matching remote head ok, lets push prj1 from laptop to server: $ git push origin master:refs/heads/master ERROR:gitosis.serve.main:Repository read access denied fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly Whats wrong?

Error connecting to online fossil repository after changing password.

I set up a fossil repository on a shared hosting account I have. I created a perl script fossil.pl that points to a cloned repository that I put up on the webspace. I set all the correct permissions (755). When I go to fossil.pl I get the web ui. Everythings cool. However I'm having a problem with pushes and hoping someone could point me to a solution. When I clone a repository it sets a new password for me (Toby) in the new cloned repository. If I push to this repository online without changing the password it works fine, I can push up changes from my local machine to the online repository. However once I change the password for Toby (to something more easily remembered by me) I get the following error. Bytes Cards Artifacts Deltas Send: 1810 9 0 2 1Server Error: not authorized to write fossil: server says: not authorized to write Anyone know why this is happening? Anyone know how to fix it?

Navigation bar's buttons tint color sometimes not set

Refer to the following, short video: http://screencast.com/t/cmnsqVTh The problem is with the color of a navigation bar's back button. The first time I load the app, the navigation bar + its buttons have the default color. I then push a view controller on the stack, and when the new view loads (in the viewDidLoad method), it sets the navigation bar's tint color to pink. The nav bar's buttons are also pink as expected. I then press the back button, and the view is popped from the stack. On the root view controller's viewWillAppear method I set the tint color back to nil so that it's the default color again. The navigation bar looks as expected. However if I push the view controller on the stack yet again, the navigation bar's tint color is pink, but the back button's color is the default light blue. Hope that was understandable. So what's the cause of the problem?

So a few questions: IS this safe? Would a better approach be to have my base repository be the test site repository (with corresponding working directory), and then have that repository push changes to a new live site repository, which has a corresponding working directory to the live site base? This would also allow me to move the production to a different server and keep the deployment chain intact. Is there something I'm missing? Is there a different, clean way to differentiate between test and production deployments when using Git for managing websites? As an additional note in light of Vi's answer, is there a good way to do this that would handle deletions without mucking with the file system much? Hi guys... i have a markup which look like this: <h3>Paragraf3-dummytext</h3> <p> <a name="paragraf3"> Quisque id odio. Praesent venenatis metus at tortor pulvinar varius. Lorem ipsum dolor sit </a> </p> what i want to do is to find all 'a' tags with 'name' attribute and find the 'h3' tag for that anchor; im trying to do it like this: var paragraf = []; var paragrafheading = []; $('a[name]').each(function() { paragraf.push($(this).attr('name')); paragrafheading.push($(this).prev().text()); but it does not work becouse there is a 'p' tag around the text. Go with Native or using phonegap ?

Hello, I was about to develop iphone app and I want suggestion from the expert since I am totally newbie in it. I have one classified website which is written in php and mysql. What I want to create is Iphone app which can view those classifieds. There will be no complicated function at first version. It will be have different categories and query and display according to the category. And if there's new classified ad, they will get push notification. What I want to know is, what should i go with ? Native or using phonegap ? Is phonegap supports push notification ? Is native app can just get the results through mysql ? or do i need to change it to sql lite ? Any speed different between native and phone gap ? Any advantages and disadvantages ? Thanks.
