• Building webparts with Visual Studio 2010 Express

  Hi, I'm trying to get started with building my own webparts, planning to follow this MSDN article. I've downloaded Visual C# 2010 Express - I'm not quite at the point where I feel comfortable dropping 1000 big ones yet, and I installed Visual Web Developer 2010 Express via the WPInstaller. Following through the tutorial, aside from the fact that I don't get the option to create a "Web Control Library", a gap I filled with this article, I can't seem to find the sn.exe tool (or the "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt"!). I know it's not quite a direct programming related question, but I can't even get the thing going yet! Any help is appreciated. Thanks EDIT:- I think I may be jumping the gun quite considerably, I wrote a simple hello world example and tried to build it but it doesn't have any references to the Microsoft.SharePoint packages and they don't appear in my lists. Am I understanding some more research I've done (namely this) correctly, in that I have to actually have a full installation of actual SharePoint on the machine I'm developing on?

• Background processing in rails

  Hi, This might seem like a FAQ on stackoverflow, but my requirements are a little different. While I have previously used BackgroundRB and DJ for running background processes in ruby, my requirement this time is to run some heavy analytics and mathematical computations on a huge set of data, and I need to do this only about the first 15 days of the month. Going by this, I am tempted to use cron and run a ruby script to accomplish this goal. What I would like to know / understand is: 1 - Is using cron a good idea (cause I'm not a system admin, and so while I have basic idea of cron, I'm not overly confident of doing it perfectly) 2 - Can we somehow modify DJ to run only on the first 15 days of the month (with / without using cron), and then just stop and exit once all the jobs in the queue for the day are over (don't want it to ping the DB every time for a new job...whatever the jobs will be in the queue when DJ starts, that will be all). I'm not sure if I have put the question in the right manner, but any help in this direction will be much appreciated. Thanks

  I have been asked to research the advantages/disadvantages the two application servers, but am new to the space and am having a terrible time finding an unbiased comparison of the two platforms. I understand that this is a broad question and I hate that I can't give a very specific use case (other than it will be an implementation in an organization with out a full time admin dedicated to management and it will be running in a mixed environment against JD Edwards/Oracle and SQLServer). Does anyone know of any (recently published) content that does a reasonable comparison or can any offer any insight into which might be the better choice and why. • Prototypejs .evalJSON not returning object

If I run .evalJSON(true) (to sanitize) an error happens within prototype saying "json" is undefined. The same happens if I do .evalJSON(). If I do .evalJSON with no parenthesis, then data is just an empty object and no error happens. Is there something wrong with my JSON?

  Hi all Is there a Python equivalent of PHP's mysql_real_escape_string? I'm trying to insert some strings into a MySQL db direct from Python, and keep getting tripped up by quotes in the strings. mysql_string = "INSERT INTO candidate (name, address) VALUES " for k, v in v_dict.iteritems(): mysql_string += " ('" + v_dict['name'] + "', '" + v_dict['address'] + "'), " mysql_string += ";" cursor.execute(mysql_string) I've tried re.escape() but that escapes every non-alphanumeric character in the strings, which isn't what I need - I just need to escape single quotes in this instance (plus more generally anything else that might trip up MySQL). Could do this manually I guess, but is there a smarter way to do it in Python?

• Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes?   Hi I am having some trouble getting Django & PIL work properly since upgrading to Snow Leopard. I have installed freetype, libjpeg and then PIL, which tells me: --- TKINTER support ok --- JPEG support ok --- ZLIB (PNG/ZIP) support ok --- FREETYPE2 support ok but when I try to upload a jpeg through the django admin interface I get: Upload a valid image. The file you uploaded was either not an image or a corrupted image. It works fine with PNG files. Any Ideas?

• accessing $_SESSION when using file_get_contents in PHP

  I am basic - intermediate developer using php and am a little stumped as to what I have found. I need some help in understanding how to alleviate this issue: I have a page called send.email.php which sends an email - pretty simple stuff - I pass an order id, it creates job request and sends it out. This works fine when used in the context I developed it (Use javascript to make an AJAX call to the URL and pass the order_id as a query parameter) I am now trying to reuse the exact same page in another application however I am calling it using php file_get_contents($base_url.'admin/send.email.php?order_id='.$order_id). When I call the page this way, the $_SESSION array is empty isempty() = 1. Is this because I am initiating a new session using file_get_contents and the values I stored in the $_SESSION on login are not available to me within there? Any help? Thanks

Whenever I use the python interpreter to import a Project just to test the functionality i get a name error for line 8 that FileRepo() cannot be found. How Can I import these classes correctly? Ideally what I am looking for is each Project to contain multiple FileRepos which each contain and unknown number of files.   Hello, I need a bit of help installing a copy of Opencart onto my Godaddy hosting. I have had one major problem and that was, after during and after the install, none of the styles or images where appearing. I was able to completely fix the admin panel, but I am now running into problems with the frontend. I was able to fix the styles by editing a couple lines in the index.php file: define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] .'/opencart/'); define('HTTP_IMAGE', 'http://jpoles1.com/image/'); Now the problem is that unless you are on the base url http://jpoles1.com/opencart/, none of the database functionality works. However, in my business I have some clients that are grandfathered in to some special pricing. In the case of these grandfathered in cases, I'll manually plug their special price in my admin section. Then all they will see is their special pricing while the regular users/clients see the default price. What is the best and simplest way to design the back-end for this? • Effective file permissions tool's api in windows

  Starting from Windows Server 2003, Windows included a new tool which calculates the effective permissions for a user (basically it resolves all groups access and takes care of all "deny" permissions as well). An example in point is that a user A belongs to groups B and C. B has been denied read permissions on a file F, while C has been allowed read and write permissions on the file and I want to calculate the effective permissions user A has on file F. This tool is available on Windows Server 2003,Vista,7 and Server 2008 by right clicking on a file and going to properties - security - advanced - effective permissions. What I need is an API in C# which does the same job. The most common FILE API returns access rules (class FileAccessRules), but there seems to be no direct way to calculate effective permissions from these set of access rules. Note: I do not want to process effective permissions in the code if at all possible, but am ready to do so as a last resort.

  Hi, I'm porting an application with EJBs 2.1 from Weblogic9 to JBoss AS5. I have made some of the changes like adding jboss.xml descriptors to EJBs and fixing application.xml of the EAR, but there are still problems when deploying the EAR. • Merging deletes in a Team Foundation Server baseless merge

  I have two TFS branches that do not have a direct parent/child relationship in TFS. In a certain revision, 94 in my example, several items were deleted. I have been tasked with applying those deletes to the main branch. I'd like to do so through a baseless merge. I tried the following command to do so: tf merge /baseless /recursive /version:94 .\programs\program1 ..\Release\programs\program1 Most of the items in the tree were marked as "merge", and some were marked as "merge edit". However, none of the items were deleted at the destination. On a whim i tried to merge over a single delete like so: tf merge /baseless /recursive /version:94 .\programs\program1\source1.cs ..\Release\programs\program1\source1.cs I got the following error message: The item [TFS_PATH] does not exist at the specified version. How do I do this? Is there a way to avoid making all those deletes myself?

• Using Propel ORM in my own custom classes

  I am refactoring a few classes I wrote a while ago, into my Symfony project (v1.3.2 with Propel ORM). The classes originally used direct connections to the database, I want to refactor those classes (stored in $(SF_LIB_DIR)) so that I can call propel and also use the ORM objects. To clarify, So for example, I want to be able to use code like this in my custom classes: try { $con = Propel::getConnection(); $c = new Criteria(); $foo = new PropelORMFooObject(); $foobar = PropelORMFooBarObjectPeer::fetch($c); //set fields etc $foo->setFooBar($foobar); // now save using obtained connection .. $foo->save($con) }catch(SomeException $e) { //deal with it } I assume that I will need to add some require_once() statements to my custom libraries, but it is not clear which files to include. Does anyone know how to do this?

  I am trying to trying to export a client certificate for use with a web browser. The goal is to restrict access using the <Location directive to the admin area. I have seen numerous tutorials on using self signed CAs. How would you do this using a third party? 1) Do I need to include the CA in the client pfx if it is a trusted root CA? I have seen both examples. • How do I get Nant to use the 4.0 compiler to target .Net 3.5

  Yes I know that sounds a little bit crazy, but I've got .Net 3.5 deployed in the field and I'd like to use the new 4.0 compiler to target it. There are several new syntactic sugar features in the latest versions of Vb.Net and C# which I would like to use,but I am unable (just yet) to enforce a new version of the .Net framework and CLR on my client base. Before the nay sayers jump in with both feet... I have just successfully used Studio 2010 to compile a 3.5 targeted app which used VB.Net auto properties (A new feature in VB.Net 10) so I know the compilers are capable somehow. So back to my question.... How do I convince Nant to use the 4.0 compiler, but to target .Net 3.5 (CLR 2.0) Update: I am using the csc and vbc tasks and not the Solution task. although I'd settle for an answer on how to do this direct with the compilers at this point.

• Problem using SQLDMO/Vb6 against SQL Server 2008

  I have a client, that uses SQLDMO for a portion of a custom application that was written against SQL Server 2000, and they recently upgraded to SQL Server 2008. The majority of the app still runs fine (doesn't use SQLDMO), but the admin functions which rely on SQLDMO stopped working. I installed the SQL2005 backward compatibility pack, and now SQLDMO partially works, i.e. I can run "select" type queries, but any "Update" queries fail with the error message: to connect to the server you must use SQL Server management studio or sql server management objects (SMO) Any thoughts? Should the backward compatibility pack give me ALL the functionality back, or is this a known issue? BTW: I realize SQLDMO has been deprecated and will go away next release, none-the-less I need to do what I can to solve the problem at hand.
