  • Are there any ASP.NET MVC Real Time View Editors?

    I'm looking for a tool and I'm not even sure of the proper name. Please be patient with me as I explain. I'm doing a lot of html/mvc 2 work. Using the standard MVC 2 view engine, I would like to have an editor that shows real time changes in the browser. If I re-arrange div elements containing standard HTML and some server side components, I would like the browser to update without a manual refresh. Are there any tools that are currently available that would meet that requirement?

  • C#: Perform Operations on GPU, not CPU (Calculate Pi)

    Hello, I've recently read a lot about software (mostly scientific/math and encryption related) that moves part of their calculation onto the GPU which causes a 100-1000 (!) fold increase in speed for supported operations. Is there a library, API or other way to run something on the GPU via C#? I'm thinking of simple Pi calculation. I have a GeForce 8800 GTX if that's relevant at all (would prefer card independent solution though). Any hints are appreciated!

  • Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

    This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

  • Which relational databases exist with a public API for a high level language?

    We typically interface with a RDBMS through SQL. I.e. we create a sql string and send it to the server through JDBC or ODBC or something similar. Are there any RDBMS that allow direct interfacing with the database engine through some API in Java, C#, C or similar? I would expect an API that allows constructs like this (in some arbitrary pseudo code): Iterator iter = engine.getIndex("myIndex").getReferencesForValue("23"); for (Reference ref: iter){ Row row = engine.getTable("mytable").getRow(ref); } I guess something like this is hidden somewhere in (and available from) open source databases, but I am looking for something that is officially supported as a public API, so one finds at least a note in the release notes, when it changes. In order to make this a question that actually has a 'best' answer: I prefer languages in the order given above and I will prefer mature APIs over prototypes and research work, although these are welcome as well.

  • Is there any disadvantage to putting API code into a JAR along with the classes?

    In Java if you package the source code (.java) files into the jar along with classes (.class) most IDE's like eclipse will show the javadoc comments for code completion. IIRC there are few open-source projects that do this like JMock. Lets say I have cleanly separated my API code from implementation code so that I have something like myproject-api.jar and myproject-impl.jar is there any reason why I should not put the source code in my myproject-api.jar ? Because of Performance? Size? Why don't other projects do this?

    confusing title but the best way I can put it. Basically I am currently using a single div with overflow:auto that contains different GridViews. The GridViews are swapped by using a MultiView with each indiviudal view containing a single GridView. I would like to be able to store the scroll position of each view so that I can set the div's scroll position depending on the view that will be switched to.     I want to be able to get a list of issues given a: Project Name and Release Version this seems like a basic JIRA soap API 101 request It seems, looking at the documentation: http://docs.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/api/rpc-jira-plugin/latest/index.html?com/atlassian/jira/rpc/soap/JiraSoapService.html you can get issues by: Filter SearchTerms SearchTerms and Project but not the above. Is this a complete oversight or i am missing something i would expect to see something like this: RemoteIssue[] issues = _soapService.getIssues(string project_, string version_) any help? UPDATE: I see that JIRA 4.0 is out but i can't find any documentation if the API has changed to support this request above. Can anyone find this link to answer that questions.

    I need to get model data into a javascript variable and use it as an int to compare values. But I can only figure out how to get the model data as strings, otherwise the compiler complains.     Hello. I have been studying MSBuild as I have the need to automate my development shop's builds. I was able to easily write a .BAT file that invokes the VS command prompt and passes my MSBuild commands to it. This works rather well and is kinda nifty. Here is the contents of my .BAT build file: call "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\bin\amd64\vcvars64.bat" cd C:\Sandbox\Solution msbuild MyTopSecretApplication.sln /p:OutputPath=c:\TESTMSBUILDOUTPUT /p:Configuration=Release,Platform=x86 pause ^ This works well but I now have the need to use the MSBuild task for TeamCity CI. I have tried to write a few MSBuild scripts but I cannot get them to work the same. What is the equivalent build script to the command I am using in my .BAT file? Any ideas? I normally have two ways to do this in my masterpage and ASPX's if (!User.IsAuthenticated) or if(Profile.username = "anonymous") however neither of these things seem available to me in the .cs i'm making. anyone know what i'm missing? maybe a using namespace up top?

    I am building a website to capture data. I have many spreadsheets that are used for data entry or capture. Now I want to mimic these complex spreadsheets on the web forms but I am unsure of the correct control to use. Data entry must be allowed and live calculations also need to be made similar to formulas on normal excel spreadsheets. Later on the data must be captured into an SQL table. What would be the best control to use or method to mimic that functionality, albeit that the spreadsheet component is no longer available in visual studio 2010. Is it a data grid? Thanks

  • Hosting a javascript api file for third party sites the way sharethis, uservoice, analytics do it.

    I'm preparing to launch a service soon which will provide third party websites a widget. The widget requires my javascript file in the website's code. Exactly the same way services like analytics, uservoice, sharethis, getclicky, etc provide you with a javascript snippet to add to your page. Therefore, my javascript file is going to be hotlinked by tons of websites which possibly receive a lot of requests too. I need advice/opinions on the following aspects: What's the right location for hosting this file? Should I use a sub-domain for it? I was thinking of something like http://api.myservice.com/js/foo.js . Remember, once websites start embedding this file, its location CANNOT change under any circumstances. Right now we can afford just one dedicated server. So I have minified my file, enabled gzip and plan to use some good cache control headers through apache. Also, in the near future when the requests pickup, I will use a http proxy like Varnish. Is this a good plan for the near future? Should I be considering a CDN in the future (since we can't afford it now)? If so how do I make sure we're prepared to migrate to it without breaking services. Pros/Cons of moving just this file to a CDN? Also, since its just one javascript file(50kb), any affordable CDN so we could consider it in the beginning itself? Any other word of advice I could use? Anything I shouldn't overlook at this stage which I would regret later? (both in terms of server + javascript ajax limitations) Thanks in advance.
