  • Java spliting strings

    - by N0b
    Hi I've got a Java problem. I'm trying split a string when ever a " " occurs, for example the sentence test abc. Then move the first letter in each word from first to last. I got the moving the letter to work on the original string using String text = JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,"Skriv in en normal text:"); char firstLetter = text.charAt(0); normal = text.substring(1,text.length()+0) + firstLetter; So my question is how would I split the string then start moving the letters around in each part of the cut string? Thanks in advance

  • Java Pack No Resize

    - by ikurtz
    i am learning Java at the moment and have the following question: i am adding my controls to JFrame and then pack() before displaying. this runs the application and all is very nice. i was wondering is there a way to stop the user from resizing the application window? also is there a way to for the image in JLabel to expand as the user changes the application window? at the moment i have it as: constraints.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH; constraints.anchor = GridBagConstraints.CENTER; and it only centers the image, i would like to be able to expand/shrink the image. thanks.

  • String comparison in Java

    - by Kliver Max
    I want to compare two strings using Java. First sting name i get from .mif file using GDAL in cp1251 encoding. Second kadname i get from jsp. To compare i do this: if (attrValue instanceof String) { String string3 = new String((attrValue.toString()).getBytes("ISO-8859-1"), "cp1251"); dbFeature.setAttribute(name, string3); System.out.println("Name=" + name); System.out.println("kadname=" + kadname); if (name.equalsIgnoreCase(kadname)) { kadnum = string3; System.out.println("string3" + string3); } } And in console i get this: Name = kadnumm kadname = kadnumm Whats wrong with this?

  • java - reduce external jar file size

    - by joe_shmoe
    Hi all, still learning, so be patient :) I've developed a module for a Java project. The module depends on external library (fastutil). the problem is, the fastutil.jar file is a couple of times heavier than the whole project itself (14 MB). I only use a tiny subset of the classes from the library. the module is now finished, and no-one is likely to extend it in future. is there a way I could extract only the relevant class to some fastutil_small.jar so that others don't have to download all this extra weight? there's probably a simple answer to this, but as I said, I still consider myself a noob. Thanks a lot

  • The right way to implement communication between java objects

    - by imoschak
    I'm working on an academic project which simulates a rather large queuing procedure in java. The core of the simulator rests within one package where there exist 8 classes each one implementing a single concept. Every class in the project follows SRP. These classes encapsulate the behavior of the simulator and inter-connect every other class in the project. The problem that I has arisen is that most of these 8 classes are, as is logical i think, tightly coupled and each one has to have working knowledge of every other class in this package in order to be able to call methods from it when needed. The application needs only one instance of each class so it might be better to create static fields for each class in a new class and use that to make calls -instead of preserving a reference in each class for every other class in the package (which I'm certain that is incorrect)-, but is this considered a correct design solution? or is there a design pattern maybe that better suits my needs?

  • Drawing graphs on java

    - by nunos
    I want to draw graphs (nodes and edges) in Java. However, since I don't know how to go about it, I would like to have some advice before starting. How should I do this? use Graphics2D package, right? How about the labels for the nodes? should I use something like drawString and handle all the "centering" manually or create a JLabel for that? Can I put a JLabel on a Graphics2D environment? I have searched but haven't found any simple implementation of this. If you know of one, please provide the link in your answer. Thanks.

  • Running interrelated methods continously using java

    - by snehalata
    I have written application which downloads data from a website every 10 mins and writes to a file.Then these files are merged into one file and then R program is run on this merged file to perform sentiment analysis and result is stored in hbase. I want the process of merging files,running R and then storing to HBase to run continuosly on the downloaded data. For running R,we are running R script from java program.We have used Runtime.getRuntime().exec() method to run R program but it doesn't wait for R program to complete and method in the next line starts executing.Using p.waitFor() did not help . What approach should I use to do merge then run R and finally store results in Hbase?Should I use timer class??

  • Simple Java library for storing statistical observations and calculating statistics such as stddev,

    - by knorv
    For logging purposes I want to collect the response times of an external system, and periodically fetch various statistics (such as min/max/stddev) of the response times. I'm looking for a pure in-memory solution. What Java library can help me with this simple task? I'm looking for an API that would ideally look something along the lines of: StatisticsCollector s = new StatisticsCollector(); while (...) { double responseTime = ...; s.addObservation(responseTime); } double stddev = s.getStandardDeviation(); double mean = s.getMean();

  • Java deserialization speed

    - by celicni
    I am writing a Java application that among other things needs to read a dictionary text file (each line is one word) and store it in a HashSet. Each time I start the application this same file is being read all over again (6 Megabytes unicode file). That seemed expensive, so I decided to serialize resulting HashSet and store it to a binary file. I expected my application to run faster after this. Instead it got slower: from ~2,5 seconds before to ~5 seconds after serialization. Is this expected result? I thought that in similar cases serialization should increase speed.

  • Java swing center JDialog over parent

    - by Chris Drappier
    I have a Java swing application with a button that produces a popup window when a certain action is performed. I'd like to align the center point of the popup window with the center point of the parent window when it is rendered. How can I calculate the x,y coordinates to plug into setLocation() for the popup window? EDIT: just to clarify. I do not want the behavior of setLocationRelativeTo() because that sets the top-left pixel of the popup over the center pixel of the parent frame. I want to set the center pixel of the popup over the center pixel of the parent frame. Also, I'm not interested in whether or not a popup window is good practice. I'm past that now. thanks

  • Java exception translations

    - by user3079275
    Apologies if this has been discussed on other threads but I find it helps clarify my thinking when I am forced to write down my questions. I am trying to properly understand the concept of checked vs unchecked exceptions and exception translation in Java but I am getting confused. So far I understood that checked exceptions are exceptions that need to be always caught in a try/catch block otherwise I get a compile time error. This is to force programmers to think about abnormal situations that might happen at run time (like disk full etc). Is this right? What I did not get was why we have unchecked exceptions, when are they useful? Is it only during development time to debug code that might access an illegal array index etc? This confusion is because I see that Error exceptions are also unchecked as is RunTimeException but its not clear to me why they are both lumped together into an unchecked category?

  • Debugging in netbeans (java)

    - by Daen
    I have been asking this myself for a while. Debugging in visual studio goes smooth. But when i debugg in Netbeans(java) i find myself more then half of the time browsing trough the system code itself. This makes it almost unpossible for me to detect hard to find bugs, cause debugging simply is to tedious and unmanageable. How can this be avoided? Stepping out all the time takes a insane amount of time, and i only wish to debug the code i have written down. I usally add all the controls myself without using any drag and drop for forms if that makes any difference in the total picture. Regards.

  • how to generate XML (in String representation) in java

    - by flyingfromchina
    I have defined a java class, but only need to output some of the fields of this class into an XML. The returned type must be a String. I first opted for the easiest way using a StringBuffer. However, when I tried to process the output String represenation, it failed. I think it is mostly likely because there are some characters that are not encoded in the UTF-8 in the input. Could someone tell me what is the best way to handle this? Thanks.

  • cron library for java

    - by nutsiepully
    I am looking for a cron expression library in java. Something that can parse cron expressions and return me future fire times for the trigger. API on the lines of. CronExpression cronExpression = new CronExpression("0 30 4 * * *"); List<Date> fireTimes = cronExpression.getFireTimes(todaysDate, nextWeekDate); I don't want to use something as complicated as quartz. The purpose is to basically use cron like a regex for timings. That's all. I do not want a background scheduler. I tried googling but wasn't able to find anything very helpful. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards, Pulkit P.S - I looked at using the CronExpression class out of quartz. Wasn't very helpful - failing some tests.

I need help to make a button that when someone clicks it, it has an alert message on the screen. This is my code right now: MyOnClickListener onClickListener = new MyOnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Intent returnIntent = new Intent(); returnIntent.putExtra("deleteAtIndex",idx); setResult(RESULT_OK, returnIntent); finish(); } }; for (int i =0;i<buttonList.size();i++) { buttonList.get(i).setText("Remove"); buttonList.get(i).setOnClickListener(onClickListener); }

  • Java, UnmarshallingException caused by XML attribute with special chars: ;ìè+òàù-<^èç°§_>!£$%&/()=?~

    - by segolas
    Hi, my xml file has a tag with an attribute "containsValue" which contains the "special" characters you can see in the subject: <original_msg_body id="msgBodySpecialCharsRule" containsValue=";ìè+òàù-<^èç°§_>!£$%&/()=?~`'#;" /> in my xml schema the attribute has xs:string: <xs:attribute name="containsValue" type="xs:string" /> I use this value inside a Java software which check if this value is contained inside another String. but I always obtain this Exception: javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException - with linked exception: [org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The value of attribute "containsValue" associated with an element type "original_msg_body" must not contain the '<' character.] How can I solve it? I've tried changing the attribute type to xs:NMTOKEN, ut I get the same exception. Is there any other type? I think I could change the characters encoding, for example using the HTML representation, like <, but than could be tricky for the string comparison...

  • Defining Proper Classes with Java

    - by user2579706
    Ok, I'm studying Java and have the following question: "Assume you defined a class named MyClass. A student wants to use your class and tries to declare an instance named myObj and instantiate it. He tried the following: MyObj MyClass = new MyClass( ); Why won't his code work? Show how he should correct it. " I'm not sure how to do this? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks.

  • What's new in Servlet 3.1 ? - Java EE 7 moving forward

    - by arungupta
    Servlet 3.0 was released as part of Java EE 6 and made huge changes focused at ease-of-use. The idea was to leverage the latest language features such as annotations and generics and modernize how Servlets can be written. The web.xml was made as optional as possible. Servet 3.1 (JSR 340), scheduled to be part of Java EE 7, is an incremental release focusing on couple of key features and some clarifications in the specification. The main features of Servlet 3.1 are explained below: Non-blocking I/O - Servlet 3.0 allowed asynchronous request processing but only traditional I/O was permitted. This can restrict scalability of your applications. Non-blocking I/O allow to build scalable applications. TOTD #188 provide more details about how non-blocking I/O can be done using Servlet 3.1. HTTP protocol upgrade mechanism - Section 14.42 in the HTTP 1.1 specification (RFC 2616) defines an upgrade mechanism that allows to transition from HTTP 1.1 to some other, incompatible protocol. The capabilities and nature of the application-layer communication after the protocol change is entirely dependent upon the new protocol chosen. After an upgrade is negotiated between the client and the server, the subsequent requests use the new chosen protocol for message exchanges. A typical example is how WebSocket protocol is upgraded from HTTP as described in Opening Handshake section of RFC 6455. The decision to upgrade is made in Servlet.service method. This is achieved by adding a new method: HttpServletRequest.upgrade and two new interfaces: javax.servlet.http.HttpUpgradeHandler and javax.servlet.http.WebConnection. TyrusHttpUpgradeHandler shows how WebSocket protocol upgrade is done in Tyrus (Reference Implementation for Java API for WebSocket). Security enhancements Applying run-as security roles to #init and #destroy methods Session fixation attack by adding HttpServletRequest.changeSessionId and a new interface HttpSessionIdListener. You can listen for any session id changes using these methods. Default security semantic for non-specified HTTP method in <security-constraint> Clarifying the semantics if a parameter is specified in the URI and payload Miscellaneous ServletResponse.reset clears any data that exists in the buffer as well as the status code, headers. In addition, Servlet 3.1 will also clears the state of calling getServletOutputStream or getWriter. ServletResponse.setCharacterEncoding: Sets the character encoding (MIME charset) of the response being sent to the client, for example, to UTF-8. Relative protocol URL can be specified in HttpServletResponse.sendRedirect. This will allow a URL to be specified without a scheme. That means instead of specifying "http://anotherhost.com/foo/bar.jsp" as a redirect address, "//anotherhost.com/foo/bar.jsp" can be specified. In this case the scheme of the corresponding request will be used. Clarification in HttpServletRequest.getPart and .getParts without multipart configuration. Clarification that ServletContainerInitializer is independent of metadata-complete and is instantiated per web application. A complete replay of What's New in Servlet 3.1: An Overview from JavaOne 2012 can be seen here (click on CON6793_mp4_6793_001 in Media). Each feature will be added to the JSR subject to EG approval. • Is the Cloud ready for an Enterprise Java web application? Seeking a JEE hosting advice.

    - by Jakub Holý
    Greetings to all the smart people around here! I'd like to ask whether it is feasible or a good idea at all to deploy a Java enterprise web application to a Cloud such as Amazon EC2. More exactly, I'm looking for infrastructure options for an application that shall handle few hundred users with long but neither CPU nor memory intensive sessions. I'm considering dedicated servers, virtual private servers (VPSs) and EC2. I've noticed that there is a project called JBoss Cloud so people are working on enabling such a deployment, on the other hand it doesn't seem to be mature yet and I'm not sure that the cloud is ready for this kind of applications, which differs from the typical cloud-based applications like Twitter. Would you recommend to deploy it to the cloud? What are the pros and cons? The application is a Java EE 5 web application whose main function is to enable users to compose their own customized Product by combining the available Parts. It uses stateless and stateful session beans and JPA for persistence of entities to a RDBMS and fetches information about Parts from the company's inventory system via a web service. Aside of external users it's used also by few internal ones, who are authenticated against the company's LDAP. The application should handle around 300-400 concurrent users building their product and should be reasonably scalable and available though these qualities are only of a medium importance at this stage. I've proposed an architecture consisting of a firewall (FW) and load balancer supporting sticky sessions and https (in the Cloud this would be replaced with EC2's Elastic Load Balancing service and FW on the app. servers, in a physical architecture the load-balancer would be a HW), then two physical clustered application servers combined with web servers (so that if one fails, a user doesn't loose his/her long built product) and finally a database server. The DB server would need a slave backup instance that can replace the master instance if it fails. This should provide reasonable availability and fault tolerance and provide good scalability as long as a single RDBMS can keep with the load, which should be OK for quite a while because most of the operations are done in the memory using a stateful bean and only occasionally stored or retrieved from the DB and the amount of data is low too. A problematic part could be the dependency on the remote inventory system webservice but with good caching of its outputs in the application it should be OK too. Unfortunately I've only vague idea of the system resources (memory size, number and speed of CPUs/cores) that such an "average Java EE application" for few hundred users needs. My rough and mostly unfounded estimate based on actual Amazon offerings is that 1.7GB and a single, 2-core "modern CPU" with speed around 2.5GHz (the High-CPU Medium Instance) should be sufficient for any of the two application servers (since we can handle higher load by provisioning more of them). Alternatively I would consider using the Large instance (64b, 7.5GB RAM, 2 cores at 1GHz) So my question is whether such a deployment to the cloud is technically and financially feasible or whether dedicated/VPS servers would be a better option and whether there are some real-world experiences with something similar. Thank you very much! /Jakub Holy PS: I've found the JBoss EAP in a Cloud Case Study that shows that it is possible to deploy a real-world Java EE application to the EC2 cloud but unfortunately there're no details regarding topology, instance types, or anything :-(

  • Spring transaction management breaks hibernate cascade

    I'm having a problem where the addition of spring's transaction management to an application causes Hibernate to throw the following error: org.hibernate.HibernateException: A collection with cascade="all-delete-orphan" was no longer referenced by the owning entity instance: org.fstrf.masterpk.domain.ReportCriteriaBean.treatmentArms org.hibernate.engine.Collections.processDereferencedCollection(Collections.java:96) org.hibernate.engine.Collections.processUnreachableCollection(Collections.java:39) org.hibernate.event.def.AbstractFlushingEventListener.flushCollections(AbstractFlushingEventListener.java:218) org.hibernate.event.def.AbstractFlushingEventListener.flushEverythingToExecutions(AbstractFlushingEventListener.java:77) org.hibernate.event.def.DefaultFlushEventListener.onFlush(DefaultFlushEventListener.java:26) org.hibernate.impl.SessionImpl.flush(SessionImpl.java:1000) org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.SpringSessionSynchronization.beforeCommit(SpringSessionSynchronization.java:135) org.springframework.transaction.support.TransactionSynchronizationUtils.triggerBeforeCommit(TransactionSynchronizationUtils.java:72) org.springframework.transaction.support.AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.triggerBeforeCommit(AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.java:905) org.springframework.transaction.support.AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.processCommit(AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.java:715) org.springframework.transaction.support.AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.commit(AbstractPlatformTransactionManager.java:701) org.springframework.transaction.interceptor.TransactionAspectSupport.commitTransactionAfterReturning(TransactionAspectSupport.java:321) org.springframework.transaction.interceptor.TransactionInterceptor.invoke(TransactionInterceptor.java:116) org.springframework.aop.framework.ReflectiveMethodInvocation.proceed(ReflectiveMethodInvocation.java:171) org.springframework.aop.framework.JdkDynamicAopProxy.invoke(JdkDynamicAopProxy.java:204) $Proxy92.saveNewReportCriteria(Unknown Source) org.fstrf.masterpk.domain.logic.MasterPkFacade.saveNewReportCriteria(MasterPkFacade.java:134) org.fstrf.masterpk.controllers.ReportCriteriaController.setupReportType(ReportCriteriaController.java:302) sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:585) org.springframework.web.bind.annotation.support.HandlerMethodInvoker.doInvokeMethod(HandlerMethodInvoker.java:413) org.springframework.web.bind.annotation.support.HandlerMethodInvoker.invokeHandlerMethod(HandlerMethodInvoker.java:134) org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.annotation.AnnotationMethodHandlerAdapter.invokeHandlerMethod(AnnotationMethodHandlerAdapter.java:310) org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.annotation.AnnotationMethodHandlerAdapter.handle(AnnotationMethodHandlerAdapter.java:297) org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.doDispatch(DispatcherServlet.java:875) org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.doService(DispatcherServlet.java:809) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.processRequest(FrameworkServlet.java:571) org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.doPost(FrameworkServlet.java:511) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:710) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:803) org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(ReplyHeaderFilter.java:96) I'm using Spring 2.5 and annotations to implement this management. Here is the class containing the saveNewReportCriteria method (which, as can be seen by the stack trace, is causing the error) @Transactional( propagation = Propagation.REQUIRED, isolation = Isolation.DEFAULT, readOnly = false) public class HibernateReportCriteriaDao implements ReportCriteriaDao{ private HibernateTemplate hibernateTemplate; public Integer saveNewReportCriteria(ReportCriteriaBean reportCriteria) { hibernateTemplate.save(reportCriteria); List<Integer> maxIdList = hibernateTemplate.find("SELECT max(id) from ReportCriteriaBean"); logger.info("ID of newly saved list is: " + maxIdList.get(0)); return maxIdList.get(0); } public void setHibernateTemplate(HibernateTemplate hibernateTemplate) { this.hibernateTemplate = hibernateTemplate; } } Then I added the following sections to my configuration files to tell spring that I am using annotation driven transaction management: <bean id="actgDataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean"> <property name="jndiName" value="jdbc/actg" /> <property name="resourceRef" value="true" /> </bean> <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DataSourceTransactionManager"> <property name="dataSource" ref="actgDataSource" /> </bean> <tx:annotation-driven/> I'm pretty sure that the de-referencing error is being caused due to the proxy class that Spring AOP creates and uses in order to handle transaction management, but I have no idea how I'd go about fixing it.

  • Android - exception from an AsynchTask call

    I have an Activity that makes a remote server call and tries to populate a list. The call to the server works fine, and the call returns some JSON which is good. But then the system throws this exception: 04-06 18:43:19.626: D/AndroidRuntime(2564): Shutting down VM 04-06 18:43:19.626: W/dalvikvm(2564): threadid=1: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x409c01f8) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): java.lang.NullPointerException 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(ArrayAdapter.java:394) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.getView(ArrayAdapter.java:362) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:2033) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ListView.measureHeightOfChildren(ListView.java:1244) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.ListView.onMeasure(ListView.java:1155) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureChildBeforeLayout(LinearLayout.java:1369) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:660) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:553) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:293) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:812) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:553) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:4698) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:293) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.onMeasure(PhoneWindow.java:2092) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:12723) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.performTraversals(ViewRootImpl.java:1064) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2442) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4424) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:784) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:551) 04-06 18:43:19.686: E/AndroidRuntime(2564): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Why would this happen? It doesn't point to any of my code so its a bit strange. the protected void onPostExecute(String result) never gets called on the callback. Thanks!

    Here is what I came up with. It works but I was wondering if there is something more elegant. Thank you! Misha package com.mksoft.fbbday; import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.InputStreamReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.net.URI; import java.net.URISyntaxException; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.PrintWriter; public class RunOnStartup { public static void install(String className,boolean doInstall) throws IOException,URISyntaxException { String osName=System.getProperty("os.name"); String fileSeparator=System.getProperty("file.separator"); String javaHome=System.getProperty("java.home"); String userHome=System.getProperty("user.home"); File jarFile=new File(RunOnStartup.class.getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource().getLocation().toURI()); if (osName.startsWith("Windows")) { Process process=Runtime.getRuntime().exec("reg query \"HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell Folders\" /v Startup"); BufferedReader in=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream())); String result="",line; while ((line=in.readLine())!=null) { result+=line; } in.close(); result=result.replaceAll(".*REG_SZ[ ]*",""); File startupFile=new File(result+fileSeparator+jarFile.getName().replaceFirst(".jar",".bat")); if (doInstall) { PrintWriter out=new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(startupFile)); out.println("@echo off"); out.println("start /min \"\" \""+javaHome+fileSeparator+"bin"+fileSeparator+"java.exe -cp "+jarFile+" "+className+"\""); out.close(); } else { if (startupFile.exists()) { startupFile.delete(); } } } else if (osName.startsWith("Mac OS")) { File startupFile=new File(userHome+"/Library/LaunchAgents/com.mksoft."+jarFile.getName().replaceFirst(".jar",".plist")); if (doInstall) { PrintWriter out=new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(startupFile)); out.println(""); out.println(""); out.println(""); out.println(""); out.println(" Label"); out.println(" com.mksoft."+jarFile.getName().replaceFirst(".jar","")+""); out.println(" ProgramArguments"); out.println(" "); out.println(" "+javaHome+fileSeparator+"bin"+fileSeparator+"java"); out.println(" -cp"); out.println(" "+jarFile+""); out.println(" "+className+""); out.println(" "); out.println(" RunAtLoad"); out.println(" "); out.println(""); out.println(""); out.close(); } else { if (startupFile.exists()) { startupFile.delete(); } } } } }
