  • What changes does McAfee make to the registry?

    I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly what McAfee does to the registry. I've got a computer on which JavaScript no longer works. I read online that McAfee replaces the script interpreter dll path in the registry to point to its own dll, which filters, and in turn calls the official "jscript.dll". I found multiples of these in the registry, and corrected them, but it still hasn't fixed the problem - JavaScript still does not work. I'm considering just reinstalling, and then re-uninstalling McAfee to fix it. However, for the record, I still want to know if anyone has, or can provide an online list of all the changes McAfee makes to the registry.   • Hyper-V Manager: right-clicking on remote VM crashes MMC snap-in

    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 machine that I log into and use to manage virtual machines running on multiple Hyper-V servers on our domain. Sometimes, when I right-click on a remote VM, the Hyper-V Manager will crash and display the following error message: If I use the Actions menu on the lower right, it works just fine, but for some reason right-clicking causes MMC to stop working.   • Additional mailboxes in Outlook 07 SP2

    I have had my Outlook 2007 open additional mailboxes via the advanced account settings. After updating to Office SP2, the list of emails in the additional account still displays, but I get a message for each mailbox item: This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents. After double clicking the message, I get a small error box which displays just Cannot open this item. Unknown Error. Also, if I try to re-add the mailbox in the Advanced tab of my account settings, I get an error message The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. However, the status bar indicates Online with Microsoft Exchange, and I can both send and receive emails from my primary account. What could be going wrong?

  • Wii game bought in US, will it work on a PAL console in Europe?

    I can't seem to find a European online outlet that offers this Wii game I'm looking for. If I would buy it from a web-shop in the US, could I end up with a game that doesn't work well with my console? I'm worried because all games I have for the Wii so far have a prominent mention of "PAL" on the cover. I didn't notice "NTSC" on the photo's of the cover online, but I'm worried none the less. (And thought I'd ask it here first...) Also, does anyone happen to know if Belgian customs would add tax to shipments like this coming in from the US?

  • MX Record Propagation

    How long does it take a change in MX records to propagate? Is the MX record TTL the max time it will take or do we also need to wait for all DNS records to propagate? We are changing our mail server from Exchange 2003 to Exchange Online. Our current MX records (at Network Solutions) have a 1 & 2 hour TTL (primary and backup MX respectively). When we change the MX records to point to Exchange Online should all MX records worldwide be updated within 2-4 hours or should we assume the traditional 48 hours for DNS to propagate? I assume that once all MX records propagate that all new incoming email will be directed to the new server.

  • Need to find jni.h in cmake on Mac

    I am trying to make VTK compile on a Mac Air machine. I am using CMake 2.8-9, using Xcode4 as the generator. If I press the Configure button with VTK_WRAP_JAVA not checked, it will go with no errors. However I definitely need to use the wrap java since my main program is in Java and I need to get to VTK which is c++. As soon as I check the wrap Java, I get Could NOT find JNI. It apparently is looking for jni.h which in Linux there is no problem finding, but in the Mac it apparently can't find it. I did a locate jni.h and got new-host-2:~ geraldkolodny$ locate jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home/include/jni.h I tried to manually put into JAVA_INCLUDE_PATH2 either entry 2 or 3 (without the jni.h at the end), but it still can't find jni.h. Xcode used to have a template for jni but that is now gone in the latest version. I am fresh out of ideas on how to solve this problem. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks, Ilan

  • Any way to get P4V to work with older servers?

    I use P4V as a Perforce client. I updated to 2009.1 to get some major bug fixes, and it seems they removed the ability to connect to older clients. I do work for a few clients, and 5/6 depots I have to work with are new, but one is older (2002.2 I think). Does this mean that not only I can't get any more bug fixes because 1 of 6 servers is old, but now I'm completely locked out of that server since the older P4V clients are no longer online? I know the 2007.x version I used before works with the old servers, but I can't find it online. Please tell me I'm not SOL... The Visual Studio integration is part of the P4V package, not the P4Win package, so if something isn't fixed I might never have VS support for P4 again. Help :(

As i mentioned in my previous problem my computer freezes while watching online videos showing 100% cpu usage. I have tried the suggestions given in that query and I have formated my whole computer and installed windows and other softwares (with latest updates) but the problem still presisting. If i watch a video online approximately after one hour my system shows very high cpu usage and when i close my browser cpu usage comes to normal(i tried to watch Cybergeddon but my computer is freezing from start,and also other youtube videos). Can you tell me whether its an hardware problem? if yes can you give any possible explanation( eg:motherboard problem,over heating etc) because i want to tell those reasons to my computer mechanic.

  • Setting up multiple wireless access points on same network

    I'd like to add wireless to my network, and I need multiple access points to cover the whole area. I'd like to set them up so that there's only one "wireless network" that the clients see, and it switches them as seamlessly as possible between access points as they wander around (if that's not possible, then at least have it so that they don't need to set up the security by hand on each one the first time, if possible). I've searched online, and there are quite a few sets of mixed instructions (same vs different SSID, frequency, does the security need to match exactly, etc.). Can somebody who has some experience doing this please let me know what they did? I imagine it's pretty simple, but there seems to be no clear cut "yes, you can do this" online, even though I know you can. I have a mid-size LAN with about 20 workstations and two Domain Controllers on it. Also, I'll be doing this with consumer wireless components, if it makes a difference, not enterprise-level components (ie. Linksys rather than Cisco).

  • Does VMware_ThinApp_4.0.3_169725.msi contain Trojan.Win32.Vapsup in it? [closed]

    Today I ran a full system scan using Online Armor++. It detected Trojans in the installer. I have had this installer on the computer for many months and I do not remember if I ever installed it on this PC or not. For some reason I unpacked the installer with 7zip though. I was probably going to attempt to make it portable. Anyway so I had the installer in a folder, and another folder next to it with all of the installers files unpacked. The VMwareVS.cab file that was extracted from the installer, also had its files extracted into another folder. This was all done many months ago. OA++ did not detect the installer itself as as Trojan VMwareVS.cab, but it did detect 4 of the files that I had unpacked as Trojans. Here are the details of what the scan detected on my PC today. Note: I uploaded these files to VirusTotal....the Ikarus and A-squared engines(the engines from Online Armor++) are not detecting anything. But some of the other engines are detecting the same Trojan that OA++ detected(Trojan.Win32.Vapsup).     I want to create a voip service. I have installed asterisk-1.4 on a dedicated remotely hosted debian lenny distro. I made a sip.conf and extensions.conf so as to place a call between two sip phones(i am using xlite 3.0) installed in some other Windows PC. Whenever i switch this phones the asterisk console shows that Registration from '"1000"<sip:[email protected]>' failed for '122.168.10.254' - Peer is not supposed to register Where xx.xx.xx.xx is the server's IP. i.e my sip phones are unable to register with the asterisk server.   • Can you share offline files cache with two user accounts?

    I have a new laptop that I use for both home and work. It runs windows 7 ultimate, and is joined to the domain at work. It is okay to use this laptop for both work and personal activities, and I even have an account set up on the local machine in addition to the work domain account specifically for this to help keep the two separate. At home, I have a file server that I use to share files and printers with my wife's laptop, this new laptop, and my old desktop which will now become the family machine. My mp3 library is on there, among other things. What I want to do is use the windows Offline Files feature to keep a synced copy of my music library on the laptop. That part is easy. What's tricky is that I want to share this offline cache between both the local account on the laptop and my work domain account. I could do them both separately, but then I have two copies of a very large music library stored locally. This also means twice the sync burden, when the domain account is rarely connected to the file share. I really want to be able to sync from the local machine account only, and have the domain account be able to use the synced files. I know where the offline file cache is kept (\Windows\CSC) and I can find the cached files (not encrypted), but permissions on the cache are setup weird, and so using that cache directly is not trivial. Any ideas appreciated.

  • External Hardrive Not Reconized on Windows 7 at all

    I Have a NextStar 2/5" from Vantec and its an 80G HD. I have used it many times on windows xp and it works fine. We just recently upgraded to windows 7 home premium and when I plug it in it beeps many times. I've tried all the USB plugs in my computer and its not those plugs. Haven't tried eSata because it uses a weird cable to plug into. People told me that when it beeps everything is corrupted, but works fine on xp. I tried installing the drivers online from their website and when I try it asks me to put in a cd which makes no sense because they are online drivers. When I go into device manager nothing comes up, it just acts like the HD is invisible. The beeping will stop eventually as it is plugged in, but with no result.

  • How to backup iTunes on Windows to folder/share, i.e. without "Back Up to Disc"? No DVD writer avail

    (Surprised I didn't already find an answer here to this!) I've got a computer on which I'd like to back up the iTunes library – music, movies, apps, everything. We're talking multiple gigabytes. Unfortunately, it seems that iTunes' own built-in "Back Up to Disc" feature (the only backup feature I can find in iTunes) only functions with a CD or DVD writer/burner. The computer in question does not have a DVD burner. While it has a CD burner, attempting to back up to CDs would require dozens of discs plus more time than I'm willing to spend swapping them. So: What is the recommended way to back up an entire iTunes library on a Windows computer, to a non-CD/DVD location such as an external hard drive or a network shared folder? Then, once such a backup has been performed, what is the process for restoring the library – e.g. after the computer has been repaved with a new version of Windows – so that iTunes is resurrected whole and recognizes devices it syncs with? Has it also got that ease of use like swapping drives on the go, simply extend capacity by plugging in new drives, notify me of drive errors, disk failure protection, dynamic space of "partitions", better/worse effective capacity, etc. Which is more secure? Am I able to simply replace a bad drive with a new one on unraid? What happens if my pc fails? Lets say the cpu overheats. Since I have a complete pc which is going to be replaced, I only have to pay the software to use unraid. I am going to use my nas for: music library (how well does it integrate with iTunes? ) picture library movie library development (i need to be able to be to use time machine) I am going to use this nas with a MacBook pro. My current disks: 2x 500Gb 1x 1.5Tb 1x 2Tb On a drobo fs I would have 2.26 Tb of space. What would it be on unraid? Is FreeNAS also an alternative?

  • Windows 7 offline files - work temporarily offline even if network connection works

    Sometimes I am connected via VPN to a network containing the server where files are stored which are cached by Windows offline files feature. Sometimes the connection works good and working this way is not a problem - on other times working is quite a pain because of high latency when working with the files in the Windows explorer. Is there an interactive way how a user (with admin permissions) can temporary suspend online usage of offline files? I already activated the "Transparent caching" group policy feature (Computer Configuration Policies Administrative Templates Networks Offline Files) with a network latency of 200msec but from my experience even if I get ping times to the file server of less than 40msec online usage is quite tenacious. Setting low latency times at this point causes the offline files often to toggle which makes problems with some applications working with several files and requires them to be consistent (like SVN client).

    I am looking for an instant messaging solution to facilitate communications between recovery vehicles in remote rural areas. All the vehicles have internet connections, but they are intermittent depending on location. Ideally we'd like something that has the following features: Offline messaging: messages sent to clients who are offline will be delivered when they next come online, regardless of whether the sender is still online or not. Lightweight: CPU cycles are limited on the machines in these vehicles. A bloated solution will be an issue. Client platform is primarily win32, but support for osx/linux/mobile devices would be a bonus. Non-chatty: Bandwidth is a precious commodity for us, so services which use a minimal amount are ideal. Fault tolerant: We see plenty of packetloss and high latency, so whatever we use needs to be able to function in trying network conditions. I'm not fussed if we use a hosted platform like gtalk/skype/msn/icq/whatever, and likewise I can run a server if need be. Suggestions would be appreciated!

Update: As it turns out MacOS X was restarting nginx after I'd stopped it, because the launchd plist in ~/Library/LaunchAgents had set it to 'KeepAlive'. However, because I installed this plist into my local user's LaunchAgents folder as opposed to /Library/LaunchAgents (or better yet /Library/LaunchDaemons, which run before you even log on), it wasn't executed as root. Because of an error about not having permissions to use port 80, it actually exited right away, but still wrote to the same log file as the nginx process I started with sudo. I had thought the errors stemming from the automatic restart were actually coming from my manual restart via sudo. So, bottom line, problem solved. The real problem here was the homebrew instructions specifically asking you to install the plist file into an area that wouldn't allow a local site to use port 80.

  • Mac: window manager frozen, have ssh access

    I have a Mac which regularly runs into a problem. The user interface stops reponding, showing a "frozen" user interface. The mouse is still moving but clicking does not trigger anything. This happens about once a week. Solution so far is to force switch-off the Mac and reboot it. I have ssh root access to the Mac. Killing (kill -9) the active application has no visible impact on what is shown on the screen. Any ideas on how to diagnose this? Is there a way to restart the window manager from the ssh shell? Killing /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Resources/WindowServer seems not to be possible. The Mac is an early 2008 iMac and runs Lion with latest updates. /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports is empty. Update: Problem stays after update to Mountain Lion. The WindowServer process is in "uninterruptible wait" state ("U" flag in ps output set): imac:~ root# ps ax|awk "NR==1|| /WindowServer/"|grep -v awk PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND 86 ??   • How to rebuild a Li Ion laptop battery?

    I have an aging Gateway NX560XL laptop. The battery is toast and a new one, even aftermarket, starts at $130. So, to experiment, I began tearing apart the old battery to see what can be done. I found it used 8 standard size 18650 Li Ion cells arranged two cells parallel then in series (like: ====). Some online shopping revealed ~$7-13/ea replacements depending on mAh output. My plan is to load test to determine the bad cells and replace only those, as I read that typically only 1 or 2 may be bad. I'm proficient with soldering, however these cells are attached with welded tabs. Some of them broke during disassembly and I'm not sure how to reattach them. What I found online are cells like these that have solder tabs pre-welded to the ends so I can solder wires onto. Is there any guide available that provides the instructions and parts to do this kind of rebuild?

  • Streaming Flash Video - getting my feet wet

    I'm working on a project that will involve having a couple thousand short videos online. I haven't done anything with online video before and this is all a bit new to me, so I am looking for some general advice... I would like to use Flowplayer, and I would like to encode the videos as H264s. I am enamoured with Flowplayer's slow motion feature, which if I understand correctly, is only available using a Wowza server. I'm wondering: Is it advisable to use a delivery network of some sort? (Flowplayer seems to have a partnership with HDDN, and recommends them. http://www.hddn.com/) Or would I be better off purchasing Wowza and installing it on our own server? (At first glance, it looks as though signing up with a network like HDDN is much simpler, but perhaps there are problems that come along with this...?) Any tips / warnings of imminent peril would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
