• FileReference.load() not populating FileReference.data.

  I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image. However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null. I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load." Anyone know why this is happening?

• Stop all sounds but one

  Hi, I posted a question earlier about stopping all sounds in a swf. Now, to do that I'm using the following code. var transform1:SoundTransform=new SoundTransform(); transform1.volume=0; flash.media.SoundMixer.soundTransform=transform1; Which solves the problem (mutes all sounds) but now there is an issue, I want to stop all sounds but one. Any Ideas?

• How to create a static header that remains even when navigating to other pages (lala.com)

  I'm interested in the way lala.com works. They have a header that remains fixed at the top of the browser and they have a flash music player in it. You can click on other links in the site and they are displayed below the header but the header is not disrupted and can continue playing music. If the target is a modern browser say IE8 & FF 3.6, what's the best way to achieve this? Thanks for any help.

• Prevent backslash from being parsed by javascript for a string

  A Flash AS3 IRC application sends me a string like "f\reak" to my javascript. Irc allows the \ in usernames which poses a problem when its passed to javascript. "f\reak" become "feak" in javascript making the \r into a carriage return. Is there a way to read the absolute value of the string instead of parsing a carriage return? These don't methods didn't work str.valueOf() str.toString() str.charAt(position of the \ ) this just sees the carriage return as well and not a backslash

• Are there existing web sites that use a photo as a electronic signature?

  The use case: to sign a electronic document, users view the document, and if they agree take a picture of themselves with their webcam (done through Flash from the browser). Then a PDF is generated containing the document and the picture in place of signature. This is a biometric signature, which is not as strong as a digital (cryptographic) signature, but stronger than having users draw their signature, as a photo is harder to forge than a drawn signature. Has anyone seen this technique being used on an existing web site?

  Well, I'm developing a java interface between a streaming server and a flash client. I noticed that UDP datagrams can reach my interface out of order even if both processes are running locally. My question is, in situations like FOUC (flash of unstyled content) which usually require little snippets of code right before the closing </body> tag, is there a JQuery resolution that would serve the same purpose, but from a remote Javascript file linked in the <head> of the document?

  Hi, Is there no way for javascript hosted on a webserver to read a file on a client's local machine? (this has obvious security risks). I guess I'm wondering if there's any access granting a user can do, like drag and dropping a file into the browser, or explicitly selecting a file from a popup to get around this?   Hi, I need to implement browser plugin which can register it's own protocol (like someprotocol://someurl ) and be able to handle calls to this protocol (like user clicking on 'someprotocol' link calls function inside my plugin). • Is it possible to convert text to shape in VML /canvas/SVG ?

  Hello, I need to display a text in 3D using vml/canvas/svg and do some transformation to the shape of the text like the effect of Ctrl+T in photoshop, even align a line of text to a curve, is there a way to convert text to shape first? The only thing close is getImageData() in firefox which is not ideal but OK. Any better methods? Using browser-specific hacks or voodoo is OK, but no Flash please :)

  Hello, I've stumbled upon this flash map http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/nation/unemployment-by-county/ it looks like they used this map to construct the website. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:USA_Counties_with_FIPS_and_names.svg I am curious as to what people have done or any blogs that describe what can be done with flex and simple maps like this (not google maps style maps) but simple all-in-memory maps like this one. It would be cool to see what/ and how flex can do in terms of maps. thanks!
