• How to do pointer work with accessor methods in Objective-C

  Basic problem statement: I have a very good reason for doing some pointer fanciness in an app where I need to pass a decimal by reference. So I have a class which stores many a decimal, so let's say is has a property as such: @property (nonatomic) double myDecimalValue; I want to pass it by reference to some other class. [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:&myDecimalValue]; But, a problem emerges! The way that actually has to be written (because it's a property) is [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:&decimalOrigin.myDecimalValue]; This fails to compile in objective-c I get around it by writing the following - (double *) myDecimalValueRef; [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:[decimalOrigin myDecimalValue]]; Except I have dozens of these decimals and I don't want to write that stupid wrapper function for every value. Is there a shorthand way to do this in Objective-C using just the Getter functions? Let's just assume I have a great reason for not using NSNumber. Thanks!

• Passing complex objects to javascript via IScriptControl

  I'm playing around with a asp.net page that's using the IScriptControl interface to pass data from the code-behind to the custom javascript object running on the browser. I'm passing a number of properties via IScriptControl.GetScriptDescriptors(), and they're all working fine, except for one. That one is a class derived from System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<. And even that one has been working for me, so long as the elements in the collection were scalars - ints, doubles, and strings. But when I tried to pass a member of a class, it showed up as a null object in the javascript. The class in question is marked [Serializable]. I changed it to a struct, and got the same behavior. It looks as if the serializer used in IScriptControl does a shallow copy. I need a deep copy. Any ideas?

  So I'm starting up in Zend framework and looking to implement a site-wide "User" session.... something I can easily access from ALL modules/controllers in the application. I'm like, should I make a new namespace in the library and extend the controller, like: MyLib_Controller_Action extends Zend_Controller_Action { protected $_userSession; function preDispatch(Zend_Controller_Request_Abstract $req) { $this->_userSession = new Zend_Session_Namespace('user'); } } ANd then have all my controllers/modules/etc extend from that? Or should I create a Plugin or what? How would you go about making this plugin to pass the user session to the controller? Or do I do it in the bootstrap?? Again how to pass to controller? Also should I use Zend_Session_Namespace or Zend_Http_Cookie and also how do I encrypt and xss clean the cookie or is that did automagically?

This works as intended. My problem is that I now want to turn this single form into a formset. What I can't figure out is how I can pass the affiliate information to the individual forms when creating the formset. According to the docs to make a formset out of this I need to do something like this: ServiceFormSet = forms.formsets.formset_factory(ServiceForm, extra=3) And then I need to create it like this: formset = ServiceFormSet() Now how can I pass affiliate=request.affiliate to the individual forms this way?

• Getting a char array from a vector<int>?

  I am trying to pass a value from C++ to TCL. As I cannot pass pointers without the use of some complicated modules, I was thinking of converting a vector to a char array and then passing this as a null terminated string (which is relatively easy). I have a vector as follows: 12, 32, 42, 84 which I want to convert into something like: "12 32 42 48" The approach I am thinking of is to use an iterator to iterate through the vector and then convert each integer into its string representation and then add it into a char array (which is dynamically created initially by passing the size of the vector). Is this the right way or is there a function that already does this?

  In my app ive got a non-activity object which it's role is being a manager class. many times i need to pass "source activity" to methods as parameter to that manager class in order to make some operations on that activity. for exaple let's assume we have MyActivity which gotta do some toast. so i have this manager class called MyManager, and i have this method in it raiseToast(Activity sourceActivity) { Toast.makeText(sourceActivity, demo, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } and from Myactivity class we calling that method this way: MyManager manager=new MyManager(); manager.raitetoast(MyActivity.this); it works fine. what I'm asking here, is this a proper way to pass an Activity as parameter to a non-activity object? I'm having a memory leaks on real device(not the emulator), I wonder if this could also causing any reason for that? Thanks Idan.

The call returns me a LoginResult that contains a cookie name. Then I call another webservice and I need to somehow pass this cookie or a cookie name. and I don't know how. • Access to variables in an asp.net user control vs an include file

  I've asked this question before but couldn't get the answer I was looking for so I'm going to try it again. I'm translating pages from old asp to asp.net and I don't want to do this any other way so I really just want to know if this can be done. In asp, I'd assign a variable on one page <% myVar = "something" %> I could assign many variables here and then use an include <!--#include file="Test2.aspx"--> then in test2 file, I could access all the variables without having to pass all the variables into the control or declaring them again, like <% myVar = "something else" %> I want to do this the dot net way but I have some thirty variables on the page and i don't want to pass a bunch into the user control and I don't want to have to keep declaring the same variables. All I really want to know is if there is some way to replicate the behavior above in asp.net?

I'm experimenting with SqlMethods.Like() but to no avail. The filters above look like this: "<key>NID</key><value>mcass</value>". I'd like to be able to pass filters like this: "<key>NID</key><value>%m%</value>"

In Go, string is a primitive type, so I cannot pass nil (null) to a parameter that requires a string. I could write the function using pointer type, like this: func f(s *string) so caller can call that function either as f(nil) or // not so elegant temp := "hello"; f(&temp) but the following is unfortunately not allowed: // elegant but disallowed f(&"hello"); What is the best way to have a parameter that receives either a string or nil?

I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IEnumerable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. When I'm only displaying a single record, as in a Details view, I use ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties to obtain the list of properties for a given model. But what happens when the model I pass to the view is a collection of model or view-model objects and not a model or view-model itself? How do I obtain the ModelMetadata for a particular item in a collection?

• Windows periodically disconnects, reconnects to the network

  My setup: I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA78S2H motherboard (Realtek Gigabit wired Ethernet on-board). I have the latest drivers (at least the latest driver for the NIC. I'm connecting via an Edimax BR-6216Mg (again, wired connection). For some reason I experience short periodic disconnects and reconnects. Specifically, Skype disconnects, tries to connect, succeeds after a short while; incoming SFTP sessions get dropped; using a browser, I sometime get stuck in the DNS lookup or connection to the website and a page won't load. A couple of seconds later, a reload works. All this happens with Windows XP SP3. With Windows 7, it also happens. Tried reducing the MTU (used a utility called Dr. TCP); there was no effect. I updated my board BIOS revision (which caused all the HW to be "reinstalled" or re-identified - successfully). I installed another NIC, and tried switching to it - same effect with the on-board NIC. A while back I tried another router (although it was an Edimax model) - same problem. Connected the computer directly, with no router. Same problem. ping -t to the router (192.168.0.254) gives pongs, nothing is lost, and time is < 1 ms almost always (sometimes it says 1 or 2 ms). This is the case also during the disconnects.

• iPhone filesystem permissions POSIX-compliant?

  Hi all, I'm trying to pass some files from one app to another. I communicate the path (via a custom URL). The target application cannot read the file, citing errno 13 (permission denied). I've checked the permissions on file - they're 0644 (O+R), the permissions on directories all the way up to the root are 755 (O+RX). From a POSIX perspective, the file should be readable to any process and any user. Yet it's not. Any ideas, please? I can think of some workarounds. I could use a Web service (upload, get a cookie, communicate the cookie to the other app, other app downloads). I could also pass the actual file data in the URL - unelegant, and probably subject to length limitations. Clipboard is not supported on iPhone OS 2 IIRC.

For example: http://localhost/site/MyPage.aspx?ABCD1234 Then my code would look like this: string accountNumber = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count > 0) accountNumber = Request.QueryString[0]; In MVC, can you pass a positional query string parameter to a controller method instead of accessing it through Request.QueryString?

• php POST and non-english language chars passes empty

  I'm trying to program a Hebrew site with a search option. (old site and the charset of this site is windows-1255) I am using php 5.2 with Apache 2.2, on a Debian 5 (Lenny) with appropriate code pages enabled. I am using _POST to pass arguments to a script. If I pass English word to the script everything works, but when I use Hebrew nothing is passed through the POST function. When I use ECHO to show _POST, the variable is empty. What might be the problem? P.S. this is old site that worked fine on PHP 4 with debian 4, and the problem arised only after we upgrade to PHP5+debian5.

I need to pass my app secret, the auth code, and the original redirect URI to the Facebook access token endpoint. Since I did not initiate the authentication request, how do I determine the original redirect_uri?   So this is like my third SSRS question and I've only been looking at it for a day :S This question may be a little sketchy as I'm still not up with the terminology. Basically I have a list that is bound to a "Select" of SiteId's. Inside this list I have a sub report. The idea is to pass these SiteId's into the sub report one at a time to generate a report for each site Id. But I can't figure out the expression required to pass this value in? The API in my homework is stated below: int generate_codes(char * ssn, char * student_id); int denotes 0 or 1 for pass or fail. studentid is an output param should return a 6 digit id. ssn is a 9 digit input param they school program will take ssn's and use my code to generate the student id. now from an API perspective should I not be using const char * for both parameters. should the studentid not be passed in by reference? rather than by pointer? can someone tell me how i can easily use the pointer in my test app which uses my api to get the pointer such that it prints a std::string from a char *? my app code looks something like const char * ssn = "987098765" const char * studnt_id = new char [7]; int value = -1; value = generate_codes(ssn,studnt_id); std::string test(studnt_id); std::cout<<"student id= "<<test<<" Pass/fail= "<<value<<std::endl; delete [] studnt_id; return 0; I basically got an error about << not being compatible with the right hand side of the operand. When i changed the code to std::cout<<"student id= "<<test.c_str()<<" Pass/fail= "<<value<<std::endl; then it worked but i get garbage for the value. not sure how to do get the value form the pointer. THe value inside the function prints just fine. but when i try to print it outside of the function it prints garbage. Inside the above function I do set the studndt_id like so std::string str_studnt_id = studnt_id; should that make the address of the str_studnt point to the address of studnt_id and thus any changes I make to the value that its pointing to it should reflect outside the function?

• Dynamic choices for Django SelectMultiple Widget

  I'm building a form (not modelForm) where i'd like to use the SelectMultiple Widget to display choices based on a query done during the init of the form. I can think of a few way to do this but I am not exactly clear on the right way to do it. I see different options. I get the "choices" I should pass to the widget in the form init but I am not sure how I should pass them. class NavigatorExportForm(forms.Form): def __init__(self,user, app_id, *args,**kwargs): super (NavigatorExportForm,self ).__init__(*args,**kwargs) # populates the form language_choices = Navigator.admin_objects.get(id=app_id).languages.all().values_list('language', flat=True) languages = forms.CharField(max_length=2, widget=forms.SelectMultiple(choices=???language_choices))
