  • C# Object Creation from Datatable

    - by Jonesy
Hi Folks, Im just getting my head round C#. I've been creating classes and objects so say i created a class called Member: public class Member { public int MemberID; public string FirstName; public string LastName; public string UserName; } and i create a new object of that class by doing this: Member Billy = new Member(); Billy.UserName = "Jonesy"; Billy.FirstName = "Billy"; Billy.LastName = "Jones"; Thats all fine but what if I've queried a database and gotten back 5 members, can I create objects on the fly? Or what is the best way to store these members in memory? I've used VB.Net where I would just add them into a datatable. But I've never really done any object-oriented programming before and thought since I'm learning C sharp nows the best time to learn OOP.. Any help most appreciated! Jonesy

  • Using a datanase class in my user class?

    - by Josh
In my project I have a database class that I use to handle all the MySQL stuff. It connects to a database, runs queries, catches errors and closes the connection. Now I need to create a members area on my site, and I was going to build a users class that would handle registration, logging in, password/username changes/resets and logging out. In this users class I need to use MySQL for obvious reasons... which is what my database class was made for. But I'm confused as to how I would use my database class in my users class. Would I want to create a new database object for my user class and then have it close whenever a method in that class is finished? Or do I somehow make a 'global' database class that can be used throughout my entire script (if this is the case I need help with that, no idea what to do there.) Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

  • How do functional programming languages work?

    - by eSKay
    I was just reading this excellent post, and got some better understanding of what exactly object oriented programming is, how Java implements it in one extreme manner, and how functional programming languages are a contrast. What I was thinking is this: if functional programming languages cannot save any state, how do they do some simple stuff like reading input from a user (I mean how do they "store" it), or storing any data for that matter? For example - how would this simple C thing translate to any functional programming language, for example haskell? #include<stdio.h> int main() { int no; scanf("%d",&no); return 0; }

  • Query design in SQL - ORDER BY SUM() of field in rows which meet a certain condition

    - by Christian Mann
OK, so I have two tables I'm working with - project and service, simplified thus: project ------- id PK name str service ------- project_id FK for project time_start int (timestamp) time_stop int (timestamp) One-to-Many relationship. Now, I want to return (preferably with one query) a list of an arbitrary number of projects, sorted by the total amount of time spent at them, which is found by SUM(time_stop) - SUM(time_start) WHERE project_id = something. So far, I have SELECT project.name FROM service LEFT JOIN project ON project.id = service.project_id LIMIT 100 but I cannot figure out how what to ORDER BY.

  • Minimum permissions to COM Object to Instantiate running as LocalService

    - by Paul Farry
I'm writing a .NET Service that creates a COM object. If I run the Service as the Logged on user (everything is fine). If I run the Service as LocalSystem, everything is fine. If I run the Service as LocalService, then I get an AccessDeniedException when trying to instantiate the COM Object. I've come up with the following block to grant the necessary permissions and it appears to work correctly, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something regarding the COM rules. Private Sub SetAccessToRockeyRegistry() Using reg As RegistryKey = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.ClassesRoot.OpenSubKey("CLSID\{EE0680D3-AAC3-446B-AFD7-F9DE2D3E28FB}", True) Dim sec As RegistrySecurity sec = reg.GetAccessControl Dim ar As RegistryAccessRule Dim sid As SecurityIdentifier sid = New SecurityIdentifier(WellKnownSidType.LocalServiceSid, Nothing) ar = New RegistryAccessRule(sid, RegistryRights.ReadKey Or RegistryRights.EnumerateSubKeys Or RegistryRights.QueryValues, AccessControlType.Allow) sec.AddAccessRule(ar) ar = New RegistryAccessRule(sid, RegistryRights.ReadKey Or RegistryRights.EnumerateSubKeys Or RegistryRights.QueryValues, _ InheritanceFlags.ObjectInherit Or InheritanceFlags.ContainerInherit, PropagationFlags.InheritOnly Or PropagationFlags.NoPropagateInherit, AccessControlType.Allow) sec.AddAccessRule(ar) reg.SetAccessControl(sec) End Using End Sub

  • Get the current bounded object in a ListView's ItemTemplate

    - by Andreas Grech
I want to be able to get the current bound object in the ItemTemplate of a ListView control. Here's an example of what I want to do: <asp:ListView ID="UserList" runat="server"> <LayoutTemplate> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="itemPlaceHolder" runat="server" /> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> //How can I get the current bound object in here? </ItemTemplate> </asp:ListView>

  • Mixing policy-based design with CRTP in C++

    - by Eitan
I'm attempting to write a policy-based host class (i.e., a class that inherits from its template class), with a twist, where the policy class is also templated by the host class, so that it can access its types. One example where this might be useful is where a policy (used like a mixin, really), augments the host class with a polymorphic clone() method. Here's a minimal example of what I'm trying to do: template <template <class> class P> struct Host : public P<Host<P> > { typedef P<Host<P> > Base; typedef Host* HostPtr; Host(const Base& p) : Base(p) {} }; template <class H> struct Policy { typedef typename H::HostPtr Hptr; Hptr clone() const { return Hptr(new H((Hptr)this)); } }; Policy<Host<Policy> > p; Host<Policy> h(p); int main() { return 0; } This, unfortunately, fails to compile, in what seems to me like circular type dependency: try.cpp: In instantiation of ‘Host<Policy>’: try.cpp:10: instantiated from ‘Policy<Host<Policy> >’ try.cpp:16: instantiated from here try.cpp:2: error: invalid use of incomplete type ‘struct Policy<Host<Policy> >’ try.cpp:9: error: declaration of ‘struct Policy<Host<Policy> >’ try.cpp: In constructor ‘Host<P>::Host(const P<Host<P> >&) [with P = Policy]’: try.cpp:17: instantiated from here try.cpp:5: error: type ‘Policy<Host<Policy> >’ is not a direct base of ‘Host<Policy>’ If anyone can spot an obvious mistake, or has successfuly mixing CRTP in policies, I would appreciate any help.

  • Retrieve object from jquery in php script

    - by majc
    I'm trying to rebuild an object encoded with Json but i'm not getting any value. JQuery: $.post("views/insert_tasks.php",{ clickedRows : clickrows , <?php echo "tasks:'" . json_encode($tasks) . "'"; ?> }, function(data) { }); this is the PHPcode to retrieve the object: $tasks = json_decode(stripslashes($_POST['tasks']), true); $tasks is empty after execute the code above. This is what I'm getting with the $_POST['tasks']: [{"task_id":"1","description":"<p>Fazer heroi</p>","createdat":"Saturday 22nd of May 2010 11:37:37 PM","createdby":"Miguel Cardoso","max_requests":"2","max_duration":"5","job_id":"Concept Artist"},{"task_id":"2","description":"<p>teste2</p>","createdat":"Sunday 23rd of May 2010 11:23:55 AM","createdby":"Miguel Cardoso","max_requests":"2","max_duration":"5","job_id":"3D Modeller"},{"task_id":"3","description":"<p>teste3</p>","createdat":"Sunday 23rd of May 2010 11:45:39 AM","createdby":"Miguel Cardoso","max_requests":"1","max_duration":"10","job_id":"Writer"}] What I'm doing wrong?

  • D3.js binding an object to data and appending for each key

    - by frshca
I'm a D3.js newbie and I'm learning how to play around with data. Let's say I have an object with names as keys, and each key has an array of numbers like this: var userdata = { 'John' : [0, 1, 3, 9, 8, 7], 'Harry': [0, 10, 7, 1, 1, 11], 'Steve': [3, 1, 4, 4, 4, 17], 'Adam' : [4, 77, 2, 13, 11, 13] }; For each user, I would like to append an SVG object and then plot the line with the array of values for that user. So here is my assumption of how that would look based on tutorials, but I know it is incorrect. This is to show my limited knowledge and give better understanding of what I'm doing: First I should create the line var line = d3.svg.line().interpolate('basis'); Then I want to bind the data to my body and append an svg element for each key: d3.select('body') .selectAll('svg') .data(userdata) .enter() .append('svg') .append(line) .x(function(d, i) { return i; }) .y(function(d) { return d[i]; }); So am I close??

  • Keep an object for the time the connection is running in ASP.NET

    - by vtortola
Hi, I'm developing a web service with ASP.NET, is not an .asmx or WCF, it's a custom one, so I'm working with the Http classes (context, request, response, etc..). Session is disabled. I'm working with my own handler and module. I'd like to keep a object alive and accessible for the time the connection is alive. I mean, a request enters, I assign a DbCommand to it and that connection will use that command as long is doing things, when that connection is ended, the object should be disposed. I've thought, that I can add it to my IPrincipal implementation, then when the connection is authenticated in the module and the user retrieved, I can add that DbCommand to the IPrincipal, so I can retrieve it from wherever I want in the code, and after in the module EndRequest event, I can dispose it, but I don't know if there is a better approach to do this. What do you think? cheers

  • asp.net mvc - bootstrapping object via model binder

    - by csetzkorn
Hi, I have a domain object Thing which can contain several Categories. So I have implemented my HTML helper to create a checkbox group of all possible Categories. I have no problem receiving: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(Thing Thing, List<string> Categories) However I am wondering whether I could use a custom Model binder to use just this: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(Thing Thing) So basically I am looking for a way to use the model binder to bootstrap the object tree/graph. Any pointers appreciated. Thanks. Christian

  • How to make and use first object in Objective C to store sender tag

    - by dbonneville
I started with a sample program that simply sets up a UIView with some buttons on it. Works great. I want to access the sender tag from each button and save it. My first thought was to save it to a global variable but I couldn't get it to work right. I thought the best way would be to create an object with one property and synthesize it so I can get or set it as needed. First, I created GlobalGem.h: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface GlobalGem : NSObject { int gemTag; } @property int gemTag; -(void) print; @end Then I created GlobalGem.m: #import "GlobalGem.h" @implementation GlobalGem @synthesize gemTag; -(void) print { NSLog(@"gemTag value is %i", gemTag); } @end The sample code I worked from doesn't do anything I can see in "main" where the program initializes. They just have their methods and are set up to handle IBOutlet actions. I want to use this object in the IBOutlet methods. But I don't know where to create the object. In the viewDidLoad, I tried this: GlobalGem *aGem = [[GlobalGem alloc]init]; [aGem print]; I added reference to the .h file of course. The print method works. In the nslog I get "gemTag value is 0". But now I want to use the instance aGem in some of the IBOutlet actions. For instance, if I put this same method in one of the outlet actions like this: - (IBAction)touchButton:(id)sender { [aGem print]; } ...I get a build error saying that "aGem is undeclared". Yes, I'm new to objective c and am very confused. Is the instance I created, aGem, in the viewDidLoad not accessible outside of that method? How would I create an instance of a Class that I can store a variable value that any of the IBOutlet methods can access? All the buttons need to be able to store their sender tag in the instance aGem and I'm stuck. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to write the sender tag to a global variable I declared in the UIView .h file that came with the program, but I ran into issues using it. Where am I off?

  • Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

    - by Robin
Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

  • Interface design pattern / Java / Seam

    - by Walter White
Hi all, Is this possible somehow? @Name("geolocationService") public interface GeolocationService { @Query("SELECT g FROM Geolocation geolocation INNER JOIN geolocation.deployment deployment WHERE geolocation.ipStart <= INET_ATON(:ipAddress) AND deployment.active = TRUE") Geolocation findByIpAddress(@NamedParameter("ipAddress")final String ipAddress); } public GeolocationAction { @In private GeolocationService geolocationService; @RequestParameter("ipAddress") private String ipAddress; @Out private Geolocation geolocation; public void find() { geolocation = geolocationService.findByIpAddress(ipAddress); } } Is it possible to do this without implementing the interface? What is required to make that work? I want to maintain less and do more. If I can intercept invocations of the geolocationService then I am golden, how would I do that? I don't want it to ever be instantiated, so it will always be null (I don't want the @Name and @In annotations either then). Walter

  • Generic List<T> as IEnumerable<object>

    - by Avi
I'm trying to do cast a List to an IEnumerable, so I can verify that different lists are not null or empty: Suppose myList is a List < T . Then in the caller code I wanted: Validator.VerifyNotNullOrEmpty(myList as IEnumerable<object>, @"myList", @"ClassName.MethodName"); The valdiating code would be: public static void VerifyNotNullOrEmpty(IEnumerable<object> theIEnumerable, string theIEnumerableName, string theVerifyingPosition) { string errMsg = theVerifyingPosition + " " + theIEnumerableName; if (theIEnumerable == null) { errMsg += @" is null"; Debug.Assert(false); throw new ApplicationException(errMsg); } else if (theIEnumerable.Count() == 0) { errMsg += @" is empty"; Debug.Assert(false); throw new ApplicationException(errMsg); } } However, this doens't work. It compiles, but theIEnumerable is null! Why?

  • SQL database problems with addressbook table design

    - by Sebastian Hoitz
Hello! I am writing a addressbook module for my software right now. I have the database set up so far that it supports a very flexible address-book configuration. I can create n-entries for every type I want. Type means here data like 'email', 'address', 'telephone' etc. I have a table named 'contact_profiles'. This only has two columns: id Primary key date_created DATETIME And then there is a table called contact_attributes. This one is a little more complex: id PK #profile (Foreign key to contact_profiles.id) type VARCHAR describing the type of the entry (name, email, phone, fax, website, ...) I should probably change this to a SET later. value Text (containing the value for the attribute). I can now link to these profiles, for example from my user's table. But from here I run into problems. At the moment I would have to create a JOIN for each value that I want to retrieve. Is there a possibility to somehow create a View, that gives me a result with the type's as columns? So right now I would get something like #profile type value 1 email [email protected] 1 name Sebastian Hoitz 1 website domain.tld But it would be nice to get a result like this: #profile email name website 1 [email protected] Sebastian Hoitz domain.tld The reason I do not want to create the table layout like this initially is, that there might always be things to add and I want to be able to have multiple attributes of the same type. So do you know if there is any possibility to convert this dynamically? If you need a better description please let me know. Thank you!

  • Access violation of member of pointer object

    - by Martin Lauridsen
So I am coding this client/server program. This code is from the client side. The client has an instance of an object mpqs_sieve *instance_; The reason I make it as a pointer is, that mpqs_sieve only has a constructor that takes 3 arguments, and I want to instantiate it at a later point in time. The client first gets some data from the server, and uses this to instantiate instance_. After this, it will request some more data, and upon receiving this (these are three coeffecients for a quadratic polynomial), it should set these in the instance_ object. However upon calling a member function of instance_, I get an access violation on one of the members of instance_ within that function call. I posted my code here: on pastebin, and I get the error on line 100. The call comes from line 71, and before that line 21. Any ideas to solve this? Thanks!

  • Extending DOMDocument and DOMNode: problem with return object

    - by Glauber Rocha
I'm trying to extend the DOMDocument class so as to make XPath selections easier. I wrote this piece of code: class myDOMDocument extends DOMDocument { function selectNodes($xpath){ $oxpath = new DOMXPath($this); return $oxpath->query($xpath); } function selectSingleNode($xpath){ return $this->selectNodes($xpath)->item(0); } } These methods return a DOMNodeList and a DOMNode object, respectively. What I'd like to do now is to implement similar methods to the DOMNode objects. But obviously if I write a class (myDOMNode) that extends DOMNode, I won't be able to use these two extra methods on the nodes returned by myDOMDocument because they're DOMNode (and not myDOMNode) objects. I'm rather a beginner in object programming, I've tried various ideas but they all lead to a dead-end. Any hints? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Multi Action with Form design streatgy

    - by Ravi
Hello All, I want to have a controller that can handle multiple requests. Like a UserController handling all the addUser, deleteUser, updateUser and viewUser functionality. I know that MultiActionController can be used to bundle multiple similar request into one controller. But the functionalities like addUser and updateUser involves user to enter data, which the controller need to process. Can a MultiActionController handle doSubmit kind of methods (similar to SimpleFormController). Is there any better way to handle this kind of scenario? Thanks. Ravi

  • What is .tpl files? php, web design

    - by Dan
    Hi guys! A man wants me to redesign a site run in PHP (VideoCMS). But when I asked him to send me the source he has given me *.tpl files instead of *.php. There is some code inside them: {include file='header.tpl' p="article"} <br /> <table width="886" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td width="150" valign="top"> <div id="reg_box"> <h3 class="captions">{$lang.articles}</h3> <div id="list_cats"> <ul> {$article_categories} </ul> </div> </div> <br /> <div id="reg_box"> <h3 class="captions">{$lang.members}</h3> {if $logged_in == '1'} {include file='loggedin_body.tpl'} {else} {include file='login_body.tpl'} {/if} or {include file='header.tpl' p="index"} {php} $_SESSION['isFair'] = "Yes"; {/php} Question: what's the interpreter of the code? How to redesign this site?

  • Object Reference Error filling a datarow

    - by JPJedi
This is the code: Dim dr() As DataRow = DataSet.Tables("TableName").Select("EVENTNAME = '" & name & "'") I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Error when this line is executed. It is looping through a list of selected items in a listbox. I think it has to do with how I have the datarow declared because I can look at the name and I see it ok and I also do a null check on the name before I use it. Visual Studio 2008, VB.NET. Any ideas? Yep it was a wrong table name. I guess after looking at the code for 8 hours that minor detail I just wasn't thinking to check. Thanks!
